Alien VS Predator - Caravan Of Garbage

- Опубликовано: 16 июн 2024
- Alien VS Predator from 2004 promised to finally bring two of the biggest sci-fi horror franchises into the one universe. We were expecting gore, we were expecting lore, we were expecting a big underground ice pyramid or something and we certainly got some of those things in this middling adaptation of what had already become the norm in comic books for well over a decade. Thanks for listening to our Caravan Of Garbage review!

The lack of American Football field in this movie made it really hard to determine a winner.
Didn't even specify what era of Predator or Xenomorph. AvP truly is the worst podcast
Haha amazing reference
Only superheroes are aloud the football field
Goated comment
Not sure who won but whoever it was, we lost
This movie is the definition of “it’s stupid but I had fun with it”
Sounds like a description of me...
Made popcorn taste better
Which in turn is the synopsis of every Paul WS Anderson movie ever.
@@TheSchaef47 lol very true
Just like your mom
This movie was weirdly important to me, I had a phase where I was being super critical of everything I watched and stopped having fun but this movie was like a friend putting their hand on my shoulder, staring at me in the eyes and saying "Hey Idiot. It's all pretend. Shut up and have fun!" And you know what? I did have fun!
Same but for different reasons. I remember seeing this with my big sister and thinking this was a grown up movie and I was now basically an adult 🙃 😅
Standards for movies and stories are important, but sometimes dumb fun is important too
@@AirQuotes heh, also same but different reasons for me: the 1st AVP and Terminator 3 were the last films my dad and I watched together.
To be clear, he's not dead, he just has a different family now.
@@EonStormcrow am I allowed to laugh?
@@AirQuotes of course! By all means. We all gon' die anyway, might as well laugh at life while we can.
Predator is a franchise I will always show up for no matter how many times it lets me down.
You and me both. I'm super jazzed for Prey. SUPER. JAZZED.
@@mrsundaymovies jazz hands 👐
Sounds like my marriage
To be fair theres only two unenjoyable Predator movies. "Avp:Requim" and "The Predator." I will die on the hill of "Predator 2" and "Predators"being good movies
It's the son you have, not the one want, but you still love them any way.
"Whoever wins, we lose" best movie tagline of all time.
also the tagline for politics in America
Great tagline, but ended up being a lie 😂
They'll fight for a bit and then they're mates.
Terrific
And then they mate more like, and create the PredAlien.
That is religion by this point in

Except they weren’t
“Did it kill the Easter bunny James”
“Idk, probably, sure”
I love how dismissive James is of Masons shit
Out of all of the movies in the Alien and Predator franchises, this one counts in both.
Accurate
Except didn't the film makers say it was in a different continuity?
@@olivia4651 Seriously? Take this crap to a different video.
Fuck 'em, the fans decided.
This is definitely a film that was made, and one of those series’
Missing content from you guys for a month is going to leave a hole only hard drugs can fill
Okay but you have to promise no more hard drugs when we get back
@@mrsundaymovies ok but what about light drugs
I’ll have to become best friends with my dealer instead of James & Maso
@@mrsundaymovies that sounds like a great plan. The good thing about hard drugs is that they're ridiculously easy to quit
i bet i can fill that hole a different way
I just want to take a moment to sing praises to the editors of these videos. The amount of work y'all clearly put in to make every frame of these videos interesting and entertaining is laudable.
The quacks killed me
Matt, Lawrence, Ben, and RAW Collings are some real OG’s and are damn near just as important to this series as James and Maso.
@@DocD173 love the cuts with tunes etc. the AoT theme in there was great.
As soon as Ewen Trainspotting started showing pictures of his kids, we all knew: his life could be measured in minutes.
Spud just say spud
That “quack like a duck” bit/edits really caught me off guard 😆 well done editor Laurence and talkey-guy Mason
I believe it's a reference to the old arcade/SNES game where the aliens made a quack sound when killed. Lol
the "one should quack like a duck" scene editing is priceless
That long quack at 12.39 floored me!! 😂😂
Was looking for this.
