You Can Reduce Your Cost Of Living In Panama

- Reginald (aka Reggie) came on a Panama Relocation Tour in 2019 then relocated to Boquete Panama a few months later. In this video, he talks about how he has been able to significantly reduce his cost of living which has taken the stress away about retirement. He is actually saving money during retirement because his costs are so low it does not take all his Social Security or pension to afford a very comfortable lifestyle.
Reggie talks about living in Boquete where he can get a really good meal at a Panamanian restaurant for less than $5 and it is $15 to see an English-speaking doctor without insurance. Because the weather is so mild in Boquete, daytime temps in the mid-70s, it is much more comfortable to walk outside and you do not need air conditioning in your home.
Listen to his recommendations for anyone who is considering a move to Panama!
(NOTE: During the pandemic, we are extremely limited on where we can go to shoot videos so you'll see more videos of Boquete and Chiriqui Province because that is the only place we can go to shoot videos now. As soon as Panama's borders open up more, we will be able to get more videos in other areas.)

Reginald. Thank you brother, I appreciate your love for Panama and I feel your passion. I am a few years out but I can't wait to be an immigrant. I want that relaxed style and As a Black man, I need to just live my best life. Panama is my top choice. I have been researching and I will do a tour as soon as I can. You look fantastic for 70 and I can only hope to have your passion too. You make me want Panama even more.. Thanks
Reginald makes my heart happy. Listening to your relocation story makes me want to come.
I feel the same way especially without driving. And Boquete is like Cuenca Ecuador, where there is no heavy humidity and heat! I would work to follow in Reginald's footsteps. Reginald, how do you feel about high import taxes for buying online?? It's so great the way we think alike despite being from different backgrounds !
Señor Reggie, I'm happy that you're happy living in my country.
What a charming man. He has an open mind. That makes his experience there better. It sounds like he made a wise decision to move to Panama. Best wishes to him for continued success and enjoyment of life.
That’s the feeling I want... “this is home”! I’m so looking forward to my tour next year and meeting all the friendly people like Reginald.
44 and can’t wait to leave the states.. this video was useful.. keep safe and strong
I feel you!
Me neither
Hola. The name of the town is BOQUETE in the province of CHIRIQUI. Glad that you are enjoying Panama and the Panamanians!😁God bless. Hope one day I can see you walking the streets of Boquete. Go explore Volcan, you'll love it too, it's not to far and food and climate is as good as in Boquete.🌈
I just retired after having worked over 50 years. I too have no desire to work a part time job. I want my pension to last the rest of my lifetime and live in paradise.
Worrell? My karate Master Sensei's last names were also Worrell. They owned, taught and ran an academy in Panama. One was born in 1950 and the other in 1954, so they are likely retired by now, but maybe their Academy is still open. They were extremely high-ranking and very highly regarded black belt karatekas in Panama. Leonel and Arturo were their first names. Direct disciples of Nakayama in Japan.
My wife and I can’t wait to get the hell out of here. Our goal is to move to Mexico when I’m 54 (just turned 47). We’re both fluent in Spanish and both have a lot of family there. I’ve known a few men who have retired in their 60’s and passed away shortly after. That’s the absolute saddest. We’re working to live, not living to work. Great video
You're doing the right thing. Mexico is great too!
You said it. I retired 18 yrs. ago at 55, and I admit I have worked on occasion from time to time. However, there's a big difference! I am not forced to work. I do it because I want to and not because I have to!
I turn 46 this and my goal is to be outta here by 55 the latest.
I want to make that move sooner rather than later! I don’t want to wait until I retire
I think we all like this man by the messages.
Reggie is such a nice person!
What a sweet sweet man ❤️
Been lurking on the channel & watching many of the previous clients & thought oh wow I'm gonna do that one day. Well, Reginald's video makes me feel I'm actually ready to pull the trigger. Wow, what a sweet inviting, calm soul he has. Great interview! 👍. Thank you.
Isn't he just the best!
