Got all my wood, now I just need to get a table saw, wood planar, pocket hole rig and a set of drill bits 😭😭
Mmao
How did it go? I'm getting ready to start building mine.
YOU FORGOT BELT SANDER, 400,000 DOLLAR HOUSE WITH GARAGE TO DO THIS IN
yeah a little more than $100
@@1littlelee a little lol???
2019: This is $101.76 of material. This is 25 2x4s and 2 4x4s.
2021: This is $101.76 of material. This is a single 2x4.
I was looking for this particular comment! Lol 😁 All of my diy projects currently on hold. 😔 🤷🏻♀️
@@Veronica_Prado I was looking for this comment too hahahaha
2022: This is $101.76 of material. This is a single 2x2 firring strip 12 inches long.
I walked out of Home Depot with a splinter in my thumb. I was arrested for larceny over $500
$118.72 in 2024. But he didn’t factor in the plywood shelf…
I just finished making your workbench & it looks great. I watched your video about 10-20 times, bought Planer, pipe clamps, Armor Auto Jig, etc. I'm very happy with the table & excited to get my garage wood shop up & running. I just need to attach the top to the legs (& I paused the video at 7:40 to see the Armor Auto Jig holes on the long end of the side stretchers). Thanks again for the video. VERY helpful. And fun project to do.
Chris so glad you built it! If you take any pictures I’d love for you to post it on my Facebook page!
Great build, I loved that your kids watched on in total awe of their dad😊 As for the smart arses that are jealous of your workshop, if they can’t think of an alternative means of achieving the desired outcome they probably shouldn’t be left alone with tools. I have some tools but not a thicknesser, however, I know I can come up with an alternative method that will yield the desired result. A great project and one I will be considering for my secondary layout bench as it isn’t too expensive and will be fun to build.
Oh my goodness, the way your son is looking at you when the video starts. So precious.
katiebikes thank you!
I really enjoy and learned watching your video. Im planning to build a small woodworking table(48"×24") with scrap.
I only have a electric sander to make it flat.
But watching your video motivate me to do it.
Virtual high five fr getting your kid in the shop with you! Good job Dad!
Great video, how did you attach the top to the legs? Angle brackets, or pocket holes/screws?
This bench is perfect for my needs. I bought the wood and just started building it! Only thing I don't have is a dado stack for my cheapo table saw. I'm also going to add workbench casters so I can move it. Thanks for sharing this build!
Although the title says $100 and 4 hours to build, I could not match that cost and timing. The materials cost me $190 (NJ) and I have 14 hours of time so far. I had to glue the top in 3 sections to fit through my small planar, so that added xtra time. And, I'm a newbie woodworker so added time for my inexperience. It's coming out fantastic and the base is almost finished and I'm ready to glue up the 3-sections of the top! Regardless of time and cost, I'm enjoying the build and very happy with the bench so far!
@@IvanBoden Great idea with the casters. I always recommend making your tools mobile in your workshop as much as possible!
Build a $100 workbench. Step 1, buy $300 worth of clamps. Step 2, buy a $500 planer...
Well, we found the Debbie Downer
@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 heh, no, i should have added a winky face. ;-)
For those of us not as well equipped, do you think it would work to:
1) use a hand planer AFTER gluing the surface together?
2) use tiedown straps to hold it together
@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 Actually, he does have a good point. I went into this video with great interest, wanting to know how to build such a sturdy workbench as cheaply as you said.
Then I saw the planer. "Oh.... well, guess I'll have to try something else since I don't have a planer."
Someone else mentioned using two pieces of 3/4" plywood. That's how I'd do it till I can invest in a planer :-)
@@toddz8579 100% right. If you have all that equipment and a dedicated shop, you dont need to watch a youtube video on how to build a bench. This was targeted towards your everyday DIY guy, going by the click bait title..
Maybe you could use a sander and sand down the table smooth instead but IDK.
I love the humility factor, its a big boy's game and you need a big toys. This is not DIY.
Nice bench! I'll have to keep this one in mind. Regarding the vice (note: this was on a steel bench) someone modified a trailer hitch and mounted the vice to the part of the hitch that would have the ball. This made the vice more versatile and gave him the ability to move it off the bench so it wasn't always in the way. Can't remember the name of the channel but the video had to do with garage organization.
I want to make this so bad. Wish I had all the equipment lol. This is a wonderful project.
Shared with 15,000 on Facebook. Great quality, money saving tool/
I see people all the time critical of this kind of video because they don't have all the pro tools. If you want a cheap workbench, just use the tools you already have. For example, cut the rounded edges off the 2x4s with a circular saw and a straight edge, that way when you glue them together the surface will be as near flat as you can get it, and you can finish it off with a hand plane. Great video, thanks!
