  • De Atramentis Document Ink Fuchsia is a vibrant pink fountain pen ink that is well behaved and looks cool in your pen. Not only that, it's an extremely water resistant fountain pen ink. It's basically bulletproof. And it being document ink means that it is a good archival fountain pen ink that will last as long as your writing.

The main appeal of this ink isn’t the pink color per se, it’s that it acts as the magenta in a CMYK color space. (DeAtrementis document turquoise is the cyan). So you can buy those 4 inks (and the dilution solution) and mix ANY other color in existence.

Very cool. I'd definitely love to try mixing my own colors.

Thanks for the video! I don’t tend to use pink ink, but my daughter loves it. My favorite DeAtramentis inks are Mint Turquoise, which has nice shading, and Beethoven, which is a brown that has a hint of purple.

I came about your video looking for a pink ink! I bought some days ago a Japanese FP based on the Sakura flowers, therefore, pink! And then you come in talking about DA Fuschia and I remembered I have a bottle in one of the drawers!! So thank you for reminding me, it matches perfectly with the pen! Loved the video, good information for all of us. My favorite DA inks are Turquoise, White, Brown and now Fuschia!!

It's been awhile now, but for months I wrote with DA Document Fuchsia with a bit of Document Black mixed in.

I got a surprise sample of this from Goulet Pens. Was not expecting to like it as much as I did. Definitely going to buy a bottle

It's definitely a fun fountain pen ink! My wife tried it recently in her pen, and she really enjoyed it.

Hey, I love your videos. I really appreciate that you focus on a lot of elements that most other people with fountain pen channels ignore -- like how well pens hold up over time. It's a nice respite from what sometimes feels like constant consumerism and accumulation, even though I like those channels, too. I also can't wait to check out that book -- I love books set in coastal and maritime environments.
My favorite De Atramentis ink (and second favorite ink overall) is Aubergine, which is a rich, dark purple that can look black when not next to black ink, especially with a broad nib. But I think the pop of color gives it more intensity than plain black ink. It is NOT a document ink, nor listed as water resistant, however, it is very water resistant, though not water proof. You can find videos and pictures online of it exposed to water -- the purple lifts and smears, but a clearly readable pale black or green line remains. It behaves well as far as flow, but it is a firehose of a wet ink and can bleed through on some, but not all, cheap paper. It can also feather badly on cheap paper, but that's still not 100% and absorbent paper sucks up enough that it leaves a much more noticeably purple, rich vibrant shade on the page. It does stain. You can mostly get it out of a pen with pen flush, but it takes work, and I'd use an easily replaceable pen in case you don't like it -- or something that's not transparent at all. If you get it on you, be prepared to be purple for a while -- it's harder to wash off skin than any other ink I've tried, including Platinum Carbon Black.
I also like De Atramentis Document Red, which is bright, vibrant, and well-behaved, though to my eyes it can look more pink than red. Document Red Gray was well-behaved, but I didn't like the color -- it was a brownish grey and not red at all. Black-Red was darker than what I was looking for -- it was almost black, and I thought Sailor Manyo looked similar and behaved better. Document Dark Red did not behave for me *at all* -- there was lots of skipping, railroading, ink starvation, and just generally more nuisance than I feel like dealing with when I'm writing. Ultimately, I went with Platinum Cassis Black as my main waterproof red ink, though I'll be buying a bottle of regular Document Red, too.
Since you like Purple, you may like De Atramentis Document Violet, which I wanted to love, since I love purple and prefer waterproof and UV resistant inks, but I didn't like it. It was a little drier than I prefer my ink, but it behaved very well. It was very hard to clean out of a pen -- not the barrel, but the smaller plastic areas -- like those on the section near the nib in the Ecos. But the real reason I just couldn't do it is because it dries a bright, but very grayish purple that was really hard on my eyes to read back. Callifolio Violet is a similar shade without the same degree of gray tone. The latter isn't waterproof, but it has relatively good water resistance for something that isn't advertised as such.
For reference, I tested the purple inks in Ecos with broad nibs (one of which I now keep inked up with Aubergine permanently) and the reds in a 580 AL with a broad nib.

Thank you for this detailed list of inks! You've given me some good homework! Haha And yeah, as much as I love the fountain pen hobbie, I hate the consumerism part of it. I actually have some cool stuff in the works for my channel that will allow me to give back in ways that can hopefully counteract some of the negative effects of consumerism.

    We need moar pigment inks!!!
I wonder if sheening pigments are possible? I am sad about lack of shading too
Also had no idea you can mix! AWESOME considering there's not many ;)
I wanna mix dye inks with this just to see what happens. In a dip pen maybe? Don't have any dip pens tho no
Also I'm extremely obsessive as a person.
I literally had horrible nightmares about fountain pens a few nights ago... Lol.

I am just starting to explore these inks. I want to try a bit of mixing and adding some of the thinning agent available ( which keeps it waterproof compared to water) The Australian watercolour artist Jane Blundell has a blog post showing a lot of the possible mixes you can achieve. I hope you show some more of your own explorations with these inks🤞🙂

Huh, in other reviews it doesn't shade whatsoever and looks like a marker.
Tho this is still not much sadly :s
I wish you reviewed the purple too!
Oh also i spotted my old comment lol, must've seen this before.

It might depend on the batch of ink, the pen, paper, the video quality and lighting. Who knows!

Cool color ink. How would you compare it with Yama-Budo? Are they similar?

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  2 года назад +1

That's a great question. To me, Yama-Budo is darker and more prone to shading. It has some of the nuance that I feel like this fuchsia lacks. Keep in mind though that I was using both inks in different pens, and it's been a while since I've used Yama-Budo.

Nice color, however, nothing beats yama budo in this color. 😁

I'm inclined to agree. But if you want permanent pink, this ink might be hard to beat.

@@DowntheBreatherHole valid! However, I do not prefer this color in parmanent. Mostly, black and blue blacks. 😊

Yama Budo is way darker almost purple.
