The 3rd one is good too, it has Samuel L. Jackson lending John a hand. 2 more recent Bruce Willis action films are "RED" and "RED2" with stellar casts and more humor. I also like him in "The Last Boy Scout".
I once heard best justification of why it is christmas movie: "It is christmas movie because it being christmas is integral part of plot (like almost empty building, holiday party, security running with minumun personel etc..). If you could replace christmas with 4th of july or easter without affecting plot it would not be christmas movie."
Addie: "Yippee-ki-yay, motherf-" Me: Are you mad? That made my day 😂! Now, you'll have to do the "Dirty Harry" movies and speak the lines from those movies ... "Who's your Addie?" Merry Christmas!
Die hard 3 is also pretty great. It moves a bit away from the christmas setting, but it also has a really good secondary lead. Also, it has a really interesting alternate ending, that's worth checking out after seeing the film.
I would say it is a Christmas movie. Aside from all the action and deaths going on. John and his wife are able to restore their love for one another just in time for the holidays as they reunite their family after being apart for so long. Not to mention John is able to have a change of heart after realizing his faults in regard to his wife’s career path and how he should be more supportive to her.
Yippy-ki-yay, Addie. Die Hard (1988) and its sequel Die Hard 2: Die Harder (1990) ARE Christmas movies. It's really great that you've finally watched the sequel after watching the first film, last year. I'm looking forward to having a Die Hard double feature soon. BTW, nice Addie intro and outro.
...and speaking of Bruce Willis, I suggest The Last Boy Scout (1991, directed by Tony Scott), Death Becomes Her (1992, directed by Robert Zemeckis), Pulp Fiction (1994), 12 Monkeys (1995), The Fifth Element (1997), The Jackal (1997), Armageddon (1998, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Michael Bay), The Whole Nine Yards (2000), The Whole Ten Yards (2004), Disney's The Kid (2000), Tears of the Sun (2003), and Death Wish (2018).
I just watched both Die Hard movies last night, with your full-length reactions on Patreon, and enjoyed them. The question is, how does John & Holly get themselves in these kind of situations?
Good reaction. Addie. There's fun factoid about this movie as well. One of the actors, the late Fred Thompson, who played Trudeau (the guy who runs the airport) actually became a US Senator. He was also one of the presidential front-runners for the Republican nomination back in 2008, but eventually lost the primaries to john mccain. Anyway, one of his other notable roles in that same year 1990 as 'Die Hard 2', was as an Admiral in the movie 'The Hunt For Red October'. He passed away in 2015.
Great reaction!! The actor playing Major Grant, John Amos, had been known for playing very likable characters from his roles in the tv series Good Times and the movie Coming to America. So that added to the shock value when his character was revealed to be a villain.
There's a line from the 4th movie (which is very different than the first 3, I enjoy it) that perfectly explains McClane. He is telling another character that he's no hero, he's not that guy. Other character asks him why he kept doing all the stuff then. John replies, "Because there was no one else there to do it." And the other character says, "that's why you're that guy."
William Sadler was also President Ellis in Iron Man 3 which is also considered by some to be a Christmas movie. He reprised the role in three episodes of Agents of shield.
Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie! Multiple characters say "Merry Christmas" throughout and it takes place during the company Christmas party. Love your videos and have a Merry Christmas!!!
Not really. Christmas isn't essential to the plot like say Elf. You could set Die Hard at any time of the year and it wouldn't massively change. Okay, people wouldn't be saying Merry Christmas to each other but that isn't important to the story.
@@markysumm72 I think it just depends what someone defines as a Christmas movie. It's the same with a few others, as well. Home Alone, for example, could've taken place at any point through the year but it didn't. Put it at any time of the year and it wouldn't massively change. However, it is widely considered to be a Christmas movie, as well. People just like a debate with no stakes so that we can have an opinion about something safe :). I think it definitely IS a Christmas movie. It isn't just an action movie that takes place at Christmas. It has the themes of family, togetherness, forgiveness, and redemption. John McClane's whole purpose is to spend Christmas with his estranged family and overcome their difficulties. The scene where he says "she's heard me say 'I love you 1000 times, but she's never heard me say 'I'm sorry'" shows this. Take for comparison the film Lethal Weapon. It is a great movie, but it is a perfect example of a movie that takes place AT Christmas without being a Christmas movie. Those cops are investigating a homicide and get involved in a complicated case. But it could happen any time of the year. Even the Christmas lines could just as easily be Halloween lines. But in Die Hard, the fact that Hans and his gang are committing these acts at Christmas time is shown to make it especially heinous. And then punch at the end is for someone who shamelessly exploited a family, family being what Christmas is all about. If the fact that Die Hard involves violently stopping criminals automatically undoes the Christmas Spirit, then Home Alone isn't a Christmas movie either.
