45 years ago today (8/16/77) I was a 2 year old. That was the day this world lost the greatest performer and rock n roll legend ever produced, the incomparable Elvis Aaron Presley. A beautiful man with a beautiful voice, graced with humility, charm, charisma and coolness. The world has never been the same since that fateful day. May the Lord allow his soul to Rest In Peace in heaven. We will never forget you, Elvis. ❤️
I was 17 and I remember very well at night when it came over the radio, “Elvis Presley has died” it was shocking but I didn’t know enough to know ge was having such hardships. It’s a sad story and I don’t quite understand why his dad didn’t fight more fore him. I understand Elvis was a grown man but since he felt helpless against that evil crook Parker, seems loved ones would have stood with him to fight. I know they didn’t know what to do but lawyers step in and fight for you. Just thank GOD Pricilla was a strong willed person because it seems she was the strength behind something legally being done to that maggot Parker

@@d.estinys.life_ So not a fun fact! Elvis worked his nuts off to become famous, drew on many musical influences to meld into his own vocals and performances. He was a whirlwind, a young kid with a minus 10 start in life (as were many others - I take that on board) however he shook up the music world (dance moves, super magnetic looks, unique vocals) he influenced and changed many that followed into the music we all listen to today. A lot of people here in Shreveport had involvement with early Elvis. Recently, a swimming pool he donated to a boy scout camp out in the country (at the time) was demolished to make way for a Kroger parking lot. Slowly, his friends here are dying off, and places he frequented are disappearing. A woman from here who was also on the Louisiana Hayride owns Sun Records now. She and her husband bought it long ago. This video is full of great pictures that I have never seen before!
@@joanie3452 i’ve always been told it was a YMCA camp in fact they still own the property they sold part of it to Kroger for the new shopping center which has been really awesome and they are now building an actual YMCA location at the ruins of the firmer camp. The camp had been abandoned for decades and the pool I think for even longer, I don’t think there was much left of the pool when they decided to reinvent the whole area. This area didn’t have any grocery stores or similar businesses for miles but neighborhoods were starting to move in so it was keep the crumbling pool or bring some community to this area.
I’m honestly kind of proud of how much we preserved Elvis‘s history considering we haven’t preserved too much other history. I’ll be honest I’ve read many books on Shreveport we’ve lost a lot of history over the years but thankfully we still have the Municipal Auditorium in fact they just had a country music festival a few days ago there in honor of the hayride, and we have a few other Elvis related places I won’t go into detail on in this comment but don’t forget his favorite donut shop Southern maid donuts the original location still exist that’s where Elvis would go get donuts, the only commercial he ever did from what I’m told was for Southern Maid donuts on the Louisiana Hayride! When it comes to physical places the only thing we have lost was the abandoned pool you mentioned, and while it was a sad day to lose the crumbling pool remnants the new development really added a lot to this part of Shreveport.

Wooly Highlander Actually, you can say his last few YEARS. The physical decline can be seen in ‘74 and onward and based on the observations of those close to Elvis, I believe there was a psychological decline for some time. A person doesn’t crash and burn at age 42 like Elvis did without some long-term deep seated emotional issues.
John Monroe Well, I think she would have delayed it but Elvis (it seems) was checking out. Besides, what kind of relationship was that for Linda? Hardly a healthy one.
@@danc3693 Those deep seated issues were called prescription drugs. Elvis became an addict. Sure we can blame the people prescribing these drugs, yet Elvis had freedom of choice and he chose to continue taking them. The sad thing is, the public wanted Elvis to stay the way he was when he first became famous. Elvis tho was getting older and with age with All humans comes a decline in health and energy levels. Elvis took the drugs to keep on top. Yet the toll caught up with him. It takes a lot for an addict to seek help, the drugs become the norm. I believe the breakup of his marriage was the begining of the end for Elvis and his career. Yet he made his mark on the world, that, can never be erased, he touched peoples lives and people loved him for that. I keep reading in the comments, "we need another Elvis", or " there will never be another Elvis". I find these statements to be weird. Ofcourse there will never be another Elvis. People need only cherish the Elvis that was and if he touched peoples lives and hearts with his music, then there is no better legacy. Peace and blessings too you.
D. All good statements I mostly agree with; however, the deep seated issues were not prescription drugs but the feelings, issues inside of Elvis that drove him those drugs. He was escaping and self medicating - to get away from something. Addiction recovery programs address the issues behind the self medicating behavior.
I understand that we like what we like but I always thought that the greatest singer was Ray Charles or Nat Cole. etc. But like I said we like what we like. Bless you.