Great job man ! what a beautiful work bench that will last forever !
Thanks!
Pretty good seeing an Ale-8 make an appearance during the shoot.
I am addicted for sure!
It is a great workbench, one I would love to have for myself. However, I don’t have a planer, so I can’t build a top like that. A lot of folks don’t. I just put 2 pieces of 3/4” plywood for my top.
That's definitely a good option!
@Nick White or you could use a hand plane. Although getting optimal results from a hand plane is a bit of a trick itself.
For $100 , before 100 years
In 4 hours, after 40 work.
Ridiculous, only the glue won't dry in 10 hours.
A funny man
You realize you don’t have to sit there and watch the glue dry, don’t you? I even said in the video that I did the glue up while I was working on another project. I had 4 hours of work total
Great video, thank you. How did you attach the top to the frame? I couldn't figure that one out.
Awesome video. I can't wait to build my $100 work bench but I just need to spend a couple thousand in tools to make that happen.
thousands in tools isn't necessary, but it sure makes the build a lot easier, lol
Awesome craftsmanship..!
Great bench. One small suggestion. Let you kids get their hands dirty, they were standing their looking eager to help. Again, I love the video, love the bench.
Orlando Castillo if you watch any of my videos you will see my kids working all the time. The worked a lot on this project, just not in the footage for this clip.
Great job man!!! I’m gonna build it👍🏻
8:16 What a precious moment hahaha “Kenzie look”
You have earned yourself a subscriber Sir. Great job.
You're a good man and built a cool product yourself, waiting on new videos from you.
Great video thanks for sharing. How did you attach the top to the frame. I assumed it was pocket holes but thought I’d ask.
Yup, pocket holes
i need a planer. turned out great man ! very nice looking table.
How did you attach the bench to the base.
Great job love the family projects
Little tears appearing in my eyes when I hear you get al that wood for 100 USD. Here in Belgium, when I buy that much wood, it would probably be closer to 500 USD.
Is the top just place like dat without any joints or screw?
Thanks!
Hi this is superb - can I ask if you could build kitchen carcasses using this method as opposed to lots of smaller units found on U tube as I think they would be so much stronger - great job v useful

Very informative! Thank You.
thanks for watching!
I love these videos "Build a bench for only $100 of wood and $5000 of equipment" haha
lmfao man you said it!
Only think I dislike about these “cheap” workbench videos is they all use professional shops with a plethora of equipment. FYI even a 4-6 ft clamp is not in most home shops. Most people only have a miter saw and basic hand tools. Maybe a few power tools but that’s about it.
the first thing I did was explain ways to build this without clamps. Every thing I did can be done with a circular saw and drill, and a router would make it easier. All of these are basic handheld power tools. Having Clamps, a tablesaw, planer etc aren't required to build something like this, it just makes it easier. I've spent 20+ years and every extra dime I could into building my shop, so I'm going to use it.
I like your workbench and would like to build one. Can I buy the plan?
Who knows the little guy might be the next Lynn Sweet! :)
Chad Atha I actually studied under Lynn years ago.
SHAWИEE HILLS WORKSHOP I know I was in the same classes lol. That's when you were just getting your channel started with the Kermit stand and the entertainment center with the dovetail video. Edit : keruig I don't know how to spell it but not Kermit
Chad Atha wow! Can’t believe you’ve watched all these years!! I still haven’t finished the piece of furniture I started in that class
So if I dont have a wood planer what can I do?
What stain did you use for the top?
Hi, loved the video, going to try get started on my own one this week and I’ll be following this video. What clamps are they? I’ve looked for TBar / Sash clamps but can’t find any as deep as yours
Jorgensen cabinet master parrallel clamps, you can pick them up on Amazon for example. You also don't have to have clamps. Good luck with your build!
How’d you attach the top? Pocket holes?
How is the top screwed?
Is there a reason you used a row of 2x4s instead of 4x4s, 4x6s or 4x8s? I'm new to this.
David S. Because they are cheap and easy to get, but all of those you mentioned would be great!
I just wanna make this clear to any other beginners that are starting with just a saw, hammer, and chisel: go watch a different video.
LOVE IT!!
THANKS!
give your self more room at the end! think about it
How did u attach the top to the legs? I guess I missed it. I watched a few times but didn't catch it.
paul minga I only spoke about it, i didn’t show it. I used 4 pocket hole screws through the side stretchers into the top
@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 Thanks I watched the video more time than i would like to admit and still missed it. Thanks
Shoulda read this before I commented!!! Gonna make one similar for my garage
@@JasonWorrix I think it is the best bang for your buck workbench
Wish I could do that
I'm sure you could!
probably a bit overkill 3½ inch is really thick. most of the people watching could get off fine using ¾ inch plywood for the table top.
