if you're watching this in 2018, use the ' key (not the backtick ` key in the annotations) to cut off the note. can be changed in the keyboard shortcuts under note column > cut off note
Hey. Thank you for the great tutorial! One thing I didn't understand how you did it, At 8:30 you were able to hold out the note of the instrument. You must of used a hotkey because I didn't see you click anything. Can you please tell me how to hold out a note? Thank you
jerrrrr So here is what I did, please tell me if it is right or not. I went to the samples section. "Loop" was on, but "Sustain Loop" was off, so I turned that on. Then I went back to patterns, plugged in my note in line "0", and in line "2", when I wanted it to stop, I double clicked the line and selected the effect type "Note Cut". It works, but I don't think that is what you did.
I'm missing the colors tab you mention at 1:41. Do you know why? -Nevermind; it was under a tab labelled "Display"; that should have been obvious, but I wasn't paying attention, lol.
MIDI tab don't worry about it? I came here for that. My USB O2 shows up and notes register in the Patterns tab of the main display though so I guess it's working. I really just want to make any tunes at all with my USB MIDI keyboard and this ridiculously complex program.
You don't make much Videos. Not even saying thats bad. But when you upload something, its something that is really worth to watch. Good Job Jeeves! :D Btw. why did you changed your name?
A couple years ago, I started to feel that the number "476" didn't mean much anymore. The number came from the last three digits of an old ID I had from from way back in grade school. I've been contemplating on making a new screen name since then. Around the same time, I randomly tried getting an Xbox gamertag of the same name. Nope, "Jeeves476" was already taken. (I don't own, let alone regularly play, an Xbox anyway.) But that was a very minor reason for a name change. Another reason was that college changes you as a person. If I met myself from 5 years ago, I'd have trouble recognizing me at first. But 2009-me would know I'm still fundamentally the same guy. I'd explain that later if you'd like. For a long while I was like "You know, if I had a new screenname, it's gonna have a 'V' and an 'E' in it somewhere." Coincidentally, in that same time period was when Google+ was being phased in into RUclips, along with the confusion of real names and pseudonyms and stuff. I presented myself a challenge: think of a new screenname without digits in it. What made it even harder is that I'm horrible at coming up with names. So I sat in the bathroom one day and focused all my mental energy into thinking of a new name. 45 minutes later, there it is. Y_VE_Squared, or "Y_" for short. Origin of the name is where it gets geeky: mathematical equations that say "one half (blah) (bleh) squared." For example: kinetic energy is "1/2 mv^2". So I've basically combined my IRL name with an equation. There's something really metaphorical about this. Something about a part of me being constant and another part being a variable that changes over time. I'm still completely fine with being called "Jeeves476". I don't expect anyone to immediately remember a new name if I can't do that myself. lol
MPT, FamiTracker et al could really use an option for re-skinning... Trackers used to look awesome (FastTracker 2, Octamed 4 etc...) Can we bring that aesthetic back? Please? ;-) 😅💙👍
okay so i understand 99% of this tutorial, but yet i have no clue how you manipulated the wav sounds to get the instrument you use starting at at 10:21??? is that made using the square.wav? how do you make the sound flutter like that?
This is amazing! thank you! any suggestions to someone completely new to music and editing to take the next step from this video? like idk what im doing still idk what sounds i want or where im going.
Maybe I should put those files into Dropbox and have them shared. I'll have them up (and other files) when I get the chance. I'll update the video's annotations after that.
+Y_VE_Squared Thank you for sharing these samples with us, but how would we generate our own samples like these if we want to make everything from scratch?
+Vega Addendum: I messed around with the sample editor to make my own but it sounds buzzy and nasty when I use it as an instrument compared to the square.wav file you provided. If you could explore the creation of good sound samples from scratch I would really appreciate it!
Thanks so much for this helpful tutorial! I have a noob question: can I export an .it file as a .mod? Or do I need to start a MOD file to save only as a .mod?
it might be a compatibility issue because it and mod works differently and mpt uses different configuration to work with compatibility. So maybe you can, but needs some expertise to do it
