Actually, the first gen was featured on a Mission Imposible film (Rogue Nation, I believe) and the chase sequence is really good. Maybe James Bond is a national pride to the British people (I also quite like it), but the Mission Imposible films are pretty good, specially all the bikes scenes.
TheMissendenFlyer I’m looking at getting a fast motorbike for 5K Max! I no I can’t get one of these as much as I love them there just too expensive. what would you recommend? I’m asking you as you seem to no your stuff. I’ve had a CBF 600 and have a R6 on a 04 plate which I’m selling. want a bigger bike.
Having test ridden the S1000RR, S1000XR and S1000R over the last couple of weekends, I just couldn't connect with the XR, the single R was fun and apart from the very uncomfortable seat very good, but the RR was the best with very little discomfort, comfiest seat and good riding position. All tested for about an hour over the same route. Love the great reviews, keep up the good work.
Review is the most accurate I've seen. This bike is an overall beast in every aspect. Stability at the highest of speeds and handles tremendously around the tightest of turns. Great machine, I bought the same color scheme premium model with the HP package, unlocks a little more power, and then the adjustable riding modes. The next one added is "slick" mode which is intended for track use ONLY if you actually have racing slicks on the bike at that time. The technology BMW has consistently come out with year after year is unbelievable. Had a 2012, upgraded to the 2017 about two months ago. And 100% correct, the stock exhaust is hideous. Replaced that immediately with the full Akrapovic titanium racing system and I love it. The computer in the bike is smart enough to auto adjust the air to fuel after 40 hours/400 miles. Sounds like it has a racing cam shaft at first but it eventually adjusts itself. No need for a tune for just an exhaust change.
Germans are brilliant. I've had so many people come up to me and say they never knew BMW made motorcycles... They made motorcycles well before Jeep made Jeeps. We're talking early early 1900's when they started producing bikes. Since this bike came out in 09 it has been 5 years ahead of the other manufacturers. I'm convinced they have had this designed since 2012 and they change it up every year to keep their edge.
I have to say, the 899 has been undoubtedly my dream bike since it was first released and now that I’m ready to buy one (I was so convinced, there was never another alternative) I’ve test ridden the s1000rr and extremely enjoyed it. I would even consider buying the Bmw over the ducati now, looking at the overall package and smoothness although I really like how thin the ducati feels. So I’m very torn between those two. Great to see that you reviewed it. It really helps to have your perspective on things knowing you own a 899 👍🏼.
Brilliant review! I've been contemplating buying a panigalie 959 for 6 months but never committed, having watched your review a few weeks ago I popped into the local motorrad showroom, with your review still in my head a 2017 s1000rr called out to me, to the point I could not leave until I bought it, talk about a connection, frightening. So thanks again and keep the reviews coming. Topman
Well I try and keep to the speed limit but it is an exercise in extreme self control to do so on these litre sports bikes all the time - incredible machines.....really for the track of course...
I’ve just traded my 2016 r1 for one of these. I’ve heard so many bad things about bmw and I know things can go wrong, but I still believe it’s how well you look after it everything is breakable doesn’t matter how big it is. Looking forward to picking it up in a couple of weeks after this weather clears up down here in Devon! Just like to say your channel is the best on RUclips keep up the good work and stay safe. I’ve always got one of your videos playing on the Mac when I get home the lady of the house just rolls her eyes 😆 boys will be boys.
The thing I liked about this review is that even though I wouldn't own this bike, I have always been curious as to how they ride. You just provided me (as I sit here nursing a broken leg) the opportunity to see just how a ride on this bike would be. My '14 Night Rod is in the shop getting repaired (crashed) , the '04 VMAX, '10 King Pin, and '89 Guzzi California (slightly modified) all await my return to regular life. These great videos help ease my pain and are very therapeutic. Thanks.
Great review, as always. I've had that bike as well as the Panigale (1299S) and would be interested in your take on the comparison of the two. I actually commuted for a year on the BMW, including riding in cold rain in the evenings, and I was always amazed at how stable and comfortable it was. It was also completely faultless. I think the BMW engineering and quality of manufacturing are first rate, and the S1000RR certainly reflects that. To me, there is more "drama" in riding the Panigale. The engine and exhaust notes are much more interesting, even at idle, and the bike feels smaller, due to the L-twin layout and the side mounted rear suspension. I also agree that the Panigale is a bit more of a pain, in-town, seemingly shifting more of your weight to your wrists than what you find on the BMW. They are both beautiful bikes, in my opinion--but with very different characters.