Themes of family, togetherness, forgiveness, and redemption happen in all sorts of movies that have nothing to do with any holidays. Adding some Christmas music doesn't make it a Christmas movie.
Totally agree. Plus the bad guys motivation is greed and Johns is as you said his family, classic christmas movie conflict. And his wifes name is Holly for fuck sake, how much more do people need?!

Yes, Die Hard is a X-mas movie. The movie is conically in the Christmas Season. There is iconography of Christmas stuff (Christmas Tree, Bows), has characters referencing Christmas things such as "ho ho ho", has "Christmas songs" playing, this movie wouldn't have happened at another time (because John was there to see wife @ Christmas at a Christmas party), heart warming Christmas like story at the end with John finally getting to be with wife and making a new friend in the cop.
The bad guy isnt just in Shawshank, hes also the reaper from Bill & Ted 😊 But yeah Die Hard 2 is absolutely packed with famous names who may not be leads, but theyve starred in a LOT of movies and shows.
Yes William Sadler was also the main villain in the Steven Seagal action movie Hard To Kill in 1990 as a corrupt Senator with mob ties and hired his hit men to kill Seagal’s character.
I wrote this on another reactors Die Hard video. Hans called him a cowboy coming to the rescue like in an old movies. Bruce Willis grew up watching those movies, like Roy Rodgers, the singing cowboy from the 1940s. That's why he called himself Roy when talking to Al on the walkie talkie. Roy Rodgers would sing "I'm an old cowhand, from the Rio Grande" the chorus for the song was Yippy Ai Yo Kai Yay! Or shortened to Yippey Kai Yay! Die Hard gave a new meaning to those nonsense cowboy words in the 1980s. Like today we have YOLO and LEROYYYYYY JENKINSSS!!!
Best start to any video ever. 🤣 🤣 🤣 To answer your question, Die Hard most certainly IS a Christmas movie. One of my favorites too. Merry Christmas Addie 🥂🍻
Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie: Christmas music, takes place during the Christmas season, Christmas party and decorations, and Christmas miracles for the bad guys and the protagonists alike! Granted, it was short lived for the bad guys, but reconciling husband and wife is definitely a Christmas miracle! Also, it was a "white Christmas" in Las Angeles - even if it was "snowing" millions in bearer bonds...
Die Hard is practically a Hallmark type Christmas movie. A family in turmoil. Put in a bad situation. Fights to get it back together. Big hugs and Christmas music at the end. How is it not a Christmas movie?
"He has shoes this time" was on the Japanese poster for this movie. To me a Christmas Movie has to meet 3 criteria; 1. Is there a wholesome family moment at the end? 2. Would this work at any other time of the year? 3. Does it actually take place at Christmas? John is flown in for Christmas, something a company wouldn't do at any other time of the year. "Now I have a Machine Gun. Ho Ho Ho" wouldn't be iconic and be on merchandise. The Christmas Tape to tape the gun on his back on the final confrontation could be regular tape, but again, it's from a Christmas display. And he reunites with his estranged wife and they're both happy to be going home for Christmas. So yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
4:35 "This is Buckwheat. The clubhouse is open." is a reference to the 1922-1944 series Our Gang (later renamed Little Rascals). Buckwheat was a character played by William Thomas, Jr (from 1935-1944) and the 'clubhouse' is a reference to their All-Star Clubhouse.
