I watch just the clip I'll n the video and it's so true what you said. She did not seem to be defensive, she seemed hurt and just trying to explain herself.
Wait..Tyra got her fro on and she sat her brown butt there watching those ignorant judges come for another Africana?. Then she tried to play good by calling her defensive.
XxGot7BTSFanxX Yes, Tyra got a whole fro on top of her head and telling yaya that her style is not fashionable nor cultural appropriate. As long as we wear our inches that’s acceptable, but Afros and braids is off the market not buying into that European lie. Glad we are woke now verse back then. Amera Lanergia rock your natural beauty to the fullest hunny. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@@clchawaii09 Can you blame her for feeling comfortable enough to say such stuff? When even Tyra later on said _"there's a difference between explaining yourself and being defensive"._ Tyra, as a woman with african roots, should have defend Yaya at this point from this shitty _"trying to prove your africaness"_ comment. But no, even Tyra threw Yaya under the bus. I'm not going to excuse that ladies beyond stupid comment - but I also blame Tyra for letting such ridiculous comments pass.
I feel like Tyra got intimidated by beautiful, strong and confident African American women. She seemed to always find a way to put them down or eliminate them. Tyra is a narcissist.
okaygirl141 Tyra couldn’t understand why designers liked Naomi more. Naomi’s face & features were/are gorgeous & she was the better high fashion model. Tyra is colorist.
Tyra's afro is ridiculous. She is the one who looks bad. Yaya is way more beautiful and amazing than her. Viola Davis... I'd go gay for her. She is stunning.
Yeah and ironically other races took from our culture and benefited from it. Love to hate us but not our hairstyles, plump lips, brown skin tones, attire, music etc..Those things make up us..some folks are just idiots..
Im not worried about other cultures. Im worried about my own. Black people are an oppressed people. We are disliked by a lot of people, treated unfairly, even murdered for little to no reason. Treated like garbage yet contributed so much to this planet and not get recognized and praised for it nearly as much as we should. That's the angle my comment was coming from.
What the fuck is this world coming to Tyra clearly stood their with a Afro how much of a Hypocrate could she have been she is clearly wearing a Afro what is wrong this would is coming to a end people better stop keeping their mouths closed and speak up for what is right how dare Tyra Banks she is old news anyway I can stand her no more she is judgemental and clearly got her show going she kisses white people's butts.
The fashion industry is ran by whites. So she had to tone down her African heritage to conform white standards of beauty. So they can sell their white products to the African community
Agree, why we can not embrace our own heritage in public instead of hiding what God created. Yes, the industry will accept someone with European roots over African roots it’s sad. Back then how Tyra gonna tell ya ya to stop wearing her natural hair but got a whole fro on top of her head.
As if she shouldn't be defensive at a white women telling her that her blackness is too much! She wasn't even as defensive as would have been justified for that!!! Tyra clearly wanted to knock Yaya down a peg.
I also remember that it too. It was my favorite season. I loved tocara bc she wasn’t a stick. She was STUNNING. With this scene, I literally remember my sister and I looked at each other and said, “did Tyra really just tell her she can’t be ‘too black’??? That’s messed up.”
YoungSimba We shouldn't have to live up to society's European standards of beauty. I have relatives who come in all shades and backgrounds. But it hurts when I see my relatives and other fellow Africans bleaching their skin just because they feel they're not pretty or good looking enough to be in their own skin. And this is all because of the media's and standard of beauty. They say we have to look like Beyonce and Rihanna in order to make it if we're black which is sad. I won't tell anybody what to do with their skin or body, but I feel like if you're trying to change who you are because of what the media says you should be then you're letting them control your life and making you feel insecure. To me real beauty is embracing the skin you were born in and not conforming to what others have to say.
Chronicle Speaks me too. I was always with ya ya and I love how she keep getting jobs after the season ended. I remembered she was pissed. Also when one photographer or model was very racist to one of the girls in another season. I think they were in Italy but can't remember. Tyra and the others did not stick up for her.
Them Naomie moments had me on the floor. So they were telling YaYa the less African you look the better and Tyra sitting there saying nothing against it.
Tyra is a product of buying into white supremacy. She would always go on and on giving compliments to unattractive or average at best ww but always less encouraging to bw. Do not like Tyra. She is phony and overly made up. She allowed Janice Dickinson and others like her to say inappropriate things to the young bw. I am glad people are starting to see how Tyra is
We didn't SEE the entire process only an episode each week. Yaya was s bit annoying cuz she was all pro AFRICAN, but got offend when she wore that cowboy outfit. She was arrogant in a covert way.
Indi Genius arrogance can be covert? No one wants to see someone trying to suppress the fact that they think they are great. Thinking you are great is not the only state of arrogance
For years Tyra Banks pinned Naomi to wall as "The Bad Guy." So as time passed, and we all grew up learning of the trials and tribulations that come with being black in anti black spaces, my my have the tables turned. In 2019 we see Naomi being a mentor to today's top black models, to the point of walking the runways alongside them, bringing eyes to the fashion industry of Africa/ Africa in general. Meanwhile what the f*ck is Tyra doing?!
During that time Yaya was everything that Tyra wasn't. Yaya knew who she was and embraced it regardless of who didn't like it. Yaya didn't compromise her Beauty to fit into the standards of this world. I applude Yaya for standing firm and representing us so well. Shame on Tyra for not celebrating this sista.
Tyra was showing those girls who you have to become to succeed amongst those with power. none of those people on the panel are their original selves. the industry is a cruel beast and unimaginable personal sacrifices are dropped on those who reach her levels and above. but you also end up tough as nails.