I peed at the quack edit 😂
Hey let's combine these two brutal and gory R-rated sci-fi franchises into one movie. But you know what let's go one further and make it PG-13 for no fucking reason. Brilliant!
a yes but also instead of makng it in space in the future lets make it on earth so instead of future space marines we got boring now a day humans to slaughter
*Nods in Robocop*
For no reason? There was definitely a reason. They didn't want to lose the under-18 market.
that's Paul WS Anderson for ya. everything he's worked on has been a bastardized version of what it should be. Prime examples are his Resident Evil and Monster Hunter movies. Where he claims to love both franchises but fuck their history cause his wife has to be the star in every one
@@ThreadBomb I am well aware that on average PG-13 movies do better than R-rated movies but that's not always the case some franchises are meant to be rated R and do better when they're rated R. No one wanted a pussified alien and Predator movie.
This movie was indirectly responsible for my love of horror movies. My little brother wanted to watch it with me despite neither of us having seen a single Alien or Predator movie. So we both liked it a lot, and I then went back and watched the rest of both franchises. And in my head I associated Freddy vs. Jason with this because of the similar names, but I wanted to do it right and start from the beginning this time, so I watched the 15+ Freddy and Jason movies and also Halloween because why not.
This movie is good, cheesy fun and I love it a lot. It isn't even stupid fun either...it just isn't particularly smart xD
(Comic Collector Guy voice)
"Bishop was not killed by an alien, unless Ripley now counts as one. He was wounded but still very much alive. He was able to save Newt, which shows how dead he was not.

"I like metaphors, and I always understand them"
Mr. James Sunday-Movies.
Always had a soft spot for this film.
One of the few DvDs we had in our holiday home with no wifi, so watched it a lot growing up.
Holiday home?
Richie rich huh?
@@accidentalmadness1708 it’s a home you go on holiday at.
You guys have really grown on me over time. You're both always so happy and chatty. It's a great vibe
This is how I felt, until they started peddling FAKE NEWS
Mason and/or Lawrence got a big kick back from Big Oxygen. They're being paid millions to LIE and tell our youth that GLASS isn't Frozen Air.
There are hundred of millions of Frozen Air related injuries every year
Crazy to think I've been a fan for like 5+ years
The 8:21 edit of the metaphor scene from Moneyball while James mentions metaphors for a split second is EXACTLY why I love this channel. The editors matching/exceeding the wit of James n Maso is just sublime.
I don’t know why but this honestly was one of my favorite caravan of garbages they’ve done in awhile.
Did you know, Star Wars was originally called Blue harvest.
That's a great bit of trivia! Thanks!
This movie came up with about as good of a scenario to have these two Aliens come in contact with each other and people (on a reasonable budget). For that reason- the original script deserves some credit. I also love movies where scientists/explorers find a "lost city" or "mysterious abandoned place". I love that aspect of this movie.
I won't say you are entirely wrong, and I personally enjoyed this movie, but the concept is taken directly from prior AvP comics, books, & games, and the main difference is really just that it is modern day rather than the future (I am still crossing my fingers for an AvP movie in the future.
@@whiffyclarke Yes, this crossover is incomplete without the Colonial Marines. These 2 iconic cinema monsters have always been abt humans being outmatched by Predator tech or Xenomorph ferality, no matter how advanced we are. Then one individual gets a moment of ingenuity, outsmarts these monsters & survives.
I always loved this movie as a kid. It was so much fun despite it not being R rated.
Watched this a couple months ago and I actually kinda loved it, love how the main gal and the Predator gotta work together to take down the Xenos
The Dark Horse comic is pretty good still. I bought the 30th anniversary book a while ago and it does get a little silly, but the first third handles the themes of pride, honor and greed fairly well. It gets "random dude on the internet"s seal of approval
As someone who's #1 favorite movie of all time is Aliens and #2 favorite movie of all time is Predator: People may dislike this movie, but AVP:R was miles worse. The fights between the xenos and the Yautja were incredible, Lex was a good protagonist, the team-up between Lex and Scar was a fun dynamic, the underdeveloped dynamic between Lex and Weyland was still compelling, and the effects still hold up to this day. The only thing that hurt this movie for me was the rating. I don't love AVP, but I do like it. It's an easy watch.
