These three singers have such good chemistry because they go way back... Back in 2012, when Tommy first joined Kamelot, Elize and Alissa went as guest vocalists when Kamelot joined Nightwish on their Imaginaerum World Tour in North America. And there happened the now famous incident when Nightwish broke up with their singer Anette and during that night, for one concert only, these two girls were asked to fill in, as lead singers. They had little to no time to prepare, so they performed many songs holding papers with the lyrics written on them... It's documented in the "Please Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours" documentary (the 48 hour window was for Floor Jansen)

Personal vote for Kamelot is Elizabeth from the '06 show with Roy. Definitely a song that is improved by researching the story behind it. The story behind that song is fascinating.
Amaranthe has alot of good stuff. My personal gateway to the band was 1.000.000 Lightyears so I guess I'd recommend that. It's a good show case of the band's formula and a lot of the band's strengths as a band.
I'm no an Archenemy fan but my understanding is that if you want to hear Alissa sing clean vocals then you have to turn to Kamelot. The other one she sings in is Liar Liar which is another great Kamelot song.

    • @deannaelliott6272
      @deannaelliott6272 4 года назад

She does do a few Kamelot songs with both growls and cleans, especially in live settings since she used to be a touring vocalist with them, but if you want a real showcase of her ability in clean, you’re best off going for her former band The Agonist. Great songs and pretty much all of them feature her using both sides of her voice. I’d recommend Thank You Pain, Trophy Kill, or Born Dead, Buried Alive. The only Archenemy song with any cleans is Reason To Believe, which also pretty great!

  • @chaifox142

KAMELOT! Great review, even if technology failed the first go. For Alissa's clean vocals, definitely Liar Liar by Kamelot. Other Kamelot favorites include The Haunting feat. Simone Simons (Roy Kahn), Ghost Opera (Roy), r slow things down with Under Grey Skies (Tommy). Also echoing a few comments here with checking out Tommy's other band, Seventh Wonder, which is much more power metal.

i love how kamelot is an all-male band but they always bring in badass ladies to do the screaming/growling in their songs. such a cool reversal of what you usually see. also, as a classical pianist myself i can confirm that oliver palotai is an absolute MADMAN in those keys.
some great amaranthe songs to start with would be "the nexus" or "365". i remember when that second one first came out i listened to it like a thousand times on repeat.

Kamelot has been my favourite band since like 95. This makes me so happy. People may say Alissa cannot hold a candle to Angela in Arch Enemy, and in some cases I may even be tempted to agree, but she's such a good frontwoman in general. Elize's voice is wonderful. This song is extremely well written and DEFINITELY one of the very best "Tommy era" songs. Amazing reaction, well done.

14:07 - for more of Alissa's clean vocals check out Arch Enemy's "Reason to Believe". As for Amaranthe, they have just released a new single, "Archangel," which is worth checking out (their new album "Manifest" comes out this Friday, Oct 2); also "Strong" with Noora of Battle Beast is a great single. As suggested by others, "Liar Liar" is one of Kamelot's best singles, and it features some clean singing from Alissa. Other Kamelot suggestions: "Phantom Divine" (ft Lauren Hart).

Definitely either "Reason to Believe" by Arch Enemy or "Panophobia" by The Agonist for her clean vocals. The latter offering a great look at her ability to jump in and out of the growls. Would also highly recommend checking out "Evolution" by Dreamstate, or "One By One" with Rickard Soderberg for more Elize outside of Amaranthe.

Not very familiar with Kamelot, I love this song tho.
But Amaranthe I've listened to way more. All depends on what type of song you would like to hear.
Fun thing about Amaranthe is that they have 3 vocalists, how they do that you'll have to check out yourself ;)
"GG6" is one of their more heavier songs I'd say.
"42nd all the way" cover of Sabaton's track (could do both in the same video potentially, I know people enjoy those kind of videos )
"Do or Die" featuring former Arch Enemy vocalist Angela Gossow (who is also their manager).. however two of their vocalists aren't in that one.
Or you could do one of their newer tracks "Viral" or "Archangel" from their upcomming album Manifest :)
Sorry for the wall of text, and thank you for all your reactions. I really enjoy them, they bring something new to the table. So keep up the good work :)

This is just such a feast! I love the music, feast for my ears, but while it doesn't relate to talent, the 3 singers are also physically attractive, so even for my eyes it's a feast. Then there's the joy of having my brain stimulated by a reactor that knows what he's talking about. Much like with Nightwish, I like 2 of the 3 singers they've had equally and I feel no need to pick. (Sorry Mark, sorry Anette).
Used to have this thing with my dad where each year we'd go to one of their shows, each time a different city/country and made a weekend out of it. Great memories of Kamelot and with my dad because of that, and anybody that can appreciate the band is awesome in my eyes. I actually have a letter written by Roy Khan, still one of my most favorite possessions. Especially because it's so personal, it's not just a signature, he took the time to read, think and respond.

