I absolutely love that game-Singed is this archetypical mad scientist. And show-Singed is.... still that, but portrayed with subtlety, gravitas and nuance in a very underplayed way. Watching his first few scenes, in any other show he would just be Background Scientist #1, he's so low key, but in this show... you can never imagine this guy going 'mwahahahaha!' whilst lightning flashes, and yet he still embodies everything that is dangerous and frightening about detaching ethics from discovery and he does it in a way that makes 100% sense.
It's like the rift is the only place where he can goof off, no science over there so might as well ahah
"you can never imagine this guy going 'mwahahahaha!' whilst lightning flashes"
You mean like in game Viktor?
@@cheaptrick_8 i mean if we take arcane as canon and it ain't the game singed well he's older and maybe even taken drugs he made in away like bane maybe that's why his mad but still smart. After all only a mad man would kill woman, men and children the same with gas and toxicity. Only a mad man would cut open someone well still alive. Canon singed is mad and smart maybe even more then Swain.
@@dificulttocure or in-game Singed's laugh?
@@zileantimekeeper7464 ''Only a mad man would cut open someone well still alive'' do you .... ever heard of doctors, chirurgs to be specific? and i dont remember him killing people with gas?
I love how when singed asked silco "are you prepared to lose her?" silco misunderstood the question and replied "She won't die" and singed allowed his misinterpretation
Singed interpreted it correctly, that Silco is _not_ prepared to lose her. Which is why he drugged him. Not only watching the process of her "recovery" would've been unbearable for Silco, and he would try to intervene, but in case something goes wrong - which it could've - Silco wouldn't be able to handle it.
@@Spherrum Singed meant that Jinx won't be the same, that is why she is so crazy and a psycho
@@matejatomic3897 She was like that before.
@@Spherrum you misinterpreted the main comment
@@rekaluiza1752 what they said is still right though
He feels like the only character that has finished his plot character development. Every other character is progressing, being challenged, and changing over the show. Singed is simple: he has his goal, and he's working towards it. He feels like he's years ahead of everyone else and it's phenomenal.
perfrct example of a charachter who dosent need an arc to be good, singed knows who he is and what he stands for at this point
"singed is simple" yep this also applies in game
@@manchinator97 Now thats what i call a faithful adaptation!
Singe is Viktor's mentor after all and much more wise than the Yordle
Can’t wait to see his development into the Mass Murderer role!
I appreciate how they didn't come out and straight up say "this is singed," the first moment he was shown to us. I didn't realize it was him until I saw him with his iconic scarf.
Unfortunately the Netflix captions actually name him Singed despite him not having that name throughout the series so if you had those on, the surprise was lost
Thing was, because of the way the parts were split, it was impossible for you to not know that if you watched it as it came out, because everyone was saying "this is singed!" before the scarf reveal
Notice how they made him use the scarf. If powder didn't blow up the facility he won't wear the scarf to hide his burned scars
@@gregallan4291 OUCH glad I didint have subtitiles
@@notjinx3545 I believe he has just covering his exposed jaw. He probably don't have lips or something.

Arcane made me want to play Singed but then I remembered his gameplay is pressing Q and running around while spamming laugh.
@@portalmanHUN yeah but no singed is easy to play hard to master ex the throw can do so much you can even cancel some animation to do crazy combo x)
@@drep8840 he is one of the hardest champs to play too
Well singed in game is horrible mechanically, because mechanics don't interest him. Singed is there purely to succeed by winning the game, not defeating his foes. He is focused on Macro play like wave management, zoning, diversions, resource management and movement. The perfect mastermind.
He appears to only have empathy for things he relates to, and none whatsoever otherwise. Much of his apparent warmth is not intended, people like young Viktor hear it the way they want to. I look forward to more of this character.
Oh, Singed has barely gotten started. Not only will he probably play a bigger role in Season 2, but he might come back at least in the background of subsequent Arcane seasons (fingers crossed).
