I know I can just switch to Pure Video, but I want to set the ISO low enough to where I can see when I need to do so when the screen is dark. I can't see the noise on the screen so it's hard to know when to switch.
Yes, I do see noise sometimes, more on the Action 5 Pro than the Ace Pro 2, but I think DJI really raised the levels on the OA5 to get it so bright, so maybe that's why.
@@boomambuz4469 if you're taking it in the water without a dive housing, ace pro 2. The usb-c door on the action 5 is flimsy. I've heard no issues but it just doesn't inspire confidence. I would like to see their log profile improved, but apart from that, it's perfect. I'm sure in the future Insta360 will introduce 10-bit, but looking at the images, 8-bit and 10-bit on these little guys is almost impossible to differentiate. Good job as always. 😀 A question about the detail. Before the second run, you stand under the sign "Tattoo" DJI Shows it light and equal Ace pro is darker and the first letter is very dark. Which of them was closer to reality, is the result from DJI "made up" in software?
I would say in terms of colour and light representation the Ace Pro 2 is closer to reality. The Action 5 Pro constantly changes the white balance of light sources in low light, whereas the Ace Pro 2 reproduces them in a much more realistic manner.
In my opinion whilst the Ace Pro 2 is an excellent camera, it does need work on it's log profile to de-process it, so until that happens I won't be comparing the logs profiles on them, especially not at night.

Japan, oh wow, I'd love to go there! Lights, tech, it'll be awesome. I think either will be good, but I personally use the Ace Pro 2 mostly due to the big screen and the fact it's good day and night without any editing. The Pocket 3 is excellent, but I do not like it as a vlog camera as I am constantly using it and hiding it in my pocket and I worry I will break the gimbal, it's so delicate, so I use that only for more "cinematic" controlled shots.
nice! nice comparison... helps a lot for those like me who's still on the choosing stage.. hahaha! I do have GoPro cams, but I need a cam for my night rides, and low lights... and also on a budget.. thanks! 🤘🤘🤘
Well, if it's low light, and especially night rides, the Ace Pro 2, it's low light and screen make it a great ride cam. The fact the screen tilts up means you can easily see and control what you're filming.
@@PhillipSkraba I have watched from another review that the Ace Pro 2 got some audio issues on it's mic... like it's not picking up audio on both channels.. have you experienced it?
@PhillipSkraba oh okay, that's good to know.... thanks. Now the only issue I have is currently it's out of stock in most retailers in my place... hahaha!
That really depends on what you're doing. If you need D-Log M 10-bit to grade, then the DJI, if you want something that looks good straight out of camera, day and night, the Insta360. At the end of the day, they both do a superb job.
Well, both cameras are good for daily use, Action 5 Pro is ideal compact, bit more off color and softer than ace pro but dji should really be able to fix it through firmware, they need to add more colors. Ace Pro 2 is edge ahead in lowlight and also in daylight because it's more vibrant and Action 5 pro again more softer. For long vacation A5 Pro is perfect choice because of long battery life and excellent audio with mic2 via Bluetooth is very nice setup. For professional use 10bit colors do perfect job. While Ace pro 2 is bit bigger, excellent image quality and more powerful, but not much ideal for longer vacation for those who really keep recording. Thanks for the nice video.
in case the battery or long lasting power, then, i dont think anyone would go on such long vacay with out consideration of a power back (hub + 2 batteries Extra)
@TechTalksWithArmani thanks for sharing your finding mate. and am sharing a work around or solution. The main objective is that the camera performs well ( qualities of images ) Peace ✌️
Looks like you're gonna have to do us all again a favor and compare low light modes for both again and maybe daylight too. AP2s newest firmware just dropped out of the oven. Everything about this firmware is "improved image quality" I'd like to see that.
@PhillipSkraba lol. Yeah they definitely just wanna see you run in cold again holding 2 cameras. But thanks for doing it so we don't have to when it comes to deciding which camera we'd rather buy. You and a few others are the unsung heroes of the action camera world.
I can't tell what the firmware did, and ultimately action cams still aren't very good in low light when you get down to it, now matter how much software processing you do to them, you can't escape the limitations of physics, ie- the sensor size. It would seem that the 1 inch sensor cameras are the base size for decent low light, and anything smaller just doesn't quite cut it... For instance, the Sony RX0ii has a 1 inch sensor, and although it isn't technically an action cam, it still handles low light situations way better than anything else in it's size category. The only other obvious cam that can match it is the osmo pocket 3 for the same reason - 1 inch sensor. I guess I say all that because I tend to ride a bike primarily at night in NYC, and these "action cams" would more than likely struggle. Whereas, the Osmo pocket 3 isnt as durable/weather proof. SO my only real option is the Sony RX0ii apparently. Which has it's own limitations, due to it's age, but at least looks half way decent at night time, without all the crazy artifacts the rest of the action cams/smartphones seem to all possess
I think the bottom line is these cameras aren't made for low light, but thankfully, if needed, both these companies have worked on options for making that happen.
