Well because the pixel 9 pro fold is the second generation of the line up so putting the 9 in the name is nonsensical where as the iPhone 16 pro max is the 16 generation it just makes sense

Brilliant as ever Mark. Benchmarks are about as important as the packaging the phone came in. It's all about the user experience, build quality and usefulness in both folded and unfolded modes. Google has made unparalleled improvements between their foldable phones in just two iterations. No disrespect to Chinese variants which are amazing - Google OS and 7 years of software & AI updates from the origin of Android and Gemini AI do give it the edge. The generous 16GB of RAM (which you will never exhaust) is a nod to the future proofing of the device.

P9P Fold is going back to the store tomorrow. I can hear a kind of creaking when I open it and it just doesn’t feel as premium as the Z Fold 6. I can really feel the extra weight too. It does fold completely flat though…the Z Fold 6 is something like 178 degrees which is annoying. The rounded corners are pretty nice too. Unsure why they went so large with the camera cut-outs. The hinge and bezel of the P9P Fold are still too big for my liking.

It's a shame Google didn't give the 5x camera in the Fold the same 48 megapixel sensor that's in the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL. I think if they're charging £1749, you should expect the flagship camera set up.

I own the original Pixel Fold, and there’s no compelling reason for me to upgrade, especially since I prefer the “book” design of the original. The cameras are the same; as you mentioned, the performance upgrade is minimal. The Tensor 2 chip has been replaced with the Tensor 4 chip, both of which are Samsung-made 4nm processors. I managed to get a great deal on my Pixel Fold, but unfortunately, Google has discontinued these deals (for instance, no longer offering a free watch). Therefore, paying £1800 to upgrade would be foolish. Unless you’re incredibly wealthy, it’s best to wait for the Pixel Fold 10, which will feature a new Google chip manufactured by TSMC.
The defence of the mid-range chip in an £1800 phone is not valid. Of course, we all would prefer the Tensor 4 to be as powerful as the upcoming A18 Pro simply for the sake of future-proofing. I put up with it as I am a Pixel fan, but I will not defend it.

Buy to pick up a pixel phone charging stand for my mother's pixel nine pro XL and I played around with the pixel nine pro fold on display. So I put the unlocked version, add my z fold six, we'll get put on the shelf, I personally like what they're offering. Don't last that long alongside security updates and most of those Chinese foldables only give you two and that is a concern. So in that sector Google outshines them with their foldable.
