Hi everyone! Just a friendly reminder, using his notch method, DONT WEAR GLOVES AROUND POWER TOOLS! Lol!
First, I want to say this is an AWESOME build and one I was excited to start! I went out, got the supplies, unloaded the wood, and got right to work. I unfortunately forgot one very important thing, which was to take off my gloves! The first board I cut into on my table saw rolled forward, flung itself behind me, rolled my gripper, and the saw blade grabbed my glove and almost amputated my pinky and ring finger.
I ended up with about 20 to 30 stitches. That being said, it took me about a month longer to build the work bench, but it still came out awesome!
Now that I am done, I am going to make a sign for my ripped up glove. Any ideas? I was thinking something along the lines of "no gloves, no nubs." Im open to better suggestions. Lol
A huge thank you to the gentleman who took the time to make this video!

The original comment says 1x8s for the top but I think it should be 2x8 but there are a lot of cross pieces so if one wanted to top it with 1x8 I suppose one could but most people want a heavy duty work bench with a 2x top if using dimensional lumber.
The lower shelf which I wasn't referring to can be thinner, like 1x or 3/4" and the cleats the shelf boards rest on can be 1x1 or 2x2, either way, if you have the right screws or nails...

Dude, great bench! EXACTLY the build type I was looking for! I just had the Amish build me a new 40x30 pole barn shop/garage and was looking for the perfect bench for my area that I could build with just my chop, table, and circular saw. I am in the middle of this build now and just a few more steps until completion (hard to dedicate a whole day on this with a two year old rowdy boy). With lumber prices still high, I had enough 6x6 posts that were scrap from the barn build to use for my legs. I work in a medical receiving warehouse and using some perfect 3/4" rough cut planks, 1x1's and 2x4's from a crate that some equipment came in for my bottom shelving. All in all, I'll probably only spend about $60 on lumber (I'm using 2 layers of sanded 3/4 plywood for the top) to finish this up!
Can't thank you enough for making this video! Cheers!

I like the idea of using lag bolts to hold the frame together and leave the bottom shelf boards free floating, means if I need to move the bench (as in a new home) I can just disassemble the whole thing into the two frames, and I would only have to unscrew the top boards, unless you went an extra step to flush fit them on top like you did the bottom boards. Would make moving it a smaller more compact job in a trailer.

Watched so many workbench videos and decided to go with this since it has the 4x4 legs. Debating using plywood over the deckboards for the bottom shelf. Total cost Sept 2021 in Philly area is ~$240 as is. Thanks for the great build

I made this! I actually made it! With my two hands! I built it from the floor of my garage up and it’s standing and sturdy! It’s not pretty but I made it!!! Thanks for the video I learned a lot.

Couldn't agree with you more about the furniture some people build for their garage rather than a workbench, pretty but overbuilt for my needs. Sweet workbench! The one I built is similar but I included locking casters to move around the garage.

Am going to attempt to build this however there was no mention of how many deck boards would be needed nor the length to cut to fit, other than that will be able to figure the rest out. I also went thru multiple onsite potentials and yours wins the prize😊

Thanks very much for the great design. As stated, it was easy to build and completed in one day. The joints make for a rock solid, sturdy bench. The only modification I made was to replace the 2 x 8s for the bench top with 1 1/2" MDF. It made for a smoother, more level surface. Thanks again!

Appreciate this video. Alot of these DIY videos are projects for "under $500" after you spend $1000 on the necessary tools.