@PhillipSkraba ya for sure. I mean they're way better in low light than any other action cams previous, that's for sure. I'm just personally hoping they'll all start adopting the 1 inch sensors as a norm, sooner than later. Also it feels like every camera that comes out moving forward should automatically come with 10 bit if you ask me. There aren't enough 1 inch sensor, 10 bit cameras that exist, yet the latest iPhones and the pocket 3 has it
I'm sure they will, I guess they're just working on overheating issues, as well as how well a 1 inch sensor can handle a hit, being that these are action cameras, they need to be able to take a smack against a rock.
@@PhillipSkraba Word up! I mean, not to beat a dead horse, but the Sony RX0 ii had a lot of things right, including durability/shock proofness. I can only imagine with all the technological camera advancements that have been made in the last several years, that someone will be able to figure out some creative solutions. We can't be too far away
It does feel warm, but only when compared to the DJI. To be honest I don't really notice any colour balance problems on either of them when I'm using just them, you'll only notice it when you compare them, that's just how your mind works.
I think the opposite. I think the less saturated, cooler Action 5 Pro image shows better detail, like inside that shop near the beginning of the video.
I can’t help myself but I really don’t like the Ace Pro 2 look. It’s unnatural oversharpend and oversaturated. I know how an European city with Christmas decorations look but the Ace Pro 2 converts that to a dreamy, fairytale look that is unrealistic. I know people like it when their own life looks more interesting than it really is but I don’t like it. DJI all the way!
The Ace Pro 2 was actually pretty similar to reality here, but yes, when placed next to the Action 5 Pro it does seem to hold more saturation and clarity. Both do well, but my question always goes back to - who in the world uses an action camera at night, and how often? I know I don't.
It's a personal choice, everyone seems to choose one or the other. I would like DJI to do something with their white balance though, much like I'd like Insta360 to do something with their log profile.
@@PhillipSkraba Definitely personal choice, yes. I tend not to use AWB. I let the camera decide and then switch it to manual to keep it constant during that shoot.
I'd say both are very good in low light, and they both destroy GoPro in low light, which is a shame as I have a warm place in my heart for GoPro cameras.
*I wish I could get ace pro 2 in action 5 pro's body... It's hard to beat insta350 in low light, but the size of the camera is too big for an action camera for me... Ace pro 2's Colors, detail and stability all are better than action 5 pro...*
haha, I've heard that before! I don't mind the size, as I usually work with much bigger cameras, and I really love the big screen on the Ace Pro 2, but on the other hand the Action 5 Pro is pretty small, and has a tiny front screen with 10-bit, so it's all about your personal choice and what suites you best.
I'd be surprised if anyone even noticed the difference between 8 and 10 bit. I think DJI raised the levels in the latest update and it's quite bright now in low light, a little too bright maybe if you think it's hazy.
Hey Phil, nice video, always great to see you run with the red building in the background! =D Yesterday i tried the supernight mode in 4k60 on the Action 5 Pro, thinking it would be worse, because a higher frame rate would leave less time for the sensor to gather light for each frame. However, although the image was slightly darker, the jitters were ver much reduced. It was a quick test, so i still have to propperly try it again, but looked promising. Unfortunatelly, moving with the Action 5 pro, still induces a lot of jitter while on 4k25, at least thats my experience with, and can be seen here: ruclips.net/video/mJ-SSODWe9k/видео.html Also while cycling, and when the sun sets, even using supernight 4k25, the image is very shaky and grainy, so, no fun at all in low light if one wants to do some sort of movement.

@@ICE329 no never, in fact all the audio here was from the Ace Pro 2.
@PhillipSkraba oh okay, that's good to know.... thanks. Now the only issue I have is currently it's out of stock in most retailers in my place... hahaha!
Whitch one is bether for you action 5 pro oder ace pro 2?
@khodorALB I tried both cameras, thats what I found
@TechTalksWithArmani thanks for sharing your finding mate. and am sharing a work around or solution. The main objective is that the camera performs well ( qualities of images )
Peace ✌️
@khodorALB correct
Both Nice
Both are good.
