“ Are you flirting, or are you just sexy by nature?”
That one line just summed up this whole show.
Ha, yes this!
"Noe who hurt you!?" My brother in christ his first boyfriend got his head cut off by his teacher
Nah fr man, he was also in the damn slave market as a kid, like some leniency would be nice
Off topic but love your Yoshida pfp

At this point, who hasn't hurt Noe?
That's rough buddy
Noe laying in bed kicking his feet as a montage of vanitas plays in his head....i cant do this shit anymore
He’s so real for that though because I be doing that on the daily

Fun fact: in manga the reason Dominique thinks she can't give the valuable advice on how to make Vanitas hate Jeanne is because she only ever romanced women because all the men get scared off by her big sister! (Chapter 20, for the curious! Also chapter 6, for reasons.)
This is the best info I’ve ever gotten to confirm she’s bi

The fact that consent is such a big vibe in the storyline, and that we know vampire biting as a reference to penetration ya know ya know you get it. Anyways. Ruthven biting noe without his consent, revealing that he was supposed to kill him but chose not to, and also putting that curse on him? The subtext of assault and control and the lack of it is so interesting. Also domi and jeanne and noe and vanitas are all gay for eachother
I feel like the show is kind of pick and choosing what sucking to actually take as assault / seriously or not or is that just me
@@inkonmerry different situations different contexts and different nuances change the scenes. Regardless of if you think this is referenced as an intimate assault, it's at least a physical one. This one is also quite clear about lack of control and agency in the situation, while also paralleled by vanitas and jeanne and their blood drinking going on in the episode. The way Ruthven covers noes mouth, tilts his chin up and puts a cursed collar on him is too much subtext to ignore for this scene either. I feel like it discredits the story to try and put a simple "this is what is trying to be said" for every blood drinking scene. It all requires critical eye and analysis of situation and what might be trying to come across as subtext. I hope my tone doesn't come across as mean or smth btw! Just sharing my thoughts!
Very brave of this show to introduce a love square. Jeanne x Domi x Noe x Vanitas x Jeanne
Also interesting to think about how vanitas grew up an unwilling experiment and probably never really got to understand consent
You should watch Erased, it's a good 2006 anime. Really recommend it.
" noe is good at one thing , and that's being adorable "

"Origin of “lose your marbles”
“Lose your marbles” is thought to have originated in the United States in the late 1800s. Marbles were a popular toy for children at the time, and they were often used as a symbol of value or worth. To lose one's marbles was therefore to lose something of great importance." Acording to google
Don't forget the children tantrums that would result from this so they would go up to a child crying and going "crazy" and ask if they lost their marbles
I'm the 666th like, also thx for the exposition.

Immaculate yap session
Immaculate information dish. I fucking hate people saying yap this is good info
The anime cuts most of the direct references to Vanitas sleeping on the rooftop of the hotel. And it cut out a bit of dialogue in the beginning when Amelia delivers the note to Vanitas, she makes a comment on how she is surprised to find him in his room, and Vanitas says that he's now sleeping in there like he's supposed to, to which Ameila wonders where he was sleeping before. But the implication being that after the catacombs incident, Vanitas has felt more comfortable to be vulnerable around Noé to sleep in the same room as him (plus the fact that Vanitas chooses to rest on Noé right after they've delt with Moreau). Which makes Vanitas' departure at the end (after Noé asks to drink his blood) to sleep on the roof all the more significant because it shows a break in the newfound trust between him and Noé (though unintentionally).
Also in the manga during that same scene in the beginning, when Noé falls off the bed, Amelia tries to go and help him but Vanitas stops her by saying that Noé will just latch on and turn her into a hug pillow (spoken like from experience).
The Dhams have way more to do it the manga and it's sad to not see them show up as much in the anime.
I've never thought of roof sleeping as a lack of trust. In most media I've seen, it's Chinese loverboy, free, spirit, wild and wanting to see the stars kind of thing. I would've never put that together.
@@darladay4766 I don't think it's very obvious in the anime, but after reading the manga that's my interpretation of it, at least why he decides to make the change to sleep in their room. It makes sense especially considering in Moreau's laboratory Noé learned a lot of Vanitas' past and he stood by him during his time of need (and without judgment) and it probably meant a lot to Vanitas.
@@ariannacandelaria2997 I literally have pattern brain and probably would've still missed it. Kudos (to your brain), and thanks (for sharing details)
@@darladay4766 I used to think that when I first watched the show, then as I watched more I started seeing Vanitas sleeping on the rooftop as a way to show that Vanitas didn't want to be vulnerable. There must have been some kind of subtle suggestion in the show that got so many people thinking this way.
WHAT I HAD NO IDEA I’M GONNA CRY
It's a vampire show where the vampires are fairly human-like. In that context, blood drinking is nearly always a sex metaphor. Therefore, it is usually best to assume that all such vampires are bisexual unless proven otherwise. It certainly makes the most sense for the character dynamics in this show!
It’s so interesting how different vampire stories can be, like in wwdits blood is a complete replacement for food, and in vanitas they can have both
Fun fact the whole myth about vampires not seeing the reflection in mirrors actually kind of stems from back in the day mirrors have silver to give their reflective quality so a vampire not seeing themselves in the mirror is due to the silver I don't remember where I learned this I just remembered that I do
i think there was a post about it circling on tumblr a while back that was then passed on to other platforms, at least that's where i read about it
07:05 Little does Danny know - the anime cut a ton of scenes with Dante and other dhams, and _now_ current manga arc is *_about them!_*
There's some really heavy themes how hard it is to be of mixed races and being looked down on by both sides, and I have no idea how anime could possibly salvage it!
Yeah idk if the anime needs to adapt it though because so far it's just been really awkward and hamfisted portrayals of racism in the manga arc
@@Rancimus Cannot agree. It's a pretty realistic look for a racism in fantasy. It's fine if it makes you uncomfortable, because it's supposed to! It's part of the point!
Besides, it was always there - just in the background. I am glad the author chose to actually tackle it instead of just dropping it, the way most authors do when they choose to not think hard about implications of the world they've written.
Not to mention one Marquis Machina - which is proving to be the _biggest_ mistake to cut Marquis out.
@@СарраКарагозян it's not about being uncomfortable. It's just not well written, nor well placed within the narrative we've seen so far.
The case study of vanitas feels like the opposite of queer-baiting, like Jeanne and Vanitas go on a date and you think that maybe there will be some form of a heterosexual relationship in this show and then not even 5 minutes later Noe is lamenting about how badly he wants to drink Vanitas’s yummy blood while blushing like a school girl
This made me laugh out loud 😂