I’m not a fan of 3/4” tops. When you hammer on them everything on the top bounces
@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 point taking. that is very true! great video by the way wasn't expecting a quick response. what you you recommend for a shed workbench? im mostly working on saws, small engines. sometimes 4 wheelers. 2x4 are really expensive here . id like to know your input!
JeepWoodsFun for me this type of top is the perfect option for small engine work, without knowing your area and what wood is less expensive it’s hard for me to say. I thought 2x4 studs were cheap everywhere, didn’t realize the price varied that much. Where are you located?
@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 nevermind i just talked to my local supplier. price are around 3,50-4.50$ for a 2"×4"×8'. the last time i checked was in the covid pandemic. i believe price were higher back then! i might go ahead and copy your exact design. it would only cost 125$ + taxes in studs for doing your exact bench.
How much the clue and machines cost?
What were the final dimensions?
it is around 24" deep and just under 8' long
I love the way your son just stood all quite watching his dad. I can tell he looks up to you. What a blessing. Nice to include the Kids as you did. Nice workbench also.
Thanks for watching and the nice words! I truly enjoy having my children in the shop with me and make it a priority to try and involve/teach them.
Was also wondering how to get the kids to be so still.
John Doe quite quiet 😉
@@SteveHiemstraAKAspeg It's a most critical quality control behind his back!!! They don't need to say something, their dad is deadly sweating by doing the things right! ;-) 8:37
Greetz from Schwiiz to You Steve, ... Robert
Not so easy without a professional wood shop.
You do the whole thing with a hand saw, chisels, and a hand plane as well, it will just take a lot longer.
Doug Roth but Doug, what if i have a bad back and arthritis in my hands and i don’t have a way to get the lumber home or the money to buy it and there aren’t any straight 2x4’s at my local home depot and ive never woodworked before and...
Hahahahaha that freakin killed me!!
Nick White nah...i have a whole shop full of tools, i was just trolling because Every one of these videos where guys are building laminated wood tops benches someone makes the comment about not being able to do it without $4,000,000 of tools.
@@tywebbgolfenthusiast8950 Nobody gives a fuck what tools you have you ignorant bollocks ..
Hey maybe I missed it but I watched twice and still don't know how you attached the top to the legs
Yeah, I spoke about it at 6:46 but several people have asked the same question so I guess I should have shown it, lol. Sorry.
SHAWИEE HILLS WORKSHOP - yes, showing how you attached top to the leg base would have been helpful. Good idea on the leveling leg attachments.
Duct tape
SHAWИEE HILLS WORKSHOP I watched the 6:46 section a couple of times, but I still didn’t hear how you attached the legs to the top. Please explain.
TexFlix pocket holes in the side stretchers to join the top to the side stretchers
Absolutely great...unfortunately I don't have a workshop with thousands of dollars in equipment like you have.
That's my issue with many of these woodworking RUclipsrs. I feel like telling them, "Guys, 95% of your viewers don't have that stuff and have neither the money nor the space for it."
Apparently I missed the part about how you attached the top to the base. Was that where the pocket screws came in?
I'm searching the comment section for clues myself
@@chickenbonelives Yes he replied to the other comment, he used pocketholes to connect the top to the frame
This is a great tutorial - thank your for posting it. However you might want to change the title to: How to Build a $100 Workbench in 4 Hours if you have a nice shop and thousands of dollars in power tools!"
spot on my friend spot on
What's the point of these silly comments? If you don't have a shop space and tools to do projects what do you even need the work bench for? You can build this with much less tools than he uses, it just won't be as nice.
$100 of wood, $10k worth of tools
Yeah. Uploader is a click-bait douche
I built a work bench similar to this 30 years ago. Had a bunch of junk 2x4 used lumber that I used. One suggestion would be to put 1/4" plywood on top of the 2x4 top. That way when it gets in bad shape just remove the top 1/4" and put a new piece on and you have a new top!!
love it
You need a work bench to make a work bench! 😱
my workbench is either the floor or 2 sawhorses with a plywood top
My first thought exactly!
That's exactly my problem! Using sawhorses for now. Plus I need about a dozen more clamps! But I'll get there
Ratchet straps work great for clamps too
The real lesson to be learned here is that dad is spending time with his kids and teaching them how to build stuff with their own hands. Good job dad!
June 2021: How to build an $800 Workbench
Awesome build. Is the top free floating or did you secure it?