Great video, Chase! Some fun facts:
    - Simone Simons, the frontwoman of Epica, is married to Oliver Palotai, Kamelot's keyboardist. They have a son named Vincent and he shares my birthday.
    - Epica got their band name from Kamelot's album of the same name. Epica was originally called Sahara Dust.
    - Alissa-White Gluz can sing some incredible cleans. You can hear those in another Kamelot song she's featured in called "Liar Liar (Wasteland Monarchy)".
    - Arch Enemy isn't known for having clean vocals at all. I'm not sure if Alissa has any clean vocals in the band. Her former band, The Agonist, definitely showcased her clean vocals a lot. "Thank You Pain" is an iconic song from her time in The Agonist that has a lot of cleans you'd enjoy.
    - Amaranthe is about to release their upcoming 6th studio album this Friday. They are from Sweden. Their entire discography is full of absolute bangers. I'd consider them hit machines just like BAND-MAID. I'd recommend checking out their newest single that they dropped last week called "Archangel". Get ready to fall down the Amaranthe rabbit hole!

It's nice to see they've, for lack of a better term, "graduated" and are now returning as celebrated guests. Kamelot was supporting Nightwish when Anette got sick, and Elize and Alissa fronted Nightwish for a show, complete with lyric sheets in hand.

I liked the review format. Especially on technical songs, there is always things people miss the first time. Songs like this one, technical prog symphonics, I think are great to review with a 2nd listen to.

I'm so glad you didn't scrap this and decided to do it (again), despite it not being a first reaction! This was great, especially because you noticed stuff you missed the first time! Very cool, thank you!
This might not be my favorite Kamelot song, but it sure is fun! I'm still voting for the Elizabeth trilogy (from the older live DVD) as the next one! :)

For Alissa's clean vocals, the best place to look is from The Agonist's first 3 albums. "Thank You, Pain" is a good place to start!
Re Amaranthe, classics like Hunger, The Nexus, or Drop Dead Cynical are probably great entries into their catalog, although admittedly a lot of their stuff sounds more or less the same so you could start pretty much anywhere!

This was great! I'm really glad you've experienced both Kamelot vocalists now, and the 2nd listen worked just as well so thanks for doing this even with the camera issue. Nostalgia leads me to listen more to the Roy era of Kamelot, but Tommy is a very good singer that brings his own style as well.
I'm pumped for you to react to Amaranthe as they are very unique in how they use 3 vocalists and incorporate lots of synth elements. Viral and Archangel are new songs from their upcoming album worth checking out. The Nexus, Digital World, and Maximize are all great songs with music videos as well. Lots of solid material to go through with them. Cheers!

Hi Chase! I first came across your channel when you reacted to Ghost Love Score (as one does) but stayed for your great dissections of songs and your technical knowledge of how things are done and put together. I know you tend to react to mainly metal/rock, but I would love to see your reaction to some Wardruna (Voluspá, maybe Raido or even Helvegen). Einar knows how to write incredibly powerful music and I would love to hear what you have to say about it.
Love your reacts tho, keep them coming!🤘🏻🥰🤘🏻

Hey brother. So good as always.
Amaranthe, arch enemy, epica, kamelot, nightwish, wintersun, and orbit culture have all made me love music again and I'm so glad you're finding them all.
So, I did something over the weekend because I was curious. I went back and watched your first reaction to ghost love score. It's interesting, and I'd be curious, now that you have been on this journey, how you would react now.

totally fine with the review/reaction format. If you wait to hear every song you want to listen to until you can do a first time hearing reaction video to it, we are all going to be very old, and that makes me sad. Put up what you want mate. I'll watch.

Love to hear your pause breakdown. No matter if it's a repeat or no. Kamelot are perhaps one if the great melody bands, so their chorus sound is great!
So people will tell you to do the haunting and liar liar but I also love the ballads like anthem or under grey skies (with Charlotte from Delain. A band I'd love to hear you react to.) I'll also chuck in another Sonata Arctica request for more keys vs guitar solos. Amaranthe songs to reccomend are 1000 light years away or for something more ballady endlessly is great!
Also as a live aside, Tommy is so charismatic on stage. My husband pointed out that it was one of the few gigs he'd been to where the women outnumbered the men and well... there's a good reason!

If you want some clean vocals from Alissa then I recommend listening to The Agonist (her old band), as for songs, I'd go with either "Panophobia", "Thank you pain", "And their eulogies sang me to sleep" or the song that got me into them "Business suits and combat boots". All the sings have a mix of clean and harsh vocals

Hi Chase, I have an idea:
When first time listening to a band that's completely new to you, do an "unprepared/blind" first reaction just in case there is some shock factor. :-)
When listening to a new song of a band you already know, do a prepared analysis like this one.
This could be the best of both worlds for your audience and less stress for you.
