This one is my favorite. For a variety of reasons but mainly due to the reconciliation of father and son. I always tear up at the scene on the edge of the cliff. My dad and I didn't have a good relationship. But we had just started working to repair it when he died suddenly. One of the things we had was memories of watching these movies while I was a kid.
This is hands down the best Indiana Jones of the original trilogy. I love just how humanized Indy is in this movie and the dysfunctional relationship that he and his dad have had over the years and how just one adventure is not only able to bring them together but help them understand one another better. Sean Connery, (James Bond) is the perfect cast for Indy's father. He and Ford connect very well and play off each other very well, as well. Just for the record by the way, I think you guys skipped a little too much in this reaction, but I do get it. I however, wanted to see your guy's reactions during the abrupt moments with Indy and his dad, especially after Henry slapped Indy in the face, and that scene with them on the blimp. That's one of the best moments in the whole movie. And yes, there are actually 4 challenges, while the movie built-up only 3. The 4th is a nice plot twist cause it's a test of temptation.
Practical effects are awesome. The optical illusion on the leap of faith scene blew my mind the first time I saw it, and til this day it still amazes me.
Indiana Jones was "the dog loving guy" looong before John Wick. I like to think Junior, being an academic as well as an adventurer, also knew the meaning behind the word Indiana. Even if that's not *why* he liked it as a name, him just knowing about the background of it and being cool with it just says more about his character.
31:39 Fun Fact about that line by Sean Connery: George Lucas was clearly responsible for the line "We Named The Dog 'Indiana' " because of the fact that George had an Alaskan Malmut named Indiana, was also George's inspiration for Chewbacca in the Star Wars franchise
Speaking as an Eagle Scout, he's the trumpet because he's the troop bugler. He uses the bugle to relay orders to the troop. In the Boy Scouts that would mostly be the morning wake up call and the nightly vespers.
I can’t tell you how much this movie means to me. I watched it together with my dad when I was little and we bonded over it. No movie has ever connected us more than this, we both love it so much 😊
No.1 film of 1989, Oscar winner for sound editing and for the planned trilogy, it was a great ending. Ford & Connery, although they were playing Sr. and Jr., they were actually 12 years apart in age. I loved it for being more than just an adventure story. At it's core, a story of father and son rebuilding their relationship and working together for a greater cause. The opening scene with Young Indy, he was played by the late River Phoenix. It did inspired a tv series, "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles", 2 seasons (28 episodes/4 TV movies).
The best part is that you can see Indiana the dog at their house in the opening scene flashback. Also, in an earlier draft of the script the guy who gives him the hat is meant to be Marion's father Abner Ravenwood, who was later his mentor. I always thought that was a cool callback.
Two actors in this were also in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Donovan was the ATAT pilot that destroys the shield generators on Hoth and the guy who played Hilter is the one Darth Vader chokes to death for coming out of light speed too close to the Hoth base alerting the Rebels.
I'm glad you watched these back to back. In the old days we had to wait YEARS between movies so we MEMORIZED the lines and scenes out of love of the series.
Surprised you cut out the whole sequence with the air ship, and the car chase with a plane after. Maybe just because it is my favorite when Dad saves them with the birds 😊
My father loved this film. He bought the VHS and watched it constantly. He would test his Surround Sound setup at 6 am on Saturdays. I hated it because of that but now that I'm an adult I love this film.
Hands down, best one. Fun fact, in the novelization, the fight on the boat in the beginning was a test Donavan set up when Henry started stonewalling. If Indie survived, he knew he had one more lead he could rely on.
The best ! What better introduction/explanation of how the hero became who he is (the whip, the fear of snakes, the scar, the hat... Everything is there ! No one noticed Salah is Gimli in The Lord of the Rings ? 😂 And the villain is Mestre Pycelle in Game of Thrones 😜
Harrison Ford has made so many movies with iconic characters. But even more than Han Solo, (sacrilegious I know), I believe Indy is his best. His skills as an actor who can transform these characters into such great and memorable characters and still have that Ford charm is truly the sign of a great actor. From his mannerisms to the sound of his voice, they all blend into one character. Love every movie I've seen him in.