Ugh, don’t get me started on Requiem. They have a Predator covering up the existence of aliens (neat idea) . . . but then the xenomorph outbreak gets so bad the feds nuke the town, and this lone Predator is still going around with a dinky little vial of acid to pour on the bodies as if that’s even gonna matter. What a dumb movie.
oof just call them Predators ya nerd
🤣 0:10 *that British drill rap jump cut had me CRYING for some reason* 😭👏🏿... bravo
I love it anytime someone mentions Cube. What a great flick.
The cube series would make for a great Caravan of Garbage tbh!
I don't care what y'all say, this movie holds a special place in my heart. So many badass moments right down to the jump-spear at the end
Thanks everyone involved in bring us mr Sunday movies and the weekly planet. The universe is glad you exist
17:25 Fun Fact, Bill Paxton is still the only actor to be killed by an Alien, a Predator, a Terminator, and a Licensed Surgeon
When i was a kid i thought the coolest thing about the Predators was their ability to mimic voices, that always freaked me out but i loved it haha
James, I’m so glad to hear you say some nice stuff about this movie. I’ve always enjoyed it and never understood the hate for it. I mean, it’s obviously no masterpiece, but it’s pretty fun.
18:24 killed me lmao "quack!"
I’m going to put myself out there, I like this movie. It’s far from perfect, don’t get me wrong, and there’s a number of things I would have done differently. But overall, I think it’s a fine enough movie with some genuinely cool moments here and there.
I can see a genuine attempt here, which is more than I can say for its sequel where I can’t see a single thing.
I just remember seeing this film in the theatre and everyone loudly laughing when the woman got the Alien skull shield
Ben or Lawrence or Collings, whichever edited this video, absolutely DESTORYED it. The editing in this one is fucking fantastic. I was laughing the whole time. That “that’s the joke” clip with the loony toons theme? Masterful
In Aliens, Ripley that if just one xenomorph gets to Earth, 'you can kiss all this goodbye'.
Apparently, they've been on Earth, en masse for centuries. Who wrote this?
Hahah the cut to the predator quacking…chefs kiss mate…best editors on RUclips
One thing I always liked about the moves was having a human becoming an “honorary predator” by having the Predator initiate her in the Yaujta customs and jerk her… I always wanted to see a potential follow up where she shows up and uses her marking and spear and stuff as a way to gain respect from them and maybe make a deal to keep humans off the hunt list…
Did you mean "mark her" rather than "jerk her"? Because, uh, "jerk her" sounds like something which might happen in some fanfiction for this movie.
"Why aren't these rubies fixing my emphysema?"
These are the real questions we should be asking.
I love how unbelievably disruptive mason is all of the time, it's the energy I need
This is one of the movies I will defend with my life! Fun, scary, action packed and two sets of aliens duking it out in an underground temple. What's not to love? Now the second one, that one is shit.
We don't talk about that second one. How they managed to suck all the fun out of AVP is almost a feat in itself
I think Maso prefers AVP2 shockingly
This is one of those movies that I always hear trash talked or used as a punch line, when I don’t really think understand why. It’s not high art or anything but it’s a pretty good action romp.
I was watching this while rocking my 7mo daughter to sleep. The extended duck quack triggered a snigger in me so deep, primal and sudden that it made the ensuing extra half hour of rocking (she woke up because some idiot made the nerdy-nose-laugh) completely worth it.
Bravo.
I absolutely love Mr. Sunday and Toy Galaxy equally! But I did enjoy the cross over. Keep up the great work boyzzz!!!
This movie isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It's about average for both the Alien and Predator franchises
Agreed. The sequel was pretty garbage though. It might have been better if I could see anything
@@angbald Requiem is my guilty pleasure movie. It's so bad but it takes itself so seriously
It's the most utterly middling thing in existence.
The P2 Alien skull was only ever intended as an easter egg, so it was made bone-coloured so as to be recognisably a skull and not stick out compared to the others. It's clear even from Aliens that there's no white calcium-based bone in their bodies and all other media (even AvP the movie) ignores the hell out of it too.