I think he has a lot of empathy towards people but he will never stop doing what he does
I like to think that he will try to help everybody that he can help, but if an important person tries to interfere in his inhuman experiments, he won't care and will just keep doing it
That's a duality I really apreciate
@@isaacpianos5208 i think it boils down to big picture before detail. His experiments have a price to them, but long term they might improve humanity. He will help a few people on the way when its available, but he also sees sacrifices as a necessary evil. its the price for progress in his mind.
@@julieismeok yess
He's a really complex character by far, I didn't expect him to be so well made in this show
@@isaacpianos5208 i have to say i would have completely missed his brilliance if it wasn't for his interactions with Viktor who happens to be my favorite character. I'm glad I'm aware of him now
I love be how they changed him from a kooky mad scientist with a huge cartoon shield in-game (first time I saw his in-game model I was like "WTH!?") to a nuanced and interesting character who devoted his entire being to science and only works with Silco because he lets him do whatever he wants, very nice job by Riot Writers indeed.
Singeds lore has been like this for a LONG time. his flavor stories have been some of the best.
@@deinoswyrd Really!, that's interesting ... too bad the in-game model doesn't reflect that, hope they give him an Arcane skin or something and lose the shield.
@@AscendantStoic he's definitely not getting an arcane skin, he's too close ot a visual update
@@AscendantStoic Thing with Singed is that he is a very very very old champion. Released in 2009 and his latest visual update was in 2014.
His old pasive was extra mana into hp, using His shield as a conduct
The writing for Singed must have had the most time spent at the keyboard per second of on screen dialogue. Almost every line out of the guy's mouth has a lie of omission; from telling his cat it's feeding time to telling Silco he saved Jinx'es life. I definitely wouldn't want to play poker with the writers. Also, put me in the camp of people who think Rio either is the daughter with a "changed nature" or is a vital part of a Frankenstein scheme to bring her back. Nobody the Dr treats seems to die. The body survives but he loses the human.
There's some theories that he might have created Oriana in 'Arcane'.
Look at the medaille he's holding in the last episode, it looks so much like Orianna that it just can't be a coïncidence.
If Rio is his daughter, woah.. that must have been a really wild night.
@@dificulttocure Haha, yeah. That guess is a distant long shot but it fits his obsession. Knowing that death is a mercy, what could be so important that the critter in the bacta tank MUST survive?
@@dificulttocure well if he turned vander to warwick ...
One thing you didn't touch on is that Singed himself has put his money where his mouth is regarding his philosophy on life and death. He was a long exiled pupil of Heimerdinger even when Viktor was young, and his appearance didn't change between that event and when we see him in the first 3 episodes. Singed himself is easily the oldest human on the show, and remains so due to the results of his work. His work doesn't necessarily maintain a good quality of life, and it's noteworthy that that *includes* himself as a horrifically disfigured and scarred old man.
Okay but, consider, when he first appears he's not that old. Just middle-aged and incredibly... banal. Could pass as an office worker. He's only disfigured and scarred because of Jinx's blast in episode 3. His medicine didn't cause the disfigurement.
On the other hand in his early interactions with Viktor he looks basically the same as he does before Jinx blows him up(a gap of maybe ten, fifteen years?), so you may still be right about him aging slower/being really old.
Didn't really think about that. Seems to me the jump between Viktors flashback and present is about 25 years, based on how young Viktor looked back then. Another point that adds weight to your argument - Singed used to work with Heimerdinger. I'd say anyone that works with the founder of the city and the dean of the academy is going to be somewhat well known, at least among the academy students and staff. So... maybe that was a long time ago. Like 100 years ago or something.
Singed is so interesting in Arcane. Just from such a small amount of screen time we get the depth and importance of this man
I never even considered the fact that all Singed does in the show is defy death.
Shimmer? Makes you almost unkillable
The mutation? Must survive
Viktor's sick? Here's the cure
Jinx is dying? Not anymore
Vander's dead??? No he's not I don't feel like it
Saves the most lives in the show when you think about it
he saved the most lives onscreen, however his contributions to the production of shimmer means that he killed/ruined many many more
@@nealeellis4455 If the lore hasn't changed he is also behind the The bioweapons Noxus used against Ionia during the invasion
@@foxytoxic2624 I'm almost certain that in Season 2 Mel's mom will be pressuring Piltover heavily to give them hextech weapons, only for them to ultimately refuse- only for Singed to step in through some form of deal to develop them more 'experimental' weapons in exchange for access to some of the demological magic stuff going on in Noxus in his increasing efforts. Would be a perfect way to marry his old lore to the new, as well as set up... pretty damn near every single Ionian champion lol since he's prominent in the backstory of all of them
By this logic, kills and ruins the most lives too. How many have lives were affected negatively by shimmer? A lot. Let's go Singed!
