Welcome to the first video, in a new series I will be uploading on this channel, called "Least Used Stations" where I go to the least used station for every line in the NYC Subway System, and create a video on it.
My mind is completely blown that 225th street is in Manhattan. After wikiing it, I found out that there’s a canal running at around 222nd street which was filled in by the excavation from Grand Central Station. Thanks for pointing that out!
After 2 and a 1/2 years, the series comes to a close.
The train runs along N-S along Tenth Avenue, the easternmost N-S artery in Manhattan at this point. Tenth Avenue is noisy, dark and dirty, due to the elevated trains overhead, with World War 1 era walk-up apartment buildings. Few stores. East of the tracks is a walled off area; the train yards. East of the train yards, lies the Harlem River.
The main way to approach this station is from the west. West 215th Street is a short mini-block, leading to a flight of stairs at Broadway. The flight of stairs goes up to the part of the Inwood neighborhood that borders Inwood Park. That's where most of the riders come from.
The Inwood Park neighborhood is also served by the IND A train, with an entrance at Isham Street and Broadway. The IND A= fewer stops, faster service to midtown.
Yes, it absolutely is the least used on this line. I worked that line for several years both as conductor and motorman, and there really is very little reason to stop there at all.
Bet you wished you could skip it 😆
Thanks for commenting. Cool to see a motorman here!
@@MysticTransit So don't any MTA employees use it? The station is right next to the Signal shop.
As a conductor, I used it to go to MAC#3, for annual MTA medical check ups.
0:00 a legend is born
I'm a train and I approve this video choo choo!!
Great video! I think it'd also be nice, if you give context as why it's the least used and what is the most used station in that line for comparison.
Ah, good idea. Thanks for that. I'll keep that in mind for the next 'Least Used Station' video. I have separate videos planned for the "Most Used Stations".
The most used station is Times Square
Manhattan is pretty small by the northern tip and doesn't have many residents. That area is mostly parking lots, a hospital and the MTA yard.
I think, for the longest time, the Bay Parkway stop on the F line had very few riders.
so you're just the new york version of geoff marshal/jago hazzard???? if so, great! we need more of this
Wow I never noticed the older style font on this station's sign.
that’s how unused it is, it really is overshadowed by 207 and 225
I wonder if this station could operate as a terminal point if the Broadway Bridge gets stuck in raised position. I'm sure that would be very tricky, but there is a third rail.
Keep them coming!.
This is awesome and i can learn so much nyc.Good video bro
Thanks. I chose to make a new channel covering the History, and just giving information on the NYC Subway for those who want it. Our system is extremely unique, and I want to share that with the world.
@@MysticTransit That's a great idea and now dtg will have reference material for w.e they decide to do nyc subway.
Makes sense. There is a major train yard there.
Love the 1 train
My station!
do you follow Geoff Marshall? he does a good series on least used stations in the UK, worth following him if you don’t already.
Yes, he actually inspired the creation of this series.
I’m the first one to sub
Was this your first video bc thats the oldest
What is your microphone
Bring the 9 train back please
The (9) wouldn't be a good addition back into the system. While yes, it would be good for railfans, it is not a feasible line, or a useful one.
The (9) should do peak direction express service between 96 St - 157 St then Dyckman St - 242 St then Run Local with 1 train in Bx all other times except late nights
it’s better off as the with the middle track as an express track
He’s just a transit enthusiast, he can’t just magically bring back the (9) train
Also we don’t need the (9) train because nobody would use an alternative (1) train that’s only express in the Bronx
Half a million is still a lot of ppl.
NYCT is so behind compared to let’s say Japan, London and some other European countries.
Lol there's nothing useful there
