This was awesome. Very clear and sound explanation of podcasting with GarageBand. My wife and I just merging into our podcast/radio show. Thank you Mr. Watson.
Scott, you are wonderful! I'm just starting out with my podcast and using Garageband, which is not very intuitive. I'm so glad I found your tutorial, now I can complete my first podcast and get started! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thanks Doc. I've been telling people I have a podcast which is... "currently in development"... for a few years now. It's been playing in a "theater within my mind"... I've used Apple for... 15 years now? I recently opened Garage Band... and to my astonishment I discovered, OMG, I could create and produce a podcast. I'm an avid Final Cut Pro user but never thought of Garage Band ??? I googled for tutorial video assistance and discovered this production. Thank you kindly. Great learning production.
This is an excellent tutorial on the basics of using GarageBand to create a podcast. One word of caution: When using music in any publicly available content such as a podcast, make sure you have the legal right to it's use. There are a variety of sources for royalty free music you can purchase at low cost (or use with permission) or are in the public domain. Public domain music can be tricky, so read the copyright information carefully. In this video, the music is apparently Scott's creation, so he can use it legally. Unless you want your podcast episode taken down or you want to be sued for potentially multiple thousands of dollars, never use any commercial music (e.g. AC/DC, Rolling Stones, etc.), even if it's only a few seconds of a song.
Very good point. And yes, there are lots of options for free public domain music (archive.org, GarageBand Jingles, etc.) as well as reasonably-priced library music (i.e. Epidemic Sound, etc.).
Wow! Thank you for this VERY clear and easy explanation. You are a very good teacher. I'll be looking at more of your videos. I usually dread trying to learn new software, but I think your videos will make it less painful. :)
Elementary My dear Dr Watson . Thank you for this . I've listened to so many Podcasts on this subject and yours is the first that does things at a pace and with a quiet unforced clarity so I can follow. Finally Ive made some progress, laying down a track and integrating some intro and out too music. Really appreciate it .
What a wonderful tutorial. Thank you so much. New subscriber and ironically I played the saxophone for 15 years and want to pick it up again so your music theory videos will help with that too.
I found this video very helpful!! Thanks so much! I have been having trouble with maintaining a proper level when recording. I use an m-audio interface, do you have any tips or advice for making sure I maintain proper level?
Keep your eyes on the VU meters and - if you know you’ll be using lots of tracks - set conservative levels to allow for the composite sound to still be within bounds.
No. Despite fooling around with GarageBand for iOS on my iPad here and there, I just find the desktop (Mac OSX) version of GarageBand so much more satisfying for producing anything. It's really a lite version of Logic these days. I do love the iOS GarageBand instrument emulations though and wish there was a way to have those in the desktop version of GarageBand. Sorry :(
In the Editor Window there is a PLAY button for each Region in the upper-left of the Region. When you click that, you just play that region. It's kind of like soloing a Track, but just for that Region.
I'm having trouble with recording through garageband and wanted to know if you do private tutorials. It's just for a podcast, so pretty simple :) Thank you, I appreciate your time.
What's going on? If it's not too niche I may want to address your issue in a video that can help others. Or if it's something I can walk you through easily I'm happy to try to help.
I use a handful, but my MAIN, "go to" SFX sites are: SoundBible - www.soundbible.com/ FreeSounds.org (login required) - www.freesound.org/browse/tags/sound-effects/ RUclips Sound Library - ruclips.net/user/audiolibrarysoundeffects Internet Archive - archive.org/details/audio?and%5B%5D=sound+effects&sin=
Are you using GarageBand on an iPad or iPhone? This video featured GarageBand on a Mac OSX computer (a very different program). Or maybe you are using an older version of the desktop garageBand, like GarageBand version 6. The current version of GarageBand is 10.x. To find out what version of GB you have: ruclips.net/video/uc65aoa9dmQ/видео.html

Hi Dr. Watson - this is the only video I've watched for how to create my podcast with GarageBand. I come back and watch this often. Thank you SO much.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent explanation, after watching 20 videos, none had ever been so clear, specific, and to the important things, thanks a lot from Mexico City.
Glad it helped and you're very welcome!
Outstanding tutorial -- nothing flashy, just good clean explanation.
Much appreciated!

Excellent...glad to help. Now go forth and podcast :)
Excuse me Scott, would you happen to have a video like this for the new 11 inch ipad pro?
Sorry :(
Great Video. Thanks. How can I play some seconds before and after a selected region? Or only play or listen to the selected Region? Thanks,
In the Editor Window there is a PLAY button for each Region in the upper-left of the Region. When you click that, you just play that region. It's kind of like soloing a Track, but just for that Region.
Wow, thank you for your video. That was amazing and easy to understand. I am now subscribe to your channel. Cheers.
Welcome aboard!

What's the website you got the sounds from?

Thanks. Is this the program you would recommend for a beginner?
Yes...absolutely.
@@ScottWatsonMusic actually I have windows laptop and android so I think I have to find someone else