Baby Girl I watched the episode back in the day.. and it had nothing to do with her hair they were talking about the cowboy outfit she was wearing. People always trying to make shit up.. tyra NEVER try to shame black women for having natural hair.. when she had her talk show she was one of the person who brought awareness to the subject and push the natural hair agenda.. but whatever y'all black females will always be the first to hate on another black woman while talking about so called black girl magic girl bye👋
Yaya was right. It was a cheap Kente fabric and quite frankly, although she is African that fabric is not proper to her country... had Tyra checked her facts, she would know that Kente is Ghanaian, AND that if you want to be ANTM then you need to be relatable. And most girls watching are "au naturel" and can relate to Yaya' look. I just feel that Tyra was lowkey jealous of Yaya who was obviously spinning circles around Tyra in a fro. I hated that scene and I agree that Yaya had to be defensive because people get mad when we embrace our roots. 🇬🇭🇬🇭
@@jckholmes9194 Kente is from Ghana. We weave it but others started imitating it by printing the designs. The authentic one is woven in Ghana. I know the ones you are talking about and Kente is different from those
Y'all are doing too much talking about how Ghana's been doing it for centuries when Ghana is not even centuries old. Lolol There are authentic indigenous African clothes and patterns kente clothe ain't one of them though.
''Amara'' is an ethnic name in Ethiopia and it means ''free people'''....and Amharic is the language of Amara people and Ethiopia's official language. Be proud of yourself Amara
Tyra looked pissed at the "African" comment, and it seemed like Tyra was just going along with what the fashion industry was saying. It pissed me off, too, even at a young age. Yaya has always been gorgeous.
Tyra used to say a lot of things that I question to this day. I remember the one contestant who had a gap and was very proud of her gap and Tyra literally told her to go get it closed because it wasn't "fashionable". Now I see all these models with gaps and some of her model friends had gaps eg. Kate Moss and it makes me wonder about her. A lot of the top model girls talk about how they were left to fend for themselves after the show was over and about how they were sold an illusion. I'm not trying to bring Tyra down, just question some of the things she does
Hlumelo Petros that's why I cannot stand Tyra. She's full of sh it. She criticized ppl but when you criticize her she gets all upset. She says ppl tore her down in her early modelling years now she's doing the same to other young girls. Tyra is full of shit
@1:15 Tyra’s body language shows that the lady judge’s comment made her uncomfortable .. so I’m not sure why Tyra didn’t speak against that ignorant comment, but instead against Yaya. I also watched that season of ANTM, and didn’t realize how ignorant and offensive those judge’s comments were. - It is truly a different time, and we are definitely more “woke” than we’ve ever been! Had that been an airing in today’s day, those judges would be issuing an apology.. hell, I don’t even think they’ll be brave enough to say it.
Talisha C TYRA told them to say that, janice Dickinson said Tyra give them the cruel things to tell the girls then She would come in and comfort them to seem like the good guy.
Okay so we get criticized for wearing OUR HAIR natural THEN we get criticized for wearing a weave THEN we get criticized for wearing a wiG...what the fukk what can a Black Woman do to "NOT"be criticized these days? Or is that even possible?💯💯
Jazznextdoorr I've seen the entire clip and I think this video takes it out of context. They are not criticizing her for her natural hair or trying to embrace her African culture. They were criticizing her for trying to be different than the stereotypical "African" by wearing a cowboy hat instead of an fake African themed hat. Still unfair, but for different reasons.
I hope Amara keeps her natural look because she has a platform right now that will pave the way for Black girls to embrace their naturalness and also to push the boundaries that the industry impose on black women
You are very wrong there. We do it because we love and embrace different styles we don't always wear the same things all the time we like to switch it up sometimes plus getting certain types of fake hair such as box braids could actually help grow out hair if some of us have hair problems or some of us just like being different and actually like the way it makes us look and the way it makes some of us us feel .-Have a blessed Day.
Destiny Bennett :/ Some are like that.... some aren't like that at ALL. I personally know 'victims' (use that term loosely) of self-hatred. It is incredibly unfortunate to hear and see supposed 'women' of color compare their strands and locs to others. I've definitely heard so-called grown adults talk poorly about how one's texture isn't "good". That "nappy hair NEEDS a perm". You NEED to be quiet. You NEED to work on your internal struggles. How it starts with little girls. "Kiddie perms" and miniature sized pressing combs. They are taught to be ashamed of what naturally grows out of their own heads. Talking about "good hair" equating it to wavy or loose curly hair... What THE HELL?!?!?!?!?! IT'S NOT RIGHT. NOT RIGHT AT ALL.
I thought Tyra was going to stand up for her. She had every right to be defensive. What they said was unattractive and disrespectful! Tyra should have checked them, not her. I can't stand Tyra Fakes!
Ever noticed how different Tyra and Naomi's approaches are when mentoring young up and coming black models? Tyra is a great example of a black woman who, after being subjected to years and years of racism in the industry, has internalized that racism and further perpetuated it through her critiques of black models that were unapologetically themselves. WHEREAS Naomi wants the black girls she mentors to develop the type of self-confidence and ruthlessness that will allow them to survive in a racist industry. And I'm not typing this in a mean-spirited way, I understand both Tyra and Naomi's points of view... Tyra doesn't want race to be a hindrance to the girls and wants to teach them versatility.
Wow my mind is blown by that episode. Yaya was literally seconds away from breaking down and crying! That clip was very cringe worthy. Especially since Tyra was wearing an afro! Times gave definitely changed
