Tips from a seasoned porn recovery person here (first viewed age 4). 1: clarify in your bones why YOU need to stop. Not just in your head, but in your soul. Do this now: close your eyes. Feel in your bones - "what is this costing me?" Notice any images or answers that come back. FEEL the responses, in your jaw, your arms, your chest. Breathe it, let it in. It might be a bit emotional. Ask again if you need to. Take it easy. 2: Ask yourself, as if you were asking a younger version of yourself - 'what will help?' - close your eyes, ask, feel for any responses or images that come back. For me, it's keep things simple, get rid of triggers in environment, stay with emotions, tell my partner about it, stuff like that. 3: Don't beat yourself up for looking at it, for having a relapse. It might feel sad, but shame is a cerebral intellectual thing, not going to help at all. If the people in your life think it's shameful, then that's their problem, their lack of wisdom. Understand that human sexuality has a huge culture to it, and you're just choosing something different right now. It's ok! Be firm, consider it a spiritual choice, all good baby. 4: The body does not really distinguish between compulsions. If you spend all day checking your phone, looking at RUclips, watching NetFlix, avoiding your emotions, being numb - you are standing on an airfield beckoning for the porn cravings to come in for landing. Use your breath to set your body into a rhythm, open, emotional, present, vulnerable. Feel your heart. Do it right now - put your hand on your chest, close your eyes, breathe. Ask, "what activities can I do today that will get a rhythm going today?" For me it's things like cook a dinner, read a good novel, speak to some friends, washing and tidying the home. 5: Ask the people in your life who love you (a partner, or family, or friends) to help regulate your nervous system, by learning together the very simple POLYVAGAL TECHNIQUES. These are written everywhere online, to do with eye contact, breathing, activating the VENTRAL VAGAL system. The heart energy. Trust me, easy to do, and will nuke your cravings. 6: Close RUclips now, go get to work on the things that came up for you doing these exercises. Write them in a notebook. Speak to people, or set up those conversations. Notice the sounds around you, the quality of light. Build a life which is interesting, dignified, has culture and taste, start to look for the subtle and small pleasures. Smile! Love to you all, comrades.

I have been addicted to so many things; hard drugs, alcohol, reckless spending, self harm, porn and more. And I gotta say porn addiction was not only my first addiction (that started when I was 11) but it also has been one of the most damaging addictions I've had. Ive been struggling with a porn addiction for almost all of my life and at first, i didnt see it as an issue. I mean, all kids watched porn right? It was normal. However i started to get annoyed that i did. Years and years of quitting and and coming back made me frustrated. But im proud to say that with God’s help, I’m going on 4 weeks of no porn. I pray to him everyday and i find myself saying “i am stronger than my addiction. God is stronger than my addiction.” And that really helped me and now just the thought of porn disgusts me.
For all of those people who are ashamed of themselves, please listen: If you are a christian and you read the bible, remember Lots wife. She looked back on the life she had and couldnt look forward toward the life she COULD have had and she was turned into a pillar of salt by the Lord himself. If you aren’t a christian, I’m still speaking to you because at the end of the day, guilt, shame, and depression fills us all when we relapse. Dont be the woman who could only see the past, but be the woman/man that can say “you know what? I fucked up and while its not ok, its time to keep moving forward”
I believe that God is the only reason I was able to stop this long. And in a way, I’m kinda glad i had a porn addiction bc it brought me closer to God.
But again, I stress to you all: remember Lots wife, and dont allow urself to be so stuck on the past that u cant see the future, or that u dont want to see the future.
You are stronger than your addiction. GOD is stronger than your addiction.

A tip from masters of the East on how to quit porn and purify your mind:
Just keep in mind that the woman/porn actress you're attracted to poops, her body is bones, blood and organs wraped in skin. One day she'll be in a coffin, eaten by worms.
Everytime a mental image of an attractive woman comes to your mind, you can kill your attraction to her by making this exercise.
      Write it down if necessary.
"So-and-so poops, so-and-so one day will be old and gross, etc"
By doing that, you free your mind.
As far as the reaction of the body, once you purify your mind, it becomes easier not to fall.
Go for a walk, play vídeo games, avoid watching anything that's got attractive females on it. Slowly, you'll conquer yourself.