Wow, Addie!😱I think that is the closest I've seen you come to swearing.😆Great reactions to "Die Hard 2"!!!🎄🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽(Die Hard 3) "Die Hard with a Vengeance" (1995) surprisingly is also a very good film, and well liked. Usually films start to go down in quality at this point, but Die Hard delivers!🙂
That actor was also the dad of the two murdered girls in THE GREEN MILE - DIEHARD is a Christmas movie - it takes place on Christmas Eve, the setting is a corporate Christmas party and Ellis was snorting Santa's snow - if that's not Christmas, I don't know what is 😂
Greetings from Finland girl!!! This was directed by Renny Harlin and he's from Finland 2!!! You should check out Cliffhanger and The long kiss goodnight also directed by him.. I mean if u haven't seen those yet??? "I'll be back" 😎
4 more set at Christmas: "Lethal Weapon" (1987) Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Gary Busey "R.E.D." (2010) Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Helen Mirren, Brian Cox "The Long Kiss Goodnight" (1996) Geena Davis, Samuel L. Jackson, Brian Cox "Survivor" (2015) Milla Jovovich, Pierce Brosnan
I remember watching this movie on CBS back in 2000, and the way they removed or dubbed the swearing is hilarious especially when John McClane says, "Yippee Kay Yay Mr Falcon!" Lol!! Or "Forget Monday Night quarterbacks! My wife is on one of those Damn planes those guys are messing with! And if you moved your fat feet like I told you so, we wouldn't be deep in snow right now!" And, "Come to papa Falcon." In the the theatrical release, it was "Come to papa, Scumbag ".
Die Hard is a Christmas movie because Christmas is essential to the plot. If there wasn’t a Christmas party at Nakatomi Plaza, John McLane wouldn’t have been there. Die Hard 2 is just a movie that takes place around Christmas.
The "edited for TV" version of Die Hard 2 is also entertaining, if not for the ridiculous and unintentionally hilarious way they censor the movie for television. In it, Bruce Willis' voice is dubbed out with a voice that sounds very much unlike Bruce Willis, and they dub out the profanity with some pretty absurd phrases, chief among them "Yippie Ki Yay, Mister Falcon!" 😂
I haven't checked this but the main villain, William Sadler, turns up in a whole bunch of places and if you did a Marvel marathon you may also be able to spot him as the President in Iron Man 3.
As someone who does not entirely agree. Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie in the general sense. It takes place during Christmas which is a pivotal plot point to the story of why John makes his way to California. Where I argue that it is not a Christmas movie is that the Spirit/activity of Christmas is not a focal point of the story (I.E. the giving of gifts, Santa representation, and personally connecting with an inner child feeling.). TLDR Die Hard is a Christmas movie*.
Great job! Love your spontaneous & authentic reactions. I always watch the Die Hard series every Christmas, they are my Christmas movies!!! Lol I liked and subed!
Maybe best intro/outro ever!🤣♥️ Christmas fantasy movie perhaps next like Hogfather? Great reaction, thanks! More classic action movies like Point Break, Bad Boys, Long Kiss Goodnight, Cliffhanger, Fixing tha shadow..
IMHO though I was never impressed by the live action Discworld adaptations compared to the animated adaptations Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music that came much earlier.
Yippee-ki-yay Motherflerken! Die Hard is absolutely a Christmas movie. It's set at a Christmas party, there's the tracksuit top with "Ho Ho Ho" written on it, it's set on Christmas Eve, John's wife's name is literally Holly, the soundtrack is full of Christmas songs, Hans Gruber literally says "It's Christmas, Theo. It's a time for miracles", Hans is kinda Grinch-like in that he's trying to steal all the 'presents' from the Nakatomi vault, the basic plot is as Christmassy as it gets - a man fighting (literally, this time) to get home to his family for Christmas...and the writer said it's a Christmas movie 😁
You answered your question yourself, the moment you heard "Let it snow" you said I think it;s a christmas movie - yes for me it's the background musik. IF they use christmas songs for the score it's a christmas movie. Die Harde 1 did it even more.
Yes, Die Hard is in fact a Christmas movie but it's one that can be enjoyed at any time. It takes place on Christmas Eve and a Christmas party is a key plot factor. That's more than enough to be considered a Christmas movie, anyone who thinks otherwise is just wrong.
To answer your question, Die Hard is absolutely a Christmas movie. It may not be one in the traditional sense, but that does not make it any less of one than say, A Christmas Story. Also, merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
I think you could say it is Christmas adjacent - the story takes place AT Christmas as does Lethal Weapon, but the story itself is not Christmas centric.
31:20 You saw him in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘸𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, but probably most recently in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘔𝘪𝘭𝘦. He was the father of the two girls who were murdered and got John Coffey wrongly accused of murder. He was also the President of the United States in 𝘐𝘳𝘰𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘯 3.
You have seen this actor, the bad guy, in the Green Mile too. He's the 2 little girls' daddy. Great video. Thanks for sharing this moments with us. Merry Christmas 🙂🌲🎁🎅
No, a movie isn’t a Christmas movie just because it takes place at Christmas time. Die Hard 3 takes place in the summer, so you don’t have to wait another whole year to watch it.
