I would like to extend my thanks to Bahnstormer BMW near Alton for allowing me to use the bike for the morning. It was cold and Wintery but I managed to put the bike through its paces and get a very good idea what this fantastic bike would be like to own. I think it’s something I would rather enjoy!
This is the short version (yes short its 30 mins long!!) I have about an hour of this ride and may release a RAW version for the avid fans or the people who want to see everything about this bike that I managed to explore on this ride out.
Long live the BMW now bring on the Ducati 1298 and new Yamaha R1!!

Good review. I ordered 1 yesterday and the dealer knocked 1000 off. I agree it's still a lot of money but they are all priced the same nowadays Yamaha wouldn't knock me £1 off. They also gave me good money for my gen 2

Thanks. Yes I'm lucky. I'll have to go easy on this bike :). I'm riding a KTM 1190 Adventure now and less experienced on a sportsbike.

I've watched a lot of reviews and this is definitely up there as one of my favorites. Made me wince and laugh in roughly equal measure ...just as well the speedo is configured to KPH ;)
I reckon it's one of the nicest standard can's going, especially that you can remove the baffle

Nice review John, I was climbing all over one on Friday at the bike show. I've got to say that I would have the S1000R if I could ever afford it and like you my bike is a Sunday toy so justifying one to the boss would be fun. The reason I don't tend to test ride bikes is if it's better than my current bike I will spend the next couple of months wishing I had it lol. There is also the clinical feel to some of the new techno heavy bikes out now which seem to lack soul. Try pinning the throttle on a dry or damp road on my bike and your likely to feel close to god pretty sharpish. Then you have the other issue, it's not special like your Blade for instance a true one off which only you have.
I was there friday too!! We keep missing each other :) agree with everything youve said, it's why I never test rode anything last year as didn't want to be left wanting lol. Would never trade the blade against anything new, if there is a new Fireblade next year I would be very tempted mind as a second bike .... :)
hi i found your channel on yt with s1000rr review. I have a question about valve knock in the range of 2500 - 4000 rpm, is this normal for this model? and another question about slipper clutch. When you suddenly press the clutch and take off the gas, you hear a strange thump? Thank you for your answer

You mentioned you could commute or even your on this bike. Is the riding position a lot more upright vs the R1 etc?
I'm looking for a bike like this and if it's not leaned over too much I think it's the one.

Thanks Mark, it's a great all round bike, you could certainly tour on it no problem at all. R1 is a much more race focused bike, the BMW feel refined to ride and a real mile muncher

Thanks Kevin, the suspension is great I would have to have that version of the bike. I would like to retest in the summer to push it harder though in the corners but in the conditions it was fantastic!
Excellent video. This S1000RR at video has some performance device like Power Commander, Rapid Bike,etc or this bike at this video is fully stock?

Chops looking back at this how would rate the '15 S1000rr against the lastest and greatest you rode now such as new blade , GSXR and RSV4?
+The Incredible Sulk very hard to say.. it was bloody quick and fairly comfortable, not too different really to the suzuki.. I need to try one again next year as a reminder. Still a very good bike

Great video. I’m looking to buy a 2016 RR in these same colors! I love the white/blue motaradd colors and not sure about the red/white. Love the Bahnstormer decals!! Very cool. Can you buy them? Thanks??

Nice review LCR I will have to wait until they are around 8 yrs old before I can afford one lol Well unless I can sell one of my kids but they may come in handy for Kidneys etc later so best not pmsl All the show offs with too much cash will have these down my local bike joint like they did when the first one came out. Felt sorry for them in the end as they ended up like Clit bikes lol
***** Im in the same boat as you Flibbert, cant afford these new toys. Understand what you saying about selling the kids but decided to put one of mine on Ebay after all :)

Nice review. I still don't like the looks. The front end and all the bodywork creases, make it look like a botox addict. But as a bike, I can't argue that it seems to tick all the other boxes (I'd love an auto-blipper too!) And glad to see you put in the Goonies reference :D
Chris McEvoy Yeah I prefer it to the old one but not sure I could live with it day to day.. All depends how good the other 2015 wonder bikes are to ride as this is superb to ride. Yeah had to use your Goonies idea cheers :)
Did you ride that Saturday? If so, my balls were on it first! It really does feel reliable and pushable doesn't it? I am a complete novice and I had a great time on it, after I felt like I'd tamed a beast and was much more confident on my own bike. I had it in "rain" mode the "entire time" because it was *lashing* it down the entire time and the back end still went on me. My review if you can call it that is a lot shorter though.
PS:I hate the headlights too and the swingarm is fugly.

Lamb Chop Rides Ah jolly good. The QS is really good isn't it? That was my favourite bit, and the poppity pop exhaust.
Southern Fried Yes works very well SF, found it a little tight when changing up from 4th 5th 6th but the guys said it was probably me not releasing it properly.. How did you find it? I loved the down shift blipper best :)
Lamb Chop Rides I found it got a bit iffy going up from 2nd to 3rd unless the revs were matched which IMO defeats the object of a QS. Other than that it was great. I used it all the time and only pulled in the clutch lever when coming to a sotp. I didn't do a whole lot of sitting still on it though. Heated grips were nice but I wear summer gloves all year round anyway and don't feel the cold. (I'm a Viking)
Southern Fried haha yeah I did find some issues with the QS to, probably a case of just getting used to it I think.. Im also a summer gloves man but only ride in the summer as Im no Viking :)

any numbness in the hands or arms... how would u rate the ergonomics of it?
Not that I remember seemed was very smooth, it's very very comfy for a sports bike, pegs are a little high but I suspect some rear sets would sort that if it was a problem

If you think the S1000 has a lot of buttons don't get a Goldwing because they have more buttons than a keyboard ;) Not to keen on the headlights but I could get used to them. Apart from that I would be torn in choosing this or a Panigale :/

My dads got a Goldwing 1800. He asked me to start and I couldn't figure which one it was :O Ended up being the reverse button to start! If I was to get a Ducati it would be a 748 or something similar. New ones are waaaay to pricey :/

Nope not that stand out Island, it was a year ago I rode it though! Was pretty smooth and no heat issues.
+Island728 Vibration is present at lower revs (around 4000rpm) and a lot of heat on the pegs & ankles at slow speeds in warm weather when the fan comes on.
You should take one out next summer chops I took one out and it blow me away

Yeah would prefer two headlights the same.. Think most would!
You could try and add stickers above the headlights, making them look the same size. Or does that ruin anything?

Yep, buddy just bought the Gsx-s1000 as preferred to have some change in his pocket.. 15k is just to much money for me!

Where I come from, i can buy 2 s1krrs for the price of 1 Toyota Corolla. With the new taxes on big/'luxury' bikes this year, the panigale R is just marginally cheaper then the Corolla. This tax has made the s1krr dearer by $10-$12k. Even a 400cc bike is considered 'luxury'. Crazy!
