The reason why Argile was being so cool is because if he was able to stretch out the amount of time he was on the meter for one client, especially if its on a company dime, it turns into a real profitable ride, goes from a simple airport drop off for $120 to an $800-$1200 ride

For as awful a character as Ellis was, still have to give him credit: he never compromised Holly. He didn't say, "Hey this is her husband," he told them John, whom he had never met before that night, was his "old friend." I also love that apparently he asked for some coke before calling on the radio and they seemingly misunderstood what he meant.

21:00 back in the day before microwaves became commonplace, tv dinners came in aluminum foil trays with foil lids. It was similar to today's frozen family sized lasagna, but the foil was pressed to create walls to separate the items. (Imagine an aluminum foil school lunch tray)
Those tv dinners were heated up in the oven.
I'm guessing LA skyscrapers need heating at Christmas.

Fun Fact: The scene when Alan Rickman gets dropped out of the window, they had him up above an air bag and they said "we'll count to three and drop you", but they dropped him on "2" so that look of surprise on his face is genuine.
Also, prior to "Die Hard", Bruce Willis was best-known for a TV show called "Moonlighting" where he played a private detective with Cybill Shephard and the same kind hard-boiled snark he displayed in the this movie. Die Hard really made his career.

When they said I like it when the hero is like this after he says "Yipee Ki Yay Motherfucker", I was thinking this defined those heroes you like this way. His sarcastic, not superman but smart durable everyman started this new genre, along with what was high tech weaponry and tactics. A whole new era of action movie was born with this.

Hans is still regarded as one of the best movie villains of all time and the basis for a lot of the villains that came after him. It's said that the scene where he first meets John in person was not in the original script until the director learned that Alan could do a convincing American accent. Hans was such a liked character that in Die Hard 3, they created a brother for Hans, named Simon who John Goes against.

Okay the tv dinner joke.... IN the 80s, TV DInner's were generally packed in aluminum foil to seal in freshness. ONly in the late eighties, early nineties did they switch to plastic. SO prior to the switch, you had no choice but to use an oven to cook them. There were no microwaveable tv dinners back then.

This movie really started the trend of the "realistic" hero: a down to Earth man who may not have extraordinary skills but works his way through extraordinary circumsrances.
Before this action movies were defined by a lot of the actors and archetypes Hans and McClane bring up, either roided out dudes standing there and killing 400 men without reloading (modern at the time) or infinitely stoic quickdraws with notches on their belt in the old west (classics). But here comes this failing marriaged cop who's not even a detective, no martial arts skills or giant muscles, who gets scared and panics but thinks past it, played by a historically romance typecast actor.

I also think Die Hard and LW are set in the same universe, the actress Mary Ellin Tailor who plays the female news anchor talking about who Hans was is the same actress who played the police shrink in Lethal Weapon. I'd watch both movies, Lethal Weapon is set prior to Christmas and ends on Christmas when Die Hard starts, it's a perfect Christmas cross-over movie watching combo!
