"I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor,...and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn't quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet." Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar
Urgh, this one hits me particulary hard. Tried out lots of things, came quite far in a lot of them but life intervented and I had to drop them, telling myself for quit the time being. Fast forward a few years to today, now free from my issues, I'm unable to decide which of my projects I should pick up again. I want to do them all somehow, but I can't since I have lost most of my skills/progress and it's driving me nuts. So I'm like that donkey, torturing myself because I can't sort out my feelings (yet I hope) and make a decision.
Pick the most rewarding - to gain momentum.., and FOCUS on it. You might be slow at the beginning, but eventually - hopefully - you will remember everything, and speed things. When we stop PROJECTS, and return to them later, we r usually more mature, we ve added more experiences and learnt other skills that might make us see our Projects from another and better angle... Best of luck.. don't lose faith in urself & FOCUS !! P.S find the ONE Thing Book
What would choose a person I strive to become? That's a question I ask myself when feeling indecisive. I agree if we make a wrong choice, it's often possible to change it in the future. Yet, going for suitable one from the start is a better option anyway. Just pay a little more attention to yourself rather than looking for an always-working life algorithm
Because I fast for up to 42 hours occasionally--full fast, nothing at all ingested in the time I'm doing it--I always choose to have a glass of water once the fast ends, then have a cup of coffee following that. After that, I can decide what to eat, but until the thirst is taken care of, the hunger doesn't mean a thing.
Joyce Blodgett Totally agree. We can survive much longer without food than without water. Brain would function better once rehydrated and make better decisions too 😉💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦
Thank you so much! That totally is what I need to hear every once in a while because I really tend to overthink almost everything... Thank you for your great content!!
I made very poor decisions about what to study in college and my initial career choice. Forty years later, those bad decisions taught me much. Now I'm doing something different, something better. At least I made a decision back then and could focus my effort. Of course, NOW making wrong decisions would be devastating. But now that I'm older, I should be making better decisions. Bottom line, absolutes can provide insight, but rarely are they all encompassing.
"The worst thing that could happen is that you learn something new about yourself": "Yes sir, the house you invested in burned down and you will have to declare bankruptcy" "Aww man i guess real estate just isnt for me, can i get another loan for an online store?"
@@alisami3704 not bad luck tho That's what really happens in real life. Story was beautiful and analysis shouldn't be paralysis but example here was bad. "Don't be afraid to make the wrong choice." Well, I say, be informed/do research, think about the consequences then decide! Like, you can't just decide irrationally like try hard drugs and "see what happens" when u already know it's bad for you. There are some choices that can hunt u for life, man.
I remember from school the famous book by Thomas Hardy 'The Mayor of Casterbridge'. It was about a man who kept trying and failing. Interesting read but as kids we all couldn't understand why he started to give up? The teacher tried to explain that he was growing tired of the hamster wheel. He was probably in his forties trying to teach the mental exhaustion of repeated failure and responsibilities in middle age to a bunch of pre-teens whose biggest worries in life were acne and discovering the prequel to puberty.
WOW. This is actually helpful advice to me. I nostalgically think I wish I knew then what I know now. I got helped by many older people when I was young, but attracted people who meant me harm, wanted to hold me back. I wish I'd listened to the right people. Plus it's painful when I witness younger people doing similar. Getting older lets you see history repeat itself, a wisdom only long living brings. Today in UK the headlines are about nearly 40 Chinese people found dead from suffocation in the back of a lorry. There was a near identical tragedy some decades back. Their deaths were unnecessary. There was an air vent in the cargo hold where the desperate people were sent to. The driver though generally closed the vent. When they went in it was open. But before setting off out of habit the driver closed it. The contempt for the human cargo as sickening as trying to think of the distress inside, and of the one survivor who apparently lived from eating tomatoes. I've worked out why but am already aware this is the wrong place to post this.
