Just bought what i thought were correct sized jeans, waist already loose after one or two wears. Also prefer a higher rise pair over those that just barely cling to your hips.
My step-father, who was born in 1918, had no choice but to wear jeans and bib overalls during the depression. When he became an adult, he refused to wear them. I never once saw him in them. He hated that I and my mom wore jeans all the time. Meanwhile, he wore slacks and, mainly, plaid golf pants. kinda like the sales guy on WKRP, lol.
My grandmother, born 1919, told me that when she was young, only poor people wore denim jeans. She finally came around and bought her first pair of jeans when she was in her 80s. I bet she never wore them out of the house. 🤭
great tips, my first experience with raw denim (21oz) was bought 2 size down because genuinely on the size chart it fit me, and only after the 1st soak it shrank quite far since it is also unsanforized, I had to really force it to pass the hip bone, and had to endure numb feeling when sitting for the first month, and through some first few washes I had to endure the shrinkage again over and over in a lesser and lesser degree (through a year perhaps) , until finally it settles and now 5 years later the jeans top block still fit me perfectly. I also like reinforced fly opening for jeans with button fly, because we tend to "rip" or "yank" open the fly, sometime the stitching on base of the fly opening can rip apart from this frequent opening motion, and to me the most important is the position of the back pocket, especially if you carry wallet. the small pocket for me is my "usb flash drive stick" pocket, I never put anything other than that in those, I wonder if that small pocket was really meant for a pocket watch or that is another myth, because it is on the right side, and usually pocket watch is worn on the left side the same how we wear wristwatch on the left side, since if we are right handed the right hand is operating a machine or doing something and our left hand is checking the time. I wonder if japan truly bought old machine from US or not because they also use Toyoda (toyota) looms from old time, they always been great at making strong fabrics for karate Gi , judo Gi, kendo Gi and other farmer or worker coat since before world war 2, its not hard to preset their own machine to produce twill in denim yarns to mimic those from the west with their own looms. Probably higher chance they imported the chainstitch machine from US than a loom machine.
I’m not hand washing and hang drying jeans…don’t care how much longer they will last. But, I do wash them in cold water, turned inside out, and use dark defense woolite…tumble dry on medium heat. And I will wear them about three times before washing. All of that seems to preserve the color for quite a while.
As a tailor for a major retailer, I am fitting both men and women in jeans. I have on numerous occasions recommended sizing down when there was 5% or more stretch. You're absolutely right that most people do not understand this. They simply ask for a particular size. More often than not the measure or size listed on the garment is not accurate. For instance, a waist 34 may measure 35 or more inches, and if there is added stretch, could easily fit a person who wears a waist 36. Manufacturers have in recent years made the sizing much more unreliable in an attempt to create a particular fit (Regular, Tapered, Slim, Extra Slim, Standard, Relaxed, etc.

washing my denim by hand is really no option. It may last twice as long but takes 5x the time. Not worth at all, i would rather buy a new one every once in a while.
Unless you're a construction worker or something, your jeans aren't going to get dirty enough to need vigorous washing with hands. Just soak them in detergent water for like half an hour, gently scrub off stains if any, throw the water away, rinse the jeans in washing machine on gentle setting , and hang dry them.
Many men think wearing something once makes it dirty. True for socks and underwear, (unless you are an ultralight hiker) but a sweater that is over a shirt is hardly dirty the first wear, same with pants unless you spill something on them. Shirts can be hung up after wearing to air out if you haven't actively sweated in them. On the other side is those who do not wash jeans for over a year, those will break down faster due to the excessive dirt at the time. Wearing your jeans 7 times before washing them is not going to show much difference. If you do construction work, etc., in jeans then you may want to wash more often, but we are mainly talking about wearing for fashion or style where they do not get soiled by hard labour.

