    Thank you so much. I just started an MSc Program in Project Management here in the UK and your tutorials have been more than helpful in my understanding of the Scheduling and Budgeting course. I've been following your tutorials from the first one for weeks now. Thank you so much for how easy to understand and follow through you made the tutorial. I'm grateful.

    I would definitely use the file naming method. You will likely have a number of changes, every project does. Unless it is a mammoth change don’t rebaseline. Do indicate the impact it has on the schedule eg insert fragnet co which the protocol will do.

    youtube.com/@TomStephensontraining Thank you for this video of Update and Recovery of the project and How one can bring back the project on track again.
    My question is:
    As you said a person can bring back the project by adding Lag or change the start day of the specific activity. But if we do so does it affect the COST and ALLOCATED RESOURCES like wise:
    if I start specific task 5 days before with same end date (duration changed from 5 days to 8 days)
    a.) The resource allocation sheet shows for e.g. 5 laborer for 8 days or it remain 5 laborer for 5 days only?
    b.) can we see the change in the cost in Variance Table for early start days?

      Thanks for watching Raj. Looks like I have to do more specific videos on the nuances of cost loading and resource loading. I always say try it and experiment and see how things adjust. The work usage sheet is helpful when you customize it. If you shorten something you will see the variance in the resource sheet. It has a square icon box top left corner of the sheet. Right click go to cost and click it. You will see each resources variance in dollars

    At 17:30 when you started the tapers early let's say the boarders and tapers are the same labourers. So now the little red guy will appear saying over allocated. Let's say you have 400% labourers allocated to both boarders and tapers they are paid hourly prorated. But the boarding is coming to an end and not all 4 workers are needed so you want to assign 200% to boarding and 200% to taping for the overlapped portion then all 400% will tape when boarding is done. Is there a way to split the assigned labourers. If I don't split them my cost for the project will be higher because I used 800% labourers for that time. The project will show on schedule now. Thanks for all the help your videos are very helpful.

      Hi Kyle you should be able to individually adjust hours under the task usage sheet or the resource usage sheets. Slide mouse to left of screen right click and you should see them listed.

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge, when you recover a schedule, does it become your new baseline for when you do your next programme update? Or would you just record the actual recovery (i.e. shortened duration) under Actual Duration when you do your next update?
    Cheers

      @TomStephensontraining  2 года назад +1

      Hi Kevin,
      Thanks for the comment, You keep the original baseline but when you do the recovery the recovery becomes the new plan to follow. In other words you are updating the recovery next month. The original baseline is in that file. Contractually you will still compare to the original plan to try to make milestones and phase dates. If it is agreed that there were so many changes the original baseline no longer makes sense then you can re-baseline for better comparison.

    Hi Tom, Got a question if you are saving a new schedule every time why does MS Project give you the ability to save multiple baselines?

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  3 года назад

      Hi Erik,
      Sometimes you and the client may agree to change the baseline, usually because the changes are so large you are not comparing apples to apples. For example a condo tower starts excavation for 30 stories and gets approval zoning change for 34 stories, that would be a good time to use a multiple baseline or. you could also do it through my file naming method, but the multiple would allow you to see the new additional floors on the multiple tracking gantt. You would not want to add a baseline every update though it would get very confusing and project only allows 11 anyway.

      OK for example I have a project where we discovered a 42” Irrigation District pipe running right thru the building pad. This became a Change Order to remove and cap. We requested 21 extra days for this work which they agreed upon. If I understand correctly I believe that would constitute a a baseline change, or I could use the file naming method?

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  Год назад

      Go to resource tab select assign resources and make sure you are in the right activity and up the resource eg if it is at 100 change to 200 and that should shorten your duration by 50 percent

    Hi can I know how can we print a part of a gantt chart it means how to make hide for a part of the gantt chart

    • @TomStephensontraining
      @TomStephensontraining  11 дней назад

      If you shrink the Gantt chart with the timescale it will print at that scale. You could also filter dates under the view tab and then print, also consider a screen shot if that does not do what you want.
