25 RULES TO LOOK PREPPY AF
• 25 Rules To Look PREPP...
This is my favorite video.
Haha this video is fucking amazing. Love the humour in it, and damn I love this preppy style.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
This is wildy accurate and my brain has exploded how accurate this is in my old town in the Hamptons. Its so accurate I had to stop the video from laughing so hard.
As an American, I can identify with the preppie style because I've dressed this way all my life.
However, the bracelet thing is silly.
The no denim tip is ridiculous. Denim can be pulled off if the denim is clean, well fitted, and not faded too much.
A polo shirt with your own monogram is notches above the Polo "horse and player" embroidery. L.L. Bean and Lands' End both make excellent polos that are high quality and they will monogram at a nominal fee.
Just my take on this...
That’s what I always thought. My parents just dressed me that way. Way before the Preppy Handbook
Definitely no polo ponies. Ponies are for phonies.
Totally agree
@@BrianMorisky Brooks Bros. Polo’s w/the Golden Fleece.
@@samanthab1923 Maybe from the 80s when they were made in USA, but now when they are made in Asia; no. Really only Lacoste. Golden Fleece is so Palm Beach real estate investor vulgar arriviste.
Great vid, though jeans can definitely be preppy! Either with a rugby shirt or worn like you're going out hunting.
Jeans with an olive Barbour wax jacket and brown Dubarry boots is a very pretty look. Add a polished wood and steel shotgun slung to your back and that screams "I went to a Ivy League/NESCAC school"
My fav look of all times since the early 20s, this and between the classic style with a touch of sophistication 😀
I am surprised Talbots was not on the list. Loved this video. A true prepster has everything monogrammed
I was thinking os getting my email address as a monogram.
The preppy ladies need their own video
The best video about old money! Saved and will check with it definitely!
The only logo you should have on your clothes should be your own monogram!
Agreed! But well placed and understated so as not to seem pretentious!
You are not playing.
I had a friend who used to invent monograms that weren't his. It threw people for a loop.
Over the top, have your logo inside
Good jeans are good.Selvage red tab with Bass Weejun.
I do agree with most of your tips, although dark denim jeans also are a superb option for preppy style. If you make them salvage u gain additional points. In my opinion loafers, nice pair of socks and dark denim is a classic and goes a long way when jt comes to preppy :)
Very true.
Sounds like not much has changed since The Preppy Handbook by Lisa Birnbach was published in 1980. IIRC that book covered not only clothing but where to live, what jobs to have, what friends to keep, what cars to drive etc. It explained Old Money rich versus just plain rich. Overnight half the people on my state college campus went from middle class polyester and denim to blueblood cotton and wool.
I also remember reading the Preppy Handbook way back when it first came out.
Awesome stuff...looking forward to the next chapter!!
Thanks for another entertaining and educational video.
Thank you for a pleasant video
Scrap that wear a seersucker for everything 😂. Not a bad idea since it doesn't need ironing and great for summer.
Jeans can be preppy, Mr Ralph Lauren himself wears them, even with dinner jackets. I agree with most points, but I will add Corderoy trousers for winter, striped rugby shirts and Chelsea/Chukka boots. Socks must also be patterned and/or bright coloured.
LOVE the prep tips. I went to college in Boston and was in heaven there and on Martha's Vineyard. Going there in a few weeks !
Have a great time at Martha’s Vineyard!
Yes!
Polo is nouveau riche. True preppy is always Lacoste.
Always this video screams try hard wannabe
I grew up with original Lacoste, but then they stopped being made in France. Quality went down. Polo stepped in with heavier weight. Now I like Carolina Herrera. Very heavy weight and few know the little CH logo.
2:57 no blue jeans?? I’ve seen too many outfits wearing blue jeans, white shirts and some DW watches and they looked so preppy 🤩
Agree. Light wash with a madras pattern polo or button up.
Jeans can be preppy. I have seen the faded ones worn with a polo shirt and or sweater and it looks fab. I guess to each his own.
My online denim brand is going to be very fancy schmancy for denim. Hand made boots, belts, and a section of hand made day dresses in store, but most of the sales are going to be for fitted jeans online. We'll have AI determine your measurements and craft a pair to order, and the stores need to have some extra offerings. Kind of a half online, half craft fashion shop boutique centered around Texas wine country culture. It'll spread into Arizona, California, Colorado, and we'd likely have some customers in the south. Not trying to be too big, more like known worldwide for our jeans, with a bit of regional refinement. I think people the world over will like the Garter Cowboy boots, but you have to come to a store to get a pair. They would be made to look nice with Chinos.