@@JV-km9xk singed is just the perfect scientist without empathy trope. While he saves people he never does it out of good or selfless intentions, he only saves people if it contributes to his own agenda like defying death and creating mutants
Also, notice that Singed also says that “the mutation must *survive*” and not “the mutation must live.” I expected the writers to choose the word “live” because it’s a common trope. However, the fact that Singed says “survive” means that he acknowledges the struggle that everybody must face in life in order to keep themselves living. Unfortunately, this also means that he knows the mutation can never “live” like the ideal of “living” that many people want today. The concept of “living” has been broadened to “quality of life” and social experiences in the current world we live in. This creature can not “live,” so the writers must make the distinction that it must “survive.”
That also relates to something Ekko says to Heimerdinger later: “It’s not enough to give people what they need to survive. You have to give them what they need to live.”
@@a.morphous66 OMG great insight
Also he says the *mutation* must survive. He doesn't care about the creature for its own value, but he needs the mutation to be around so he can use it.
But he says rio will live afterwards
1:59 : "singed dosent fear death or runs from it..."
singed in game: I am speed
"Death tried to chase me once. It suffocated"
Singed totally pokes the bear and runs away. 😂
The issue isn't his intelligence but his methods. Singed may have goals that he considers noble but he has absolutely no ethical boundaries.
Those ethical boundaries are what have caused many more deaths though. Singed is determined to achieve his goals for some greater purpose. If somebody had discovered the way to heal any injury and disease, or even reverse death, wouldn't you use it, even if somebody had sacrificed thousands to invent it? Wouldn't their discovery save many more, and bring prosperity, even through the sacrifices?
@@DarthVader-ch4umThere are real life examples of unethical, torturous experiments on captives for research. Would you sacrifice your own life or your family's, just to contribute to that progress? Or it's just the faceless people whom you never have to meet?
@@xxlCortez It's the second, because naturally it's easy to sacrifice someone you have no ties to. I don't feel anything about knowing so many people die horribly every day. I wasn't always like that. But now that's just how it is. There are reasons of course, but I doubt anyone could care, which is also something I relate to somewhat. You didn't answer my question though. It's as if people want to make each other think that they care about each other's well being and if whether they die or not, as if they heard the neighbor died they would stop their routine to mourn? Of course not, unless it's family or friends. Also, yeah it's a given that those experiments that involve torturing human subjects aren't being facilitated in the name of greater good and saving humanity or something like that. But my answer wouldn't change either way.
This reminds me of bondrewd from made in abyss
Most of humanity progress of science, medicine are from unethical pratices. They are just not done publicly.
I hope he will do many more horrible things, but in the end his research will save the lives of everyone in the show, leaving us questioning if he was right all along.

I like how he's just a bro. Not some bloodthirsty evil sciencist, or a cold psychopath, but just some dude who lost everything, and his view on life drasticaly changed as a result. He feels pity for Silco, he wants to help Viktor, he doesn't care but he can relate to both of them, so he helps them. But in general he just wants funding and resources for whatever he is working on, and to be left to his projects.

Singed is definitely nuanced and interesting. Looking forward to seeing more of him later. As well as his involvement with noxus and ionia. He's a pretty profound character in the overall lore. Always scheming in the background during major events
Can you imagine Mel's mother recruiting him for Noxus?
Solid chance yes
Everyone in Arcane is interesting, including Singed. Vander was such a good father figure character and back when he was alive, the children really did feel safe with him. Him coming back as Warwick would really be great.

I'm disappointed that you didn't add Jinx to the list of brilliant minds.
Not only did she replicate Jayce's technology (with his research notes) but she's basically the Diogenes of the series when it comes to approaching death.