But personally one of the most effective tricks if not the best one: moderate the use of social media as much as you can.. everything that enters into your eyes .. can easly generate a small stimulation, and that small stimulation can create a bomb , but of course is not easy
but maybe just at the very very beginning until your brain rewire and you feel you are stronger a little bit in that area, to be more exposed and be able to manage correctly(sorry if there is a mistake in my English haha).

It's commendable that you've decided to take steps toward positive change. Recognizing and understanding your triggers is a crucial part of overcoming addiction. If you find it challenging to identify them, consider keeping a journal to track your emotions and situations when the urge arises. Seeking support from friends, family, or professionals can also be beneficial on your journey to recovery.

My ex is the same age & I believe he had high speed internet then too. The porn, and the impact, was one of the top 3 problems in our relationship. It was a painful cause of disconnection, lack of trust, lack of real intimacy. I don't hate him though. He had a lot of emotional avoidance issues and I think porn was like a pain killer, distraction from feeling, avenue.
I noticed you wrote "I hated myself enough to do something about it".
I want to kindly encourage you...maybe you can love yourself enough to do something about it?
The behavior is maybe something to "hate"...but not you.
When we hate ourselves because of something, it makes it harder to change. Shame makes us want to hide more, hating oneself comes from shame..
It is self love to get rid of things that can harm you. To hold compassion for oneself is a powerful thing.
      I wish you healing 💫

You could also try writing down the pros and cons of watching porn, creating a vision board (there’s a video on the channel on that, if you need help with it), writing a narrative on how you see yourself 10 years from now, how does watching porn keep you from living the life you want? You might want to watch the other videos on addiction on the channel and the video on compassion. Be compassionate with yourself throughout the recovery process and keep a track on your progress and try adding positive things, doing more of the healthy things you enjoy doing.

I am not fully healed, I even feel that within my soul even as I get close to 1 year away from my addiction. My healing will never be done but it stops the complacency which is something that always tore me down in the past with my addiction. 😊

I started to suspect that in my case, porn addiction might be related to a mental disorder.
You mentioned that the urge comes and goes, lasting about fifteen to twenty minutes. Well, to me, it doesn't. It just stays here, disturbing me the entire fricking day, for days, until I relapse.
In the past years, I managed to quit for a few months (two or three) and during these periods, the porn addiction was replaced by obsessions and mental compulsions.

Do you have a daily mindfulness practice?
Getting aware of our thoughts and witnessing them...but not letting them be in charge can help a lot. What we resist persists.
It can take a while, but being committed to regulating your nervous system other ways, like wake up and do breathing exercises, yoga, can help so much.
Sleep meditation at night is good (I do a 10 minute guided one every night).
It is very hard to have compulsive thinking while actively focusing on deep breathing. Count of 4 inhale hold for a count of 2, exhale for a count of 4-6, hold for a count of 2. That's a simple one to start with. This helps to be in your body, instead of in your head. Even if it's for a minute, it's a start, a progress.
Healing one's attachment style, the core wounds, is hugely helpful in lessening triggers of all sorts.
As the body, mind, spirit, reset, so much is possible.
I wish you deep, lasting healing 💫

I wouldn't say you have a mental disorder, but the classic addiction symptoms. Your brain takes about a year to be able to break away from something. It is common that people who quit smoking resort to chewing gum or drinking soda to compensate for the oral addiction of smoking. And it is very common for alcoholics to run back to it as soon as something distressing happens. It takes years to program your brain, and it takes an equal amount of time to un-program. In the Interim, your conscious, logical side of your brain is fighting with the unconscious, instinctual side of your brain that has learned that porn is necessary for its survival. Your brain is seeking new dopamine sources when you are experiencing this. I speak as a fellow guy trying to break this addiction. Our lives are stressful, and we have trained that brain that relaxing means fapping to porn, so it craves it. We need to learn to get our Dopamine hit through doing something productive and satisfying like writing or crafting.