We have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to selecting among modern bikes. I spend a fair amount of time in my garage, idly staring at mine, trying to take in all the lines and details.
Your a genius MIssendenFlyer. A genius. Don't stop what your doing much more informative when compared to the whimsical press who don't even cover 1/2 of what I get watching your vids. A new subscriber btw. I wanted to get this bike before I got my TuonoRR. The seating position was too aggressive & felt like I was seated at a very aggressive angle (i'm only a short rider at 5 foot 4 inches) & found the TuonoRR more accommodating although I still shaved 1 inch off the seat to get balls of feet down. I do still dream of getting on the BMW but I'll make so watching people like you ride it around. Respect to you Sir. Ride well.
Just purchased one of these, went for the Black / Grey colours though, great review and wouldn't argue or disagree with anything you mention, particularly the ugly CAT / exhaust thing, I'm taking mine to Slovenia via Switzerland & Austria later this year so you were bang on regards the touring capabilities to 👍🏼
Great vid. I got the 1199R and absolutely loved the BMW after a test ride for street use. So much friendlier and easy to ride compared with the R. Just as fast but it never scares the s*** outta ya like the R does - this bike gives so much confidence. And PLUSH! Its like riding a sofa compared to the R. Gotta get one!
+Hamish M Yes I felt the same when compared to my 898 Panigale, the BMW is just so much easier to ride (and comfy). That said it's always an occasion to ride the Ducati, it looks so much better than the BMW, sounds like a beast, and I've no plans on chopping mine in against an RR yet....
I went to the touratech show a couple of weeks ago test ride the triumph tigger range . Over the Welsh mountains . Didn't realise BMW had the full s1000 range until the end of the day gutted . By the looks They taken it to a new level.
Great review. Love the S1000RR, best all round road/track/touring bike money can buy in my opinion. My only gripe is the ugly subframe but that's really nitpicking.
TheMissendenFlyer no but I've owned a Tuono 1100 ;) I like the super naked bikes but in my opinion a comfortable superbike make better tourers, and win on most tracks. The only area a super naked wins for me is weekend blasts - which, to be fair, are what most bikes are used for.
Another great video, I agree this is a brilliant bike. I may be slightly biased as I'm heading for S1000RR number 3, tried different bikes but I keep coming back to the beemer.
Another great review. Heated grips, comfortable seat, and a stonking engine. What's not to like! Can I recommend a tour around Northern Ireland's North Antrim coast for your next short tour.
Love the Boo and double Boo at the end, Another top review, Sports bikes are too much for me now i am fat and nearly 50 but 20 yrs ago i would have loved one. NS400R and SP1 was as sporty as i got back in the day but the S1000rr is an awesome bike but this time i will stick with my RT.
TheMissendenFlyer the new Aprilia RSV4 RR with the new updates and amazing engine sound is just a tick better than the BMW in my opinion but I admit it's not as comfortable, refined and as light as the BMW. It would be a tough decision that's for sure but you can't go wrong with either bike! Motorcycle.com is doing a comprehensive test on all the super sport bikes so it will be interesting to see the results.
Another good review TMS! I had very similar thoughts when I had an unexpected ride on one last week (and managed an impromptu video review!). The only difference for me was that at 6', my legs were tucked up quite a bit on the pegs! Otherwise, it was armchair-like compared to my 1199s.
Looks fine to me - think it's just the way the light is falling...no, no heat or vibes at all...and err, probably not - I love the looks of the Panigale and it's always an occasion to ride the Ducati, the BMW just isn't quite as special to me....brilliant though it is...
What a fantastic machine. I agree that you can tour on bikes like this very successfully with a tail pack and small tank bag. Even the minimal fairing and screen make all the difference to long distance riding comfort. Much more appealing to me than bikes like the MT10. What is the round feature just above the LCD dash?
It's a flying machine, and it gets you to mega speeds instantly. I best leave well alone. Cracking video and commentary as always, thanks for the video.
I commute on my S1000RR. Ride 2.5hours to Phillip Island and do the occasional trackday and ride home. All in comfort. Heated grips, cruise control, Storage bags. What's not to love.