can't even call your friend adorable without catching a twink allegation from Danny.
By the by, i commented a few episodes ago that I think Roland is the platonic ideal of what a Paladin is.
His scene in the s1 finale is what cemented it.
Faced with the threat of "the church will murder your family for looking into this". His response was to speculate about how many Paladins (of which there are only 12) he could kill before they dropped him.
He believes in the divine truth more than he does in the church.

As someone who has read the manga and watched both seasons, I would definitely say that season 2 is better. While season one is kinda all over the place the second has a clear beginning middle and end and it will make you love Roland even more. Also a lot of the things you pointed out get "fixed" in season 2, like we get a lot of Jeanne content and Domi has one of the most heartbreaking scenes ever. And don't worry because if you are looking for a great finale you will find it next season!
Also, i think this anime is one of the biggest examples that for you to make a sexual scene you don't need to have boobs on screen or any of that classic anime stuff we see, vanitas is a very horny anime but it manages to do that without heavily sexualising any of the characters. I hope other animes can learn from that
ROLAND AND OLIVIER ARE GOALSSSSSS also there's alot more Roland and Olivier in season 2
If I remember correctly, vampires in vnc were named vampires after the myth of them because they can drink blood and are stronger, so when it gets to the specifics, like garlic or reflections, they differ from the actual myths
Danny getting visibly excited when Roland comes on screen is so real
I can't wait until Danny reacts to season 2, like I'm vibrating from excitement
The case study of vanitas is like liquid smut
It is😂
Nah that’s blood bank
To be fair, this DOES give me vampire BSD vibes, and vanitas is just ranpo
Omg I was afraid to say it but I completely agree!!! (I thought it was just me being unhealthily obsessed with bsd)
I honestly think your humor and Vanitas just match, it may not be the most intriguing story out there, but it is fun and unique and mainly YOU have a great chemistry with the show, its just enjoyable to watch. Vanitas no Carte is a very unique styled anime, same as Pandora Hearts, the author really loves Alice in Wonderland vibes and as a result its not as much about the story as about just being a weird ride.
Every day I pray for a Pandora Hearts anime reboot or season two. It’s just such a shame how the anime ended and how the manga continued to get better :/
Yeah the chemestry is strong
@sylver_drawer
Same, (very long-time fan here), I'd argue both PN and Vanitas, start with mysteries that don't seem so interesting and are mainly watched for their characters, but as time goes on, you genuinely start to care about the secrets of their world
08:35 Unless it turns out everyone is bisexual and polyamorous~
That marble bit was the funniest thing I’ve ever heard
It's so strange to see knowledge that I take for granted as a french person and Danny reacts to it strongly.
Also a bit of history: the beast of Gévaudan killed more than 88 people (up to more than 120 depending on the sources) composed of mostly children and young women. It was during the 1760s in the south of France.
Even now there is no real answer on what the beast actually was. Some believe that it was a very large dog/wolf with rabies, other the act of a serial killer. Very interesting story.
Not French, but I'm familiar! There were some theories that it was a tiger, too. Presumably there was even a taxidermy of an animal thought to be the Beast, but it was lost.
his face when Roland spawned into the episode is so relatable GOSH thank you for adoring the guy so much he'S EVERYTHING
The *CLANG* after "Time for my nightly concussion !" is ending me, thank you to the editor 😭
Danny: Noe WHO hurt you!?
Oh Danny… the entire world qwq
It’s not the season finale it’s just the end of part 1. Part 2 really gets into the story and main plot conflict.
PLEASE watch season 2. I swear it's so much better and the ending is *chef's kiss* I want to see you react, especially, to the final episodes 😩
Season 1/First Cour is really a lot of exposition; explaining the vampire lore and plot threads. It just doesn't all connect at first so I get that it doesn't grip everyone. I'm still hoping you like 2nd Cour/Season (and there's more Roland)!!
Maybe Astolfo or Jean-Jacques will make your 4th memorable character 😭 they're characters you grow to love... I think
Highly suggest the manga. As someone who has only seen the show through these videos, i think they're really beautiful and there are a lot of extra character moments. Some of my faves include the confessional with Roland, the moments where Vanita gives Noe sweets like tarte tartin and the bit about Noe being a clingy sleeper with everyone including Vanitas
I love the show and ive rewatched it a bunch of times, im getting the first 3 manga volumes asap!! It's so beautiful and the covers are some of the best ones I've ever seen