The ai pranounces shmAncy "schmauncy" its the funniest thing ever lol
Maybe add "Fred Perry" a 1930's British tennis player who marketed his polo shirt, and is still in production!!
jajajajajjaaaa you killed me!!🤣😂🤪🤪🤪 I have been preppy without knowing it....I was not born in USA. I love the preppy look.
make sure to add Smathers and Branson. they sell all the preppy accessories
They are about the only maker of needlepoint belts, it seems. Some very witty. I have one of Georgetown that is remarkably accurate to actual buildings.
The bracelet is also too much for me 😂😂
As we say in Massachusetts; I left my khakis in my car keys.
Very good video
It’s fine to have the escutcheon of your school on a blazer as long as it is in fact your school. Jeans are a recent compromise with the peasantry, but remain inadvisable. I don’t own any. A complete list of the rules can be found in the Preppy Handbook.
I think the look has evolved to certain types of jeans. I have seen the chino styled jeans and denim shirts.
Peasantry? Really? LOL. That’s very humble of you🙄. Jeans are so universal that they are no longer relegated to any class. I’m surprised anyone living in modern times doesn’t own any. After all, we’re living in the 21st century and social classes are blurred more than ever.
The Preppy Handbook was (and is) a satire not to be taken too seriously. I was around when that book came out and it was a good laugh. To be taken with a grain of salt, and not exalted like the Holy Bible (or whatever holy book one reads).
Anyone catch the black/gray footie sock peeking out of the slide tennis shoe, on the "recommended skirts" slide? I might agree with Istvan Cregui (below).
Dig the Ivy League style! Dig the New Breed.
One assured way of "looking" prep is to have grandparents and parents with high foreheads, straight hair, straight noses, straight teeth, typical WASP features. These refer to facial formations not sexuality. Excellent conversational skills, good taste, clean hair, a proper education, particularly including preparatory studies, clean hair, clean nails, and good taste in architecture, gardens, antiques, and the ubiquitous "correct" wardrobe. A love of horses, tennis, sailing vessels, and navy blue, belong in the prep stable. Stability itself is an inherent quality. Above all, and this is crucial, the loyal and undying companionship of a great dog. If you have no other resources, a tweed jacket will certify you and the dog at picture call. the gate
Love look 📹⚡️
You forgot the 3 Gs: Georgetown, Greenwich and Grosse Pointe!
Georgetown: Jesuit
Greenwich: Skull & Bones
Grosse Pointe: Masonry
Well, why not include Galm Beach, the Gamptons, and Gantucket. 🤣
1: Seersucker only in summer. 2: Corduroy pants, esp. bright colors. 3: Loafers: Classic Gucci horse-bit. Belgian. Stubbs & Wooten. 4: Belts: Grosgrain ribbon. Needlepoint. Alligator. Simple silver monogrammed Tiffany buckle. 5: No: Dockers. Hilfiger. Ever. (Graduate of a prep school speaking.)
what the negative on dockers?
@@peteroconnor6394 Look cheap. They don't hang well. Get Bill's Khakis instead.
@@jlasf I had a friend who visited US bring 2 pairs Bill's back, shipping abroad is exorbitant, sale items ordered were arbitrarily cancelled by Bill's customer service. I buy Cordings and Charles Tyrwhitt on sale, UK inflation incredible.
@@jlasfplease review your experience with which bright colors?
@@peteroconnor6394 When I lived on the East Coast, I had corduroys in bright green, Nantucket Red, and yellow. I live on the West Coast now and it doesn't really get cold enough for cords - and the haute-prep look isn't understood here. Peter Millar makes great cords - a bit softer than most.
Does someone realise the fact that this isn't just fashion and it is part of a lifestyle. Trying to copy this will probably make you broke or else you will look cheap af.
Don't forget Thomas Pink and Paul Smith for Men, and Talbot's and Ann Taylor for Women. Pringle Sweaters are essential for both genders, of course! I would add Ben Sherman as a Preppy Staple for guys also, it's edgier but only slightly so, lol.
Ben Sherman? I think not.
I'm surprised Talbot's wasn't on the list for women's clothing. Then again, it might just be for the older conservative set.
Talbot's is for the older woman or the woman looking for higher quality career clothing that is mostly traditional, yet still has that preppie undertone.