Love the idea of them taking the actor for perhaps the most iconic action hero in cinema, and making him a bookish father to another one of the most iconic action heroes in cinema. I can only imagine how this played out in theaters. This one forever changed the adventure genre, arguably more than the first one did. That mix of physical comedy and dramatic tension in those action set-pieces can be seen in media like the Uncharted series. The Young Indiana series was a pretty good spin off about those in between years of after his fear of snakes to before he became a doctor of archeology. The fourth movie... exists. It was nice to see what Indiana might've been like a bit older, but still having it, but otherwise it can't even compare to this trilogy. The fifth movie, in spite of Indy being much too old, was a lot better than the 4th, but still never competing with these.
I've laughed along with you guys for two years now, and I've eagerly hoped you would watch this trilogy. Watching these movies with you has been like seeing them again for the first time. I watched these movies countless times as a kid, and I was "giddy as a school boy" to see your reactions to them. Thanks for putting out this awesome content!
this is THE trilogy!!!!! you gotta love the relationship between father and son. I love them all - but this one is the crowning jewel! don't see the others - nothing can top this. Don't choose poorly!!!!
This was supposed to be the last Indiana movie so they wanted give as many throw backs as possible. The whip scene at the beginning also gave an explaination the scar on Harrison's chin which was not make-up but was part of his history. In other films make up covers it but in the Indy films it was easier just to let it be visible. It fit the character so why not.
Temple of Doom is my favorite, too... it's literally a cinematic rollercoaster ride (and being a fan of musicals that opening number totally got me.) That seems to be the minority opinion...many call it too dark, or find Willie annoying rather than funny, but I love every moment of it.
You'd be surprised how that opinion isn't necessarily in the minority, as I've known so many people that love Temple, myself included. I still can't understand why anyone could hate such an epic movie.
This was my favorite; seeing the backstory made it so rich. Plus, River Phoenix, God rest his soul, was SUCH a gifted actor. He got down SO many of "Indiana Jones'" little mannerisms and facial expressions that it was really impressive. And yeah, the recent ones . . . just pretend it's cheap fanfiction. Nothing could hit like the first three. The cinematography, the transitions, the care taken in every little detail--nothing can touch the originals. Enjoy the new ones for what they are, but it doesn't feel right at all, unfortunately.
This is probably my favorite of the original trilogy, though I really enjoy 'Raiders.' Harrison Ford and Sean Connery have compelling, believable father-son chemistry. This is really one of the ultimate chase movies; they chase on-foot, horses, cars, trains, boats, blimps, airplanes, camels, motorcycles and tanks. Their only options would have been rocket ships or skateboards. I listened to an interview about the casting choices, and what they said was they were trying to figure out who could be Indiana Jones' dad. The answer, of course, was James Bond. I love the Marcus Brody reveal like you guys, but my favorite part is the 'Run' dialogue with Sallah, Marcus and the Gestapo agents that comes right after it.
The Temple of Doom has always been my favourite Indy film so great to hear we share that. Sean Connery was cast as Indiana Jones has his origins in James Bond - they open the same, the structure is the same. Spielberg was also talking to George Lucas about the idea of directing a Bond movie when Lucas said, 'I've got something better,' then proceeded to tell him about his idea for Indiana Smith (yes that was his original name). I wouldn't recommend going any further, you should just accept that its a trilogy. I came to regret seeing Crystal Skull and dismissed it from the canon in my head (but it still plagues my memory). I also couldn't resist seeing the last one - although I did wait several months. Kind of a silly film, but not nearly as bad as I was led to believe if I'm honest.
Fantastic closing to a great trilogy. You can't get that adventure serial feel these days. Such a simple and fun formula that's backed up by great action and fun performances.
Yes! My favorite of the series. Everything works very well: the action sequences, the humor, the father/son dynamic. I love all the films, especially the third chapter.
Glad you could appreciate the origin aspects presented in this film. Not sure if you caught it or if anyone else mentioned but in reality, Harrison Ford has a scar on his chin. This too is explained when young Indy grabs the whip and slices himself on the chin while fending off the lion on the train.
I love that you liked Temple of Doom the best. I found out several years ago that when it came out in the theater it had bad reviews. People said it was too dark, but Spielberg said he was trying to model the empire strikes back with being the darker of the three. But short round and Willie were both hysterical and I was very shocked that there was even one bad review about it. Thanks again for another great reaction video. 😊

The first two entries are the best, I can't put them one above the other, but definitively Raiders Of The Lost Ark's ending was weak even as a stand alone movie while Temple Of Doom had a more excited ending in comparison.
We didn't think it was too dark - we thought that Kate Capshaw was too annoying. If it had just been Indy and Short Round on that grand adventure it would have been thousands of times better!