Don't forget she even repairs VIs broken guantlet, they don't mention it, but when she carries the tray to the table it's fixed with scribbles all over it. She's probably got the most potential of all of them, but she's got bats in the belfrey.
@@Tubejin Oh, she's nuts. No question about that.
But yeah, she's also brilliant. Viktor praised her engineering when looking at her explosive devices.
Her and Ekko are also definitely up there. Unfortunately, in the series, they haven't done anything to the level of the other four yet (Founding cities, creating Hextech, creating shimmer). These are a bit higher level than explosives and hoverboards.
@@internetloy Oh shit, I completely forgot about Ekko.
He built his hoverboard, and will eventually make a time reset machine.
@@internetloy if you notice when she fires the Super Mega Death Rocket at the end, it has activated runes doing their little floating magic circle when she puts the hextech crystal in. This means she deciphered and applied Jay es and Viktor's notes in a matter of days.
I love that they kept him really neutral. Sure he's inarguably a mad scientist with little empathy for those he treats, but he really just keeps to himself and helps whoever is willing to let him. He keeps his word and doesn't necessarily lie to anyone, even warning Viktor of the effects of the shimmer, and has a decent amount of sympathy for Silco and his father/daughter relation with Jinx, but they still managed to keep him somewhat cruel and mysterious. He doesn't *want* to find a way to extend mortal survival, he *is* finding a way, even if that way must include loosing humanity and/or being able to really _live_ at this stage. Really excited abt their plans for him next season
This is a masterpiece. Everything they approached they did it with care & love. From pre production to post production now that's inspiring.
I don't think that line where he asked "are you willing to lose her?" was about her dying. I think it had to do with the shimmer changing her nature.
nah, shimmer might kill the consumer if said consumer is too weak, the early versions leave the consumer quite weak after the effects run out
I think it could imply both
As someone who only knew Jinx and Ekko going in, I was shocked to find out he was a champion. They did an amazing job at keeping him and even developing him in the background. Very interesting to see more about what was happening with him from Viktor being a child, to Act I, and then to the time skip.
This is the type of Singed that executes the proxy farming strat perfectly
The list of Singed's crimes are long, but he's doing it for the science. Concepts of morality, decency and humanity don't concern him. He will do what the science requires.
And that can be very terrifying in itself.
THE RUMBLING OF SCIENTIFIC TRIUMPH
It's honestly impressive how layered and and interesting they make singed in his short time on screen, you did a great job of capturing and explaining those details my man :)
I love how the video is almost as long as the overall screentime of Singed
Short, but so very meaningful
this vid just got recommend after I watched Arcane season 2 trailer🤣you just predicted Warwick
Predicted? If you played the game, you already knew it was him.
@@likeyeeah I played the game (WildRift), I knew, I saw people making theories of Vander being Warwick 2 years ago, and it's still true they predicted it
"How about a drink?"
Singed definitely fears death he just also accepts its inevitability in so many parts of life. I also would not call him a step above Heimer, Jayce and Viktor given they so far don't have much in common goal wise: the former pursue science as a means whereas singed pursues it as an end.
That’s what it means to accept death. Most people fear death, but only a few will accept it for what it is. Even if you don’t fear death, it doesn’t mean you accept it, and vice versa.
This was really well made, i appreciate that you made it. Both Viktor and singed were my favorite characters
Singed in Arcane: Complex, misguided maybe, profound yet disturbing. Understands his actions are viewed as immoral, and why, but holds fast to his convictions.
Singed in League: HeEHe HooHAaA WaRcRiMeS~ *ZOOOOOOOOOOMS*
One of the better and more in depth arcane analysis I’ve seen! I’m glad u had soenthin original to say abt the show !!
And I was totally waiting for the Vander scene mention LOL
the way I gasped when you said “vander is back” LIKE I NEVER NOTICED THAT HOLY SHITE
And it's like 99% certain that he'll become Warwick.
Lots of people contrasting Singed's gameplay to his story in arcane. If I remember right, Singed joined the league for the opportunity to test his concoctions on limitless subjects. So his entire purpose in league is not to win, or even fight, but to experiment, to expose as many subjects to his gas as he can. So his gameplay matches pretty well. He's got to survive long enough to observe, so armor and a shield is practical, and the heavy cc helps him survive even longer.
