  • Learn how to repair a cracked dash with plastic weld in this ultimate guide. We'll show you how to finish it with texture coating, paint, and clear coat for a professional look.
To complete this particular restoration, the dash needed to be removed from 1990 BMW 325is. The dash for years housed several cracks, but over the years, they continued to worsen. I am not sure if I would have taken on this job if it was not for the rust that began eating at the lower windshield cowl. Because of that, the dash had to be removed to properly repair the damage.
The most important part of the repair is the time you take to repair the cracks. A utility knife, Dremel tool, and plastic weld are the key tools needed to repair this particular type of dash.

    Plastic Welder - rb.gy/t7hoxr
    SEM Plastic Paint - rb.gy/adadw2
SEM Clear Coat for Plastic - rb.gy/v8gbmp
SEM Texture Coating - rb.gy/ns0p09Qu... Body Filler
    Adhesion Promoter - rb.gy/0g7orm
Note!! - When applying the texture coating, do not touch it after it has fallen on to the dash. It will wipe off. I tried sanding it down to create a different texture, but I was not successful. I would clear coat over the texture coating or paint and then clear coat until you have enough clear.
The texture of the finished product will have a rough texture after it has received clear coat. I would imagine you could sand it down to be smoother and then re-apply clear coat.
If you end getting a hairline crack in the texture coating like I did then you can apply some super glue and baking soda to the crack. Then re-apply the coating, paint, and clear.