@@gamp.layerx I’ve heard people didn’t care too much for her character. I thought she was hilarious because she was a total glamorous, girly girl and was completely unprepared for the adventure they were about to have, but she made it through. The moments of comedy in the movie are golden. “There are 2 dead people down here!” “There are going to be 2 dead people in here! Hurry!!”
The one thing I like about the first 3 Indiana Jones movies are the little moments where dr Jones nearly does something cool, but the universe says nope (or the actor didn’t want to sword fight). Indi misses the horse when trying to jump on it in this movie, the sand trick in the first film fails him, and harision ford not feeling like a sword fight in the first film and just shooting the prop gun instead to end the encounter. Films 4 and 5 really try to control and make the fighting more controlled and it ruins the emerision (I’m thinking about the sword fight in the jungle on top of two moving cars.)
Out of the 3, I love Raiders the most. It’s about the cynical practical adventurer who turns into a believer. A lot of reviews say there is no character arc for Indy in the first movie, but there totally is. I will 100% recommend you see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and The Dial of Destiny. Yes, they are inferior films to the trilogy, but I feel that they are absolutely fun, worth a watch, and if you know Indy and how each story is structured with plot devices piled onto each other, they stay true to those films. Dial of Destiny is way better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but is not quite on the level of the OG trilogy. Seeing Indy in his old age is absolutely a must. It’s poignant, it’s genuine, the action is all the more enthralling, and it’s a good and worthy send-off to an all-time great character in cinema. Kingdom is quite dumb, but it is far from lifeless. It catches flak for embracing what people feel are the wrong things that make an Indy movie, but in and of itself is a great adventure because they just go batshit with it. It’s an entertaining and enjoyable movie, and a reaction to see how you guys interpret the film and feel about it’s missteps would be well worth the watch. Maybe you shit on it, maybe you genuinely love it, we don’t know, but it IS something you need to watch in order for Dial to make sense, and how Dial actually redeems a few qualities of Crystal Skull.
The original Raiders of the lost Ark is still my favorite Indiana Jones movie, however this one is the most fun. RIP, Sean Connery, Denholm Elliott and River Phoenix
Indiana was George Lucas' dog's name, that's where the name and the dog story really comes from. Also, Sean Connery was cast because only James Bond could've been Indy's dad, since one of the inspiration was 007 and Spielberg's desire to make a Bond movie which he never could make.
The actor who plays Walter Donovan/Julian Glover. I met him last year at a Star Wars convention. When getting a picture with him he says here give me a hug. We gave each other hugs. We talked for a bit. He signed my Star Wars action figure. He said this is an original. I said yes. He signed it. Then talked a bit more. He was one of the kindest people to meet. I kept walking by his table because I was meeting other actors and we kept talking to each other lol
This movie shows a lot of the lore behind why Indie acts the way he does. It also has more exciting locations to explore and keeps the plot going strong so it doesnt let you feel like one scene is going on too long. It keeps that momentum going at just the right pace. The artifact they are after seems more believable than searching for alien space crafts or something ridiculous like big foots armored shoe. You still get attached to the new characters throughout the film and none of them feel like they go over the top to outshine Indiana as the main character. You still get the cool stunts and all the cool one liners. The comedy bits are still very good. I like how they kept the feel that while Indiana is the main character he isnt overpowered or has plot armor. He has to learn to adapt and overcome his obstacles. Which makes that one line he does sometimes about not having a plan is the plan so good. He just does what he has to and adapts to any struggles he encounters along the way. Which is a skill I think most men would love to have. I know I would love to be able to adapt and overcome any obstacle that comes my way. Stuck in line at the dmv or chik fil a drive thru no problem overcame and avoided with a simple change of direction. Not making enough to pay your taxs no problem just adapt and overcome to get a raise just in time. Kids driving me crazy everyday. No problem baby sitter hired and complication avoided. But wait!! No babysitter for hire in the area available? Easy call nearby reletives to help or a friend to have their kids do a sleepover or take em off your hands for the day. Baby is crying grab nearest toy and whip it across the room to them (without harming them obviously) like Indiana Jones avoids traps and obstacles last second. Sooo many problems avoided so much easier. If only life worked like that for real.
I like how the three trials were actually five : the traps, the "duel" and the selection of the Grail. And visit Petra in Jordan if you can. It is amazing.
Love all the Indiana Jones movies, but this one is easily my favorite. The beginning back story is great. The chemistry between Ford and Connery is fantastic. And a perfect mix of action and just the right amount of comedy.