You can even consider his allies not suffering from it as evidence that there's a counter toxin that he gives his team before the match. It may be one half of a transformative formula without the stabilizing agent. So it causes those without the agent to die during the process of mutation, but he can examine the effects on their cells post-death. A dead subject may yield more information than a live one. It'd be interesting to see a Singed mini-rework to make him more supportive, making his poison buff allies standing in it during his ult. His kit is already zoning cc heavy, so he functions a lot like a support in teamfights already.
@@hhjhj393 He's doing that because they're funding his research. In season two he'll probably have the gas weapons for the war with piltover.
Really insightful commentary. Singed is just one of the many impactful secondary characters, but you make him stand out.
The thing about Singed in the show is that he's basically Rick Sanchez without the self loathing. Rick, on some level, knows that he's a monster and that Science can't actually fix everything. He overloads himself on coping mechanisms and experiences to run away from the crushing weight of his Trauma and whenever someone throws his actual psychology in his face he shuts down. He did it with the therapist, he's done it when Beth's called him out, he does it when the Morty called him out, and he did it when he met the shy pooper and that dude tried to actually connect and form community with him.
Great video man!! love it that you mentioned him being a stoic, makes your video different than the rest
Singed is definitely the most uniqe and best character in Arcane. Very underated.
wow, I love the details you explained! I missed most of them.
especially that once I had a daughter connection to his works
Singed was one of my favorite parts of arcane just because it’s so impressive how much they were able to cram in his character with the little screen time he has, I can’t wait to see more of him in season 2, I’m especially excited to see how he interacts with Machine Herald Viktor
And THIS is why squidward tentacles is the perfect anime antagonist
Singed in Arcane:

"He's not someone who fears death or runs from it"
It's kind of his entire gimmick.
Singed literally just vibes at a frequency only he can hear and it scares everyone else.
I love how we have all scientists on the moral-progress spectrum on this show, each with their motivations and flaws.
the more video analyses i watch about this show the more i fall in love with it
Singed took on the biggest challenge: Death. He does it in a monomaniacal, headstrong but very calculating manner - and it seems his research has yielded at least some progress.
Singed is so smart he’s proxying them all with his intellect.
really good video, worth subscribing!!
no matter where singed is he (league or arcane) he always ends up being one of the most influential characters throughout runeterra. From saving everyone's' lives to making a horrible chemical for noxus to gas ionia
i always thought vander would become warwick since he was called the hound of the lanes
I just love the fact that Vander isn’t dead❤️
Singed definitely had a troubled background. While it would be nice to see more of that I guess it's better to keep his past obscured. He seems to be more focused on fulfilling his future anyway.
As a singed otp since s2, it tickles my heart how awesome they portrayed my man. All of his scenes were fascinating because his view of the world and life is just incredibly unique
Excellent analysis
His research story in LoL is horrific the man is stoic on another level
"not a mad scientist, just willing to do anything in the name of science" thats a mad scientist bro
Not as dark but Mordin Solus was written similarly with this detached “loner” vibe with strong convictions.
“Had to be me, someone else might’ve gotten it wrong.”
Gosh, I loved Singed. He was so intriguing
I love this final line! It's beautiful, but a complete opposite to my thought, Vander is not back nor will he ever be. Singed has changed his nature...
I like the scene where he says "mix mix swirl mix" then dances under our top tower for 6 shots.
It’s crazy bc even tho he really isn’t the villain in season 1, he is THE top dog anyway in the shadows hidden from everyone’s eyes, im super excited for his return in season 2 I can’t wait to see his character developing
this random ted ed in the middle of the video broke my immersion heavy
Videos like this make me realise that I don't notice every little detail... but then again, that gives reason to see and interpret things again, in another way, I suppose

The Signed in my team who went 0/21 accepted that death is part of the game and that everyone will hate him

one thing you didn't mention about heimerdinger is that his long lifespan allowed him to live through the most traumatic times of his universe. in arcane they just call it magic, but what heimer is afraid of and lived through was the run war, runes being the most powerful, world altering form of magic. that is why heimer is concerned with safety and slow progress, he saw what happens when the world gets power crept, he saw the horrors of war cause just by magical knowledge progressing too fast, and is equally afraid of technology progressing too fast.