Such a lovely gentleman. This was a great interview. He was so stress-free and gave a nice testament. I think I missed where he said he was living but another good one. I love these interviews.
I know Im randomly asking but does any of you know a trick to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow forgot my password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
@Jairo Jake instablaster =)
@Anderson Ayaan thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Anderson Ayaan it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out :D
@Jairo Jake Happy to help :D
Thank you for sharing your experiences. And thank you for actually using the word Immigrant. So many Americans are afraid to use that word. Because in the U.S. Immigrant carries so much negative baggage. Welcome to Panama!! You will probably live longer here too. I've seen people look younger after being here for 3 years. And I'm not making that up either. You'll see what I mean after a couple of years. lol Enjoy!!
What a nice man, with wonderful advice and comments! Hope to meet him and other people in Boquete someday, soon. 🙂
Nice man, talking without feeling like I was listening to a tourist guide. Have a great life and hope you are Blessed with excellent health.
Thank you for your post Reggie. You answered a lot of my questions about Panama. Your community in Boquete is lovely. I hope to visit Panama very soon and meet other expats like you and hopefully you. You are a kind and thoughtful man.
I love it when real people speak from the heart. "This is home" that's what I'm looking for....I'm going to find it.
a great video, maybe show where he is living?? I enjoy the shots of the ppls homes.
Your story and experience in Panama is inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing.
Hey Muad'! And he's a Vet too! With so many vets relocating to Panama somebody should do a video about the Veterans' Hospital in Panama. I keep hearing so many people talk about it. IMHO, it would be interesting for vets to learn more about it.
fanfare100 That would be great. If COVID19 cooperates, I should be living Panama by August 2021. I’ll do a video.
@@RonsWorld5 Can't wait to see it!!
I can't wait. December I am praying that all goes well and the airport is open.
Boquete will be my new home. I live in St Petersburg Fl and I honestly don't care for Florida after living in Colorado.
.Thank you for your video you did a good job Reggie..God Bless.
I move here from Dunedin in July of last year. Love it here.
You will love Panama because, just like Florida, it's got the beaches, but you also got the mountains. But you don't get the hurricanes, nor the police brutality nor racism and other baggage. Also, your medical bills (for world-class quality healthcare) won't wipe out the life savings you worked so hard to get. ...so you can actually keep and enjoy the "American Dream". Enjoy!
@@fanfare100Amen! I mean the police brutality and racism alone is enough to get us outta here!
We visited Panama City 11 years ago and definitely looking forward to checking out Boquette! Tours are sold out! That says it all. We really enjoyed Reggie's testimony. One of the best video's so far!
You can get on our back up list for a 2021 tour. We'll let you know if we get an opening. And now we are offering Private Tours for only $200 a day. See details at panamarelocationtours.com/private-tours
Another great video would be nice when the country opens up 🙏🏽 Thank You Jackie and Regie
I'm ready to move, you sound so happy with your decision to move there. I hope to visit as soon as the country opens up.
Telling the way it is! Very interesting video!
I like Reginald's attitude
Wonderful interview... I can't wait to visit... and move to Central America - 2021 target
You will love Panama!!!
Thank you Mr. Reggie! ❤️ your video! I am researching different countries for black expats. I'm just now considering Panama. Costa Rica. Barbados has been on my list for a while. I like that Panama is not in the Hurricane Belt. May you continue to be very Blessed.

The best interview I Seen..God bless you mister❤🇵🇦🌎
Nothing warms my heart more than seeing my fellow Americans living and thriving outside of the US! It certainly is possible, and I can't wait to join them!
We'll be waiting for you!
Than you so much for sharing your story. My wife and I are seriously looking into and checking out Panama and hopefully relocating in the next few years. All these videos are so enriching. Coming from Colorado we naturally love the mountains but also love the ocean and all it has to offer.
The Pacific Ocean is only 1 hour away from where Reggie lives! The best of both worlds.