Ha.. This video started by riding past my childhood home and hunting grounds.. Considering I left there over thirty five years ago, it was a pleasure to see a familiar strip of road that it seems I still know like the back of my hand.. Nice one.
Actually, you did a lap, pretty much the routes I used to ride as a 17 year old onwards, although the thicket was different back then.. Marlow didn't change either.. Nice ride, nice bike.. I felt your pain at the slow traffic up Bisham hill.. :o)
Another great review but......... whilst we would all live to walk into a dealership and flop the best part of 20k on a GS or RR, some of us are returning to biking after a 20 year lay off and are looking at the used market. Every bike is damn good when it's a brand spanking new demo bike. What about testing some used bikes for around the 5k Mark? I'm sure that your contacts would let you take a used bike out if you gave them a bit of free advertising during the vlog. Anyway keep up the excellent work. By far the best UK bike reviewer out there as far as I am concerned.
Great review as always , this has become a serious contender for my next bike , I took the CBR 1000 RR SP out last week and whilst I enjoyed it I don't think it justifies its £19200 price tag ! , I think it's pay a visit to my local BMW dealers time .
GREAT REVIEW BROTHER, I got a 2014 S1000 and I love it. Its my daily driver, so so comfortable, i can't do that with my 1299. The element that the BMW is missing the exotic factor that the duc has.
I am moving to Germany, any recs on the best track days, already got DRE in Italy, one in Germany with Focusedevents and one in Spain with PACEDAYZ. Would love to hear your advice
When I first bought mine a year ago I took it out on that super bit of highway and was scooting along at nearly 100 mph which is unwittingly easy, and was pulled over. The good news is I got keep possession of my license as the policeman just gave me a warning. Lady Luck was with me again. Lol
Yeah, trouble is one day that could run out - I just couldn't trust myself with one of these puppies....lovely machine though, brilliant bit of engineering - enjoy and ride safe!
Great presentation, as usual, thanks and congrats! I also saw your presentation of the Honda fsp fireblade. Also great. Question? If you had to choose between the bmw or the Honda what would you choose? Thanks and greetings from Switzerland .
Tricky one as they are both way more bike than I can handle on the road - I'd probably go for the Honda as I preferred the electronics package and the overall looks of the bike - the BMW is possibly the better machine but both as I say are way more bike than I can make good use of so it comes down to which one I like the look of!!
Once again another great review. One day I hope to have the finances and skills to ride the s1000rr my dream bike. Ride safe and be cool with greetings from south London.
Awesome machines ,, never rode one but couple of my mates have them ,, wished I'd kept my Zx10r but there you go ,, good review as usual ,, Shane thanks
Yes, the XR or GS or RT would be a better touring option, but if you had to do big miles on this, it could be done with relative ease (compared say to my Panigale)....
I bought a used low milage 15 RR & everything abt is as u say in this vid. Didnt want to buy brand new 17 cos of that hideous cat converter. Really a great bike to ride. I dont hv much of a butt so i do feel discomfort there after abt 3-4 hrs of continous riding which is much better than my 150 cc 2 stroker where it gets pretty uncomfortable at abt 1+hrs. The only real issue with it is the heat. So if youre gonna be stuck in traffic on a hot afternoon, if youre wearing mid cut riding shoes, your lower shin esp the left is gonna get burned. Carbon fibre frame protectors are also a must cos the chassis gets v v hot. My right knee got burned & had a boil after a night ride around a busy town. Im not sure if its the same problem with the cooler temperatures in the UK. I come from the tropics!
You remove the cat and put dan.moto pipe on removing the cable s on the pipe and the flapper. Put the muffler back on it runs great and sound wonderful. It puts more power in bike I'm going to get a flash ecu next stupit fast ok
@@phillipbroady1181 That wld be great but unfortunately where i come from the laws are very strict on exhaust mods. The Road/Transport Dept Officers do patrols even at night, so if youre unlucky you will get caught & fined. Even if you do not get caught, theres the annual vehicle inspections for vehicles more than 3 yrs old & you need to pass it in order to renew road tax. There are people willing enough to go bk to the workshop to change back to stock before the inspection & change back to illegal after it, but i think its too much hassle. Heck! I wanted an sc project conic exhaust slip on. Its legal in the EU but still illegal in my country. Maybe bcos of the removable baffle. Seems like the akra slip on is the only option available.