Also interested in the answer to this... I assume it's free floating since you were so specific about every other part of the build.
To see your kids taking such a interest was amazing God bless lol good job on the bench too
Kevin Perez thank you for the kind words
10:35 I am in the process of making my bench and yours is the inspiration behind it. How did you attach the legs to the bench top? Thanks
I don't see how you secured the top to the base
You missed some parts. You never showed how you secured the top with the legs. You just mounted the top and no indication of securing the top part.
Although I didn’t show it. At 6:47 I said that I was going to use pocket hole jig to cut pockets in the stretcher to join the top
Very nice bench here, but how did you join the top to the feet? If it was there I missed it totally 😁
How did you connect the top to the base? Thanks. 👍🏽🙂
Hi from Australia... Great video mate...
Your kid is the spitting image of you (Dad)
I can see you guys have a great relationship.
I'm kinda jealous... Can you be my Dad too...lol..
Lol I like how he sanded it my bench is made out of scrap partical board
Nice workbench I want to build this ..... wat are the dimension of the top slap? (1 guess approx. 30 x 80 inch)
I am not at my shop right now and it's been a long time since I built it so I can't remember the dimensions, but I am sure its between 25-30 x 72-80 ish
I'm a teacher. Your kids were just standing around. It looked like they wanted to help. Next time, get them more involved! Great video and bench!!!😊👍
How did you attach/ join the legs to the top main table /piece?
I know someone already mentioned this but can't help but to comment on it as well. I really appreciate that your kids are able to get involved with what you were building and helping Dad. They obviously enjoy being with you and helping instead of playing video games. Hats off to you for including your kids and teaching them how to work with their hands and building things. We need a lot more of that!
How did you attached the top to the leg frame?
i might watch How to Build a Lamborgini in 3 hours after this.
If only it were that easy 😭
What did you apply to the top of the bench? I am planning on building one myself, and I am looking for information on materials to protect the bench as much as I can. Thanks.
I also have this question.
Dude, a very nice video was almost ruined by the mind-numbing background music. I had to turn down the volume but that caused me to miss a lot of your instructions. Good visuals and overall nice project.
It isn't that bad... It's not distracting to me.
Your first table?
By pass the planer, bypass the chop saw, bypass the table saw.
Start like we all did. Hand saw, circular saw, hammer and nails.
Quit with the criticisms!
Old school and common sense.
Man you got a nice shop. Do you have a video on the tool cabinet in the background? Also are the planer blades factory or did you get the helix head? I'm working on purchasing that same model and was curious how it was. I heard the shelix was the way to go if you can swing it.
Unfortunately I built the tool cabinet years before I ever thought about videoing projects. As for the planer, I have the standard head in it and love it compared to previous planers I have owned, but I can imagine that the shelix is even that much better!
It's good to see clickbait titles have even infested the woodworking community. $100 WORKBENCH!!!...........................plus $500-$1000 in tools/machines.
Man I watched your video Dec. 11, 2021 but your video was dated Nov. 1, 2019 it was 2 years and more. By the way your Project Table is AWESOME. How is it ( Table ) for now ?
Great build! Did I miss a step? How is the slab bench top attached to the legs? I saw two guys carry it to the legs, and next thing was lacquering it.
I mentioned that I was connecting it with pocket holes through the stretchers when I was drilling the pocket holes, but did not show it.
Yes, if you pause the video at 7:40 you'll see the 2 holes in the long end of the side stretchers. I think he made those holes with the Armor Auto Jig, just as he'd done on the short ends of those 2x4. Also, I had a big container of 2" square head floor screws that worked perfectly for those Armor pocket holes
And how did you attach the table top to the legs?
I thought about this kind of top, but opted to lay the 2x4s flat and used 3/4" plywood over them. I don't yet have a planer.
I am looking to build a workbench too, but am just starting out so don't have a planer either. Can you let me know how this approach negates the use of the planer?
The flat 2x4s make a firm base and the plywood make a flat surface also helps to stiffen the entire top. I think it's just as sturdy as 2x4s and easier to build.
@@Fbarts 2x4s standing up and glued together is about as stiff as wood is going to get. Being as PVA wood glue is stronger than wood itself is.
How did you mount the top? I cant find it!
I hope you mounted the vise on the corner for full 90 degrees rotation, if you didn't you will be sorry, Don't ask how I know, trust me on this one
still haven't mounted it, lol

Yes please!
I watched the end of your video twice closely. To see how you fastened the top you the legs. I didn't see it. Can you briefly tell us how that was done?
I spoke about it around 6:45. I used pocket hole screws from the stretcher into the top
