A lot of people here in Shreveport had involvement with early Elvis. Recently, a swimming pool he donated to a boy scout camp out in the country (at the time) was demolished to make way for a Kroger parking lot. Slowly, his friends here are dying off, and places he frequented are disappearing. A woman from here who was also on the Louisiana Hayride owns Sun Records now. She and her husband bought it long ago. This video is full of great pictures that I have never seen before!
@@joanie3452 i’ve always been told it was a YMCA camp in fact they still own the property they sold part of it to Kroger for the new shopping center which has been really awesome and they are now building an actual YMCA location at the ruins of the firmer camp. The camp had been abandoned for decades and the pool I think for even longer, I don’t think there was much left of the pool when they decided to reinvent the whole area. This area didn’t have any grocery stores or similar businesses for miles but neighborhoods were starting to move in so it was keep the crumbling pool or bring some community to this area.
I’m honestly kind of proud of how much we preserved Elvis‘s history considering we haven’t preserved too much other history. I’ll be honest I’ve read many books on Shreveport we’ve lost a lot of history over the years but thankfully we still have the Municipal Auditorium in fact they just had a country music festival a few days ago there in honor of the hayride, and we have a few other Elvis related places I won’t go into detail on in this comment but don’t forget his favorite donut shop Southern maid donuts the original location still exist that’s where Elvis would go get donuts, the only commercial he ever did from what I’m told was for Southern Maid donuts on the Louisiana Hayride! When it comes to physical places the only thing we have lost was the abandoned pool you mentioned, and while it was a sad day to lose the crumbling pool remnants the new development really added a lot to this part of Shreveport.
When I was living near Memphis, back in the summer of 80, I took 2 Elvis tours and more. Visited Graceland on the 3rd sad anniversary. An many other times. Will never forget the vibes when I stepped inside Sun Studios and American Sounds studio. Man if those walls could talk. Thanks for the video. Also still remember the day the King broke on thru.

@@tonyclapson6696 Very true but they werent PRETTY ENOUGH or the RIGHT COLOR. If Elvis had looked like Roy Orbison or Buddy Holly. You wouldnt hear a squeak about him now. His success was 75% looks and 25% talent. Little Richard blows him away for pure Rock and Roll. But of course he is black. So no go son. He got ripped off like nobody. While Elvis got more than he deserved. It was a reflection of the times. Thats why I will always respect artists like the Beatles.and Elton John alot more. You didnt buy their music because they were pretty . You bought it because they were talented.
@@fender1000100 You clearly are tone deaf and blind if you think Elvis had no talent. Did any of the artists you mentioned ever make full length motion pictures as the lead role/star? Cause Elvis sure did. Did they also sing the Lord's praises at anytime in their careers? Cause you guessed it, Elvis did. His Gospel albums are still selling today. It's even possible someone is buying one right now from their iPhone on the same block or area you live in.

I also enjoyed other music and many different types that were popular Except not the disrespectful Beatles.. I never liked them.. They had also rude fans and they were rude... I remember, back in 1957, when at my first Navy duty station, an ice breaker USS Burton Island AGB1, docked in Bremerton, Wa., I would ride the ferry Seattle, and go to the big YWCA, where sailors would go to meet girls; we would sit in the snack bar, with our dates, and put our quarters in the Juke Box, and listen to Elvis sing ‘All Shook Up, five times for a quarter😁 OMG... I met Elvis in 1976 when I was a dealer at Harrahs Casino in Lake Tahoe. He played several hands on my blackjack table. I was blown away. When he left I said, thank you very much 😀
To me,i believe,Elvis's greatness was he never forgot how to stay humble. He remembered that other's didn't have the best of fortune he had found. He always shared and cared. And he knew how people could be judgemental. He was just a good hearted man at heart.
Elvis had never FOUND.any fortune .he was dirt poor As.a kid bought guitar after.saveing for a year for for 7 dollars worked hard his hole life to get where he was.at..until his dying day sang and played his very best..so I.must say Elvis presley was never given any fortune.he realized every dY just how fortunate he was and never.ever forgot where he came from