Looks like you're gonna have to do us all again a favor and compare low light modes for both again and maybe daylight too. AP2s newest firmware just dropped out of the oven. Everything about this firmware is "improved image quality" I'd like to see that.
Son of a...!! I had zero word on this. Thanks Insta, thanks a bunch! They just want to see me run more, that's the truth!
@PhillipSkraba lol. Yeah they definitely just wanna see you run in cold again holding 2 cameras. But thanks for doing it so we don't have to when it comes to deciding which camera we'd rather buy. You and a few others are the unsung heroes of the action camera world.
Editing it right now, thanks for the heads up, it's more than I got from Insta360!
@@PhillipSkraba you're welcome! I just checked and it was there. So yeah! Lol.
@@lemdemar6054 5 mins and it'll be live!
Black point/ contrast needs sorting on the OA5
In low light it seems like it's been specially lifted in the latest firmware, at least that's what I'm feeling.
@ agreed, wonder what it’s like in log
They are both doing low light very well. As you pointed out the Ace is more color accurate. The DJI leans blue. Maybe that can be compensated for.
I'm sure if we set it to 5600K then the colours will be more natural, but the AWB likes to cool things down on the DJI.
terimakasih infonya. jadi punya gambaran
Thanks!
In this video, i prefer the Insta360 Ace Pro2!
It’s interesting to hear everyone’s opinions, it did very well.
AP2 clear winner .. more clear ,bright and detailed picture..I just wish it had less red.
It does feel warm, but only when compared to the DJI. To be honest I don't really notice any colour balance problems on either of them when I'm using just them, you'll only notice it when you compare them, that's just how your mind works.
Yes, you are so right about this. Maybe i am influenced by the ace pro 1 which I already use...
I think the opposite. I think the less saturated, cooler Action 5 Pro image shows better detail, like inside that shop near the beginning of the video.
It's really small details, and it depends which one you prefer, because as cameras, they both do a stunning job.
@ it’s nice to have it but yes I agree, I don’t use my action cams in low light.
Ace pro got my vote
Good to hear!
Insta 360 ACE Pro 2 win 🎉
It’s doing very well!
ACCE PRO 2 way better.
It does a good job.
I still prefer the Action 5 Pro's cooler and less saturated image.
As of January 2025, what would you choose?
Insta360 Ace Pro 2, it's the one I always reach for, unless you're looking for 10-bit log, then sure, the Action 5 Pro.
wow the ACe pro 2 is so so noisy but they are competing to each other so close
Noisy? I can’t see much noise to be honest. Yes, getting closer and closer.
If you look at faces the ace pro just uses more saturation and sharpening then the dji
It does seem like it is a little more clear, maybe it's just got a higher contrast setting.
All the DJI fan bois are funny. Not even close. Ace Pro kills the low light detail.
Why DJI video look's hazy and washed out and lack of details?
The only downside for insta AP2 seems to be the 8 bit colour.
I'd be surprised if anyone even noticed the difference between 8 and 10 bit. I think DJI raised the levels in the latest update and it's quite bright now in low light, a little too bright maybe if you think it's hazy.
Insta wins again even with the original FW
It does a superb job, yes!
Hey Phil, nice video, always great to see you run with the red building in the background! =D
Yesterday i tried the supernight mode in 4k60 on the Action 5 Pro, thinking it would be worse, because a higher frame rate would leave less time for the sensor to gather light for each frame.
However, although the image was slightly darker, the jitters were ver much reduced. It was a quick test, so i still have to propperly try it again, but looked promising.
Unfortunatelly, moving with the Action 5 pro, still induces a lot of jitter while on 4k25, at least thats my experience with, and can be seen here:
ruclips.net/video/mJ-SSODWe9k/видео.html
Also while cycling, and when the sun sets, even using supernight 4k25, the image is very shaky and grainy, so, no fun at all in low light if one wants to do some sort of movement.
Dji is good for the pro.
It had to add that pro to the name, yep.
Ace pro is winner 🏆
I’ve heard this before!
Skin tone is better in DJI
I think they both have pretty good skin tones.
Tym razem wygrała ace 2 pro. Do dziś uznawałem dji action 5 za lepszą...
Ace Pro 2 robi dobra robote!
Ace Pro 2..have a issue fogging lens..haha what a cheap..😂😂😂
It does? Funnily enough, neither I, nor any of my friends have that problem, does yours?
Ace Pro2は不自然。
Ace pro winner 🏆
It does a good job!