Not mine either. I was heated and totally agitated how Tyra appeared offended at the judge attacking Yaya for her African-ness but then on the same hand Tyra turned right around and co-signed the judge's criticism with that passive suggestion to not look so natural because "anybody can look like that", but think more glamorous as if being natural can't be glamorous. Ugh she pissed me all the way off!
hahaha....girl... skin that absorbs sunlight, hair that defies gravity. we da motherfucking Shit girllll...if they dont like it, they can suck my ass LOLOLOL
The sooner we realize that there is nothing wrong with African swag, the better off we will be. We celebrate ourselves now, no Need to look at Europeans and compare because we are not the same. We are on a spectrum of our own, and it's beautiful.
Live and learn right. Hindsight helps us to become a better version of ourselves each and every day. Never stop learning, never stop improving, never stop growing.
Wow, that totally went over my head back then😮 more likely because I was young and thought that's what the judges was there for to tell them the truth that would benefits them down the road. plus I been looking at Tyra different lately and my ass always thought she was so down to earth😫 THAT BISHHHH!!!
Facts! Me too. I remember this episode very much so, and I was 15 at the time. So grateful this never changed my viewpoint on my African roots and how I choose to look! Smh
Me too! I loved Tyra back in the days of her talk show/ANTM now when I see old clips of her she seems to have low self esteem and she’s also passive aggressive. So nope, she’s done.
That's real! Once we know better, we do better! We all have cringe-worthy moments in our past or things we let slide because we weren't privy back then. I remember not liking it originally but now watching it again, I hate it!
I watched this season as a kid and I kinda remember this episode. But seeing it now that I'm in my 20's is like WOOAAHH. Wow times have really changed! Sadly many people (Black and non Black, men and women) thought like that back then (Natural Hair wasn’t as popular in the early 2000’s like now) and some still think like this TODAY hence Young Goofywood's comments on Amara's fro not being "elegant". Personally, I LOVE my natural, thick, kinky, coily 4c hair, especially when I stretch it out in a big fro :) wouldn't have it anyway else. Returning natural has been one of the best decisions I've made.
TheKendroShow Very well said. I'm not natural like you, but I love my hair & the kinks from it. My mom & grand-mom, always told me, to never be ashamed of it, whether it's braids, perms, weave, or wigs.
TheKendroShow BUT Tyra has a diverse crop of winners , eva caramel COMPLEXION with hazel eyes, Daniel a southern girl, Saleisha stowers a light skin girl Teyana a chocolate girl Krista another chocolate girl n a row.... If anything the show doesn't embrace WOMAN of colors HAIR !!! BUT THEY EMBRACE WOMAN OF COLOR COMPARED TO OTHER MODELING SHOWS
The natural comments wasn't about her hair. the word natural had a different connotation in 2004. This was before # movements and melanin pages. The natural comments were about her make up and presentation. But yes, Tyra's anti-african comments were out of pocket.
Javan uHnah They didn’t have to specifically comment on her hair to know it was ALSO about her hair. Her whole vibe from head to toe was “natural”. They weren’t ONLY talking about her not wearing makeup & her African style. Her hair was definitely included in that even though the judges (from what we know and what was edited) were also referring to her hair.
Yaya was well ahead of her time, and when you are a pioneer sometimes you have to catch the slack that comes with it. She paved the way for people like Amara to SHINE. Well done yaya! Though I want to shame Tyra, she was still growing and trying to understand her own personal beliefs and blackness. Not an excuse but I'm sure if she looked back on this clip she would be ashamed of her ignorance.
Damn Tyra. You put another black woman down for embracing who she is and loving her natural self. Wow i missed that part. Not a good look Tyra not at all. Smdh.
I looooved that season, but HATED that part. If my African/natural makes YOU uncomfortable. Guess what? That's a discussion you have to have with self. And Janice Dickinson as a judge? I wouldn't take criticism from anybody who don't have their original face. 😂Js Love my fellow Natural Sistas! You're beautiful as you are!
KeepinitRealLiz, yea I was like 11 or 12 when I saw that episode so I didn't understand it, now that I'm older and alot more conscious Im offended by it
I wasn't young when that Cycle 3 of ANTM aired I was 29 the same age as Tyra and it was difficult to watch Tyra deal with Yaya in the manner she was the entire season. It made me less of a Tyra fan and my sister and I have clowned Tyra ever since....Yaya was our choice to win but we KNEW the producers would not go that route...anyway. Times have changed -- I don't think she would be dealt with like that today for expressing her individuality and culture
Nahhh I had to comment again, it's crazy how "asleep" we were back then, and now shit like that can never go over our heads... Thank God for enlightenment
This is the truth. I remember that season and didn't realize how harsh they were back then. I guess loving myself now made me realize the hate of black features back then because man it was so cringey to watch.
Ok here's the real tea. Tyra Banks was told many years ago that her nose was too ethnic. So Tyra got a nose job and she went on to get a lot of modeling jobs . She sold her soul long time ago!.Tyra is a mixed African American woman. Lighter skinned and green eyes are some indication of her racial identity.
How, she was wearing an afro too in the same video. I think she just wanted yaya to be more glamorous rather than plane jane. Wearing an afro is not the problem. Wearing it in a loose ponytail with ill fitted jeans is.
I didn't see anything wrong with what Yaya was wearing ...But yet Tyra was standing wearing an afro wig while she was judging Yaya🙄..Maybe Yaya should've just wore a tank top ,some jeans and her afro without the hat..
Will ask me no Tyra Banks did end up marrying a snowflake mail with one or two beautiful snowflake children I'm just saying yes she is a real sell-out all that talk about someone appearance and when she's black as a damn trunk goal herself I can stand to be around her cuz she would have got a punched in her mouth and I would have had some Louboutins on my hand wish you would have deserved to get that punch in her mouth Tyra Banks this is for you you are what they call a damn Uncle tongue black b**** you want to be so Superior but you have to answer to someone to above all of us you should be a shame of yourself putting another sister down you did not have to go there you acted like you was God gifted I used to look at your shows back in the days and you were very criticism remember for you Tyra Banks you used to be big as a bull in the world makes fun of you now don't you feel that what they put down where you should have paid attention when you put that sister down that's a hurting thing what goes up must comes down peace