hi i found your channel on yt with s1000rr review. I have a question about valve knock in the range of 2500 - 4000 rpm, is this normal for this model? and another question about slipper clutch. When you suddenly press the clutch and take off the gas, you hear a strange thump? Thank you for your answer
Prince Fancybum they aren't that's just the cable adjuster on the clutch, I've got hp levers on mine and on closest setting they still are a long way away. Have u tried the r1? Major prob with them is the throttle
1 massive downfall it doesn't have both for 2017 and 2018 is the cable clutch, dont know why they didnt put one on like the GSA's. Thankfully the new 2019 has a hydraulic clutch
Panigale - There's just something about the Ducati that makes it special, the BMW is lovely - possibly the best sports bike I've ridden (and I rode the R1 today) but it is lacking that certain something for me....I am of course biased having already shelled out on my Panigale!
Think you kept hitting flys on your camera , the centre would keep getting blurry , then go clear till you hit another , l o l , great self cleaning lenses on them go pros , great review , and glad I haven’t got one ,,,poor self control on right wrist , great review as usual , cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
yeah I think the R1 is too much for me right now, so I went for the R6 and the more I look the more I become excited and keep getting happier! Cannot wait!
That would be sweet. Everyone says liter/litre biked cost more to maintain than 600’s. That’s the one thing holding me back. I guess I’ll stick to dual sports for now (more leg room)
That motor would be brilliant in a R1200RT type setup. "Enough" power, smoother than the twin... Might be more economical on cruise with 200cc less too, even a *cough* bit *cough* faster.. And it doesn't have the scary complexity (reliability and maintenance costs) of the 1600 6 cyl...
Thank you for your review - highly apprechiated! And i think i have heard, that BMW trust its quality of engine building in a way, that they use the 5% legal tolerance band - in germany at least it is said to be 5% - to the top side of power. i.e. every single bike will be found to be set by use of the eletronics to 210 hores power when it leaves the factory. reproducable. so "199" is just "in theory".
Hey TMF, can you please do a current top ten of bikes you have ridden? I know that you ride different categories of bikes but it would be very interesting to have a subjective comparison for fun.
Didnt realise you lived near Marlow. Only an hour away from me. Love the S1000RR , just over 2 years and i can have one ahaha. Currently ride an R125 buy my Street Triple S A2 is being delivered in August :D (was meant to be June, but got delayed ;( Been on order since January 11th) Wasn't keen on the new colours at first but they have grown on me. Still prefer the 2016 Motorsport colours
That is all three of the BMW's I like, The three I am considering. S1000RR sports with chip, K1600gtle and the super sexy little g310r for those tiny roads and some off road fun. Thanks for the reviews @Chris Varrie Forget the Helicopters m8, I live in the Dales. Watch out for the bikes they have. Their painted a nice stealthy black with little police symbols and high tech camera system, Extremely fast. Just like the days when they had the highly tuned Subaru's patrolling between white scar and Hawes.
+Hyundo Park Very similar - for sports bikes, and coming from a panigale, they are both pretty comfortable. Thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
I have been looking at RST jackets and trousers based upon your past reviews. Can you please tell me which leather jacket and trousers you are wearing in this video?
Nothing to do with age, how fit is the 50 yo? I have an RR and it is absolutely ok to tour Europe, 300 miles a day easy, take brakes etc. I did France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria on a CBR600!
Sounds like it still had the 9krpm restrictor set? Objectively then, if you were to score out of 10: handling, engine power/torque, engine smoothness, riding comfort, fuelling, brakes, gearchange, sound and value for money, how would you rate it next to your 899 and the new Fireblade?