I was alone between 2007 till 2016 and by the time I found someone who I can call friend. He died 2 years later and my mind broke. I am trying to get out of it ever since. I was in despair. For real addicts, it doesnt matter how many triggers I tried to avoid. The most powerful desire to stop was of no avail. It was only when I experienced a psychic change as a result of working the 12 steps of AA, that I found happiness, freedom, and peace. I dont control or avoid triggers, because my obsession with lust has been removed. All I have to do is a few simple actions each day. If you have tried everything to stop, failed, and lost hope, I assure you there is a solution. It is found in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.

I have been a kiss less virgin for my entire adult life. I suppose I started using pornography for the same reason any teen boy would use pornography. Sexual Curiosity. Then as I grew further and further into adult hood and having to remain celibate that entire time, it got to be something I viewed to kind of replace or compensate for what I was missing in my real life. Then as more time went by, I started using porn as a way of distracting myself from the harsh and empty reality of my own life. Today I am 56 years old and still a kiss less virgin. I am a normal heterosexuals' man trapped inside a hormonally charged human body with a hideous face. I have the same exact sexual drives, urges and yearnings as other men, I just don't have the same access because there's not a single, solitary woman on this planet the can stomach my looks. I have tried many times to give up pornography and every time this internal conflict has sabotaged me. I start thinking to myself, Even if I actually overcome this, then what? Even if I achieve sexual and porn sobriety, I'm still have to life out the rest of my adult life as a virgin, I'm still have to life out the rest of my life alone and I still have to live and deal with the torture that these pent up urges generate within me. I am full of anger and rage because I cannot change the way I look anymore than I can stop the earth from revolving in it's axes. I have tried everything that I can possibly think of to suppress and even purge these sexual urges and so far nothing at all has worked. I will overcome this porn addiction! What ever it takes come hell or high water. i just don't know what to do once I do overcome it?

For me - understanding the triggers (alone time) and understanding what to avoid (all pron, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TicTok, and some content on RUclips) has helped in my recovery.
Also, staying vigilant and mindful of when my brain tries to trick me into relapse.,
Those three actions have gotten me to day 66 of my recovery. There have been big changes and I’m excited to see what else comes my way from my enlightenment.

Where i am at now: I cut down my use to once per day. Which is a big improvement for me, over the past 14 years i would "do it" over several / many many times per day. I am glad i got this far, and i am already feeling benefits from cutting down.. the confidence, the type of energy i give off, is so much more healthy. This is going on two weeks now. I want to fully stop so i can get a real relationship in the real word, and decrease my anxiety in general...
What helped me, cut back is that i only "do it" with sound fully muted. I think this is key to start with... Then, i have started grounding and earthing..using a grounding mat when sleeping. this has helped me sleep, helped me with the mental aspect and the physical rushes of cravings.. i still get the physical rushes, but they are over much quicker and not as often... so, i while i still "do it" once per day, i am hoping to fully stop soon.
I think p0rn is a toxic drug, which is damaging men and women. It stops you from reaching your own happiness and potential. It stops you from being a beacon of light when you are out and about. The energy a porn addict gives off is bad. People who don't watch porn/masterbate give off confident glow, a energy that people can not only see, but feel.

I want to quit but I don't know if I can. I've been rubbing myself to sleep for 35 years. In that time, I can't remember going 48 hours without a nut. It started out like a personal Ambien. Now I find it hard to live without. My wife of 20 years used to be active. Lately it's been once a month (about as often as she cooks for me). My needs aren't being met. I don't want to end the marriage, I really don't want to date. I'd probably end up going to Thailand and doing p4p exclusively. I don't really even like women except for sex. All my relationships with them have been difficult starting with Mom.