Seeing the both of u react to these 3 films took me back to my childhood, and back to when I introduced my daughters to them. Spielberg and Lucas actually based the Indiana Jones character off of Sean Connery's James Bond. Which is why Harrison's wearing the white tux in the beginning of Doom. Also, River Phoenix captured Harrison Ford's facial expressions and mannerisms to the T, RIP to a truly talented young man who left us to soon. These 3 films are absolute perfection. As far as 4&5, they're ok for one watch each just to see Harrison do his Indy thing. But I'll never rewatch them like the original 3. I can't wait to see your extended review of ALL 3👏
I graduated HS in 89, and I saw this movie 3x that summer and I can count on one hand the movies I've seem 3 times at theaters. As normally I don't watch movies once, let alone three times, as I find most movies below average at best, and never worth the asking price. That being said, this was an amazing summer blockbuster, and a perfect ending to a great character and his amazing adventures. River Phoenix killed it as young Indy, so sad we never got to see where he may have gone as an actor. And Sean Connery as Indy's dad was icing on the cake, as he was so very different from Indy, but you also see how and why Indy was his own man. An amazing trilogy, and if you guys stop here, most wouldn't blame you. LOL

Glad you guys had such a great time watching these classic films. There is no reason to watch the later two films. Indiana Jones should remain as a trilogy.
Fun fact: The scene where Indy shoots through 3 people with the luger he takes is actually somewhat based on real history. Many German soldiers in Africa were afraid of being attacked by rhinos or other animals with tough skin and so made their own high-velocity armor piercing rounds with solid steel bullets and overpacked powder for their personal sidearms, especially tank crewmen since they were not issued rifles. The German army confiscated these rounds later because they had a very high chance to ricochet if discharged in a tank...

Nah Temple of Doom is by FAAAAAR the best Indy film lol
I'd even say it's the greatest thing Spielberg has ever made, tied with Jaws.
That stamp gag cracked me up. Felt so real... everyone has had that moment of like:
"What the... was that.... was that me?"
Practical effects are awesome. The optical illusion on the leap of faith scene blew my mind the first time I saw it, and til this day it still amazes me.
I'm glad you guys had so much fun with this. It truly is a classic.
31:39
Fun Fact about that line by Sean Connery:
George Lucas was clearly responsible for the line "We Named The Dog 'Indiana' " because of the fact that George had an Alaskan Malmut named Indiana, was also George's inspiration for Chewbacca in the Star Wars franchise
This is my favorite of the series because of the spiritual journey Indiana takes in order to save his father.
Speaking as an Eagle Scout, he's the trumpet because he's the troop bugler. He uses the bugle to relay orders to the troop. In the Boy Scouts that would mostly be the morning wake up call and the nightly vespers.
Reveille and Taps 🙂
When I was younger Raiders was my favorite and Temple was my guilty pleasure. Now, in my forties, Temple is the one I watch the most.
The best part is that you can see Indiana the dog at their house in the opening scene flashback. Also, in an earlier draft of the script the guy who gives him the hat is meant to be Marion's father Abner Ravenwood, who was later his mentor. I always thought that was a cool callback.
In a perfect world, Abner Ravenwood would've been played by Tom Selleck at the beginning of this film.
This will always be my favorite Indiana Jones film. The dynamic with Sean Connery is just too perfect.
Rest in Peace River Phoenix, Denholm Elliott, and Sean Connery.
General Maximilian Veers and Admiral Kendal Ozzel.
I'm glad you watched these back to back. In the old days we had to wait YEARS between movies so we MEMORIZED the lines and scenes out of love of the series.
Been enjoying these Indiana Jones uploads but The Last Crusade is my absolute favorite of the series so I know this is gonna be another good reaction
It's a shame they never made any more of these movies. Oh well, we'll still have this perfect trilogy forever.
And the villain is Mestre Pycelle in Game of Thrones 😜
Julian Glover has the distinction of have played a villain in Doctor Who, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Games of Thrones. What a career.
Out of all of the Indiana Jones movies, this one is my favorite.
great ending to a great trilogy
Thanks for bringing those 3 reactions out so quickly...not let us wait for weeks before doing another one.
Man, Indiana Jones is so cool. I forgot how entertaining these movies are!
I honestly can't believe it's be two years man, that's wild as hell and I appreciate you for continuing to watch us; means the world!