Well on your measures it would score top marks - but if you added in character, desirability, looks, "specialness" then it would lose out to the 899 :0)
There may be elements of the ride not in the edit, plus you don't necessarily need to be grinding pegs to get a feel for weight transfer, stock bump/rebound damping etc. We're talking baseline perspectives of a predominantly road rider, which is where these bikes are aimed. Track riding as I'm sure you'll already know, is entirely dependant on the track itself and the subsequent changes to static/loaded sag, fork & damper compression/rebound and ride-height to suit the track, conditions, tyres and your own style. I don't own a new sport bike, have upgraded from a ZX-7R to an 04 Fireblade - in both cases I'd always tweak these things between track and road anyhow. In truth, apart from the weight of the bike, most bikes can be made to feel quite similar by adjusting these settings - the differences are only really down to spring rates which most people wouldn't bother changing (i.e. replacing) and the quality of the damping and consistency when hot. I think it's a reasonable comparison to ask the opinion of an experienced road rider what the thoughts are between two competing bikes in this sector which would have been setup by their respective dealers to the stock settings. As this is the new Euro4 compliant model, it would be interesting to hear the comparisons as manufacturers have had to adapt the fuelling to meet the new regulations - which in the Fireblade's case I understand made it feel a little lean at low revs - was interested to see if the Euro4 update to the S1000RR had taken away any of the prior fuelling quality.
i luv BMW's...pure pedigree....my 2001 K1200RS for a 16 year old motorcycle is still capable of 150mph.....my 32 year old 1985 K100 although nowhere near as fast will cruise all day long at 100mph....both bikes very advanced considering their age....
Just caught up with this, mate. Very good, thanks. It is the kind of bike that you would put in the lounge room and look at... The CC makes it the most civilised of all the sport bikes, BUT the riding position is just too much for my old bod...especially after the XR. The head down/arse up attitude is impractical for the road...as much as I love the bike, you are looking through the top of your visor at the traffic. What a nightmare it would be in the UK ....... :-) 200 HP sounds wonderful...but.......
so would you say that all you like about this bike would apply to the single R bike , with the single being even more comfortable, having now ridden both.
+Jim V Actually no, to me the RR felt faster (maybe due riding position), even more refined and surgical. Also I far prefer the looks of the Sports bike. I'd seriously have an RR but the R was just a bit "meh" to me.....just my opinion of course!!
Another interesting and enjoyable review. I would imagine a huge amount of self restraint would be needed owning one of these if you also wished to hang onto your licence.Noticed BVG ventured into testing and reviewing super-cars, would you ever consider other non motorcycle content (other than flying) ?
Yes I don't have the necessary self restraint to own a litre sports bike - it's bad enough to hold back on my 899 (which is really too much for the road as well let's be honest)...and dunno, if Mclaren offered me a sunny few days in Italy driving with a gorgeously cute blond lovely I think it would be extremely hard to refuse - I'm still completely seething with jealousy having seen BvG do that (in fact if Vauxhall offered me a drive around a rainy Luton with Nicki Shields I'd be hard pressed to refuse )....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Me too. I have had a look on the website and a RUclips video of a walk around and really like it, but as you say a bit much for the street, but then the 600cc class has a lack of low end power which is where you spend most of the time riding on the street, I mean don't get me wrong you can ride it on the street but exercise extreme self restraint. Thanks for the lovely reply. Take care and look forward to watching the next review. Hang on maybe a cruiser will be nice, I'm only 18 but I love the look of Hayley Davidson's and the triump Bonneville. If you ask where my funds will come from they will come from the royal navy. :)
Appreciate all the content you're putting out, thank you! One small tip (and don't get me wrong): would be great if you could re-record the Duc sound intro with a better microphone. Atm it sounds a bit painful. Hope you don't take this badly.

Would like to have 97 octane .... Shaken not Stirred
Got 3 riding modes: 3, 6 and 12 licence points
Exactly :0)!!
If U do not have a seated Brain, you will loos points even riding a Handy tri cycle mate
Just remember its the rider that controls the bike, if you're not man enough don't buy it

Bit of bravado really. Not going quick and you can’t see the speed anyway 😂

The S1000RR is more comfy, easier to ride, smooother and faster - but I’d still have the Panigale....
4:03 it is so much faster than the fireblade, even in rain mode. rode back to back recently- not close.

Boodieman72 even if he reviewd a lawnmower? Hehe
A lawnmower isn't a bike, now is it :)
Tell me about it!!
lol true that, althou lawnmower engines are in scoters
Do you have to be buying the bike to let them test ride it or will they just let you take it for a spin
Classy review from a genuine bike enthusiast who has an eye for quality. 10/10 review. What a bike!!

They are both beautiful bikes, in my opinion--but with very different characters.