Try to focus on all the good things in your life for just 1 week and be happy as you are. Take a vacation from worrie for a while :) This recently helped me and hopefully for u too
If only life was really that easy. Having that amount of time left to live doesn't mean you have that amount of time to chase your goals. Mental capacity and physical fitness will have problems coming with age. Not to mention a lot of goals require a lot of money, stopping half way when you realize you don't like something and then chasing another goal might require deep pockets and big wallets.

May I ask: how are you so wise? Is it only your life experience? What inspired you to help people with your content? I find it very useful to watch/ listen to your videos when I have free capacity. You always say something that I would never think of.
If after one year trading stocks you are broke, you will not have the money for buying real estate. That's the reason why deciding can be more difficult than you put it. It's also the reasonwhy starting rich makes it so much easier for wealthy people to be successful (besides of the connections, education and so on).
Also it's not only financial restraints but also social and biological ones. If you chose the wrong major and progress in that path too long and change then, you might get surpassed by younger colleagues that chose earlier and stuck to their career. I'm not saying you should continue in something that makes you unhappy, but rather chose as best as possible by weighing in the pros and cons. If going back to the donkey: If he had not just thought about his twoneeds but weighed them, then he would have realized, that one dies quicker of dehydration than starvation.
My doubt is ....the beginning examples were like career options, opting major etc.. but the example explained is about secondary sources of income which we can shift any time. but in things like career options, we cannot shift from one to another that much easily right.?
I generally agree with this video, but it seems geared more towards young people. They are the ones who have the luxury of time to go back to the drawing board in the wake of a bad decision. Not so with people in their 50’s, like me.

Just realized this a few days ago. I was a donkey for a year. And finally, after I had realized my mistake RUclips decided to recommend me this video.
It looks like youtube knows exactly what I want to see, I am struggling to choose between animation as career or just going with science in college, and youtube showed me this 😙.
This video has helped me immensely...being a dreamer who constantly generates new ideas, ive always had trouble choosing a path, but this video makes sense. Thanks, you've got new loyal subscriber.
I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet."
Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar
Urgh, this one hits me particulary hard. Tried out lots of things, came quite far in a lot of them but life intervented and I had to drop them, telling myself for quit the time being. Fast forward a few years to today, now free from my issues, I'm unable to decide which of my projects I should pick up again. I want to do them all somehow, but I can't since I have lost most of my skills/progress and it's driving me nuts.
So I'm like that donkey, torturing myself because I can't sort out my feelings (yet I hope) and make a decision.
Being aware of the issue is half the battle :)

This is exactly what I need right now.
An old Sanskrit proverb "Sanshayatma vinashyati" The hesitant person is devastated
Brain would function better once rehydrated and make better decisions too 😉💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦
I'm a Donkey , I need to change
Thank you so much! That totally is what I need to hear every once in a while because I really tend to overthink almost everything... Thank you for your great content!!
B B B But....... there are decisions that can’t be undone or where you can’t choose both
I made very poor decisions about what to study in college and my initial career choice.
Thank you sir for making me not be afraid of making some important decisions
If only I had to choose between water and hay..
If you started something and failed at it, you didn’t waste time because at least you learned something.
"The worst thing that could happen is that you learn something new about yourself":
"Yes sir, the house you invested in burned down and you will have to declare bankruptcy"
"Aww man i guess real estate just isnt for me, can i get another loan for an online store?"
Thats just pure bad luck .
Yea and you still be owing the bank for years to come for the house u dont own
@@alisami3704 not bad luck tho
That's what really happens in real life.
Story was beautiful and analysis shouldn't be paralysis but example here was bad.
Investment from poor people isn't like investment from rich guys.
If poor guys lose money, they will go to the point that he can't even stand again while rich lose money, he can invest on different project again so he will take back all money he wasted.
@Fire Within "I'm sorry sir, this fire was caused by vandalism and our insurance doesn't cover that, you will not receive any financial compensations for this"
@Fire Within most insurance companies want the money not the bills, acts of god, war, terrorism, civil unrest, etc are not covered (basically the things that are assured to cause damage), including events where you were involved, e.g. trying to defend your house from vandals causes the vandals to damage the house, then you pay you should have not got involved, well, maybe if you are rich, I believe the towers guy did get a nice payout
Thank you so much. Excellent video.
