    My Jet City 5LO doesn’t get quite that level of Overdrive “Hair”, but close enough when I dime both channels (as the SLO circuit is famous for its bleed between channels)
    I’ve since bought a Captor X and have chosen very similar cabs to yours, and am pretty happy with the results!

    Fantastic video! Lynch's tone is very elusive and slippery. Easy ( relatively mind you ) to mimic on the surface but to really "get" it is frustratingly difficult. Ive been playing for 30 plus years and this video helped me a lot. Thanks so much. Also thanks for the idea. Now I've gotta take one of my guitars out to the garage,strip the finish and torch that shit,lol. That guitar def has a "Wicked" look. Cheers

    Excellent Jay!
    You're sounding just like the Lynch Mob album throughout the video. I know that everyone is mostly interested in George's heavy overdriven rhythm guitar tones using the Soldano and Super Lead 100 heads into Marshall 4 X 12 cabs loaded with Celestions. I wanted to ask you if you might be able to elaborate on those clean tones that George layers under his heavy rhythm guitar parts. I have always found those clean tones to be the "magic" that gives that album it's sound. The shimmering clean tones really make the overall guitar soundscape a lot more dimensional and full. Would you be able to share any details such as:
    What pickups and pickup position/selection/combination is used for those clean tones typically?
    What amp and cab is George using for those clean tones? Or are they DI guitar straight into a Neve console?
    What effects is George using on those clean tones? It sounds like he's got some kind of shimmering chorus or maybe the Eventide H3000 microshift detune program? It also sounds like he might have delay on there and reverb? Perhaps delay from the TC 2290 and Reverb from the Lexicon PCM70? These are just my guesses based on what I am hearing on the album.
    What kind of EQ curve is applied to the clean guitar tones? They sound very very thin and bright, almost as if the bottom end has been completely removed, like high pass filtered at 300Hz or maybe even higher.
    If you have any information about George's clean tones, I would love to hear some detail on those!
    Thanks Jay. Awesome channel. Subscribed!

    • @jayguitar
      @jayguitar  2 года назад +1

      Really good Qs Bob about the cleans. I memory serves he was using a Tele for clean tones - beyond that I don't really know what he used for amps, effects. When I dial in a clean tone I usually plug into the clean channel of my custom SLO as it is super super clean and add some delay, reverb, maybe some chorus in Logic. I just dial it in by ear until it sounds good. Have an awesome day.

    • @BobGuido
      @BobGuido 2 года назад

      @@jayguitar Thanks Jay. You sound awesome and have mastered a lot of George's idiosyncrasies. I'm sure that George is quite flattered by how deep you've gone into exploring his personal alchemy. It would be really cool sometime to see you do a video breakdown of all of the rhythm guitar parts. The main SLO distortions ones for the song, as well as those clean ones that George layers throughout the verse, chorus, bridge and solo sections of the song "For A Million Years". I think that's some of George's most interesting playing/writing and his most signature artistically defining moment of his entire career. What George plays on "For A Million Years" through its various guitar parts and layers encapsulates George Lynch's personal artistic voice better than any other single piece of work he's done to my ears and I love everything he does, even his very latest work with KXM and Lynch Mob. His "Miles Away" solo and rhythm parts are another great defining moment filled with incredible emotion and his personality and personal touch.

    Like more videos like this Jay. I have a set of preamps I use in front of two stereo power amps. One is 6L6 Mesa and the other is EL34 Marshall. Speakers on the Marshall I really like are the Greenback G12M(20w) and Greenback G12H75.
    The Mesa is quite a bit harder to settle on speakers with Vintage 30, Creamback 65, Redback, and Texas Heat all being swapped in and out depending. I’m still searching for a sound I like, but will need another good 4x cabinet to load up two V30 and two CB65’s. That’s pretty much what I’ve settled on for the 6L6 sound.
    For me, I like both of the amps so I put the Mesa and Marshall in the mix with two hard pans and two 70/30. The preamps are what define the character the most, in my rig. So I have 7 optional preamps on a switcher system.
    I can see why you’re saying about the purple amp but those Greenbacks I mentioned earlier are just magic for Marshalls. They have a great sound.
    But your SLO amp sounds killer, I can see what you’re saying about it’s magic. It has bite and crushing sustain, great gain. It’s gnarly. We listen to your records when we drive and always amazed at how good you sounded all through those years, whatever amp you were playing so don’t put too much stock in a single sound. It’s more about Jay Parmar and how he’s feeling that day. With that in mind, all the best to you and yours. Healthy and happy, most important. 😊