Part 2 is so good!!! The stakes get a lot higher and all the building in the first season really sets up the importance of what happens in the 2nd season. I love your Vanitas reactions
season two definitely picks up a way better pace and goes through more tight knit story arcs :)
I like the fact that there isn't anything too memorable in vnc but instead there are little things that occupy your mind all day. (Noe wiggling his legs while thinking about sucking vanitas's blood, Noe basically realizing he's in love with Vanitas, Dominique calling Jeanne cute, Noe basically becoming the red head old guy's slave, Vanitas literally abandoning his date just to make sure Noe is safe.)
YAY!! YET ANOTHER VNC REACTION!
And don't worry, there will be a lot of super cool characters to appear in the future, Danny! And, well... Jeanne really hasn't been near a road to be honest. 😭 Plus, the Shapeless One is Noe's teacher loll
"Are you flirting, or are you just sexy by nature?" I loved that 😂
There is actually a scientific explanation to why Vampires could have reflections
Mirrors used to be made of silver that's why they couldn't see their reflection bc silver is too pure.
But nowadays mirrors are made from aluminium so the purity of the silver is lost, therefore allowing Vampires to see their reflections.
9:48
Fun fact: the reason why vampires don’t have reflection is because mirrors back then mirrors were made out of silver. And silver repels vampires. So maybe the mirror is made out of aluminium instead
"It's a compliment!" "It's an insult!" The timing was elite!
17:44 I like how immediately after I go "okay, that was kinda hot, Roland" Danny asks if Roland is flirting or just sexy by nature😂💙
so from my understanding the reason why we can see vamps now is that the material in them has changed ( mythologicaly speaking of course)
Yeah it's no longer made with silver
6:23 i love danny discovering tsundere
7:23 “BRB gonna go shit in the park”
DANNY I CANNOT
Roland does come back in season two there’s a lot of him in season two and he’s one of my favorite characters too!
Also most of the characters you said in the end that wasn’t “part” of the show gets a lot of that in season two we just learned a lot more about them and I don’t know how to not spoil it so I’m just not going to say it but we get to learn more about them
season 2 DEFINITELY makes this show better i cannot wait till Danny reacts to it
Season two introduces us to new villains, characters and story, I can't wait to see Danny react to it.
The Beast of Gevaudan was a real thing in France(resulting in an unknown beast/animal killing 100+ people), like Jean D'Ark was a real person( key figure in the French Revolution), as was Ruthven( who wrote/was a part of the world's first vampire novel).
A lot of the "famous" characters/creatures/vampires are based on real figures!
Jun Mochizuki (the mangaka) loves her history.
Also Vani's threat is because he doesn't want anyone to nose in on his history, which is veeeery graphic.
Every vampire has certain powers that are because they "rewrite the world's formula in their favor". Noe's is to manipulate gravity, like Chuuya!
I died during this video, the reactions to the Date scenes were my favorite 😂😂
Ikr especially 3:53😂
I just binged watched the entirety of The Case Study of Vanitas in like. Two days. And I may have made the most unholy squeal of joy when I saw this had uploaded. Thank you Danny for feeding my utterly devastating brainrot, I’m so so SO excited for you to react to season 2, it goes INSANELY hard.
Not the season Finale. The actual finale feels like one. (Edit: it's the "part/cour" finale)
Also, cute to compare "growing to love" characters in a many season show vs an incomplete first season 🤭
SEASON 2 SEASON 2 SEASON 2 NOW NOW NOW NOW
THERE'S SO MUCH TO SEEEEEEEE
"La bete de Gevaudan" is an actual historical thing, kinda. During the mid 1700s, a lot of people got kiled by what was described as "an unusually large wolf" or looking "similar to a wolf". A giant hunt ensued that lasted nearly 3 years, with people starting to say that it was a werewolf or some other unholy creature to have escaped for so often.
The more plausible explanation is that the hunters killed a lot of wolves, but managed to miss the one manhunter or also that it might actually not have been a wolf, but a young lion or striped hyena, escaped from a menagerie, which would explain the "similar to a wolf, but looking deformed or different" stories. It could also have been a fairly big Wolfhound, which would make it bigger than most ususal wolves.
The story has been taken into Myth and recently Popculture, one of my Favourite adaptation being the Books "Ritus" and "Sanctum" by German Author Markus Heitz, where he makes the man who alledegly killed the beast, Jean Chastel, a central figure, as well as his decendants, which carry on his werewolfhunting lineage (In the book it _is_ actually a werewolf)
15:51 the extended fall made me laugh so hard
16:09. Simply enjoying the beaming smile you have and your excitement over your fav character having a spot in the finale. That's all, good smile and joy from other joy.

