A lot of Navy and Marine Corp stuff is interchangeable. For example sometimes Navy folks say Oorah. Also in the Navy you will learn both the Marine Corp hymn and Anchors aweigh. Lastly, in basic you learn history and ranks of not just the Navy but the Marine Corp also. Side note the Marine Corps uses the Navy's phrase "Attention on Deck". And at Basic training for USMC the barracks are labeled portside and starboard

Sailors don't rate/claim the tittle US Marines, unless that sailor joined my Beloved Corps and earned the tittle Marine, before busting their head and joining the navy. Just saying.
I love to laugh at how many Marines deny they came from the Navy. Come on little brother we do still love you, but you will always be our little brother.

To transition up the ranks it's customary to learn the Marine Corps hymn. It's not customary to be good singers though.