Doctor I need your help please. I quit my PMO addiction 6 months ago. It was a 15 year addiction. I was starting to have lots of anxiety and physical symptoms before quitting which made me want to quit even more. I started to experience non-smooth muscle movement like for example in arms, legs, neck, lower back and stomach. Almost like rhythmic movement but only with slow intentional movement. My symptoms got worst when quitting PMO cold turkey. It's been 6 months now and haven't seen any improvement. I know forsure I messed up my dopamine system. Possibly even my acetylcholine. I watched your video on acetylcholine and you describe how it has to do with smooth muscle movement. On some research I did I came across a couple articles about how long time masterbation lowers acetylcholine levels. Please how True is this and do you think this can be resolved. No doctor has been able to help me. Including 4 neurologist who referred me to a psychiatrist. I'm not crazy just dealing with these symptoms. Is this part of PAWS? Perhaps my most pernicious trigger is when I start to like/feel good about myself. I become flooded with the desire to feel love and intimacy, then I notice there's nobody there but me, then become sad and frustrated, then I resort to a fantasy about achieving closeness through sexuality, then I go to porn to try and build out the fantasy. Then sooner or later the porn disappoints and/or leads me to content that wounds and shames me. Then I feel horrible and abstain for a while, begin to feel better, recover my self image start to feel good and the cycle repeats. Almost 30 years! Feeling good triggers loneliness, feeling bad is stable because it makes it feel more natural to be alone. I have also acted out within relationships because sometimes we can feel alone even when we have someone particularly if/when one or the other person is emotionally unavailable.

Stopped p*rn in september, first weeks I experienced severe headaches and some nausea but I peeked in some sexual photos so I kept my mind focused on P stuff
in the first days of October this escalated in a panic attack out of nowhere. Some weeks later (went cold turkey, not even a sexual thought) I felt better, just some derealization (like I was living in a movie and not in real life, guess it was brain fog)
Recently, at almost 90 days I had two weeks of depression, anxiety, disrupted sleep, sense of void (sensation that nothing rly makes sense in life) just when I thought I wouldn’t have experienced other withdrawals. I NEVER experienced depression before so it should be withdrawals-induced.
I wanna know, will this cycle of periodical withdrawal ever END? I know it gets better going on but my question is when am I gonna feel like I was before? I mean, the normal me that doesn’t live in his head constantly thinking about the worst scenarios, I hope I was clear

Get off porn, erase hyper stimulus, workout, maca and ginseng, you have to resensitize yourself. Could be a year, could be 3 months.

Thank you for this, Doc Snipes!
I also have a gaming addiction! I found that certain games I can play normally... like watching a television series. But some suck me right in and don't let go! Is it wise to drop both addictions at once, or just take it slow?

    • @DocSnipes

Managing multiple addictions can be a complex process, and the approach to addressing them can vary depending on individual circumstances. Here are some considerations based on the knowledge from the channel:
Similarities Between Porn and Gaming Addictions: Both porn and gaming can be addictive because they are available anytime, provide never-ending excitement, and increase dopamine and norepinephrine, which are pleasure and excitatory neurochemicals. This can create a cycle of addiction that can be challenging to break.
Addressing Multiple Addictions: It's important to recognize that both porn and gaming addictions can have significant impacts on various aspects of life, including relationships, work, and finances. When considering whether to drop both addictions at once or take it slow, it may be helpful to:
Identify Triggers and Vulnerabilities: Understanding what triggers your cravings and what makes you more vulnerable to these triggers is crucial. This can include times of day, emotions, or specific situations.
Develop Coping Skills: Addressing underlying issues such as low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, anger, and insomnia is essential. Developing healthier ways to manage these issues can support recovery.
Create a Plan: Consider making a list of alternative activities and removing or restricting access to porn and gaming as part of your recovery plan.
Seek Support: Engaging with support groups or a therapist can provide you with tools and techniques to manage your addictions and enhance your self-efficacy.
Gradual vs. Immediate Cessation: Some individuals may find it more manageable to focus on one addiction at a time, while others may prefer to address both simultaneously. This decision can depend on your level of support, the severity of the addictions, and your personal resilience and coping strategies.
It's advisable to consult with a mental health professional who can help you assess your situation and guide you in creating a personalized recovery plan. They can also provide support and resources tailored to your needs, which can increase the likelihood of successful recovery from both addictions. Remember, recovery is a personal journey, and what works for one person may not work for another. It's important to find a strategy that feels sustainable and supportive for you.
