I was at the Saturday night show....incredible event.....mezzanine seats - front row - directly face-on to the stage orientation....my wife and son were dancing throughout the entire show...then he did the exit in the jeep and I thought the crowd was going to tear the place down....terrific experience....I sure miss him..

Nobody is he KING OF MUSIC. Its too broad a spectrum. He cant be the king of Reggae for Example thats Bob Marley. Cant be the King of Country thats Garth Brooks. Cant be the king of Hard Rock. Thats Led Zeppelin.
Its even a stretch to the informed to call him the King of Rock n Roll. As he never created it. He just jumped on the bandwagon. And took advantage of the moment. Being pretty. And the schoolgirls favourite. Maybe the king of ballads. If anyone was the king of Rock n Roll it was LITTLE RICHARD. King of Rockabilly should be Carl Perkins. Elvis had the look and a great voice. But he was never the most talented never.

I don’t think Elvis ever realized how much of an icon he was, especially right before his death. According to Ginger Alden (his gf at the time) Elvis actually asked her if she thought people would remember him when he was gone. I think Elvis would be blown away if he could come back now and see how popular he still is, even after 43 years.

I love to believe he was a gift from a different universe that's full of powerful music and beauty beyond compare. A universe that has also gifted us the likes of Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Prince, and many musical icons. Those people aren't just humans, they're the cream of that universe. If only such universe existed beyond ours, I would love to contact that universe to bring back the icons we have lost, have it use it's cosmic power to bring them back from the grave.

Elvis severly doubted himself, to the point of self-annihilation. His fundamentals, psychologically, were in a shambles and he was a mess. And he certainly was not in his prime in 1970...try 1956-58, 1960. That's about it.

Fascinating video and I thank you. Elvis was one of the most amazing people in our lives. I was a kid living on the third floor in a rather poor but clean neighborhood. I recall my mom yelling out the window to me that Elvis was coming on. I ran all the way. The TV screen was very small and Elvis looked little but boy, that big voice came across. Ed Sullivan. That was a very big show back then. With my age, memories have slipped away but not that one. He moved through life with me with all he did. RIP Elvis

I got to see him twice in concert! First one in February of 1974 and he was still doing well performance wise! One year after the via satellite from Hawaii! I saw him the second and last time, in May of 1977 , barely three months before his very sad, untimely death! 😭
He didn’t look right to me at the concert and I was upset about it! My sisters didn’t understand my anguish because that was their first time to see him. I found out about 10 years ago that the night he played that concert he had been in a semi comatose state in his dressing room about an hour before, and the guys were trying to bring him back around when the Colonel came to the room. His words were to the effect of they had better make sure that he was on that stage or else! 😡
    I couldn’t stand that man!

Always took the blaim for groups music mistakes ! Never was one to shame any one !
The love he and the group had between them and him ! No one could ever imagine ! So mutch respect ! But most important so mutch love real family love ! Elvis was one who couldn't stand beeing alone ! Comes from his beeing a Twin!
Vernon once said ! That both the babies were holding eatch other's hand ! Wow ! See their it is the love he got from his brother and his for his brother !
But Elvis was the youngest .The few minutes to wait were long for Elvis to come into the world ! Gladyce was treated very bad by her Doc! She told the Doc. She has another baby in her !
First born dead . Cruel old drunk Doc. Told her she was crazy ! He was ready to leave ! That's the way it is with poor Indian women ! Bigg imaginations littel sence,! Then He couldn't get the dead babies hand out ! Then Gladyce let out a loud scream! Hear came Elvis ! Looked real bad !
      The Doc.slmost waited
Too long to get him out ! The Doc And Vernon had to both try to pull the hands loose from eatch one of the twins ! God bless Elvis lived to keep Gladyce from losing her mind !
The Drunk Doc. Was stoped from leaving her by God keeping the two baby's hanging on!
Both could have died ! Perhaps all three could have died ! Gladyce had sutch hard time the hole time she was carrying them! She so loved her baby! God made Elvis so very Special ! He carried enough love and talent for Two sons for Gladyce Love Presley!
They were all three special all Elvises life !
Gladyce passed out as soon as Elvis came out from the horribel pains!
Vernon never told Her she had twins one had died,! He let her rest .And took a shoebox and placed the baby in it covered it lid on it . Took it to an old buriel place near the house !
Gladyce knew in her hear and mind ! Vernon and Doc. Both lied to her,. Vernon would never take Gladyce to his grave ! All her life !
Not even Elvis but roomers got arround town about two baby's one died on had lived !
Elvis found it when he was out searching .He and a friend and him found it ! The guy said Elvis would go there he and the boy . And Elvis would lay on the ground close to the Rock on top that Vernon marcked GP
And cry for long time !
They would take a lunch with them every day .And say a prayer for Garron Presley . And Elvis would cry
For his brother and for his moma !The law wouldn't let Elvis move his box from his baby grave to Graceland !But Elvis took his moma later when he knew she was strong enough to stand the sorrow that would fill her heart!
Elvis a born protector of Gladyce Love Presley!

I understand your point about his doubt concerning his first appearance in front of a huge crowd since 1961. But he had conquered his doubts about appearing live since he had two seasons and about 120 shows in Vegas in 69 and 70. Those shows were huge with the audience being filled with celebrities. I don't think in any way those can be dismissed as being live appearances.

I wish he had detached from Colonel Parker. He used and manipulated Elvis and his generosity. Elvis would had gone all over the world. He was really in a trap with Parker.

