Every time I get a new doctor to prescribe Lantus, they default to the PEN, even though I've plainly stated that the ampule and syringe are my preference. It happened again recently, and delivery was made before I could correct the error. But, I have since learned that it is entirely possible to fill a syringe from the Pen.
I have been on lantus for 7 years, and it has worked very well. My doctor switched me from levimir after it stopped working for me.
I just got put on lantus today and my personal opinion lantus pins are night and day different than their grandparent which is the vile of insulin I'm not saying the vial don't work but the PIN is more versatile which is great and it is easier to be accurate with your dial a number versus the old school hope and pray that I got it right

My mother was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes 2 years ago, initially was on medications. Then earlier this year she felt ill and diagnosed with pneumonia with very high sugar levels. The emergency Dr. prescribed her Lantus 16 units + JENTIN MET every night. Her weight is 60kg. As per my research the recommended dosage is 0.2 units per kg. That means 12 units would be fine for her. Can you please suggest the right dosage as per weight? She is also taking B.P. medicine (COVAM) and Rovista (5mg) for the Cholestrol.

I have 3 siblings who were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes since childhood. All the 3 patients have been using Medtronic Minimed insulin pump for the past 3 years, I want to know if taking Lantus separately at bed time is necessary for them.

I've considered fasting for control also.
Same for me i suffered with crumps a lot and they where attacking me every where even in my tongue . But once i watched a healthy program on tv about health and a doctor had mentioned how many people suffer with crumps . And this is happening of bad diet and also water filtration as well , the only way to get rid of cramps take magnesium vitamins . That is because metformin works by getting rid suppose from carbohydrates but they brush out more vitamins with them . My doctor also included vitamin B complex for men because there also for woman as well . Good luck

My son is 6 and has been taking lantus since he was 4. A paper I received today with his insulin, said it was for kids 6 and up. Why would the docto prescribe that for him? I also seen it says it not known if it's safe and effective.

I take humalog in the am before meals , and Lantas before bed and my blood sugar was 300 at night .. this is my first day taking it
maybe you are eating too many carbs, like bread ,fries or rice, i have a continous glucose monitor and you will be surprised how certain foods will raise your blood sugar. watch your diet , remenber diet is every thing , and some exercise, no sodas or juices . and you will see a big difference.

I cant understand this type of blood measurements you are mentioning i am not familiar with these . All I know for example 5.6 or 7 or 8 , these are the blood sugar method we use with digital tests strips meter otherwise it is chinese for me . Thanks

Dear sir. What does someone do if their pen is jammed? My dial will no longer move. The good news is I have more stored away but lets say I only have that one pen. Do they jam when they become empty? It sort of looks empty but last month I had another one jammed and It was still half full so I don't know then. I like getting the full use so my Dr. doesn't think I'm abusing the prescription. I don't even see any benefit to that anyhow lol.

Lantus is slow working insuline that’s why you use it once a day this means it works 24 hours. I see you confuse lantus with fast working insulin that’s what you use before food. You should calculate how many carbohydrates you consume then you know how much fast working insulin you need.

Doctor put me on 5 units of Lantus with ozempic at bedtime. I work nights 6 on 3 off. After my 6th day, I stay up (usually) and sleep that night. Do I take it at the same time on my days off or at the night 12 hrs later. Doctor and pharmacy seem to be stumped. Thanks

My pen is the same brand name Lantus Solostar but the design is different and inside the pen is a white column plastic screw that most likely is the whole length of the pen.
I did not realize the plastic screw column slowly moves through the pen with each use. I couldn't figure out why the dial stops working but it's depends on how many doses you use. But I'm just baffled that my Dr. never demonstrated fully how to use it. My brother and I watched videos. But no one explained the screw column but oh well.

This is a good video Doc but I have a quick question. I normally inject 33 units of lantus solostar in the morning plus novorapid depending on what I eat; today morning I forgot and injected twice lantus solostar (meaning I injected 66 units). Will that cause any significant changes through the day?

I'm pregnant and I got gestational diabetes.. my fasting numbers reached 130 and the after meals would reqch 200, 219 and onumbers. My physicist prescribed 10 units of Lantus Solostar and if the fasting number was above 110 I should add 2 extra units. I tried a diet befoee using the lantus but it didn't work well every day. My question is this.. is it possible that I stop the lantus after delivering the baby?
