1970 or 1971 are probably my favorite years for innovation, competitors do anything to gain even the slightest advantage, the Porsche 917 being the #1 most innovative obviously, some might yell at me for this but I would say #2 is the Matra simca ms670 longtail with its iconic pontoon rear
One of these - a red one - appears at the start of the film Le Mans. You see the rear of it, with its signature louvres, as it goes into the Dunlop Curve.
Fantastic drive and car. What's the maximum height for drivers with a helmet in the G8 and G16 cars? Need to work out if my 6ft2 frame will fit or if I need to go the open top route
My brother raced a lotus 23 back in the 70s. He had good battles with the chevron b8 as it was the same engine. (Both 2valve/cyl engines) The B16 was a higher class 4valve/cyl engine much more power. So I’m guessing the b8 running in this video has a 16valve engine in it
Fastest B-8 I ever saw! Had something to do with a blue one at Sebring, late '60s Worked on rube goldberg auto fire system Looked like Mallory's oxygen system, 1920s.. Passed inspection after I replaced all the ulmer leather seals and gaskets with neopreme. A DNF.. HOT BMW!
Yes, the white car is Peter Vogele's 917, chassis 025. www.racingsportscars.com/chassis/917-025.html Yes, that B8 has a very good driver! He was great fun to race with.

Great video, stunning car and very well driven. The noise of the 917 is awesome

This car did race in le mans 1970 and is in the footage McQueen captured from the race and put into the movie
@@macmacma So it’s probably the same car then?
@@thethirdman225 it is yessir!

I am 5'11" and needed the bubble
That chevron b8 ahead of it must have a 16valve engine in it also.
For all that people love to rave about 917s and high top speeds, I think a car like this would be just as much fun.
What a beautiful vehicle and so well driven . . how fast are you travelling down the long straights? Thanks for a great video. from Australia.
Thank you! It is a pretty car. We were geared for about 155-160mph
@@macmacma Were you having to lift on the straights to avoid over-revving?
@@TalesFromTheBlahSide I was lifting to stay behind the blue car. He was a better driver and I was trying to follow his line

What a beautiful song... 👍💪😜🏎️🏁 Is it a BMW M16 or a Ford Cosworth (4 cylinders)? Good downshifts 👍😉🏎️🏁🤓🇫🇷
Ford Cosworth FVC
@@macmacma Thanks for your answer. It was a good time, the cars were beautifuls, "symphonics" and drivers had the sense of the mechanic... 👍🏎️🏁🤓🇫🇷
I wonder why the GT40's missed out during the 1970 Le Mans when this ford B16 entry was present
The GT40 was no longer competitive in 1970. It lucked into a Le Mans win in '69. The 917, T70 Mk3b, and 512 were far superior
FCV or BDG? Did the B8 have the same motor? Is the B16 advantage over B8 just aerodynamics?
FVC. I think both had FVCs. I think so, and wider tires