100% agree, the BMW is brilliant, the Ducati is beautiful - always an occasion when I'm out on the Panigale.....
We have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to selecting among modern bikes. I spend a fair amount of time in my garage, idly staring at mine, trying to take in all the lines and details.
just bought one, very happy with it. Amazingly comfortable.
+JP G Congratulations!
Spot on review as always it’s great to see reviews from a while ago as not everyone is in the market for a brand new bike .. top work thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ride well.
Thank you Gabriel and welcome along!
Just purchased one of these, went for the Black / Grey colours though, great review and wouldn't argue or disagree with anything you mention, particularly the ugly CAT / exhaust thing, I'm taking mine to Slovenia via Switzerland & Austria later this year so you were bang on regards the touring capabilities to 👍🏼
Congratulations! ...and enjoy (carefully!)
same as me! Except I am doing Grenoble - limiter comes off tomorrow :)
I passed through the Grenoble area in 2015 on a blade, beautiful part of the world and some cracking roads, enjoy 👍🏼

I love the s1000rr. If I was in the market for a sportsbike, I'd be leaning towards this.
Well presented review, thanks!
Cheers Andrew - it is a lovely machine for sure - a surgical weapon of a bike...
"Trouble is that works both ways of course"...............did make me giggle! Haha! 😂
Glad you spotted that ;0)
I went to the touratech show a couple of weeks ago test ride the triumph tigger range . Over the Welsh mountains . Didn't realise BMW had the full s1000 range until the end of the day gutted . By the looks They taken it to a new level.
Sure have!
Gr8 review as always Andy and these bikes are becoming more affordable
Great review. Love the S1000RR, best all round road/track/touring bike money can buy in my opinion. My only gripe is the ugly subframe but that's really nitpicking.
Have you tried an MT10SP??? :0)
+Jim 86 Yeah I think you're probably right!
I like how the "shark fins" somewhat resemble the letters "RR" stacked in relief. Cool review as always.
+stilldking Good to have you along as ever :0)
Another great video, I agree this is a brilliant bike. I may be slightly biased as I'm heading for S1000RR number 3, tried different bikes but I keep coming back to the beemer.
Well I don't think you can go far wrong with one (as long as you are of a restrained nature....I'm not)...
What an excellent, clear, concise, informative, interesting and knowlegeable review. Thank you.
Thank you for watching and for your kind words!
What a lovely bike! It looks really good in the Lupin blue metallic color that they offer.
Agreed, the looks have certainly grown on me since I took this beastie for a ride...
I need this in my life. Superb review as usual.
Thank you :0)
Another great review. Heated grips, comfortable seat, and a stonking engine. What's not to like!
Can I recommend a tour around Northern Ireland's North Antrim coast for your next short tour.
Would love to do that - I need to get some maps and get planning!
I did see someone at Fort William with through over style panniers on a S1000RR was on German plates! Good review
Nice one...
Best review so far! You went through so much in detail. I'm exactly the same height as you so it's good hearing about the seat height!
Great - glad you found it of interest, all the best - TMF
Yessss, absolute dream bike. Have been secretly waiting for this review
Hehe, why secretly, are you ashamed to be watching??? ;0)
TheMissendenFlyer Ahaha no, not at all. Just wanted to let it happen without my prodding :P great video!
+Vanadium fair enough :0)
Keep up the great work, really enjoy watching your reviews.....!!!! Thanks!!!!
Thank you for watching Mark...
Love that colour scheme, great review as always
Cheers :0)
Love the Boo and double Boo at the end, Another top review, Sports bikes are too much for me now i am fat and nearly 50 but 20 yrs ago i would have loved one. NS400R and SP1 was as sporty as i got back in the day but the S1000rr is an awesome bike but this time i will stick with my RT.
Fantastic review mate! If I was going to buy a liter sports bike this would be near the top of the list for sure.
Near the top? The top spot going too??
Yes I must admit it is a comfy ol' ride compared to the diminutive proportions of a Panigale.....
You have really opened my eyes to this! going to test ride one
That frame paint doesn't look like it's holding up at 14:20! Did you notice any heat /vibes? Would you ever consider replacing the 899 with this?
Looks fine to me - think it's just the way the light is falling...no, no heat or vibes at all...and err, probably not - I love the looks of the Panigale and it's always an occasion to ride the Ducati, the BMW just isn't quite as special to me....brilliant though it is...