Tyra was always sus to me. And NOT bc she dates white men. I remember watching ANTM as a kid and she almost never praised the black girls the way they deserved to be!!
Me either. I would always have respect for her for being one of the biggest black models in the industry but I dont think I want to support her anymore. I was gonna watch the new ANTM but not anymore
Wow, I dont remember all that was said during Yaya time on ANTM. YES, They totally disrespect the culture. Yaya is a beautiful black woman and I'm glad her career is flourishing
I wish more black women would embrace their beauty...I'm so upset with my early self for not knowing how beautiful we all are naturally with out even making the effort to be...
Empress Bahbie my favorite season. This episode pissed me off. I remember it clear as day. Like how dare you disrespect her like that. Yaya has always been a natural girl and will always be. The fact that they tried to make her feel bad, unworthy, unpretty because of her culture is just awful. Then had he audacity to scold her on being defensive when they were just highly disrespectful! Uggh now I’m mad lol.
I love, love Ya Ya. And yes, she was being shot down by the judges because she was proud of her natural hair. They didn't like that she was so proud of herself identity and her beautiful natural hair. They have an unspoken permission that says, "Until we give you the permission to be proud, please don't." That's not only Hollywood, that's white America. Peace
Summer D well wearing different hairstyle is really not a bad thing , Taylor swift is white she mostly wear straight hair , because taylor swift look better with straight hair and straight hair more glamorous
random stuff straight hair is more glamorous in your opinion. That's what everyone is complaining about dumb ass people who have a European standard if beauty and can't see that natural is glamorous.
Aisha Maryam , I cried too . I can’t believe I didn’t pick that up when I watched. I was a kid then but as a grown woman, this will not be tolerated. Tyra is cancelled. That’s why she hasn’t been a lasting name in the industry like Naomi. Always complaining about how others treated her and she treated Yaya like this to prove something to white people.
this hurt me too now that I'm older. It hurt more coming from tyra herself. I didn't expect the other judges to understand yaya, that was a given in this situation trust. Yaya had every right to be defensive you can tell she wanted cry🖤🖤👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾love yaya for being who she is. Overall I ain't mad I haven't cared for tyra over the years it is what it is💁🏾♀️
I hate when i wear my fro and people say. ✊oh are you a black panther or something .... How about im just simply wearing my hair how it grows out my freakin scalp!!!!!!
You must have no clue how many black women there are in the world. It's absolutely much lower than 90%. This is my profession and your extremely false statistic is problematic. Every time I meet anyone that says the things you just said, they're ignorant and very misinformed, not to mention uncultured. Don't give opinions you know nothing about.
Nia Buchanan a full temporary afro....its just a front for the cameras and an to try and act like she can relate....how often have u seen her rocking an afro on a regular bases.....she would never be on the cover of sports illustrated doing this.....when she was younger she never came in the businesses rocking an afro....how do I know!? I KNOW!
Nia Buchanan I thought the same thing. Like "But bitch you got on a fucking afro too!" "Why are you cosigning with discriminatory fuckery these folks are saying and doing to Yaya?" But let them have said something sideways about a chubby girl.....OH HEEELLLL NOO! ALL HELL would have broken loose! 😒😒😒
I never realized how wrong that was watching that ANTM episode as a kid - I did a big chop last month to start from scratch and love what grows from my head. I love it and I've been getting compliments from it. Best decision made thus far. Also, Amara is gorgeous!
Ojanique Good luck on your journey sis! And remember it's your hair so do what you want and best for your hair MAKE YOUR OWN RULES!!! You don't have to buy/use the latest and hottest products neither OUR MOM/GRANDMA DIDN'T! You can save yourself from becoming a product junky by not getting caught up in these RUclips videos talking about such and such products that claim to be great for natural hair. Most of them had it sent to them by the company to be product tester. Just do the following but plz also do your own research. 1. Use less heat 2. Get regularly trim(depends on when your hair need it) 3. Protective styling ( hair grow better because you're not messing with it so therefore your hair not stressing it in return retaining length) 4.deep condition after every wash Do a protein treatment once a month or every other month. Don't forget to use condition after shampoo. 5. MOST IMPORTANTLY..... MOISTURIZE YOU HAIR!!!!!!KEEP IT MOISTURIZE
I don’t think Tyra was talking about Yaya’s natural hair. She was talking about that regular ass outfit. Why would Tyra be talking about natural hair when she got a full blown Afro?
Yeah that's what I interpreted back in the day. I think Tyra represented afro and glamorous while Yaya represented afro and girl next door. Although Yaya is more beautiful than Tyra, she was not more glamorous. You can still wear your natural hair and look like a model. Her looked needed more style than message.
This is one of the reasons why I stopped watching ANTM. I saw too much of the propaganda they were pushing and it pissed me off. One girl already had short hair, (really textured )hair and they shaved it off for a “smooth” look. Pissed me off. Yaya was always one of my inspirations on the show.
Yaya DaCosta was so #WOKE back in ANTM Cycle 3, so I'm not surprised that she's so well-spoken, open-minded, and more wise even nowadays! Even villains from ANTM like Eva Marcille and Bianca Golden (Cycle 9) are woke these days and I would've never expected that from watching them in their cycles! 🙌🏾👌🏾👏🏾👍🏾✊🏾
I think Tyra needs to get called out for what she said to Yaya and apologize.
Why? that happened like 15 years agos.
Markai Bombness because they're all about drama.

