Yes I agree with you. I replaced that outer panel and I reinforced the hinge area with the two plastic tabs with silicone compound and so far it’s been holding now after 9 years.

Found this video because, of course, I discovered the exact same problem! Door has been sagging for years, so we always lift to close it. But the door strike finally snapped off in the EXACT same place yours did (what fun I had digging that little piece of plastic out of the closure with needle nose pliers and tweezers)! Ordered a new door strike, thinking that would fix the problem. Nope. So I took the door apart and found EXACTLY what you did. Those plastic tabs snapped off. And I had the EXACT same reaction you did. What kind of engineer would design something like this? All that weight relying on little plastic tabs? Why did they even bother with a metal door hinge if that hinge doesn't even carry the weight of the door? This is what a friend of mine calls "engineered obsolescence." It's DESIGNED to fail - but not before the warranty runs out. I'll bet they put money into figuring out just how long it will take. They want to sell parts and new machines. I'm looking into the work around with a washer instead of ordering a new outside door panel. Sounds like you may have done that. Did it take one washer or two? One for each end of the hinge? I'm hoping to find a video of this washer fix. By any chance did you take video of how you did it?
Hi I did not video me doing the repairs. I used a two part plastic epoxy and used steel washers to get the door lined back up for Striker. I used some plastic for added support the broken tabs. I hope you can fix your door. Thanks Phillip
I've experienced the exact same problem. Now, unless you lift the door carefully before closing it the plastic door snaps off, and we have to leans a heavy wooden board against the door to ensure it closes. In addition I now keep at least five or six of the plastic door strikes on hand for when they inevitably will snap off. The problem? The lower prong of the door striker snapped-off. The reason? Door-sag. The bottom prong was no longer aligned with the opening. Rather than enter the opening, it struck the bottom lip of the opening when I closed the door. I tried removing the door, but those 3 screws would-not-budge! The fix? I installed a washer/bushing at the topmost area of the door hinge. I took a thick plastic washer and cut an opening in it. It originally looked like an ‘o’, and now looked like a ‘c’. I shoved it onto the hinge while holding the door up. This elevated the door slightly, but still not quite enough. So I installed a new striker at an upward angle by inserting 2 small washers behind the bottom screw of the striker. The bottom prong of the new striker was now better aligned with the opening. That prong acts like a little ‘ski’ and helps align the locking mechanism by guiding the door up and into the proper position. Washer works fine…..door latches securely. (FYI: That bottom prong snapped-off years ago, and we’ve been using the washer with no issues all this time with just the top prong. I felt it was time to really resolve the sag problem.)
Did you attempt to fix this? The same thing happened to my machine, but in addition, the metal pieces that go into the bushings snapped right off! I'm going to try to fix it myself. I ordered a new hinge w/bushings, but I'm not going to spring for a new door if I can help it!
Someone gave me a washer and when i opened the door pane, they had already put a screw in place of the metal piece. But it keeps falling off, ima try puting a different screw. Since there's nothing electrical there ima try put foam or something, we'll see.
Completely agree with you. Our striker broke this morning and I’m trying to source the part in town instead of ordering through amazon. Our door has been sagging for years now and I’m just baffled how they’re able to approve these plastic designs. It’s all about the money!
I actually used #8 t-bolt through the outside of the door and through slot in the bushing, keeping the t- bolt on the outside of the slot because I'll be DAMNED if i'm spending 200 or 300 for a plastic door. I drilled the hole a little Smaller and threaded t-bolt and the Bushing. The door Lines up perfectly with the latch and the t-bolts being a galvanised color you really have to look to see them

FRANK, yesterday when I saw your work around I had no idea what it would look like which is why I asked for the video. Thanks for getting back to me right away. Once I took the door off the hinge and popped off the back cover I understand your remedy. Now, on mine not only did those little plastic tabs that hold the bushings in place break off, the bottom of the hinge where the steel part or stud of the hinge inserts into the bushing snapped off. I ordered a new hinge and I have questions about your solution. I’m assuming you drilled from the inside of the outer cover and thread of the bolt from the outside. That also had to engage the little loop in the bushing in order to stay in place. Am I correct?
Got that issue right now. The whole door hinge area of the door is busted. I thought my daughter had done it. But now I see it wasn’t her it was the itty bitty plastic pieces that couldn’t hold the glass of the door. What a crappie way to do that!! 😡
Just getting back to this (4 months later!) - We did need to order a new hinge, but we fixed the door with a combination of metal pieces and some epoxy. It's held up for 4 months now! (How do I insert a picture?)
I tried contacting the manufacturer about this door failure and I could not speak with a human. Sad people go to school to become engineer and they make a crappy design of a door hinge
Exact same thing happened to my washer. Stupid little plastic tabs caused the whole thing to fail. Ordered a new door but the geometry was slightly off so it didn’t latch correctly. So I used the old door with lots of epoxy and gorilla glue to hold the bushings in place absent the broken tabs. It’s working now but it won’t last. Horrible engineering.
My washing machine has the same door sag, and the lock mechanism appears to have failed, the pins are fully in tact but it refuses to lock and run, any idea if this is why?
When you look at your door there should be a pin that locks in to a switch on the washing machine. If that pin is broken off the washer thinks the door is not shut and the washer will not start.

@@scotthogsed I did not make a video of the repairs. I used two part plastic epoxy and placed the two broken plastic pieces and glued them in place. Then I placed the hinges in there correct position and added more epoxy and reassembled the door.
@@peparcell Thanks. I think the same thing is happening with mine...started leaking water from the bottom of the door and the door doesn't line up 100% with the striker. What are people talking about with the metal washers? I don't see where you would put them in this repair.
@@Sugarkryptonite the metal washers are for support when you reinstall the door pins for the hinges. You will see a gap between the plastic door and the door pin. Add some washers to that area and glue the washers with a good two part epoxy glue.

My repair is still holding up. I will be moving this summer and I will be getting new washer. I will never buy another front loader washer.

The problem?

Go to a Auto Parts Store or Walmart and purchase some two part epoxy and glue it back together. Good luck 👍

I used steel washers and two part plastic epoxy. Door has been working great with no issues since I made the repairs.
