I honestly love Resurrection. It's just so campy and has a comic-book feel that I adore! It is still my least favorite of the six canonical films, but it hardly matters because I love them all so much.
I love this movie, it's totally the Ragnarok of the alien cinematic universe, it's kinda rock star, and this iteration of Ripley is just pure badass and definitely a stand apart from the original Ellen Ripley
It's a fun and campy romp into the "behind the curtain" side of xenos and the military industrial complex that keeps trying to harness these creatures. I don't know why anyone would hate it, tho I can understand it not being someone's thing. In my head canon Ripley 8 and Kal run off to become tank-girl-esce lesbian lovers
Me, that's me. Alien fan who thinks there are no bad Alien movies (do not incl AVP in this). The four Ripley films are all so peculiar and different. Yes, some are better than others, but overall, I enjoy them all for all the different reason. Did we need another movie with Sigourney Weaver after her character's monumental sacrifice in Alien 3? No. But, for better or worse, it happened, and Weaver once again proved how unique she is & how difficult it is to replicate her charisma and screen presence. So yeah, there is Ripley trilogy, and Resurrection is an Epiloge, or.... it can be a Prologue to "Ripley Eight" story on earth ( I'm aware that Weaver has moved on, I miss her tho! I know it would probably be better for her legacy not to return...but still...)
Long time Alien fan, I remembered Resurrection being pretty bad when it came out, and I think I saw it a couple of times on DVD in the late 90s. I recently hosted an Alien film festival and was excited to give Resurrection a screening with fresh eyes, hoping to be delighted by a visionary take by an auteur director . Sadly it was WORSE than I remembered, so much cringy awkwardness, and the attempts at humor that just fell flat. No one was likable/relatable (as you point out, deliberately), not even the Xenos, which made the stakes basically non existent, and not scary at all, just kinda dumb. The scene of the three Xenos in their pen having a hissing "conversation" to make their acidic escape plan about made me check out completely, but I forced myself (and my guests) to sit it out to the end. NEVER AGAIN. Can't wait for Romulus, I'm cautiously optimistic about the return to cosmic horror. Thanks for the vid!
Its terrible alein and aleins are the best this movies in the franchise. Resurrection just reeks of french euro trash weirdness like the Olympic opening ceremony.