Do you want oceans? Panama is a narrow strip of land surronded by the Ocean Pacific and the Caribbean Sea.
I really enjoyed his explanation. As a 70 year young person looking to possibly live in Boquete, this helps a lot.
I would like to make contact with him to discuss Boquete.
Thank You Reggi for all the great Information: : Really looking forward to retire SOON: looking at Panama .
Thanks again , keep up all the great videos
Thanks for watching the video. Glad you enjoyed it.
I love the calmness of your voice :)
Reggie is a gentle soul!
Keep them coming a great job!!!
Definitely going to book this!!!
Thank you ...lovely interview.
Thanks Reggie, that was a great video with your description of Panama & relocation tour!! I can’t wait to see it!!
Great job Reggie. You've convinced me. I'm willing to go for a visit when it is safe to do so due to the pandemic. Thanks for doing this video. Hope to run into you in Panama someday, sir. Thank you. I feel less stress just watching your video.
So glad you liked the video. You'll love Panama. Come visit soon.
Very informative, again. Thank you. It could very well feel like home for me as well.
Mr Reggie what a nice video. Take care and enjoy my country!
Glad you enjoyed it
Oh my goodness....what a wonderful interview! I so enjoyed listening to Reggie!! Thanks for another wonderful personal video to help us know more about Panama!
Thanks for watching the video!
I love your report about Panama.
You are very kind
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Be sure to visit Eddie's Sandwich shop ( open for breakfast and lunch only).. Banana and strawberry pancakes.:) The Fish House is great...(fresh tuna with butter and garlic sauce). Splurge occasionally and enjoy Panamonte Hotel restaurant. Casa Solutions is the best realty company in Boquete.
Mr. Reggie, thank you for sharing your story while living in Boquete. We're looking forward to visiting in 2022. You seem so happy and relaxed. We are looking for a place to retire where our money will go further. I wish you many happy days!
Thanks so much for watching the video!
I wonder what hotel Reginald is living in, and if it is affordable? I don't want to buy, and I think I could enjoy living in a hotel setting. I wish there were old-fashioned boarding houses like there used to be ages ago. I'm not the commune type, but community living is attractive to me. Thank you for this lovely interview about your new life in Boquete, Reginald! Best wishes to you!
The hotel room he was at was actually an apartment in the hotel. He paid $750 a month with everything included. He has now moved to furnished two bedroom house that is $750 a month.
@@PanamaRelocationTours That's fantastic. He's doing it!
@@PanamaRelocationTours what is the Name of the hotel?
I would like to see more of the town and homes. Great interview.
God bless you !
Hi Reginald and Jackie! Thank you very much for sharing your experience in Panama. I’m planning to move there and this video helps to make me firm up my decision.
You will love living in Panama!!
Reginald you seem like you’re adjusting well. Love tip on saving money
Reggie loved living in Panama
Walking is healthy. I do the same. Great video. Thanks.
Great video.
Glad you like the video. Reggie is such a nice guy.
I really enjoyed this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I would like to come down there and do a tour. Will just have to wait longer though because the pandemic has caused so many countries to restrict air flights in. Panama is one of those countries that is still shutdown in that regard.
Love your video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great video! You guys are tremendous!
Thanks again!
Thank you I'm taking the Panama Relocation Tour.
Erika, glad you enjoyed the video! We look forward to meeting you on a Panama Relocation Tour!
HEY Reggie.... Thanks for your friendship at the airport. I am going to sell everything and move to Panama... !
You will LOVE living in Panama!
Awesome video… I was supposed to already be living in Panama..Thank You..
Glad you enjoyed it!
Everytime i change my mind about Mountains over beach as a potential landing spot ....i come back to this video ....Mountains and visit the beach over Beach visit the mountains (leave the Matrix lol)
:) Thank You
My husband worked in US for about 15 years. We are both Canadian. When he died, because I live in Panama instead of Canada they will not even give me an application for his pension. We retired here with our pensions. I like it here too.
