    Hey Collin! I forgot to mention that there is an INPUT trimmer inside the pedal to adjust the level so you can dial the boost out. Hope that helps!

    Colin, great video and comparison! Those are some awesome chorus pedals. Glad we were included!

    So basically you just need multiples of this same pedal to do different things. That is fine. It has a digital brain as a controller, however it does not mess with it's true analogue sound. And that is impressive, because the sound is impressive. Great work here. Thanks.

    Very helpful, I'm still excited to try the New Wave as a more versatile replacement for my stereo Supro Chorus. One thing re clipping the interface - highly recommend a Zoom F3/UAC-232 or other 32-bit capable recorder/interface. Basically unclippable.Saves a lot of headache setting levels, you can just boost or cut in post.

      That’s really cool actually. I haven’t ever looked at Zoom for recording interfaces. I’m hoping to upgrade my interface soon for more ins and outs. If they made one with more I would definitely consider that! I am currently leaning towards Apollo territory specifically for the Unison plugins. They’re just so dang expensive.

      @@i_like_toytles The Zoom UAC-432 will have 4 inputs but it's not out yet, should be by September. The Zoom F8n pro 2 has 8 inputs and can be used as a 32bit float multi-track interface or a field recorder, but costs $1k. Sound Devices MixPre II series (3, 6, or 8 inputs) are super nice but more expensive. Probably there are other offerings from other companies, we're on the cusp of 32bit-float taking over I think!

    Do you think leaving the pedal in on position but dry would prevent the volume change, or is that pointless since presets require setting the mix knob?

    • @i_like_toytles
      @i_like_toytles  Год назад +2

      That wouldn't really make sense to do. Yeah, it would be pointless because of the presets requiring the mix knob, but at the same time a high quality piece of audio gear shouldn't need a hack in order to run at unity gain, and in my opinion shouldn't need the user to fiddle with 6 different internal trim pots to find unity gain.

    Somebody compare new wave to Strymon Mobius. Perhaps my monitors sucks, some youtube demos sounded too thin for me.

    • @i_like_toytles
      @i_like_toytles  Год назад +1

      I have owned a Mobius as well as a Strymon Ola in the past. I can say for sure that the warmth you get from the analog chorus pedals is not fully replicated in digital ones. I think the voicing can be replicated, but there is a cool transient thing that happens with an analog chorus that just doesn't come through with DSP. And yeah, this Vox-style amp model I used for this demo is not setup to sounds super full, I have it set up to sit in a mix and it doesn't sounds very big on its own.

      @@i_like_toytles yes i had mobius and synesthesia too. They all sound amazing. Im curious about the headroom. Compare to the two.

    You can adjust the input, mod level, and output level on trim pots internally.

    • @i_like_toytles
      @i_like_toytles  Год назад +1

      I did find that out after reaching out to Jackson. Although I have yet to receive any instruction on which trim pots do what and that information is nowhere in the literature on the pedal. Nonetheless frustrating that it is set to a drastically odd position out of the box, and even more frustrating if I need to pop the pedal open to adjust from single coils to humbuckers.

    • @jasonthompson5140
      @jasonthompson5140 Год назад

      @@i_like_toytles yes. I understand your frustration. I was most surprised at the volume jump when engaged.
      I don’t think they really want us tweaking it inside, but for me it was necessary. You as well.
      The top 2 blue pots are the inputs L and R.
      Top 2 silver ones are output L and R.
      2 stacked one in the middle are wet modulation. Top L, bottom R.
      Bottom trims are for the delay chips. I would highly recommend you don’t mess with those.
      Hope this helps. It’s an amazing sounding pedal with a lot of versatility. Hopefully you can get it adjusted to your liking.

    • @i_like_toytles
      @i_like_toytles  Год назад +1

      @@jasonthompson5140 Yeah, I've had my fair share of pedals with internal trimmers that is an optional thing for anyone who wanted to do some extra tweaking, but it was also advertised in the manual that it was in there, unlike the New Wave. I have owned chorus pedals from Earthquaker, Boss, Chase Bliss, MXR, JHS, Walrus, Keeley, and Strymon. Half of those pedals had volume controls and the ones that didn't never had a volume jump that was more than just EQ or transient shifts.

    • @jasonthompson5140
      @jasonthompson5140 Год назад +1

      @@i_like_toytles no doubt it’s a pain and should be in the manual.
      And I REALLY would rather have had a level adjustment on the front of the pedal.
      I bet there will be a bunch of people that return the pedal for the volume jump, not knowing there is an internal adjustment. I almost did.

    @uwedasler425 Год назад +3

    Many thanks for that - I was intending to buy this, now glad I did not. Mix setting not being stored in presets is a huge failure, and that volume jump thing is simply unacceptable. It would not be acceptable at half the price.

    • @i_like_toytles
      @i_like_toytles  Год назад +1

      Glad to have helped your decision. I wanted to be as objective as possible in the video. My hope is that there is a solution to the volume jump, wether it be a firmware update or something. This is a pedal that is so close to being incredible but for me slamming the front end of my amp with 4-5 decibels of volume when trying to get a clean chorus sound is just not cutting it.

    • @Dito.Gancini
      @Dito.Gancini Год назад

      That doesn’t seem normal. Mine does not do that. Are you using clean power at 18volts? If so I would contact Jackson. Great playing dude. Loved that Julia color.

    • @i_like_toytles
      @i_like_toytles  Год назад

      @@Dito.Gancini Thanks, man. I have been in contact with them today and they let me know that there is an internal trimmer that can adjust the output level. I don't feel like it should be set up the way mine is from the factory so maybe they set it wrong? Idk, but knowing that I can adjust it is helpful, although if I would need to adjust it from one guitar to the next that would be really inconvenient. But yeah I'm using 18v from Strymon power supplies so I don't think it is a power issue.

    • @jasonthompson5140
      @jasonthompson5140 Год назад +1

      @@i_like_toytles another thing I will tell you is that the Zuma seems to be the only power supply that they have tested which gives them any issues.
      One 18v DC output on a Zuma will cause issues. The reason is it’s only 250ma when switched to 18v.
      The New Wave has an in rush of nearly 1000ma and can make the Zuma freak out because it thinks there’s an issue.
      You can always make or buy a current doubler cable, but it won’t be the best thing because that will still only be 500ma.
      Need to make or buy a voltage doubler cable and use two 9v outs. That will give you 18v at 1000ma and you won’t have any power issues with the New Wave.
      Something similar was going on with the Keeley Eccos before they changed some components.
      Hope this helps.

    • @i_like_toytles
      @i_like_toytles  Год назад

      @@jasonthompson5140 Yes I have been using a voltage doubler cable from two 500mA outputs on an Ojai because the pedal needs 300mA. In fact, something I didn't include in the video is the fact that the pedal has been malfunctioning half of the time I am powering up. It also freezes up when trying to save presets. I have talked to Jackson about it and they gave me the same run down about not using the Strymon's single 18v outputs and needing using a voltage doubler, to which I replied I was already doing it correctly.

    The sound of this New Wave pedal is WIMPY, just impotent... this is no ROCK MUSIC pedal. For example, The Police band woul never use it.

    • @i_like_toytles
      @i_like_toytles  8 месяцев назад

      I agree. I think taking into consideration the artist who worked on this pedal with Jackson the pedal makes a lot of sense. If you listen to Mark's music you can see where this pedal's strengths are. But I fully agree, it is almost too hi-fi sounding and lacks all of that extra harmonic content that old-school chorus and flangers have.