David. Living in Houston TX, I wish I had gotten to see him at the Dome in 1970. But, I did see him 3 March 1974, evening show. 44, 175 was the announced attendance. Everytime he played, he broke his own attendance records. I might add that, the Astrodome shows were the Only time he performed without the orchestra. I will also add that, the first show was a matinee show on a school day. I had read that this was an invite show for Handicapped folks. Don’t know if that is true. Just read it somewhere. The Colonel wanted to book Elvis into mega stadiums for his tours straight after Vegas, I mean that's where the money was, stadium shows, and the Colonel wanted to milk the fans!!
BUT sound was crap, no one could here, people could not see him as at that time there were no screens..........so Elvis said to the Colonel, no more STADIUMS!! Not that he did not like the atmosphere of a huge crowd, he LOVED that, more than the Vegas shows, in some ways.
So for the next few years indoor arenas up to twenty thousand people were only picked for the tours.
Of course he did play there in 74, broke his own attendance records, and broke the world record for a single performance attendance at the Silverdome in 75, but again Elvis DID NOT like these shows as the fans could not see, hear or enjoy the show's as they could in the arenas that he was usually playing. Even in a twenty thousand seat, or a twelve thousand seat arena, if you're not near the front, without video screens you couldn't see jack!
But at least the sound was better in those venues than at enormous and outdoor venues at that time.
That's unfortunately why we NEVER had Elvis live at, Yankee stadium, The L.A. Coliseum, JFK Stadium etc. Not that he couldn't fill such venues, on the contrary he would've probably set attendance records that may NEVER had been broken, but the technology just was not there, and in Elvis mind people would not enjoy the show.
NOW if Elvis had been in his prime from say the early 80's onwards when technology was MUCH better and Stadium concerts were becoming the norm, the attendance numbers that he got at the Astrodome would've been a small to average size Elvis crowd, as he would be packing the biggest venues on the planet multiple nights in a row!!
Also and most importantly Elvis would be happy that all fans would be able to hear, see him and at least get their money's worth.
    Alas, what could have been.........

to mention touring the world and filling the seats...no problem.

Another reason for this, which was addressed head on at the Pontiac Silverdome in '75 was the issue of Col.Parker blocking off the top tier because no one would have been able to see anything. Elvis could have easily packed that place, BUT the Col. refused to use big screens. Because that meant Elvis would have had to be professionally filmed, which also meant ridiculous contractual demands made by Parker all basically coming down to lots of $$$$$$$$.

Elvis is a great friend to the folks of small town Texas . He used to stop by the house. Of a older lady and her family's house. Who live close to my house one block up . We would see him get out and his big black car would leave him there. He would stay a week at a time . When he was coming through East Texas ! Or play in Shreve port or The Houston Astrodome!
He was so layed back !
After he left . I would go visit the lady . I used to cut her grass and she was a peatch !
    She always took pics.
While he was there . Her kids have the old house now. And they loved him very mutch . The lady kept his room the same as when he was there ! Now her kids son has his room !
And it is still kept the same ! After all not all teens can say Elvis spent his relaxed times visiting thier Grand mas house weeks at a time ! He loved her home country style cooking ! And her Buttermilk Bisquites !
Reminded him of His Momas cooking ! What great memories . Greatest ever !

I never heard that story of the King! I really enjoyed it. I wish u could of played at least one song, so I could hear why Elvis was very concerned, by the sound. But I really enjoyed the story of the king of ROCK N ROLL. I also love to hear about all the stories of Elvis Presley's trials & tribulations of his whole life, as a performer and his personal life as well. Elvis Presley met so much to me, as I was growing up. I'm 67 yrs old and he was my all time greatest singer and human being of all time. He was the king of cool. There will never b another performer like Elvis Presley I think forever. He was the Greatest! It's just a shame he couldn't get away from his Mgr Tom Parker. Because Elvis had so much more to give to us. Elvis's mgr, is the reason Elvis went into his shell at the end of his career. He wanted to tour Europe badly, also he wanted to prove he was a good actor too. But because of all the restrictions from Tom Parker it stole the charisma and his happiness of wanting to live. It's so sad what happened to our beloved king of all music & of himself as a pure love of humanity! We should of stepped in to help him, just because of the gentle soul Elvis Presley was to mankind. & we let him down with all our love we had for this giant of an entertainer, it breaks my heart, the way people talked in bad faith to a living legend. And we all should be ashamed of ourselves for it. May he rest in peace, because I can't think of anyone more deserving then Elvis Presley our beloved King of ROCK N ROLL AND ALL MUSIC. He should b remembered mostly of Gospel! Like I said before he was the greatest of rythm and blues, love songs, soul, Gospel and of course ROCK N ROLL OF ALL TIME. GOD BLESS YOU ELVIS AARON PRESLEY in Jesus name I pray Amen!

I have to commend you for these videos. They lead to different topics and make people think. Out of curiosity I looked up stadium type concerts and found the Beatles at Shea Stadium in '65 which not only pulled in 55,000 people in a day but was released as a documentary which pulled in a massive audience. Even Ed Sullivan, the guy who thought Elvis was sinful, introduced The Beatles as if they were the next coming of Jesus. Meanwhile, in '65 Elvis was on a hamster wheel of making mediocre movies and according to the Graceland site for that year he bought the horse farm to help cheer him up about the stalled (no pun intended) frustration he felt about his career. In spite of every obstacle Tom Parker put in Elvis' way, Elvis found a way to triumph and I'll put his '68 Comeback Special and the string of hits that followed next to anything the Beatles ever did. When you realize The Beatles only had a career for about seven years in the States before a homely Japanese woman whose singing made dogs howl caused their demise, they don't even belong in the same category as Elvis and it should have been Elvis at Shea Stadium that day, another thing for which we can "thank" the Colonel.
