  • Strymon's Mobius was released in 2012 and since then has been widely regarded as one of the best modulation multi-effects. To still be at the top after 10 years you need to be doing a lot of things right. The Mobius certainly delivers on build quality, sound and ergonomics. Originally I thought it would be a somewhat boring but useful machine to cover generic modulation duties that weren't worth a separate dedicated pedal. But it turned out the Mobius does all the usual stuff extraordinarily well but then gives you all sorts of other interesting and experimental stuff on top.
    Here I go through all the global functions, common parameters and specific options for all 12 effect types, and program a sound for each one. For all of them I'm using the same bland single oscillator sound from the Rev-2. So this is not really a sound design tutorial, it's aim is to show the many and varied capabilities of the Mobius and give you the confidence to know and exploit its full power.
    Finally, I bought the Mobius at full price with my own money.

    Ong. I had my Mobius back in the box, and was ready to list it on Reverb. This tutorial saved me from a big mistake. I’d been afraid to mess with the settings, and didn’t understand them. Mobius is back on my board, and I love my new settings. Thank you. Thank you.

      It's satisfying when you can step right into a new machine knowing what to do. The anticipation is sweet.

    I learned a lot from this video and the one on the timeline. Can’t wait to see the final stryfecta Bigsky. Really appreciate the time and effort put into these vids. They really give you an in depth look at sound possibilities and the technical operations. Strymon should link these to their website. Many thanks. Well done!😊

      Thanks. And yes the midnight editions look beautiful. Pity there's not a way to just replace the case on old machines.

    Thanks for your awesome videos! I bought my LXR partially because you have such in depth tutorials on line. Now I’ll probably get this pedal, then the DB-01😳

    Thank you for this killer walkthrough. The aesthetics, sound design hints, and humor are invaluable!
    Your approach enabled me to stop just swimming through the presets and to start making the pedal my own. Each “A” version I make very “usable” so to speak and each “B” version I riff out and push to a unique place.
    Tomorrow I will follow your walkthrough of the Timeline as well.
    Gratitude!

    Funny how different preferences can be. That crackle sound us music to my ears.

      Cat shall mew and dog will have it's day :) Seriously though I tend not to put those sort of things into 'starter' sounds since I'm likely to forget it's there and then wonder on the final render what the weird crackling noise is!

    Thanks again for the nice and complete review Richard! (Funnily I have the Bigsky and Timeline, but not the Mobius 😅 For modulation effects I mainly use the Walrus Audio Julianna or Eventide H9, but must say that the Mobius is a great sounding pedal too 🤩)

      I bought the Mobius for the "usual" duties of chorus and rotary stuff but it turned out much weirder pedal than I was expecting. Stereo filter and quad can get some odd results.

    Ein sehr gutes Tutorial ! Und ich vermute dass Mobius mit der DB01 sehr schön harmonieren wird - und erst noch im passenden Partnerlook.🙂

      Sie haben Teil 2 vorausgesehen. Die Frage ist nur, welche Wirkung. Ich hatte zwar die Quadratur und den Zerstörer, aber bisher passen der Stereofiltereffekt und sogar der Formant am besten zusammen.

    Great walkthrough! Is that a REV2 patch you are using?

    • @RichardDeHove
      @RichardDeHove  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks. The Rev2 patch is just a completely non-modulated "flavorless" patch so it's clear what the Mobius was doing. In some ways it highlights that even the most primitive synth can do the job when it has a good partner box.

    is it possible to get the mobius fully wet?
    I have it on a parallel send in my synth setup
    and it still gets the dry through it.

    • @RichardDeHove
      @RichardDeHove  4 месяца назад

      It does go 100% wet with the depth knob although some engines have their own dry controls. For example the Filter engine has a dry amount (which you can switch off entirely) in the parameters. But perhaps it might have something to do with the pre-post or stereo selector on the back?

    • @DJRickDawson
      @DJRickDawson 4 месяца назад

      @@RichardDeHove i'll look at each algorithm/engine.
      would be nice for a global setting.
      nothing to do with the pre/post and I always have stereo going in/out