Thank You this to me is much better then any movie they can make “ this is the real thing told by people who were there , Elvis had the had the rhythm, he felt it in his body, he had a ear for music, a gift from God ! Elvis was the best thing to happen in my Era ,he kept us singing and twisting, every day was a happy day back in the 50’s and 60’s , even my daddy loved Elvis Presley 😂🙏🕺🕺🙏
My parents loved 🥰 him as well, and he’s my favorite musician.. so tell me are you a fan of Elvis..?
Elvis Presley did change the world of music ! There will never be another one like Elvis !
Brenda Booher. Never.
So true
Brenda Booher there will never be another culture vulture like elvis
Love Elvis,,,, never never be another Singer,Star like him,,, too young to go .... still loved by millions of fans, Worldwide.. his memory, his music is here forever...
Absolutely, I cannot think of a better way to say it! “Elvis was a gift!”
Too bad the old days have to disappear
How awful to demolish something that was bought by Elvis for a f..king car park is just sacrilege.
No freaking way. The pool thing pisses me off so bad 😡😢
God is good God always give us a good gift n blessings to make us happy Elvis is a good person and gifted from god
Elvis lives in hearts forever till judgment day. Love you soo much dear Elvis.
I would give anything to live in this era
Elvis was the most handsome man that GOD ever created, then He broke the mold, I've loved him for 67years and still am one of his biggest fans.Elvis will live on in our memories with his music
Same as well!

Elvis and his Music has not Died, if you Make to Heaven you will See him Singing and Entertaining the Heavenly Host.....
One of a kind; a beautiful man, inside and out.
I've been lucky enough to have spent years alone with the Elvis Presley Family and can say they are the kindest and friendliest celebrities I've known and I've been with quite a few. ❤️
DURING THIS TIME ELVIS PRESLEY ALWAYS KNEW WHAT HE WANTED WITH THE BACKIMG OF HIS PARENTS GAVE ELVIS PRESLEY THE LIFE THAT HE COULD ALWAYS REMIND EVERYONE THAT HIS SIGNATURE SMILE THAT WWAS A WINNER
I met (Louisiana Hayride announcer ) Hoss Logan in Monroe, Louisiana in the late 1980's. I visited with him several times. He had the BEST Elvis stories EVER!! I wish he would have had them published before he passed away so the whole world could hear them. Rest in Peace Mr. Logan , you were a treasure in your own right. Since your already in heaven, tell your old friend Elvis I said hi.
Elvis is beyond my time, he was during my mom's time, and he gets my attention always. He was special is all I can say. ❤️
Hello sharon, how’re you doing ?!
This short clip of Elvis is beautiful.. he was the real deal and still is in my book! I saw him in 1974 in Ft. Worth Tx.
He was absolutely amazing.. It was the best show I have ever seen.. His legacy lives on.. His only daughter is now gone, I thought she was beautiful just like her daddy .. The loss of her son Benjamin was more than she could handle.. I hope they are all in Heaven together and keeping the heavens entertained.. ♥️♥️♥️
He lives in my soul. I will never forget him.
Same as well!
So tell me are you a fan of Elvis…?
The legendary story of Elvis begins with a human being... at the right place, right time, fit the suit just waiting for the life force to wear it, to do to the world it did in 1954... His life is historical, transformational, & utterly modern... one word ELVIS
Absolutely gorgeous and Elvis just started singing and then everyone started playing his song and then we knew Elvis found his 1st song and the rest was a great new single and Elvis was so excited sweet and happy and Elvis is now on the records ans wow so handsome stunning and beautiful and Elvis was just a little bit happy and a very loving and precious person God Bless you Elvis no 1 and it just loved his records and he certainly loved his fans Most precious Handsome and sweet Elvis forever and always AMEN God Bless you Elvis forever AMEN
Excellent video. Loaded with lots of rare pics of his beginning that have not been seen by most of us.
When Elvis sang, That’s All Right Mama, they all knew he was a STAR ⭐️
He was born with that gift 💝 there’s something special about him that people don’t see. So tell me are you a fan of Elvis..?
I think the most amazing thing about Elvis is that he apears to every demographic and generation. Thats a nearly impossible task
Before anyone did anything, Elvis did everything. Long live the King.
There was a lot of music before Elvis, you need to start listening to other artists and not just Elvis.
@@tonyclapson6696 he allowed black music to be recognized and nobody seen anybody like him.