also one of the runes were what turned the Blessed Isles, the home of the Sentinels, Thresh, Yorick, and Ryze, into the Shadow Isles. Viego put Isolde into the Well of Ages, and it seems the magic within draws the soul from their resting place when the dead body is in contact with the water. Isolde stabbed Viego through the chest with Sanctity (his sword) and it seems the life-draining magic of his blade combined with the life-giving powers of the waters were in conflict with one another. Turns out, the mortal-made magic from the sword wasn't strong enough to combat the power of the ancient, all-powerful rune magic, resulting in an explosion that destroyed the entire island and cursed everyone caught in it.
He may not know of THAT specifically, but the power of the Runes are nothing short of cataclysmic when put into the wrong hands, and it's the reason they built the city in the first place. As a refuge from magic, and the Rune Wars were one of the most destructive displays of that. Being scarred from that event, it makes sense why he was so hostile towards even the slight consideration of arcane influence in the city that he helped build as his one bastion of safety against it.
This show and the team that worked it has given so much depth of lore to characters In-game that they could do a spin off on rammus and it could easily be 2 seasons long
Im glad somebody loves singed as much as i do. I kept telling people he was my favourite character!
The great thing about him is that he doesn't seem to enjoy people suffering, he instead just sees it as a way for them to grow stronger IF they survive it...
hey man, great video. I just thought parts of it was jarring to watch since there was only jump cuts, it'd be cool to see what you could do with transitions between sections in your videos
Wow, thanks for pointing out that detail. I already speculated, that Vander would become Warwick, but totally missed it in that scene.
Singed in Arcane is a great character, especially given the source material of a cracked out grandpa running at 600 mph carrying a surfboard.
Can't wait for the Singed arc where he runs around drunk, and throwing poison everywhere
Arcane: How to write a flawless show.
That line about "love and legacy are the sacrifices" is also directly at odds with Jace and Donger. Heimerdinger cares about legacy. Jace fights because he's kinda the "all loving hero" archetype.
Bro you predicted it 2 years ago and now it's very prominent that Vander really might be back this season
This is really cool, i would've appreciated some comparison with Ekko and Jinx as well tho since they're also inventors.
Singed is the Oppenheimer of this storyline
I kind of had a similar impression with him. His almost nihilistic nature intrigued me. I hope that they give him a bigger role next season.
Heard your accent and immediately subscribed. SA represent!
Singed is my main in league I was glad he is already shown in the series can't wait for season 2!

I love his potreyal in Arcane. He is one of the most interesting characters
The theory of warwick being vander is so cool
When I realized he was singed Ingot hyped. Favorite champion back when I played…like a decade ago.
singed in lol: haha bald man with poison go brrrr
one additional interesting insight. having in mind what might happen to vander-warvic i believe that that animal is his daughter. that would be in the line with "we loose love and legacy". his persistence for saving the mutation "SHE is dying-the creature" would reinforce that as well.
One of the most prominent villainous figures in runeterra. Loved seeing him in the show and can’t wait to see what he doesn’t next.
Never occurs to me until now that he heal/help saving 3 peoples and it always end with bad concequences
THE END IS LIKE SAYING YOURE MOM GAY ANND RUNNING AWAY LAUGHTING
For the guy who made the chemical weapons that destroyed the wuju village he's seems a bit nice
Singed strikes me as a character similar but not identical to that of Littlefinger in Game of Thrones.
The man is his own entity outside of everything else going on in the world ( in Arcane ) and characters like those only pose to be a bigger problem for others down the line. I love how Singed is being portrayed as someone who is the catalyst to a lot of developing situations without being directly involved. He created Jinx, he is creating Warwick, I wouldn't be surprised if we see him involved in Mundo's origin. He is a living generator of trouble that nobody but maybe Viktor will realize its him.
I just have this aching theory that Singed is going to be a major character as the series goes on and I would love to see a dialogue of ethics between him and Heimerdinger