I wonder why Reggie lives in a hotel? It is an interesting option! Cleaning taken care of, nice grounds, and no cooking!
I agree with you. Sometimes renting apartments are hit or miss. Reggie's way, ppl are always around. Nice guy too
That's what I was wondering
It's actually a one bedroom apartment within the hotel. He has a kitchen and can cook when he wants to
Panama Relocation Tours Jackie, can you give us an estimate on what a rental
Ike this would cost? Thanks.
Jeremy from Jersey just subscribed
Thanks for subscribing!
Great interview! Where's the lovely location that this was filmed?
This video was filmed in Boquete where Reggie lives.
Hola from Chicago! Thank you for the insight. I’m trying to figure out how I can make the move to Panama before I’m eligible for retirement. I’m curious about the hotel where you live. What made you choose to live in a hotel and what are the accommodations like? I’d also be interested in knowing how much rent is there. Thank you again, hopefully I’ll be able to meet a fellow Chicagoan when I come for a visit.
Great Video! Is he staying in a hotel? It’s looks so beautiful can’t wait to go in 2021...God willing.
He is actually staying in a one bedroom apartment that is within a hotel complex.
@@PanamaRelocationTours How does that work? The apartment in the hotel, I mean? I noted Reginald said he was living in a hotel. I posted above about that--I am curious. I don't want to buy, but I want to live near Boquete in an affordable community on a small state pension.
@@PanamaRelocationTours can you elaborate more about this hotel. Maybe I could try something like this before buying. Can you guys advise me.
Working remotely sounds like a great option. I wonder if many companies offer remote work in Panama.
you'd want to work remotely for a US or Canadian company. Most Panamanian companies do not offer remote work
Hello Reggie; I am going to ask the haunted question. I am already here I need to know if my Medicare is valid. Thanks hope to meet someday.
Mr Reginald wondering how are you doing at this moment. Hoping you still enjoying beautiful Panama. Two years after this first video.
Sadly, Reggie passed away a few months ago.
May his soul Rest In Peace.
Seriously thinking about this move...too bad there are no tours due to the virus...I am a native of Chicago but living in Vegas...every thing is getting too expensive... Sooooo ?? Reginald you look so familiar!!!
We do have private tours available now. See details at panamarelocationtours.com/private-tours
Hi Reginald
Very nice open post.
However tia that the title was budget based , it would be nice to receive some $ values, especially as you are living in a hotel and eating out often etc ... The only costs you gave were the long distance cabs n buses...
Do you intend to stay in the hotel permanently or just temporary until rentals open up etc etc.
Any more info would be greatly welcome.
Enjoy
Thx
Glenn
the place where he stays has a FULL KITCHEN, it is an apartment. Three are plenty of rentals but he likes living where he is.
@@PanamaRelocationTours thats a great option of where to live that havent thought of.
I would like to see a video about how it is right now in panama with the restrictions. He did not talk about that. He said he takes a walk every day but you are only able to be out for two hours a day twice a week only. How are they dealing with that?
In most of Panama you can go out anytime between 5am and 7pm. So Reggie can easily walk around town every day, go to restaurants (for take out) or just sit at the park and do some people watching while eating lunch. Grocery stores, pharmacies, hardware stores and some coffee shops are open.
I m 64 and I have to find a part time job to complement my income here in Fl. I barely make to cover my mortgage. I want to come back but I understand Boquete is very expensive.
there are affordable places in Boquete too. You can rent a 1 bedroom furnished for $200-$400 a month.
This is probably the best video yet on this topic. But is he really living in a hotel? That can add up and be a lot more pricey than renting a house.
He was living in an APARTMENT in a hotel. But since this video was made, he relocated to a single family house in Boquete.
@@PanamaRelocationTours Is it safe for a single senior citizen to live alone in a single family house?

Hi Reggie. Thx 4 ur vlog. Do u ever see folks with limited mobility? Thinking about retiring where I could live on my SSDI. What do u think? Thx.🙂
Unfortunately, Panama is not handicap friendly to those with limited mobility.