Very true but they werent PRETTY ENOUGH or the RIGHT COLOR.
I'm so glad that I was able to be born in the time of Elvis, I grew up loving this man. I'm 65 now and I still listen to Elvis everyday. I was 24 when he died.
I'm a couple of years older than you. At that time, it was not "cool" to love Elvis.. but I did not care. I knew he was the best.
I'm 68 and I remember him well. Loved him then and now.
Same here and will never stop loving listening and enjoying all there is about Elvis...He lifts my spirit in these troubling times as well as the Lord does too... but in different ways and I think God knows we needed both... one for music and giving and caring and the other to Love us and save our souls and be our teacher... Leading us to the Lord.
@@caprice8770 I am a few years older too and yes it was cool to love and enjoy Elvis all the years he was making records and performing and making movies... I dont know where you grew up or where you lived but it was always cool to enjoy and love Elvis... Says who? I also enjoyed other music and many different types that were popular Except not the disrespectful Beatles.. I never liked them.. They had also rude fans and they were rude... So maybe you hung out with the wrong crowd if you thought it wasnt cool to love Elvis or enjoy his music... That's crazy, never heard of and to me that is an insult to Real Elvis Fans who have lived and still enjoy him... I am not one of his crazy screaming and chasing fans but a long time fan in so many ways, and defend my memories of him...I cried and cried and was so devastated when he died it was to me worse than when Other tragic deaths happened in the time but effected me strongly, like When JFK died or MLK as both were assassinated even Robert Kennedy too... we had good back then but also huge tragedies and times began to change in so many ways...
I'm 64 and I'm glad I was born at this time.
We were ‘nuts’ about Elvis!!!
Imagine. Changing the WORLD, all by Yourself. Only Elvis..only Elvis.♡
Elvis helped a lot of children around the world to give them hope and consolation. And that was the wonder of him
I believe he was the son every mother would want and he never forgot that his mother loved him is a wonderful thing
I have three boys and a daughter they have become wonderful adults
Love this short film. Gives a real sense of what it must have been like way back in the 50s. Sad that it is over and that Elvis no longer alive, but his legacy and music will go on FOREVER. The was The greatest entertainer OF ALL TIME. No singer or group can come close or touch him - he was THE BEST... xxx
Oh yes always and forever, good hearted, humble never forgot where he came from.
“The only thing a Blackman is good for is to shine my shoes”
Ho away when you talk like this your realy showing your educstion
Elvis had never FOUND.any fortune .he was dirt poor As.a kid bought guitar after.saveing for a year for for 7 dollars worked hard his hole life to get where he was.at..until his dying day sang and played his very best..so I.must say Elvis presley was never given any fortune.he realized every dY just how fortunate he was and never.ever forgot where he came from
You are a disgrace to YOUR NATIONALITY AND all..ITALIANS BE NICE THE WORLD ALREADY HAS ENOUGH IGNORACE IN THOS WORLD..PLUS WHEN YOU TALK LIKE THIS..YOUR SHOWING YOUR EDUCATION
Has to be best looking man ever to walk this earth !
Sorry to see his grandson depart before before his time , he looked just like him too .
I was24yrs old when Elvis past away it was in the middle of the night in England and I always had the radio on and i remember my husband waking me up and saying in a very soft voice guess who’s died I was still half asleep and I just said who feeling very annoyed with him for waking me as we had a 3 week old baby and he just said Elvis I couldn’t speak for awhile and then I just said no you’ve got it wrong he said no he’s died it just broke me I ran into our lounge and put the tv on and there it was right in front of my eyes breaking news the king of Rock and Roll has died he was 42yrs old I just fell to the floor and cried like a baby I didn’t think I would ever stop my husband held me and then he broke down to I felt lost as if it was all a dream but sadly it wasn’t I’ve never got over it and I never will it just seems like yesterday and the hurt never goes away he had so much more to give but he left us so much Thank you Elvis for the gift you left us all RIP Love ❤️ from Denise in Yorkshire England 🏴🏴🏴😢👑⚡️💔XX
Как трогательно 😢❤
I totally understand!! I was 22 when he left us and felt the same grief!! I will always love and miss that gorgeous man!! He had so much more to give. If he wouldn’t have been so sick and so addicted to all of those prescription drugs! 😢
There will never be another Elvis. He bring it all. Sadly, he didn’t surround himself with anyone who would have his back in his time of weakness and the world lost a demi-god.
Yep. An exciting but lonely existence. People took advantage of Elvis' innocence and naivete.
My dad played the hayride in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. Dad performed same night as Elvis once and said he'd never perform again following him lol
I said the same about Prince. Could you imagine anybody daring to take the stage after him?!
@@majorkade Yes, ELVIS!
