Many thank!!~ This one video helped me out so much!! I agree with the other comments. This was the most clear, concise video on the topic and answered all my questions in under 10 min! I was able to make my first music video using GB! You must be the real Doc Watson to figure this out! 🎶🎤🎸🎹🎬
Fantastic I am 55 with Aspergers and have just purchased my first apple MacBook and I shall be studying your work Thank you very much I am very grateful for what you have done and I have subscribed Thank you from England
BRAVO Scott Watson! This is going to change my world, knowing that I can add all those real-time sounds to my short-films! I REALLY don't know why everyone is not shouting about this? Perhaps because everyone just starts with Final Cut or something like that. THANK YOU.... watch this space. 🏆
Amazing! I watch a LOT of RUclips tutorials and this by far is one of the best! Very well done. Clear, simple, to the point, and just ...done so cleanly. Looking forward to seeing your other videos!
I loved this. I was afraid that it would be very difficult to mix nice GarageBand audio with a video, but now I have a lot of tools to start right away.
thank you so much! i literally just found only out the movie tracks can be added into garageband :,) makes the whole sound design process easier, thank you!!
Not sure. There's too many variables I don't know about. For instance, did you use any volume automation? If so, you may have lowered the volume somewhere but not brought it back up.
so helpful! what if i wanted to edit the audio that is already in the video? the audio part shows a little lock symbol there, so does that mean i can't edit that audio?
You can edit the audio that imports with the video. However, you can't move the audio region earlier or later (left or right in the track) since it is LOCKED to the video, time-wise. A work-around if you want to move the audio region and further edit is to set up a new audio track, then OPTION-DRAG the original audio region to the new track, thereby copying it. EXCEPT the new audio won't be LOCKED!
Hey Scott, great vid👍🏻. What’s the best way to live record a song video and drop that into GarageBand on an ipad? If you can’t do this, are there any apps that you can use? I use a focusrite 2i2 3rd. Gen and record straight into camera roll (video). I want to use GarageBand but also produce the video of me playing live. Hope that makes sense. Cheers.
When I've done that (with students) I just shoot the video as I would normally, but I ALSO set up mics, via an interface, routed to GarageBand. This allows me to place the mics where I want them, and to add DSP plugins (EQ, compression, etc.) to the signal. I record BOTH ways in real time, then later I export the audio from GB and drop that in the video production software I use. That way, I get good video and good quality audio.
does anyone know how to remove the "movie" sidebar? i tried deleting the movie and the movie sidebar but the little "movie" sidebar still stays, i accidentally added new sidebars too, please help thanks
Can you tell me if there is anyway to trim, cut or delete specific thumbnails of a video in garageband? I watched you show how to work with the audio portion but sadly I cannot find anything regarding how to edit the video portion in garageband. Is this not an ability garageband has?
Video cannot be edited inside GaraheBand. If I need to do that, I edit the video outside of GB in an app like iMovie or Camtasia or FinalCut, then use the edited video in GB.
is there any possibility of moving thins film through the whole track... bcz i got many tracks one after the other but i wanna put the film somewhere in the middle. however when i put the film on the trackpad it automatically goes to the beginning and i can't move it alongside the other tracks
Have you used the TEMPO TRACK (Track --> Show Tempo Track)? In it, you can automate the tempo the same way you automate volume levels in a regular track.
I don't think you can edit the locked audio from an imported movie. But it's simple to create a NEW audio track and copy that audio into it. THEN it will be unlocked. BTW, a great shortcut for copying audio regions (from one track to another, or even in the same track) is OPTION-DRAG....try it!
Here's the steps: 1) Use a website such as keepvid.ch/en5/ or www.y2mate.com/en23 to download the video from RUclips to your computer. Save it somewhere you'll be able to locate it (I recommend Desktop). 2) Then, drag and drop the video into GarageBand's Track Window....that's it!
If you are saying that you opened a GarageBand doc on your computer (NOT iOS device...my video was for the OSX computer version of GarageBand) and tried to drag an MPEG (or QuickTime .MOV) movie into a BLANK area of the Track Window (and NOT a MIDI or Audio Track that already existed...but a BLANK area of the Track Window), then... ...there is something seriously wrong/corrupt with GarageBand on your computer. I've done exactly that (what I describe in my video) hundreds of times on all sorts of laptops and iMacs, over many different versions/releases of GarageBand, and it definitely works. Although it's a pain, you could go into your local Apple Store (hopefully there is one near you) and show them what you're trying to do and either: 1) they'll help you reinstall a new, uncorrupt version of GarageBand on your computer, OR 2) they'll be able to show you what you are doing wrong/differently than I described in the video. If it's something other than that, I'm stumped as to what it could be. PLEASE let me know what you find, OK? GOOD LUCK!!!
You would need to combine the videos in an app such as iMovie or Camtasia (including transitions, titles, etc.) then import that into GarageBand. See ruclips.net/video/j_e1-JGrFdA/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/6gpTnuEiWgo/видео.html
Absolutely. First you need to download the RUclips video, which you can do with tools such as the Firefox Add-on Firefox Video Download Add-on or any of the website-based tools for downloading vids (i.e. SaveFromNet). Download the vid as an MP4 to your desktop, then drag-and-drop the vid into then Track Window of GarageBand. GarageBand will separate the vid into a Movie Track (for video) and an Audio Track for audio. You can delete the audio track if you want, then set up your own audio track to record to use with the video. Unfortunately what you cannot do is separate the RUclips video's audio into lead vocal and background (accompaniment) tracks. However there is a plug-in "effect" in the free program Audacity that sometimes works for this.
When you drag-and-drop a standard video into GarageBand's Track Window, it should automatically give you the video in a video track (along the top) and the audio in a (locked) audio track. If you don't see the video track, go to the Track Menu and be sure that you've chosen Show Movie Track.
Before you watch the entire video hoping to find out how to define start and end point of the video you import: Forget it, this is not part of GarageBand.