What a fantastic machine. I agree that you can tour on bikes like this very successfully with a tail pack and small tank bag. Even the minimal fairing and screen make all the difference to long distance riding comfort. Much more appealing to me than bikes like the MT10.
What is the round feature just above the LCD dash?
I think it's a rev limiter warning, I did notice it flash at me once or twice (oops!)
It's a flying machine, and it gets you to mega speeds instantly. I best leave well alone. Cracking video and commentary as always, thanks for the video.
Great to hear from you as ever - all the best - TMF
Must . . . win . . . LOTTO. Sweet ride😍.
Good work, Mr. Flyer, 👌 keep it up. 😎
P.S: The WTF face and asymmetric fairing have long grown on me. 😁
Funny how that happens once you sling a leg over eh?
I commute on my S1000RR. Ride 2.5hours to Phillip Island and do the occasional trackday and ride home. All in comfort. Heated grips, cruise control, Storage bags. What's not to love.
+Inane Observations Exactly!
Ha.. This video started by riding past my childhood home and hunting grounds.. Considering I left there over thirty five years ago, it was a pleasure to see a familiar strip of road that it seems I still know like the back of my hand.. Nice one.
Brilliant!
Good luck! Tricky choice this buying a new bike game when there are so many great bikes out there!
Excellent, been looking forward to this one for a while
Good stuff...thanks for watching - TMF
I want this bike!
Great review thanks. I'm glad to hear that the ride position is comfy. I'm considering one now.
Well it's all relative of course - it's not like a Lay-z-boy.....
GREAT REVIEW BROTHER, I got a 2014 S1000 and I love it. Its my daily driver, so so comfortable, i can't do that with my 1299. The element that the BMW is missing the exotic factor that the duc has.
Yes I 100% agree on that, one of each like you've done is defo the way to go....like your style!
I am moving to Germany, any recs on the best track days, already got DRE in Italy, one in Germany with Focusedevents and one in Spain with PACEDAYZ. Would love to hear your advice
Great presentaiton!
Amazing piece of kit. German Kraut magic.
Thank you Mark - your time will come!
Thanks for your openness. Really appreciate! Have a great weekend.
No worries - you too Stefan...
They're superb bikes. Love my 2015 (non-Euro4). It's just so smooth. And you should feel the power of that engine above 9k. King Kong comes out.
As long as it's only King Kong.....
Awesome machines ,, never rode one but couple of my mates have them ,, wished I'd kept my Zx10r but there you go ,, good review as usual ,, Shane thanks
Cheers Shane - good to hear from you as ever...TMF
I was also convinced you could tour on it although I think I'd take the XR, still pretty nippy.
Your reviews are awesome, most other reviews assume a 1000 lives on the track
Thanks - I try an keep my reviews relevant for everyday riders (like myself!)...
What a lovely review old chap. Thank you sir. I will be buying one here in Australia. Thanks govner.
Nice one Reg,....
Those leavers are adjustable. You can see the twizzley knobs on the leavers
:0)
Prince Fancybum they aren't that's just the cable adjuster on the clutch, I've got hp levers on mine and on closest setting they still are a long way away. Have u tried the r1? Major prob with them is the throttle
1 massive downfall it doesn't have both for 2017 and 2018 is the cable clutch, dont know why they didnt put one on like the GSA's. Thankfully the new 2019 has a hydraulic clutch
great video and an awesome bike.
if you could just pic one... panigale or RR?
looking forward to the high road video tomorrow 😉
cheers Tom
Panigale - There's just something about the Ducati that makes it special, the BMW is lovely - possibly the best sports bike I've ridden (and I rode the R1 today) but it is lacking that certain something for me....I am of course biased having already shelled out on my Panigale!
Another good video, need to check your camera though really bad blurry spot at times! 😉
Darn flies on the lens!
Great Review as always :)
Thank you RockyGames, appreciate the kind comment...
How long before the mention of Panigale ownership?
Love the BMW! Wish they did a 600 for me tho, i think a litre is a bit to big for me currently.
Yeah like BMW's version of the R6 - that would be brill....
yeah, I'm waiting for my R6 to be delivered to the dealership.... Cannot wait.