@OctoKrool how could I not!? The energy you guys bounce back and forth off each other is contagious. I hope there are many more years to come!
this is THE trilogy!!!!! you gotta love the relationship between father and son.
Out of all of the Indiana jones films, this one has to be my favorite, Sean Connery aka James Bond was amazing in this film, Rip Sean Connery 😢🫡
11:00 - 11:35 is my favorite all-time interaction between the two of YOU. Now THAT was COMEDY GOLD!!! RIGHT THERE!!! 👍😎 🤣🤣🤣
I like how this one had a bunch of comedic bits but they fit so well, also love the opening showing him as a kid
You now know what allot of others know. Indy in the main films is just badass.
My personal favorite of what I think should have stayed a trilogy!
Dose, it means 3 movie sequels, or it's something else
True
Agree
I still think the adventures could have been continued with Short Round. I also liked the tv series...mostly.
Ah the last one of the TRILOGY.
Fantastic closing to a great trilogy. You can't get that adventure serial feel these days. Such a simple and fun formula that's backed up by great action and fun performances.
Temple of Doom is my All Time Nr.1 too. Love it so much. But all 3 Movies ( from the 80s) are incredible
Yes! My favorite of the series. Everything works very well: the action sequences, the humor, the father/son dynamic. I love all the films, especially the third chapter.
This one of my dad’s fav films. One of the best third installments in a trilogy/franchise.
Glad you could appreciate the origin aspects presented in this film. Not sure if you caught it or if anyone else mentioned but in reality, Harrison Ford has a scar on his chin. This too is explained when young Indy grabs the whip and slices himself on the chin while fending off the lion on the train.
I watched this one the most growing up. I truly loved how they worked as father and son
5:00 Now you know about the snake thing. Took a lot not to spoil it in Lost Ark
This movie is in my top 5. I truly love it.
“There are 2 dead people down here!”
“There are going to be 2 dead people in here!
Or the submarine scene in Raiders, where he took the Nazi's uniform, and it was too small for him.
This is my favorite of the Indiana Jones films. Harrison Ford and Sean Connery worked so well together.
“Why’s my man got a trumpet?!”
It’s a bugle.
As a kid watching this when it came out at the cinema I always loved that Indiana Jones Dad was James Bond
I like how the three trials were actually five : the traps, the "duel" and the selection of the Grail.
And visit Petra in Jordan if you can. It is amazing.
Awww you guys skipped my favorite scene in the blimp! "No ticket" , guess I'll watch it on patreon 😀
LOL
Personal favorite out of the original trilogy. Everyone should watch these films at least once in their life. Thanks to you two they will! 🍕
I love this movie, one of my favorite movies!!
No views you say? :)
Edit: enjoy this amazing movie. It's a classic! The dynamic between Indiana and his father is so good.
Best thing about this is most of the locations are real and not CGI
This is the absolute best movie of the Indiana Jones series
I had heard so much about this movie from my friends at school. (The same with Arachnophobia.) One day while browsing through my parents' VHSs I found a home recording of this movie, and just watched it in one go. Good times.
Perfect ending to a great trilogy. It's a shame they didn't make any more of them. 😏
_Temple of Doom_ is not my personal favorite, but all three movies are very worthy of being someone’s favorite, and that’s the beauty of it. Take your pick. You won’t be wrong.
One of the best films ever! Fun, a bit silly but allowable, and Connery is a perfect match to Ford as a father-son duo. Great to watch you laugh and carry on with your excitement.
@OctoKrool. This is my third favorite after Temple then the Original... Most of u huge fans wish the franchise stopped here. Hope you both had as much fun watching as well all did (it looked like you both did), Have a Happy Thanksgiving with your family and thanks for all the reactions. Conery and Ford had amazing chemistry
Temple Of Doom is my personal favorite as well. Loved watching that movie growing up
This is my personal favorite Indy movie. Probably the most quotable of the trilogy. And for me, the line I'll remember best is definitely "No ticket!" One of the greatest group reactions ever.
As for the 4th one, based on something you guys said in the Temple of Doom reaction, I don't think you'd appreciate it. I liked it better than most people, but I wouldn't recommend it for you guys.
Haven't seen the 5th yet.
This is my favorite of the original three. It was not when it came out, but over the years this one really grew on me.
Lmao at the comedic timing of
"More boats??"
Indy: More boats.
My favorite of the series. RIP Sean Connery. He's Indy's father thru and thru.
