I agree, it should work, but this is a good work around
Cheers my friend, After a 1 hr call with gopro, they are sending a replacement camera. They tried to tell me, my (brand new) laptop was not compatible with the new hero 8. I told them to send my money back. I have a hero 3 that connects flawlessly. If it doesnt connect, return it. You should have to spend more money. It's supposed to work right out of the box my friends
The gopro needs a windows driver to work. If you have a slow PC this might take 20 mins to download and install automatically. From then on you should get the camera to show in Windows Explorer staright away (or 20 secs fro a slow PC).
Great video :) I just got one. Started playing around in 2k. I've noticed it gets very hot after 5-10 minutes. Is that normal?
Yeah they do get hot sometimes. I am not sure why. they keep going though. I did a 3 hour recording the other day and it worked fine.
@@GavinParsons thank you for replying :) It is my first ever gopro. Just didn't expect such a high quality camera to heat up so drastically. Never heard any "tech reviewers" mention this so was a little concerned
My hero 8, which is brand new, using the fastest sd 128gig card, shuts down from overheating if i shoot 2k or 4k 60 with full hypersmooth on. I literally can’t go longer than 15min before it gets super hot and auto shuts off.
DoomiePookie no good this really!
DoomiePookie mine does this too!
Sir, I'm Korean. Really stitched up with this problem. Really appreciate it!! thanks :)
Glad it helped!
My gopro hero 8 keep on hanging any solution?
What do you mean by hanging?
Gavin Parsons sorry i mean freeze
My Hero 8 worked perfectly with the cable for >6 months until I recently updated the camera. Now computer won't detect it and have to use stupid card reader. GoPro needs to fix this ASAP.
There really does seem to be glitches in the software interacting
It's a simple menu setting. In the GoPro camera, go to PREFERENCES -> CONNECTIONS -> USB CONNECTION.
There are 2 settings available:
1) GoPro Connect - This brings the gopro up on the PC as a WebCam (no access to files)
2) MTP - This brings the gorpo up on the PC as a hard-drive / file storage (access the video files)
Plz when I try to connect my phone to the GoPro hero 8 on WiFi they always say the password is wrong plz help
mokyz, are you using the password found in the camera info on the GoPro, or the GoPro website password? It needs to be the camera's password I believe.
Gavin Parsons ty it worked ❤️
Legit video brother keep these coming 🙌 thanks for the info
Thanks! Will do!
oh my gosh i have been searching and searching for an answer to this for months! thank you for your help! using another cable with ports worked for me.i'm glad i didn't need to shell out the bucks for a sd adapter to usb cable.
I am glad it worked for you. :-)

Oh Em Gee you solved my problem..! my computer now recognizes my hero eight thank you so very much I have subscribed and liked this video
Glad to have helped
Thank you for saving me a dollar but seriously appreciate it!
No worries!
About to buy one of these GoPros. We have a MacBook so should be right. Always good to catch up Gav. You know virtually
As long as you have the latest OS you should be fine John. Great little cameras. I am going to do a beginner's set up guide soon.
I bought a gopro and had problems with water infiltration. I'm in touch to exchange, it's like buying a drone that doesn't fly.
I really am disappointed in GoPro for these latest cameras. It's almost like they are rushing them to market.
Thank you very much, now my pc can recognize my Gopro Hero8. I was having the same issue with the USB. 👏👏
You are most welcome Samuel, it is annoying, but at least there is a fix :-)

Мою камеру не видит компьютер и я не могу подключить гопро 8 как вебкамеру к компьютеру
Did you try using a USB-C to USB-C cable?
@@GavinParsons Yes, I use the original gopro cable
@@artonki2 That's not going to work. you need a USB-C to USB-C cable like I say in the video
@@GavinParsons where should I connect it?
@@artonki2 Does your computer have a USB-c connector? That's what it needs to connect to
I just turn on my GoPro hero 8 while it was connected to my PC and the computer detected it right away ! No problem at all !
Well you are lucky, there are people struggling to get their GoPro's to interact with their computers (I was one of them).
Yes but later became won't work anymore lame...
Love
most useful video!
Glad you think so!
Merci grâce a vous j'ai peu faire fonctionner avec l'adaptateur que vous montrez ma gopro hero 8
Vous êtes les bienvenus
Have used it for several seasons
WTF is this?? its the 2021 and I have to find youtube tutorials and download shady drivers for my new camera?
Also thank you...
Think how I feel having to make a video
In ur GoPro-Go into preferences and go to connection and click on "USB connection". There are two options. The default is "GoPro Connect", this is probably for use as a webcam with the beta windows software. You need to change this to MTP (media transfer protocol).
thanks!!! you so handsome!
I know, it's an affliction I have had to live with ;-)
The easiest solution for all your problems: get a mac 👍🏽😉
Haha, I had one and switched to the Dark Side ;-)
Gavin Parsons 😂👍🏽
