There's a kind of satirical fashion book from the 80s called "The Official Preppy Handbook" I think it's a good read for anyone who likes the aesthetic... this feels more like prep cosplay, "dark/light academia" is very much a Gen Z spin on the prep/ivy/oxford look but I don't think they're the same.
Of course 'old' preppy looks aren't the same as what we have now, but at least to me it seems that what counts as 'preppy' can probably change. If I can give an example, wearing a collared shirt without a suit jacket probably used to be 'casual', and wearing those masculine 'preppy' looks as a woman wouldn't be 'sophisticated'. Yet now, if I wear a white shirt with a collar, my friends immediately label it as a 'preppy' look. This is just my opinion but these aesthetics seem so relative, that can we really label Gen-Z takes on 'preppy' clothing as different to the prep style itself? PS: I'm really not sure why I wrote an entire paragraph about this - fashion's just a fun topic. ^^ Sorry if this came across as confrontational, that was not my intention lol. Have a good one!
If your into fashion preppy is so good. You have so many options to play with. You can literally have a different outfit every day for the rest of your life
Well done, Robin! I can sense you are talking about what you know and appreciate. The passion in the timbre of your voice comes through so well. The esthetic of the video serves the subject matter beautifully.
Feel free to play around with the color of the shirt? I think not. White, blue, blue and white Cambridge stripe. Pink if you must. But only if you must.
My unsolicited feedback to this: I really like the concept of this video and I think that part is very well done. Regarding the advice on the different looks, I disagree pretty drastically. When dealing with terms like preppy or ivy style, there is some leeway and styles are constantly evolving but they lose their meaning once there are no definitive elements left. I feel, this is more of a general suggestion what a student could wear everyday, rather than a specific preppy or ivy lookbook. I just discovered your channel and really like what I see so far, so I felt like chiming in here.
Fashion is a difficult and controversal subject to me. On one hand I see it like you, that fashion gives you the possibility to express your own personality. On the other hand fashion is a very dirty business. Poisoned vilages in India, huge CO2 pollution, very cheap production,... and if you pay more because you buy clothes from a expensive brand it doesn't get better, just more expensive. So for me, I don't want to be part of it. I dress minimalistic, so very few clothes and pretty much all the same, while I try to get as clean as possible produced clothes when I have to buy something.

Robin, you really seemed to enjoy making this video. Maybe it's time to make "Vol. 2" for dressing preppy in warmer weather. Just a thought.

This guy has no feeling for preppie, and there's nothing about him which is preppie - it's sad, because he becomes a caricature.
I love you Waldun

For real preppy, come checkout the older men in the eastern suburbs of Sydney 😂
Why no mention of shoes or pants?
I literally was looking for someone to help me with this 😭