Deebah exactly. To think she had fro on that same day too. That woman is twisted in the head

Right I didn’t understand that at all.

Her skin speaks for itself. So glad glad she said what she said and how she said it: cool, calm, educated and savy.
Straightening it is more trying to prove something than just being yourself. How about she simply finds beauty in what she was given?
The Naomi Campbell slides are killing me 😂😂
Naomi would of said something . 😂😂😂
Me too ...lol

Period.
Truth
Waaaay over their heads!
Yaya is way prettier than the judges. Yaya has this innocent look and pure heart. The judges seem so commercial and impersonal.
Black women embracing the more natural side of them seem to trigger some people. I wonder why?
It reminds them of the God factor

And then Tyra is wearing a fake afro while demeaning this beautiful black woman. I'm glad I stopped watching long before yaya's season.
Right. Shes wearing as a prop. Not as a celebration of Black hair.

Tyra complaining about yayas “naturalness” while rocking an afro🤦🏿♀️👀🧐.
that was literally the first thing i said to myself. before she even opened her mouth. smhhh...a walking , talking contradiction. a fool
A fake afro though
Exactlyyy
Please watch the show again. She didn't attack her afro.
She's a jealous witch! Crazy woman
People always have a problem when you embrace your African beauty and heritage
Yeah and ironically other races took from our culture and benefited from it. Love to hate us but not our hairstyles, plump lips, brown skin tones, attire, music etc..Those things make up us..some folks are just idiots..
True!!!!
Im not worried about other cultures. Im worried about my own. Black people are an oppressed people. We are disliked by a lot of people, treated unfairly, even murdered for little to no reason. Treated like garbage yet contributed so much to this planet and not get recognized and praised for it nearly as much as we should. That's the angle my comment was coming from.
yana212 especially some black people (men)!
Yaya is a beautiful Afro-Brazilian woman. I hate seeing that clip of ANTM.. That made me cringe
The fashion industry is ran by whites. So she had to tone down her African heritage to conform white standards of beauty. So they can sell their white products to the African community
She’s not Brazilian
Agree, why we can not embrace our own heritage in public instead of hiding what God created. Yes, the industry will accept someone with European roots over African roots it’s sad. Back then how Tyra gonna tell ya ya to stop wearing her natural hair but got a whole fro on top of her head.
she’s Dominican
Amanda C she has Brazilian heritage
If Naomi was actually on that panel she would’ve SHUT IT DOWN!!!!!
Ohhhh we know!
Oh I agree!!
"To prove your African-ness"
GTFO.
As if she shouldn't be defensive at a white women telling her that her blackness is too much! She wasn't even as defensive as would have been justified for that!!! Tyra clearly wanted to knock Yaya down a peg.
Her skin and hair proves her
"African-ness" alone, she literally doesn't have to try🤦🏾♀️ those judges just mad ignorant
That makes me angry everytime!
Black is beautiful
Anti-Blackness. Anti-African 🤦🏾♀️
And tyra was sitting there with a whole fro on her head talking shit smh😤
Monica Lyons Exactly! I'm confused 😳
A WHOLE FRO! LIKE BITCH??
Monica Lyons favorite comment!!!!
She's sick in the head
Monica Lyons a WHOLE FRO!!! SMH 🤦🏽♀️
Maybe there is a big reason why Naomi couldn't stand her.
Olympo Contreras exactly cause Naomi had no beef with all the other black Models so Tyra must have done something
Tyra is a mean girl but Naomi is that bitch.
@@mobrown7594 please, naomi is a bitch
I remember this episode of ANTM. Very hurtful to watch. Glad Amara is standing for her roots and she is so pretty. I love it. Good video Sis
I also remember that it too. It was my favorite season. I loved tocara bc she wasn’t a stick. She was STUNNING. With this scene, I literally remember my sister and I looked at each other and said, “did Tyra really just tell her she can’t be ‘too black’??? That’s messed up.”
YoungSimba Fellow American Cameroonian here. We are beautiful people and I embrace my shade and my culture just like you.
YoungSimba And you're welcome.☺️
Chronicle Speaks me too. I was always with ya ya and I love how she keep getting jobs after the season ended. I remembered she was pissed. Also when one photographer or model was very racist to one of the girls in another season. I think they were in Italy but can't remember. Tyra and the others did not stick up for her.
Them Naomie moments had me on the floor. So they were telling YaYa the less African you look the better and Tyra sitting there saying nothing against it.
And while she wore a 'fro...I think that was the worst part for me.
Naomi kept quiet too 😒
Nah they were straight up racist. ‘Riding a giraffe’ is 100% racist.
And a white woman insulting her Africanness while wearing a tan. The irony
I've never liked Tyra, she's fake. This was so offensive, Tyra should have stood in solidarity with her.
With her huge fake fro.
I am glad people are starting to see how Tyra is
@@mercedes7811 Thank you!!👏👏👏✊👊💪
@okaygirl141 or so you think
They said she was rude... They were rude af
Jacqulin Simmons yeah that was straight manipulation
We didn't SEE the entire process only an episode each week. Yaya was s bit annoying cuz she was all pro AFRICAN, but got offend when she wore that cowboy outfit. She was arrogant in a covert way.
Indi Genius arrogance can be covert? No one wants to see someone trying to suppress the fact that they think they are great. Thinking you are great is not the only state of arrogance
nltcraze Yes. Arrogance can be covert to answer your question.
And Tyra was wearing an afro, just awful.
That's the irony
ramcurequeeny but it was still a fro whether it's natural or not
That was PAINFUL to watch.
True😢😓
I felt the same💔 I have NOT been able to be a fan of Tyra... NOPE!!
That's why Naomi Campbell don't mess with Tyra still! Smh
Grace Turner but she calls Naomi the bully the absolute cheek of her man
