- In this video we'll explain how to do some audio editing basics such as cutting regions and adding volume automation.

For a high-quality USB Mic, I strongly recommend the Audio-Technica AT2020USB: amzn.to/35M0TWq
Another great USB mic is the Blue Microphones Snowball (used in this video): amzn.to/33xT6cg
Your instructions were very clear, concise and easy to follow and it's a bonus that your speaking voice is pleasant to listen to. It was exactly what I needed. Thank you Scott.
At last! A clear, concise instructional video for Garageband! Thank you Scott.
You're welcome Lucy!
I just started using Garage Band to transfer from cassette tapes I made to audio and had trouble editing until I viewed your very clear instructions.
Thank you Scott, That was just what I needed to know to get started on editing a little demo. I dragged several recordings of songs I had recorded in Garageband into different tracks in a new project and cut them, adjusted volume, cross faded from one to the next, added reverb and echo to the vocals. Lots of fun! Came out great. Tom
This is exactly the information I've been looking for. Thank you for making such an easy to follow video!
Very straightforward and helpful. Thanks Scott.
In less than 2 minutes I learned MORE about GB details than in my 3 weeks of studying so far! GREAT teacher!!! :)
Wow, thanks! Glad the video was helpful :)
@@ScottWatsonMusic It's TRUE. I was in education for a long time. I taught teachers to teach. I get it. YOU are one in a million! Thank you! Your one video saved me HOURS (or days) of troubleshooting!!! :)
Thank you! there were things I had already learned but new things which are very important!
You're so welcome!
I found your tutorial to be clean and clear. Thanks.
Glad it helped!
A very well detailed tutorial, Looking forward for more tutorials garageband
Wonderful. I have about 25 tutorials on various features of GarageBand :)
Thank you for making a truly basic editing video!
My pleasure!
thanks very much for the video, you're very helpful 💙
Like a pro! Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Thank You 😊
You're welcome 😊
Great, informative video, thank you. Quick question: Do you recommend a specific mouse for audio editing use on a Mac, or just any compatible mouse? Thanks!
I've seen pros using a trackball mouse since they do so much so fast, but folks like me who don't work with DAWs all day are fine with a regular consumer mouse.
so different from early version of Garageband but with more features. also
I imported my mp3 file and it's blue. How come?
On my Ipad the automation points won't move individually. I think I have an early version of Garageband or a simpler one for Ipad?
GarageBand for iPad (iOS) is a completely different program. I rarely (if ever) use it.
Just got a Mac - Great Video! Also what magnifier do you use? - i've seen several types this one in my opinion looks the best.
I use Camtasia to create my tutorial videos.
Is this tutorial still valid for the version of GarageBand within macOS Big Sur Version 11.3.1 ?
Short answer...YES. Not much except some graphic things (icons representing the tools now look more generic/plain).
it would have helped if the guy would explain why he is doing what he is doing - i have no idea what the purpose is of screwing around with this song
There are many reason why people in various roles would need to edit waveform audio, and add volume automation. I just got right to the "how" assuming you know the "why" if you're watching. I originally created this tutorial for students in my Music Production class. They needed to edit audio for songs, podcasts and video scoring activities they had to produce during the course.
Would you have any idea how to make that orange track blue?
Not directly. In an older version of GB you used to be able to do something like that, but now there is a work-around. You could export the track to disk alone (also known as "bounce to disk") as a stand-alone audio file, THEN drag-and-drop that audio file back into the first GB project. But that's a lot of hassle and I'm not sure what the advantage would be.
Cannot find the automation button, Anyone knows?
Yes! Apple eliminated that button in more recent updates for some strange reason. Just type the shortcut, A, to open automation.
@@ScottWatsonMusic Thank You 👍🏻
For future videos, please stop smacking your lips. Other than that... good job.
I know. I didn't even realize I was doing that, and I've tried to do less (or at least remove it in production) in newer videos....sorry.