Die Hard 1 and 2 are clearly christmas movies. The first is literally a christmas party in Nakatomi Tower, the second one is just before christmas. The third, however, is _not_ a christmas movie. And there are no more Die Hard movies after 3, no matter what wikipedia and/or google tell you
When he said, Just the fax, m'am, he was paodying an old detective TV show, where the star (Jack Webb) would always say to people he was interviewing, Just the facts, m'am.
The first one was definitely a Christmas movie and it even has a Christmas miracle in it to prove it Because as Hans promised" It's Christmas, Theo. It's the time of miracles. You asked for miracles, Theo, I give you the F.B.I. " the second movie is less so because it only has all the people traveling for the holidays and clogging the airports at Christmas to make the story of the terrorist taking over to pose the maximum threat work to fit the plot
There are some annoying things in the movie, for example, when he talks about the Glocks, they aren't porcelain. Also, only one had a Glock, the other looked to have a Beretta. The one that Col. Stuart has when reprimanding Miller IS a Glock, so it's not like they didn't have them available. Trust people who don't know about guns to represent guns accurately. 🤪
Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie and not just because it takes place at a Christmas party or because it has Christmas music. It's because it has a message of love and family defeating greed and selfishness. Think about the end where they defeat Gruber. The materialistic "terrorist" is defeated by the good guys sacrificing the expensive Rolex watch. This one is a little harder to justify calling a xmas movie but there's not much more xmas-y than being stuck in an airport trying to get the family together.
It is a movie about a man that trying to get home to patch up his marriage and spend christmas with his children. it is not only a christmas film it is a christmas drama,
My quick and dirty test for whether something is a Christmas movie: if you remove Christmas, do you need to make changes to the script to make it work? Christmas movie. By this, Die Hard 1 and 2 are Christmas. Without the circumstances of the holiday, you need to rewrite. Something like Lethal Weapon is borderline because there are some themes underlying. But you could have the same exact plot and story if it took place literally any time, the holiday is completely circumstantial to the plot.
I understand the arguments for and against it being a Christmas movie. The problem we get into is that the criteria used to either include it or exclude it also have to be applied to other movies. Once you do that, a TON of movies you've always thought of as Christmas movies suddenly aren't anymore (include It's A Wonderful Life) -or- a TON of movies you would never consider Christmas movies become them. Anything from Gremlins to Lethal Weapon. I'm just saying, if you don't cherry pick which movies you're categorizing and play by the same rules for all movies... Bad Santa, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, A Muppet Christmas Carol, and about 75 other movies end up in some mighty weird columns. Especially Hallmark Channel "Christmas" movies.
Great movie. Another great Christmas movie just like Die Hard. You should also watch Die Hard 3 (Not a Christmas movie) and stop the other Die Hard movies are horrible. Of course you decide what you like all we do is warn you about the really really bad movies :) . In the Die Hard franchise they had a perfect run for years with first 3 movies but you cant always succeed. Die hard 4 was very bad and depressing and when you thought it was over but then somehow they succeed to make even a way way more bad movie in Die Hard 5 (which I don't even consider a Die Hard movie), Save you're self some time skip part 4 and 5. Also The General in Die Hard 2 comes from the same fictional country as the bad guy in Commando and also that fictional country is where Predator takes place so Commando, Die Hard and Predator all happen in the same universe :)
Die hard is a christmas movie. It is also a movie you can watch year round. You don't have to wait as long to watch Die hard 3 though. It doesn't take place in winter.
"Hopefully he has shoes in this movie." What pretty much all of us were thinking when we watched this. 😄 You're the best Addie!
He may not have shoes in the first one, but he still had his sole, if you know what I mean.
Which was apparently the tag line on the Japanese edition of the movie.
I love how you picked Robert Patrick out on his first scene in the movie!
The 3rd one is good too, it has Samuel L. Jackson lending John a hand. 2 more recent Bruce Willis action films are "RED" and "RED2" with stellar casts and more humor. I also like him in "The Last Boy Scout".

If you could replace christmas with 4th of july or easter without affecting plot it would not be christmas movie."
Even the director of Die Hard says it's a Christmas movie. Alan Rickman is literally The Grinch character.
Lethal Weapon is absolutely another must watch action movie set during Christmas

"I'll be back" 😎
Die Hard is not a Christmas movie...it is THE Christmas movie. Also Merry Christmas Addie!