Lee Sto she still doesn’t like Tara even though there’s no competition between them
Naomi wouldn't allow THAT!! She would have set the record straight with those judges!!
Team Naomi never a kiss ass
I know Tyra wasn’t saying think more “glamour” and less “natural” with that unnatural natural ass wig..
Right????!!!!! Right!!!!????
@Krystal Henry cutting their hair and forcing them to look different. Some would even cry. Looking back, that was just awful.
I’m glad light skinned tears aren’t seen over dark/brown skinned pain anymore
Building ModelLand, which we all know is going to crash and burn.
Exactly...
I was disgusted at Eva for laughing👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾
that’s why Tyra didn’t like her, was probably jealous.
Tyra was way out of line especially being a black woman.
Tyra been canceled in my books
Yep, same.
Me too
Yes when she yelled at Tiffany I was done.
Tyra went too far when she yelled at Tiffany .That did it for me too ..Tyra is canceled to the fullest.
Yes a long time ago!
Tyra always rubbed me the wrong way. She is a disgrace. For both, not taking up for her and not defending her.
Wait a minute Tyra hair was in a Afro lol
Tyra was showing those girls who you have to become to succeed amongst those with power. none of those people on the panel are their original selves. the industry is a cruel beast and unimaginable personal sacrifices are dropped on those who reach her levels and above. but you also end up tough as nails.
CarmeloValoy I know hundreds of black women and NOT one worship Tyra Banks. You may need to go to a video praising Tyra to make that comment bro.
And also being part of the problem
Baby Girl I watched the episode back in the day.. and it had nothing to do with her hair they were talking about the cowboy outfit she was wearing. People always trying to make shit up.. tyra NEVER try to shame black women for having natural hair.. when she had her talk show she was one of the person who brought awareness to the subject and push the natural hair agenda.. but whatever y'all black females will always be the first to hate on another black woman while talking about so called black girl magic girl bye👋
Black women's hair is the only hair that defies gravity 👊
Renee Myricks speak truth!
rose dickerson AMEN!
Grows like nature; towards the sun
That's POWERFUL ish right there ❤
Renee Myricks yes ✊
Yaya was right. It was a cheap Kente fabric and quite frankly, although she is African that fabric is not proper to her country... had Tyra checked her facts, she would know that Kente is Ghanaian, AND that if you want to be ANTM then you need to be relatable. And most girls watching are "au naturel" and can relate to Yaya' look. I just feel that Tyra was lowkey jealous of Yaya who was obviously spinning circles around Tyra in a fro. I hated that scene and I agree that Yaya had to be defensive because people get mad when we embrace our roots. 🇬🇭🇬🇭
Kente is actually an import from Europe. It wasn't selling there so they took it to Ghana where it sold like hotcakes.
@@jckholmes9194 Kente is from Ghana. We weave it but others started imitating it by printing the designs. The authentic one is woven in Ghana.
I know the ones you are talking about and Kente is different from those
Nadroj Anwar you’re talking about ankara wax prints. Kente cloth is west African. They’ve been weaving it for centuries
Nadroj Anwar *snort* that’s a lie.
Y'all are doing too much talking about how Ghana's been doing it for centuries when Ghana is not even centuries old. Lolol
There are authentic indigenous African clothes and patterns kente clothe ain't one of them though.
Amara is beautiful! WOW
😆
It’s hard to see a black girl like Tyra Banks say something like that. What a hypocrite! Less natural and more glamour? What a sell out!
situpeh antm made me very much dislike her.. i still watched it tho smh
''Amara'' is an ethnic name in Ethiopia and it means ''free people'''....and Amharic is the language of Amara people and Ethiopia's official language.
Be proud of yourself Amara
In Igbo language it mean most 'beautiful'and in another Nigerian tongue it means 'all knowing' Africans have the most beautiful names
@Omara Oliver In a Nigerian language your name Omara means knowledgeable
Actually it is spelled "Amhara"
@@brendannokam4167 in the igbo language which i speak fluently, Amaka means beautiful and Amara means grace
_thats not her real name or her real Afro._
Tyra looked pissed at the "African" comment, and it seemed like Tyra was just going along with what the fashion industry was saying. It pissed me off, too, even at a young age. Yaya has always been gorgeous.
Fabalocious Dee Yeah she should have won but maybe its good she didnt after tyras and the judges offensive remarks...Ya Ya is absolutely gorgeous!
Love me some yaya. Thank you for doing your research on the Tyra clip. yes. call a spade a spade. bravo Empressive!
yep lived Ya ya Harlem world uptown baby
Yaya is so articulate. Like I can feel her soul through her words
I'm not trying to bring Tyra down, just question some of the things she does
divaquana right?! There was time on her show where she told people that if they ate bread with butter, salt and pepper, it'd taste like chicken. Lol!
Yessss.... I was just talking abput that..but come see billboards in toronto with this white women with a HUGE gap in her teeth..flaunting it. Smdh!!
1 season she had a girl shave her teeth to widen her gap.
imsunshine child 😂😂😂
Hlumelo Petros that's why I cannot stand Tyra. She's full of sh it. She criticized ppl but when you criticize her she gets all upset. She says ppl tore her down in her early modelling years now she's doing the same to other young girls. Tyra is full of shit
Thats disgusting how Tyra sat there and let that happen on her own show. And I'm rooting for Amara!
right she's beautiful
Who’s here after the black lash Tyra is receiving currently? 🙋🏾♀️
Me 😂😂 everyone is getting aired out
Wait, what happened?
Shawn Loewenberg - I would hope that isn’t true 😪 cause that’s even worse
Shawn Loewenberg Disgusting
It’s a way of showing your roots and still being glam