@@PanamaRelocationTours I was wondering about that, too. I don't have limited mobility, just out of shape :-) but I wondered about hospitals, physical therapy, rehab, etc. for ageing populations retired in Panama. Thank you.
@@bluedog639 That there is, but the sidewalks are not always limited-mobility friendly and many stores aren't yet properly equipped. But there are great rehabs, hospitals, physical therapy, even yoga studios, you name it. And the price for those services are great. Great value.
How dose the banking system work?
I’m a US Combat Vet and would like to know is there VA access?
HI Richard There are no VA hospitals in Panama but there are MANY veteran benefits including free medical care if you qualify. See more details at panamarelocationtours.com/veterans-medical-benefits-in-panama
Panama Relocation Tours Thanks for the info and prompt response.
Great information
I’d like to know what hotel you are living at? I want to stay there when I come for 2 months.
Reggie is now renting a two bedroom house. You can find really great deals on airbnb for a two month stay
Can anyone tell me if foreigners, expats can own property or purchase homes?? Also Panama Relocation Tours have you considered doing walking tour videos of these cities?
anyone can own property in Panama. We have additional videos in our Online Panama Relocation Guide panamarelocationtours.com/guide
@@PanamaRelocationTours thanks you for answering. I appreciate it.
Foreigners can indeed own property in Panama. It just can be within 10 miles of the border. For that you'd either have to rent or become a citizen. But, obviously, most properties are not within 10 miles of any border, so you should be more than ok. Hope that helps.
What is the price range of the hotel that Reggie stays in?
Reggie was paying $750 a month for a one bedroom apartment at the hotel. Since this video he has moved to a different location and has two bedrooms now for the same price.
Panama Relocation Tours Wow! Outstanding!
Hello, Im Helen. How much do you pay rent living in a hotel. It's beautiful. What's the name of the hotel.
Reggie was paying $750 a month for a studio apartment. He now moved in to a 2 bedroom rental for $750 -furnished, all bills included
What hotel does he live at and what are the options for people who want to do that?
Many different hotels have suites with a kitchen, living room, and bedroom. It's usually much more affordable to NOT live in a hotel
@@PanamaRelocationTours I am thinking more about 6 mo at a time. Do you know his hotel because it looked interesting with the rooftop and I would like to get an idea on pricing to see if it makes sense....and the key is the internet quality.
@@PanamaRelocationTours ok but second request,,,what is the hotel he lives in? I like the six month approach like he has.
The hotel must be expensive...
The apartment at the hotel was $750 a month.
Panama Relocation Tours Thank you 👍🏽
What is the yearly temperature
average daytime temp is mid-70s
Sounds beautiful ❤️
Is there high speed internet?
Depends on locality. It can be expensive and slow or like I just had installed. I went from 3 mega to 1000 mega fiber optic from Cable and Wireless. Intro offer of $33/mo. Woohoo!!
@@NadaYoTengo Where is this available? My wife may continue part time work remotely if we relocate.
Yes!
Hi Reginal, I am curious, it seems like you may be single, i am considering a move down there and am wondering what social life is like related to meeting women for a single 64 year old man?
Lots of social activity with live music, volunteer opportunities church, theater, art classes, yoga, etc etc.
What about jobs?
Very hard for foreigners to get a job in Panama unless you speak fluent Spanish. Might be easier to start your own company.
A good source of income is buying properties you can rent out short or long term.
Do you get bored sometimes ? Friends and family to visit daily ?
Reggie has a LOT of friends in Panama. I doubt that he has time to get bored.
@@PanamaRelocationTours I am sure he has a lot of Panamanian friends , but High school friends, close friends and family are NOT the same because you can talk about common past experiences and neighbourhoods and familiar faces to chat with in English.
How come Reggie isnt responding to the questions.
@@kwtravels9065 It seems that PRT keeps a lock on communication, probably for business. I have asked for contact info of interviewees and gotten very polite no's.