Now I'm just imagining the Predator from P2 being a fussy neurotic who painted his alien head white so it would match the rest of his aesthetic.
@@travistolbert9796 I is interesting that the initial design for the Alien had the human skull clearly visible inside its domed head. Though the skull seen in Predator2 lacks the human features.
So the one good thing about AVP is that prior to that movie coming out, I was very familiar with the aliens but I've never heard of a predator and had asked my dad "what is that the Alien is going to fight?" To which my Dad pulled a "Sit down son, let me teach you about how Arnold fought the Predator" lol.
That sounds like a gorier version of The Princess Bride. ;-)
The editing with the predator "quack"....just....chef's kiss
Star Wars was called Blue Harvest? Whaaa. That's crazy. These two men really know their green trivia. Cant wait to hear what stuff theyll have next week on their green trivia
I like to look at this movie as a really really expensive, really really good fan film. Because it basically is. And honestly it's beautiful.
Yikes
I am not sure whether to think of that as a good or bad thing.
dang Laurence, your editing was outrageous today!
If Ben and/or Laurence wants to make a longer Alien and Predator Duck noises video, I’m here for it.
Didn't think I'd come across a Toy Galaxy shout out on this channel...love it
Hearing the aliens quacking honestly caught me off guard, and made me properly laugh a whole lot.
I really like this movie and I think its underrated . That second one though I couldn't even tell what was happening and it was bad.
James, whatever it is you pay the editors, its not enough. Spectacular work.
"I like metaphors and I always get them"😂😂 I'm still laughing at that
I feel like this movie gets a lot of undeserved hate, when I feel that all it really suffers from is "could it have been better, sure, but it's still pretty good". It's a little silly in places, but it delivers on what it needs to. And as far as the PG13, all that really did was take away the HUMAN gore. There was still plenty of monster gore. And the fight at the end (imo) is one of the best in the franchise(s).
I remember well playing "Alien Vs. Predator" on the Atari Jaguar back in the day. What a great game for the time. Tense, quiet and slow, with creepy atmospheres and uniquely strategic gameplay for the genre at the time. Probably the best game on an admittedly weak system. I put a lot of time into it!
“I like metaphors, I always understand them”
Loving the use of Jiyuu no Tsubasa in the background
Why can't we just make it *Glowing Green Trivia* from here on out?? (Who's gonna stop us?)
Ahhhh I feel amongst friends! Glad to know I’m not the only person who enjoys this movie. And like James Cameron I agree this is the 3rd best of the alien franchise
Fun video as always guys! Don’t know if Ben edited this one but he always does an exceptional job! Love the shout out to Toy Galaxy!!! Keep up the great work!
One of the first violent movies i saw as a kid, cowing behind a kitchen bench behind my father. Holds a special place in my heart.
Can we all just agree this movie never had a sequel.
Nah, where else are we going to get our weekly dose of infanticide
I always wondered why the pyramid in AVP wasn't flooded.
Considering the length and size of the tunnel that was burned through the ice there should be tens of thousands of cubic meters of water flooding that underground cavern completely.
The ice was vaporized at such a high heat it turned to steam straight away and disipated?
Yeah, I'd assume the ice vaporized. Or else there was an ancient drainage system under the pyramid...
@@canijustplease You're probably right since the laser only fired for a few seconds. To burn such a long hole in such a short time the water probably instantly evaporated.
I remember sitting in the theater watching this, thinking, Anderson watched all the Alien films, especially Alien and Aliens, and did his homework but someone showed him a picture of a predator and described the concept to him and he ran with that. Everything about the Predators was off.
Out of all the alien and predator movies this was definitely 1 of them
Say what you will about this movie but the practical effects are fucking great
God yes. These is probably some of the best Xenomorphs I've ever seen
Always loved the "aesthethic" of this movie. Although they moved a little to clunky they look freaking amazing
No other predator has looked that good IMO
I loved that scene of the xenos swarming up the ancient pyramid. And the interior of the pyramid in general was a cool, unique environment.