Tyra Banks BEEN insecure. That's why Naomi and Kimora went further than her.
I stopped supporting Tyra. You can tell she's a shady character behind the scene.
Tyra banks is talking with a whole Afro on. I can't even deal. 😒😒😒
Chi Rose its just a prop to her
Yaya was so eloquent with it
I know! That's the definition of a true black woman to me. Strong, beautiful, and educated! She gave them the utmost truth and with class.
Never liked Tyra! YaYa was never going to win because she refused to compromise who she was! 🙏🏽🤫🤫✊🏽✊🏽
Okay so we get criticized for wearing OUR HAIR natural THEN we get criticized for wearing a weave THEN we get criticized for wearing a wiG...what the fukk what can a Black Woman do to "NOT"be criticized these days? Or is that even possible?💯💯
I agree.

Thank you ..
Not possible. They love to attack us.smh
Ms Bronze Goddess this is SO TRUE💯
Didn’t even know that was her on ANTM 😧 they were disgusting for attacking her for loving her roots
Jazznextdoorr yeah that season was rough!

Ruth Frank 7
Theres a reason blacks get fake hair on them, their African hair looks burnt and nappy
Destiny Bennett :/
Some are like that.... some aren't like that at ALL.
Ehhh. Amara ain't all natural. She's enhanced her looks but natural she is not
I thought Tyra was going to stand up for her. She had every right to be defensive. What they said was unattractive and disrespectful! Tyra should have checked them, not her. I can't stand Tyra Fakes!
Very much agreed
That went right over our heads back then.
Virgochic84 not mines. . . I thought on it and was confused.
Not mine...it made me sad and disappointed in the definition of beauty and fashion standards.
Some of us were literally 10 at the time so it went over our adolescent heads.... Jeez.
It sure did, and that was one of my favorite seasons !
Just face it. Us black women aren't like by anyone on this planet! Everyone is either envious or just flat out hates us.
You're wrong. I don't hate anyone for skin color. I love an afro too.

Don't believe that non-sense. Black women are despised openly but are loved secretly, let that marinate.

Smh
Ameerah Jones right sis!!!✊✌
TheKendroShow
Very well said. I'm not natural like you, but I love my hair & the kinks from it. My mom & grand-mom, always told me, to never be ashamed of it, whether it's braids, perms, weave, or wigs.
your "young goofywood" moniker so fits..lol
I loved this season of ANTM but i was a kid then. Watching now i realise how offensive this was 😐
Yaya was well ahead of her time, and when you are a pioneer sometimes you have to catch the slack that comes with it. She paved the way for people like Amara to SHINE. Well done yaya! Though I want to shame Tyra, she was still growing and trying to understand her own personal beliefs and blackness. Not an excuse but I'm sure if she looked back on this clip she would be ashamed of her ignorance.
💛🌼🐝🌻🍯
Tyra can only WISH to have HALF of YaYa's beautiful gorgeous natural head of hair.
Damn Tyra. You put another black woman down for embracing who she is and loving her natural self. Wow i missed that part. Not a good look Tyra not at all. Smdh.
I like that they added Naomi clips in there cause my Queen would never tbh
I looooved that season, but HATED that part. If my African/natural makes YOU uncomfortable. Guess what? That's a discussion you have to have with self. And Janice Dickinson as a judge? I wouldn't take criticism from anybody who don't have their original face. 😂Js Love my fellow Natural Sistas! You're beautiful as you are!
Tina Thomas Right!!! The nerve of Janice who altered her entire face. Girl bye