You could have chosen any video in the world as an example and you chose Flash Gordon. Bravo.

This is amazing. I know it's kids stuff to a lot of people, but it's an "Aha Moment" for me.

You said come on over here Mickey, but you were supposed to say Minnie. I'm offended.
I know! And I didn't realize the mistake until long after it was posted. My profuse apologies!!

Hi would you know how to drag around that video for example if you want to have sound before the video starts ?
Unfortunately, the only option is to have the video start immediately.
What is a good resource to finding movie clips like the mickey mouse one you had?
Archive.org (known as The Internet Archives) is my go-to site!
shouldn't mickey be shouting "come on over here MINNIE?"
is there any possibility of moving thins film through the whole track... bcz i got many tracks one after the other but i wanna put the film somewhere in the middle. however when i put the film on the trackpad it automatically goes to the beginning and i can't move it alongside the other tracks
Unfortunately, GarageBand only allows for a single video to be imported, and only to the start of the project.
I'm desperate for figuring out how to change the tempo of the tracks but not affecting the video. How can I do that?
Have you used the TEMPO TRACK (Track --> Show Tempo Track)? In it, you can automate the tempo the same way you automate volume levels in a regular track.
@@ScottWatsonMusic ohh okay haven't tried that, I'll check it out. Thank you so much!!!

07:25 isnt she called minnie hehhe. Jokin aside great video, i was hopingyou could use video in garageband. Sweeeeeeeet.
I know...I blew it and didn't even realize it until after I had posted this. Good catch.
it is posible to divide and cut the video?
No. Any video editing has to be done outside of GarageBand in an app such as iMovie or Camtasia.
Is it possible to do this with youtube videos or iTunes songs

@@ScottWatsonMusic thank you for the help
How many video tracks can I have on Garageband?
There's no limit; the more RAM memory your computer has, the more tracks GarageBand will allow.
@@ScottWatsonMusic video tracks??
SO SORRY! I misread your question. GarageBand only allows for ONE video track.
@@ScottWatsonMusic got it! That sounds right.

You're right. It would be really be great if Apple would add that function to GarageBand.
It’s Minnie not Mickey