To me,i believe,Elvis's greatness was he never forgot how to stay humble. He remembered that other's didn't have the best of fortune he had found. He always shared and cared. And he knew how people could be judgemental. He was just a good hearted man at heart.
Elvis had never FOUND.any fortune .he was dirt poor As.a kid bought guitar after.saveing for a year for for 7 dollars worked hard his hole life to get where he was.at..until his dying day sang and played his very best..so I.must say Elvis presley was never given any fortune.he realized every dY just how fortunate he was and never.ever forgot where he came from
You are a disgrace to YOUR NATIONALITY AND all..ITALIANS BE NICE THE WORLD ALREADY HAS ENOUGH IGNORACE IN THOS WORLD..PLUS WHEN YOU TALK LIKE THIS..YOUR SHOWING YOUR EDUCATION
Elvis never needed to use pyrotechnics in his concerts because Elvis was the pyrotechnics. It’s over, now that Elvis is gone. There will be many greats but no Elvis. He was the number 1 best of the best.
Thats a matter of opinion. Buddy holly was alot more talented than Elvis. But he wasnt pretty. Little Richard blows Elvis away but he was black in a SUPER RACIST AMERICA. So dont tell me nobody was better plenty were. But they either werent pretty enough to have schoolgirls buying up their music. Or were the wrong color to be accepted. Proof of this came from Elvis himself. As soon as he became fat and lost most of his looks. You couldnt give his records away. And thats why he had to degrade himself in Vegas and endless touring that killed him prematurely. Thats the proof right there.
PROJECT DX Absolutely it’s a matter of opinion including your reply. It’s art therefore subjective. People respond and react to different music in that same way. Presley’s final Album was released before his death. The single Moody Blue reached No 1 on the country billboard charts in November of 1976 (before his death). The album itself reached No 1 dropped and then peaked again at No 3 on the charts after his death. This is completely contrary to your “opinion” of Elvis’ appearance effecting his sales. As you put it “you couldn’t give his records away”. He was still charting. His concerts were already sold out before he died. Of course he wasn’t the young James Dean rebel 20yr old of the 50’s, time marches on but to imagine a reality of Elvis becoming fameless is not even an opinion, that’s just a made up reality.
@@fender1000100 Why you hatin' man? I see you all over this comment section just hatin' your ass off. Honestly, I don't think your opinion has anything to do with music at all. Like Little Richard says to James Brown in the motion picture: Get On Up, "What happened to you? I know what happened to me, Sugar'." Something has happened to you in the past, or A LOT of something's, and it shows. I pray for you. I pray you find forgiveness and peace. In Jesus name, Amen. Elvis was just one of those who made a huge impact, nobody seen it coming back then and had no idea what he was capable of. He was a trendsetter & was way ahead of his time, an entirely different character that nobody had ever seen. It may seem normal or silly at the fact that his hip movement was “vulgar.” It was just different times, standards & morals. He was so generous and just amazing all around. Little Richard blows him away for pure Rock and Roll. But of course he is black. So no go son. He got ripped off like nobody. While Elvis got more than he deserved. It was a reflection of the times. Thats why I will always respect artists like the Beatles.and Elton John alot more. You didnt buy their music because they were pretty . You bought it because they were talented.
@@fender1000100 You clearly are tone deaf and blind if you think Elvis had no talent. Did any of the artists you mentioned ever make full length motion pictures as the lead role/star? Cause Elvis sure did. Did they also sing the Lord's praises at anytime in their careers? Cause you guessed it, Elvis did. His Gospel albums are still selling today. It's even possible someone is buying one right now from their iPhone on the same block or area you live in.
Elvis kicked the doors open for many other preformers with his style of music. He was an overnight sensation and the best entertainer of all time. There will never be anyone like him. I still miss Elvis and I am still listening to his music in 2023

Memphis is the birthplace of rock and roll and what would be the rest of history in the making and that would be the man the myth the legend Elvis Presley
My sweet Mama God rest her sweet soul was a waitress in Columbus Mississippi. Elvis came to town to play and came into the restaurant with his manager after the end of his set. My mama found him a room at the adjacent motel that he could go hide out in because the girls at the concert had just ripped at his clothes to point he barely kept his pants on. Mama was acquainted with his Aunt and Uncle, so she didn't sell him out when girls came looking for him. She thought the poor guy needed some rest away from the crowd. She always loved his singing and owned just about every movie he ever made. That man Loved his mama.
Just like you love your mama. Thanks for sharing.

Too bad the old days have to disappear
How awful to demolish something that was bought by Elvis for a f..king car park is just sacrilege.
No freaking way. The pool thing pisses me off so bad 😡😢

What a shame no one could help him in his last few months, if they had he might still be with us. ! What a Loss !
Wooly Highlander I think that if Linda had still been there, he wouldn't have died. She would have checked in on him.
Elvis was a classic singer with an amazing voice. He will go down as the best singer of the century.

Yes, never be another like ELVIS! He is still the best! Number one!
Same with me, 14, when Elvis first on T.V. When he died, I lost a loved one.
Something has happened to you in the past, or A LOT of something's, and it shows.