I hate the way the Predators look in this movie. They’re way too muscled up and huge. It’s also weird to me that they still have the fishnets on because I always assumed they wore fishnets and light armor in Predator because it’s the jungle and they need to be nimble. I thought some warm clothing type armor or something with fur on them would’ve looked way better and provided some aesthetic differentiation for the other versions of Predator.
Predators looked way better!
@@ravenkarlin Fishnets are part of their culture though...
Now we need a Mr Sunday Movies vs Toy Galaxy episode
When there are 2 miles of ice between you and Terra Firma.
You build on the ice.
But keep in mind, the whale station couldn’t actually have been over the pyramid, as the tunnel started in the middle of it and went down at a “perfect” 30 degree angle for quite some distance.
I ALSO quite like this one! It's dumb fun. Looks cool and has some good action. And it definitely delivered on its premise. Just Aliens and Predators beating the shit out of each other
Thanks to this movie, Lance Hendrickson is now the second guy to be taken down by a Predator, a Xenomorph Alien, and a Terminator on screen.
What a neat bit of Green Trivia! Reminds me of how the working title for the original Star Wars was Blue Harvest.
Great to see some Toy Galaxy love. Two great things together... because of Aliens Vs Predator. Who knew?
I liked how it stuck to the predator tradition of being in a different environment each time and nice Toy Galaxy name drop.
These movies are absolutely fun and fine and I would be up for a third one.
Question though; if you had to add a third party to this franchise, who would it be?
The only similar creature i can think of off the top of my head would be the monsters from a quiet place
Clearly the terminator.
The engineers probably
It's been several years since I've seen this movie, so maybe I'd have different thoughts about it now, but at the time at least, I quite enjoyed it. It's not high art, and it knows it, and it gets right to the point of "alright let's have some people die and have some aliens fighting some predators." It's a fun lark, and that's all it needed to be.
Requiem, on the other hand: dogshit.
You are being incredibly generous to requiem with that rating.
“You said your standard funny words and actually made a funny joke” lolllll
Loving the multiple mentions of toy galaxy! Both amazing channels!
I’ve always loved this movie since it came out. That being said, I was the exact target audience.
Love me some sci-fi horror!
This movie? Yeah, not bad. It's fine.
Jesus Fucking Christ the sequel though
The darkest movie ever made
PMSL the predator cubing chicken for his snack is masterful AF my man.
"did you hear that?"
"QUACK"
"Oh god, it's coming closer!"
I’m in the minority of people that thoroughly enjoy this movie
Not requiem tho, requiem is ass
I have had verbatim the same take for years! I totally agree. AVP isn't at the level of alien or aliens but imo it beats resurrection and predator 4
Was always bothered by the gestation period for the aliens in this movie being like 10 minutes tops, but this is the first time Ive heard someone say "well they're super aliens". As awful an explanation as it is, it somehow has put my mind at ease after all these years.
Glad that you always got the metaphors. They can be tough, but you point them out for us, your viewer. That is like a metaphor of a movie showing you, the audience and we are your audience like a metaphor.
I don’t think I get what a metaphor is.
I Really love the editing on this!
I’ll always have a soft spot for this movie - my introduction to both franchises and I feel its genuinely decent monster mash, with canon fodder i actually feel sorry for. Wish it was set in the future but i still like it.
I wanted to see this movie in theaters but got into a fight at school and was grounded for a few weeks.
I did manage to get the movie on DVD, but it was the crappy Fullscreen version.
This movie actually can still be cannon to the alien universe. In Prometheus there’s statues that suggest that the aliens have existed before.
Alien 3 - - minutes after that finale scene, the credits list the character as “Bishop II”. He’s a synthetic!! No discussion!
The blue harvest stuff in green trivia makes happy haha. I come for the green trivia but stay for the whole video.
Hearing the 4 magical words, Green Trivia and Blue Harvest, continuously brings joy week after week!
It was just a series of "I'm gonna out-Alien the Aliens!" and "I'm gonna out-Predator the Predators!" Don't get me wrong, I enjoy dumb movies as much as the next person who enjoys dumb movies, and I enjoyed this one.
There are 6 Peter Jackson Middle Earth movies and there are 6 weeks until the Amazon Prime Rings of Power show.