Younger preppie women generally go for the typical preppie mainstays: J Crew, Vineyard Vines, Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie and Fitch, etc.
Talbot's is more "tailored", in my opinion and not very "sporty" but it is a great brand. My wife loves their clothing.
@@halfnorfolk5310 Yes, you're absolutely on point!! They've always been a favorite of mine too, especially in the career world!! Classic taylored clothing (staples) that never goes out of style.
I am older and conservative and I shop at Talbots so you may be onto something 😉
@@mommabear5059 Talbot's is sexy! I love a well dressed, tailored woman! They're classy and timeless quality in a sea of "mall throwaway" trash!
It's about investing in well made clothing that will stand the test of time, not "fashion".
I'd rather the 🐊 on my polos.
Yes! They last forever. The website has a lot of things on sale. Have just stocked up on the slim-fit polos for half price!
I liberate him and flush him.
❤
👍👍
Hilarious.
I don’t think any guy would be caught dead wearing saddle shoes today
Güzel video
Is using the description “AF” about anything actually classy? 🤔
Good point
👍🏻👏🏻
Make sure your polos come with crocodile or impaled lamb....
Hackett
The elbow patches too much for me I’m not playing POLO 😅
No self-respecting preppy guy would be caught dead with a big, embroidered patch on a blazer pocket. Plus the fact that Ralph Laure, Polo, etc are copy cat prep style. The original polo type of shirt was created by La Coste with an alligator. It was created for function on the tennis court. Ditto Sperry top sliders. They are shoes to wear on a boat. And, yes, well worn jeans are fine, if you wear them with a white polo shirt and a navy blazer (with no emblems).
It is a crocodile not an alligator Rene LaCoste was called Le crocodile.
Most preppy guy’s don’t care about the brand label but the quality and the “fashion”
“no self respecting preppy guy” wtfff it’s just clothes dude,
It's top SIDERS... You're not one of us🤣
Anchor bracelet?? Wtf? Never seen one even at the yacht club
No mention of J. Press?
It was mentioned.
@@LarrySellsBatonRouge They mentioned J. Crew. 6:13
Shhh!
Now that Brooks button-downs have declined in quality, I recommend the ones from J. Press. Heavyweight and has pocket.
@@jlasf I have to special order them, my neck size is a bit larger than usual. So I wind up with a fuller body (special order resizes all dimensions proportionately). Then I have a tailor slim down the sides. A lot of work but still J Press OCBD is the only of the originals that is unchanged. They last almost literally forever.
Why no jeans jeans can be preppy
10 year olds:ISNT PREPPY SUPPOSED TO BE AESTHETIC😡😡😡

Hi🖐, I'm Emo and all I want to say is.... PREPS ARE DEMONS!!!! ehe, 🤪 bye👋.
funny and superficial, considering that any brand can be bought, but elegance and real taste is very very difficult to achieve, maintain and develope properly on time ;)
not sure if this is AI written or if you're ironic
😁 The world may never know…
Hermes
get rid of logos and nautical bracelet; i walk through Harvard yard and see plenty of blue jeans but few logos and no nautical bracelets; I have some chinos from J Press. I never see corduroy and don't see bright colored male pants around here. I think that your recommendations for women are good. Too bad the beauriful Harvard undergrad females don't dikkiq rgwn,
This used to be called Ivy style....I grew up like this so much has changed even the quality of the clothes...Ivy league today is woke and broke..........
I think this video is a parody piece.
Agreed! Preppies don't have to think about how to be preppie...they just are! It's how you grew up and what you would typically wear on a daily basis.
Dressing "preppie" should never turn someone into a caricature.
Right? A lot of the reccomendations here will make you look like a characiture of a Ralph Lauren model....
No the announcer is totally serious - believe it ! Even President John F. Kennedy followed these rules !
@@dmmchugh3714 if you have to try and be preppy you’re not preppy it’s something you’re born into no amount of rules and tips can make you a real preppy
What is this?me and my bsf is laughing at this bc of this f voice like this voice belt like rip off shrek when his sick
Hunting??? Rugby shirts and jeans were tired in the 70s! And NOT preppy per Mom. Don't care to be hunted= desperate= ew.
This is absolutely risible.
I live in Palm Springs. The last thing anyone thinks about here is clothes.
Lol, clothing is such a nuisance for you desert dwellers.
Güzel video