It's not a well known anime, but cross ange is like that, good traumatic trashy anime that's like a guilty pleasure and then Book of bantorra is like badass grimbook collectors of souls who turn into books after they die... it's been a long while but from what I remember it's crazy 😅
9:46 that mirror may be missing the silver backing that makes vampires not reflect.
I do believe that Jun Mochizuki stories just inherently feel like... all right, we've set up a lot, now more things need to happen? From my experience trying to introduce Pandora Hearts to people, I've always found myself saying things like 'you gotta read quite a bit into it to really get into it' and although VNC does differ from PH a LOT perhaps they have this vibe in common. I do always have to say that the way she writes is SO worth the time getting into the payoff of things.
The John Wick bit had me cackling
I'm pretty sure the reflection thing started because of a material that was used to create mirrors before that isn't used anymore (forgot which, but I think it was mercury).
Edit: my bad, it was silver. I think mercury is the material we use for CURRENT mirrors.
It was silver. Bc silver was the weakness of vampires as iron was for fae
@@altair_nair3702 right, oops
Hot take but i think season two is lowkey better. I also feel like you didn't pick up some plot related stuff danny, like the fact that lord ruthven, charlatan and doctor moreau are all connected, i think thats some really important stuff to pick up. Also the shapelest one is noés teacher 👍🏻
Danny: Keep in mind I havn't seen Castlevania--
Me: *New desire unlocked- Castlevania reaction series*
(9:40)
So I think the reason vampires in this show don't deal with certain downsides that we associate with vampires is because they aren't really *vampires* (at least not in a traditional sense). They were created by the formula of humans being changed, so they aren't created in the way they are in most vampire media (biting from a vampire, which isn't even brought up as possibility as well as the fact Vanitas hasn't been turned into one despite being bitten multiple times).
Overall they don't actually share many similarities with traditional vampires other than the drinking blood, red eyes, and fangs. They can be in the sun with no issue, we don't actually know about garlic (but I feel like it would have been brought up if it has any effect on them), they can see themselves in mirrors (which, in this era ta least, would likely have silver in them meaning traditional vampires wouldn't be able to see themselves), and they can control their thirst for blood.
So they are definitely vampiric but they aren't really the traditional vampires we're used to.
(Sorry about the rant lol, just find vampire stuff really interesting and I love how this anime writes them as a species ^^")
"Noe who hurt you !?" hahaha
The SECOND I heard "Beast of Gevaudan" my Teen Wolf phase rolled in up in a jeep, took off its sunglasses, and said "you rang?"

“Time for my nightly concussion”
That right there is where I lost it
Danny, in case you forgot, the trajectory of this show is Vanitas death, Noe starts almost all the episodes with "and this is how and why I killed my boyfriend"
O, yea......
I was really enjoying not remembering that, you know.
extremely late fun fact.
way back then mirrors could be made with silver. but there were also some mirrors around with mercury in them.
the part where mirrors still show vampires reflection might lend the idea that only silver mirrors did not show reflections of vampires and mercury ones still could.
i literally cant stop laughing every second I watch this 😭😭
I love how you smile right when you see Roland 😭😭