OOoo very nice - I'm hoping to ride the new one in the next few weeks, did the R1 today, I think the R6 would suit me better....
yeah I think the R1 is too much for me right now, so I went for the R6 and the more I look the more I become excited and keep getting happier!
Yes you could well be right James - thanks for watching - TMF
Hey TMF, can you please do a current top ten of bikes you have ridden? I know that you ride different categories of bikes but it would be very interesting to have a subjective comparison for fun.
+Rupert Exists cheers Rupert - may be one for Winter!
Your time will come Sam - take it easy on the new Street Triple, fabulous machine....
That is all three of the BMW's I like, The three I am considering. S1000RR sports with chip, K1600gtle and the super sexy little g310r for those tiny roads and some off road fun. Thanks for the reviews
@Chris Varrie Forget the Helicopters m8, I live in the Dales. Watch out for the bikes they have. Their painted a nice stealthy black with little police symbols and high tech camera system, Extremely fast. Just like the days when they had the highly tuned Subaru's patrolling between white scar and Hawes.
:0)
Great review!
Keep them coming 😊
Thank you.
Will do - stay tuned!
Lovely review, awesome bike. Thanks!
Thank you....
Got one being delivered next week same spec - was supposed to get it the day of lockdown.
Congratulations!
Hp forged wheels?
Gsxr b No, standards.
@@ur2slob724 Turns out it does have the forged wheels - result! BTW, I'm also a man called james...depends which device I'm using.
james donoghue should same hp on them if there are 👍
thx for the video. your reviews are extremely helpful for real life riding. how would you compare s1000rr to fireblade comfort wise?
+Hyundo Park Very similar - for sports bikes, and coming from a panigale, they are both pretty comfortable. Thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
I have been looking at RST jackets and trousers based upon your past reviews. Can you please tell me which leather jacket and trousers you are wearing in this video?
+BoneheadNW RST camo jeans and can't remember which jacket - think it might be my Furygan....
I believe it may be this one: www.thevisorshop.com/en/RST-Blade-II-Leather-Jacket-1845-White/m-20270.aspx
Ah yes, that's the one! Excellent jacket....
Great reviews. Would you say this bike would be comfortable enough at 50yo to long range tour through Europe?
Personally, no.....
Nothing to do with age, how fit is the 50 yo? I have an RR and it is absolutely ok to tour Europe, 300 miles a day easy, take brakes etc. I did France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria on a CBR600!
Great review, thanks. I still love the Duc’s though!
think I'll go see Aldo..good bloke..although I did help him sell 2 GS's in as many days!...good review as per usual!
Thank you sir....and say hi to Aldo from me :0)
Sounds like it still had the 9krpm restrictor set?
+candymintz :0)
never ridden one but i have got a feeling i will like it.:D how is it comparing to Panigale 1299 comfort vise day to day.
In my opinion this is very much more "comfortable" than a Panigale.....doesn't look as nice though does it :0)
it looks nice somehow i am still loving the look :) but i heard that new generation coming 2019 ;)
That's the fastest I seen you ride in your reviews.
200 HP sounds wonderful...but.......
It is an amazing bike....but in my opinion too much for the road, the temptation to use the power is too much to resist and that won't end well!
so would you say that all you like about this bike would apply to the single R bike , with the single being even more comfortable, having now ridden both.
+Jim V Actually no, to me the RR felt faster (maybe due riding position), even more refined and surgical. Also I far prefer the looks of the Sports bike. I'd seriously have an RR but the R was just a bit "meh" to me.....just my opinion of course!!
Great review it's inspired me to book a test ride 🏁👍
Enjoy (and take spare underpants)....
Any plans for riding the new 2019 BMW s1000rr. Apparently it's getting more HP, shedding some weight and re design.
Great review and take care TMF.
Yes I hope too when it’s available, love the new looks!
@@TheMissendenFlyer
Me too.
I'm always open to constructive criticism - funnily enough I bought a new mic (a Rode) only today!
great review any issues with heat
Thanks Brian - and no, none that I noticed (but then I ride a Panigale!)....
Great review, cheers mate
Thanks for watching and for stopping by! All the best - TMF
The bike is like a rocket and the engine opens up nicely.
Agreed....
As you tested both BMW & Firebade. What do you buy , and why. Many thanks
Difficult one - BMW was more refined, so would probably go there...thanks for watching! - TMF