4 more set at Christmas:
"Lethal Weapon" (1987) Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Gary Busey
"R.E.D." (2010) Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Helen Mirren, Brian Cox
"The Long Kiss Goodnight" (1996) Geena Davis, Samuel L. Jackson, Brian Cox
"Survivor" (2015) Milla Jovovich, Pierce Brosnan
loved that opening haha
I remember watching this movie on CBS back in 2000, and the way they removed or dubbed the swearing is hilarious especially when John McClane says, "Yippee Kay Yay Mr Falcon!" Lol!!
Or "Forget Monday Night quarterbacks! My wife is on one of those Damn planes those guys are messing with! And if you moved your fat feet like I told you so, we wouldn't be deep in snow right now!"
And, "Come to papa Falcon." In the the theatrical release, it was "Come to papa, Scumbag ".
Or 'Melon farmer.'
Merry Christmas Addie. Hope you have a fantastic holiday
The phrase you're looking for is, "Yippee-ki-yay Mr Falcon!"
The villain of this movie, played the father of the murdered girls in Green Mile, maybe you remember him from that movie.
Die Hard is a Christmas movie because Christmas is essential to the plot. If there wasn’t a Christmas party at Nakatomi Plaza, John McLane wouldn’t have been there. Die Hard 2 is just a movie that takes place around Christmas.
Omg you totally caught me off guard at the end 😳😂
At first I didn't think Die Hard was a Christmas movie but I've come around to it.
Happy Holidays!
2 thumbs up for the first 3 seconds of the vid
“Yippie-ki-yay, mr falcon”
31:35 He also plays President Ellis in the MCU.
Addie's reaction at 25:52 is hilarious!!
Was just about to go into the loft to find my Hogfather dvds. A great little mini-series / 2 part movie. 🎅
LKG and Cliffhanger were also by the same director Renny Harlin as DH2.
IMHO though I was never impressed by the live action Discworld adaptations compared to the animated adaptations Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music that came much earlier.
Yeah, I can't wait for die hard 3 so she says the n word at the beginning 😂
Damn that intro was about to go off 🤣 merry Christmas
That was a really big fireball for an aircraft that was running on fumes.
Great movie. Great reaction. Merry Christmas Addie.
'Tis a Christmas movie as it hits all the points.
Absolutely love it when you swear, Addie! 😍🤭🤭
0:00 Damn, I really thought you were gonna say it... 🤣🤣🤣
This is one of my favorite Die Hard films ever made! I'm only counting this and the first one as a Christmas movie. 🎄🥰
1 and 2 are both Christmas movies, because they wouldn't have been in the situation, except they were visiting for Christmas.
Seeing as I watch it every year at Christmas time I'm going to say yes. It's a Christmas movie.
Die Hard 1 and 2 are clearly christmas movies.
The first is literally a christmas party in Nakatomi Tower, the second one is just before christmas.
The third, however, is _not_ a christmas movie.
And there are no more Die Hard movies after 3, no matter what wikipedia and/or google tell you
When he said, Just the fax, m'am, he was paodying an old detective TV show, where the star (Jack Webb) would always say to people he was interviewing, Just the facts, m'am.
the TV edit is "Mr. Falcon"
Sarah Brady wanted to ban that gun and a bunch of other non existent guns she saw in movies
But you could have the same exact plot and story if it took place literally any time, the holiday is completely circumstantial to the plot.
the first two are in fact christmas movies - i just rewatched the first two yesterday in the spirit of the holidays 😆
Great reaction as always. The 3rd die hard is the best one!!!
It's not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi Tower - everybody knows that. So of course it is an Xmas movie. 😄
The "happy ending" of this movie does somewhat overlook the fact that 200 people had just died in the earlier plane crash. It's still great though.
Yep, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Not all of them, but the first two for sure.
Your best intro , LMAO and yes its a Christmas movie.
Die Hard 4 isn't the greatest but isn't that bad. 5 shouldn't have been made.
1:09 - Yes.
There are two types of people: Those who think Die Hard is a Christmas movie, and those who are wrong :)
Can't wait for the third one. It's not a Christmas movie and doesn't even take place in the winter so you don't have to make us wait a year!
Great reaction and Yes this is a Christmas movie.
Die hard is a christmas movie. It is also a movie you can watch year round. You don't have to wait as long to watch Die hard 3 though. It doesn't take place in winter.