Trying is better than regretting it later.
And what if I decide and none of my decisions makes me happy... I've tried like 4 changes so far and I only feel empty, tired and hopeless
Try to focus on all the good things in your life for just 1 week and be happy as you are.
Take a vacation from worrie for a while :)
This recently helped me and hopefully for u too
Choose Jesus. He satisfies all your needs and emptiness
What is my personal purpose here on earth?
@@Giveintolove94 Your mom did it for me.
@@Giveintolove94 OMG!!!!
Try and fail costs a lot ! Time, money, power. Finally, will be disappointed.
An analogy for this: you don't know if you will like a cherry untill you eat it and if you don't like it then don't eat it again
Thanks fir this video. I was having difficulty making decisions lately and searched for an answer and i found this video.
there are some choice that cant be changed. You live with it.
I've been such a donkey. Thank you! best video for me right now
I like how this is in disregard to masculinity, rather it's a 'person' skill.
This is amazing
If only life was really that easy. Having that amount of time left to live doesn't mean you have that amount of time to chase your goals. Mental capacity and physical fitness will have problems coming with age. Not to mention a lot of goals require a lot of money, stopping half way when you realize you don't like something and then chasing another goal might require deep pockets and big wallets.
Watch the Small Step Video , Which leads massive Result.
Whatever if you have time You can Grow from Scratch to Wow by Compounding
Like to see the positives then 😒
Thank you so much! You are the life changer... I thought about this but never got this good and short conclusion
" We ll almost never ve ALL the info we need to make the perfect decision.
However we must do our best to find out what we can, and then just pick ONE Thing.
Commit to that ONE Thing for a longer period of time.. ( e.g. a year ) "
I'm glad I just decided to pick one of those recommended videos and watch it.
You just nailed the most complex/greedy thing with one strike. Stick to one Rabbit. Awesome. Thank you.
All aplicable till ween try to decide on marriage, no backing out.
I'm glad i came across this, i didn't realise but i overthink every decision, even going to the beach for 2 hours i overthink/Analyse.
I love your videos! Thank you for sharing them with us! ☺️💛
Thanks for watching!
Day before yesterday I decided I wanted to move to a hillstn and start farming. Then someone actually took me seriously and I backed off saying I wasn't sure. Taking g action is so scary.
Fantastic video👏
There is some problem that it was a permanent choices, so its not relatable to that donkey analogy, just be wise
4Head
agree
To be or not to be a donkey, now, I got a new decision to make.
2:15 he sounds like Dora the Explorer 😂
this video opened my eyes..
I'm also indecisive in everything..
I forgot that we have time.. even though I was thinking that I don't got enough time..
fkn hell..
I have also failed miserably trying more than one thing at a time.but have gained lot of knowledge.I wish I could have seen this video earlier and saved my time.Thank lot for this informative video
Thank You for a short motivational video clip!💞❤
At least the donkey stood up for his decision -- NOT to decide. If in donkey doubt - don't.
Good concept
Well if my Florida Reemployment money would come through I will make a decision in a flat second! 😠
May I ask: how are you so wise? Is it only your life experience? What inspired you to help people with your content?
I find it very useful to watch/ listen to your videos when I have free capacity. You always say something that I would never think of.
Lol most of what he says can be read online. The concepts are simple and sometimes superficial.
'It could have been better' is an illusion!
Amazing video. Thank you for breaking down such a stressful topic ♡
I generally agree with this video, but it seems geared more towards young people. They are the ones who have the luxury of time to go back to the drawing board in the wake of a bad decision. Not so with people in their 50’s, like me.
This is one of best videos I have ever seen. Thank you very much for enlighten us. By the way,
1. 03:40 it doesn't apply on Elon Musk. Lol
2. I am Donkey.
3. I think career choice is the most difficult one specially when you are poor.
4. Men don't have choices for date, girls do.
5. Why Always Donkey have their asses on risks?