Goodbye Tyra you just lost my respect.
Tyra was so sickening and toxic.
I remember that episode of antm so well, but I didn’t understood what Tyra said until you brought that up. Like Woow, it was really bad.
KeepinitRealLiz, yea I was like 11 or 12 when I saw that episode so I didn't understand it, now that I'm older and alot more conscious Im offended by it
Me too but I was so young. Wow
Lol funny/shady that she used the Naomi GIFs during the Tyra bit
I wasn't young when that Cycle 3 of ANTM aired I was 29 the same age as Tyra and it was difficult to watch Tyra deal with Yaya in the manner she was the entire season. It made me less of a Tyra fan and my sister and I have clowned Tyra ever since....Yaya was our choice to win but we KNEW the producers would not go that route...anyway. Times have changed -- I don't think she would be dealt with like that today for expressing her individuality and culture
Cass G That's why I love Naomi and Iman and could care less about tyra.
Nahhh I had to comment again, it's crazy how "asleep" we were back then, and now shit like that can never go over our heads... Thank God for enlightenment
Ashley Gordon I actually wanted yaya to win that season. But after that challenge the panel seemed to be pushing for Eva to win
Badgurlbeauty true as if they already had their winner. I too loved both Yaya and Eva... they also painted yaya as a villain .. smh

And she has a white baby

FYI, Rumor had it that cover girl picked the winner ahead of time each season which kinda explains why Tyra was that way.
omg you're absolutely right
Cover girl chose a diverse cast of winner lil shade.... However I think the show never Ever embraced when of colors hair specifically and THATS TRAGIC
Sure they did! 50 shades of beige 😆 😂 😆
She said because people would think that she was bias side eye. If a compliment is deserved.....it should be given. PERIOD
I don't think I want to support Tyra anymore after seeing that episode
Kimberly Clayton right and I didn't know until last year that she's had a nose job all this time
It was years ago more than a decade to honest , people change. What she said was bad but it was years ago
That video broke my heart. Absolutely disgraceful disgusting and embarrassing of Tyra ... 🙄
Me neither
I love the Naomi Campbell gifs after every ignorant comment about Yaya embracing her African roots. I expected more from Tyra tbh, very disappointed.
Tyra should be ashamed of herself that's one of the reasons I stopped watching ANTM
Taniky Hylton Smh, only to them down I'm surprised nobody told her that she looks like an 👽

Their season was very legendary
Empress Bahbie my favorite season. This episode pissed me off. I remember it clear as day. Like how dare you disrespect her like that. Yaya has always been a natural girl and will always be. The fact that they tried to make her feel bad, unworthy, unpretty because of her culture is just awful. Then had he audacity to scold her on being defensive when they were just highly disrespectful! Uggh now I’m mad lol.
Yes it was.
Yeah, their season was the best season!
True!
When she said that she was being to defensive she was talking about her being black
Because being black is offencive according to Tyra in her white friends
I'm over here thinking: How is a fro not total glamour and freaking awesome?
Exactly I'm a tennage black male and rock the fro every day. The girls seem to like it 😎.
Tv don't like to see black women in their natural state.
@@kimberlydill8059 No they don't. The more they can make you doubt your natural beauty, the more "beauty products" they can sell you.
+justcallme... Amen!
Wow I wish I understood this while watching it as a child. Tyra really just hurt my feelings like I shed a tear
Crazy...agreed
Bridgette smith fuck what people do or say be you because you r beautiful!!
I haven't got the black panther line just the "Is that your real hair ?"
Our hair is a symbol of resistance and means you don't succumb to western beauty standards . Big up sis !
Wow talk about eye opening. This definitely took me back to when I was watching this episode. Just wow. Her message was beautifully written.
They were critical of her appearance. Looks like she didn’t care. That’s what I got from it
I remember this season too. And you"re right. They were EXTREMELY RUDE AND OFFENSIVE that episode with Yaya!😡
But Tyra got a full Afro I’m confused wth
Nia Buchanan a full temporary afro....its just a front for the cameras and an to try and act like she can relate....how often have u seen her rocking an afro on a regular bases.....she would never be on the cover of sports illustrated doing this.....when she was younger she never came in the businesses rocking an afro....how do I know!? I KNOW!
Nia Buchanan
I thought the same thing. Like "But bitch you got on a fucking afro too!" "Why are you cosigning with discriminatory fuckery these folks are saying and doing to Yaya?" But let them have said something sideways about a chubby girl.....OH HEEELLLL NOO! ALL HELL would have broken loose! 😒😒😒
Nia Buchanan but she doesnt have the true naturalism that yaya has
TYRA IS WEARING A WIG FROM CHINA.
Amara fro isnt real. She said thats weave.....
1. Use less heat
2. Get regularly trim(depends on when your hair need it)
3. Protective styling ( hair grow better because you're not messing with it so therefore your hair not stressing it in return retaining length)
4.deep condition after every wash
Do a protein treatment once a month or every other month. Don't forget to use condition after shampoo.
5. MOST IMPORTANTLY..... MOISTURIZE YOU HAIR!!!!!!KEEP IT MOISTURIZE
All Kinds of black is so BEAUTIFUL!!!😍😍😍😍😍
LYJmusic lmao Tyra always took the darkest girl and gave her a bald head like wtf. She gave huge transformations with white girls
GoodOlAllisonHarvard 14yrs of living will teach you.
Yes Eva was a mess! I couldn’t stand her ass during cycle 3