When I was a teenager we would buy a pair of jeans and literally trash them to make them look wore out that was the style. The first wash with was with bleach to lighten them. Then you'd sit around with them on watching TV at night with your knees bent up and filing them with an emery board to wear the material out so when they got washed the next time the knees would blow out. Then since they were bell bottoms you would take the hem out of the bottom iron it flat so you would have a shagged bottom that would drag on the floor behind your foot. And we did all kinds of other stuff too there was a trick where you threw your jeans in the swimming pool for 24 hours and then wrap them around the tree in the sun to dry.
As I’ve gotten older my body shape has changed. I absolutely need a belt or suspenders with my jeans as well as other pants. If I get them so thighs that they won’t fall down, they’re super uncomfortable.
Good video, would be better if it covered modern polyester and spandex mixed jeans - are they better than 100% cotton ones in some aspects, if yes then what should be the right proportion for respective fabrics
THE most important detail on any pair of pants is the fabric thickness of the pockets. You keys will wear a hole in the pocket if its thin material. I have had this happen and its a serious problem. You cannot repair a torn pocket with thin fabric because it will just continue to wear and tear.
I don't think I ever referred to my jeans as denim. Always called them either jeans or blue jeans. Never denim. Denim is what I call my jacket or shirt. When it comes to fit I always make sure the waist is right as well as the length. Jeans that are too long can be fixed by simply cuffing them but jeans that are too short, can't really be fixed. Overall I like the look of those jeans and the price doesn't look bad. The jeans Jason Momoa wore in Aquaman are made from 15oz Japanese denim and cost over $400.00.
Um, none of the jeans I have bought (Levi's or Arizona Brand from Penny's) stretch like you demonstrated, nor do they have all of the reinforcements of construction that you showed. So I conclude that they are quite expensive.
I have several pairs of wrangler 13mwz that are over 10 years old, and they are starched extra heavy. My Ariats don't last as long and my cinch jeans I get about 8 years out of them. Non of these jeans are o er 100$, and I always machine wash hot, dry on high heat.
I hate the feeling of being tightly wrapped. And as an old guy there just is no point to it. And quite frankly I don't know who it is supposed to appeal to. It didn't do anything for me 30 or 40 years ago, and I don't expect it would work for me now. But that's just me. I respect others' opinions about themselves.
@eighteenin78 Like the way you summed that up. You can look good without discomfort. I lost my pretensiousness a long time ago. Nobody else pays your rent or mortgage payment. May as well do what feels right!
Cool video, thu my point is tha jeans is stone dead since it belong to the youth and better stay there if your aim is to be serious. My decision as a mature male to throw all of my jeans in the bin is liberated 😅
Respectfully, Back pockets are way too low.. Come one guys.....get this right. You're supposed to be the fashion guru not me. My wife got me in Wranglers in 1983 JUST BECAUSE the pockets make our butts look better,. Higher , smaller back pockets.
That's what jeans are supposed to look like: straight fitting and slightly baggy. Not the slim fit twink leotards that you see most men wearing these days. Also, they are raw selvedge jeans. They'll shrink after a couple of washes.
@@NostalgiaforInfinity saying that’s what they are supposed to look like is as opinion as what I said. You don’t have to have the complete opposite like skinny jeans either. I like a good functional fit that stretches and bends with my activity. When I try on jeans I do a full deep squat and jumping air squat to make sure that when it’s time to get ninja, I’m ready.
@@jamesruth690 "stretches and bends" If your fabric needs to stretch with your movement, then you're wearing clothes that are too tight. Jeans with spandex in them are just leotards. When you squat, you're supposed to pull the legs of your pants up a little near the thighs, so that there's enough material between the knees and hips to spread out when you squat. That's what men have been doing for decades and centuries ever since pants were invented. Most of the times you don't even need to do that if you're pants are loose enough and have enough material stacking near the shoes. Which is why *real* jeans that were originally worn by miners and construction works were loose and slightly long, like the ones he is wearing in the video. Modern slim fit jeans are designed more for the aesthetic, not function.
@@NostalgiaforInfinity I absolutely missed the days when I could buy jeans and they were denim. Or buying canvas pants and have true canvas. The stuff now is a joke.
@@jamesruth690 The whole point of buying denim was because you could work in the same clothes you wear everyday. In the past if you wanted to go out you had a different set of pants for that. Have you guys forgotten what it was like to be poor when you were kids?

When I buy jeans I always buy one with buttons and not a zip. Why did I think the small pocket was for a condom? I'm too old now to think differently.
Jeans don't have "belt holes." Men's pants of all kinds have "belt-loops."

LOL That Best Jeanist cameo 2 seconds in
when did the waist move to the hip?
Um, none of the jeans I have bought (Levi's or Arizona Brand from Penny's) stretch like you demonstrated, nor do they have all of the reinforcements of construction that you showed. So I conclude that they are quite expensive.
I have several pairs of wrangler 13mwz that are over 10 years old, and they are starched extra heavy. My Ariats don't last as long and my cinch jeans I get about 8 years out of them. Non of these jeans are o er 100$, and I always machine wash hot, dry on high heat.
Also, nice video by the way 😂😂
Thanks!
0:43 Who is that dude doing the squats?
0:48 *_Nice!_* 😏
I'm a loyal Wrangler guy so I don't have these problems unless I buy the cheap Wranglers from Walmart that doesn't say Rustler.
@eighteenin78
Like the way you summed that up. You can look good without discomfort. I lost my pretensiousness a long time ago. Nobody else pays your rent or mortgage payment. May as well do what feels right!
Great video and cool brand, but I don't see any options other than 5 pocket. Really want a side pocket for my phone.
You have to salvage a pocket from another pair and sew it on.
@@grlnexdoorable I've found some companies that make them.
Levi 501 last me 4 years then i get a new pair
Cool video, thu my point is tha jeans is stone dead since it belong to the youth and better stay there if your aim is to be serious.
My decision as a mature male to throw all of my jeans in the bin is liberated 😅
I looked Gustin to see if they actually made in continental America as opposed to some Pacific island.
It seems their factory is in North Carolina.
Carharrt used to be the best work jeans, now they've fallen off and Duluth Fire Hose is by FAR the best
Great ❤
Respectfully,
Back pockets are way too low.. Come one guys.....get this right. You're supposed to be the fashion guru not me. My wife got me in Wranglers in 1983 JUST BECAUSE the pockets make our butts look better,. Higher , smaller back pockets.
Denim doesn't drape. Cotton itself doesn't really drape.
And Wrangler cowboy cut jeans aren't selvedge but last forever too
Jean (Jeans) are suppose to be washed in vinegar.
I love denim pants and shorts only if they have a gusset in the crotch. They are much better for the family jewels.
Bought some of the most expensive, tough, raw denim, still get crotch blowout around 3-6months 😂
I like baggy jeans I ain’t a women. Straight pants only
When watching your video we do get history of that style or fashion.
The 5th pocket is for chapstick.
first
Denim is the material jeans are made of, jeans are the pants themselves.

At 3:19 those jeans do not look good. No disrespect intended.
@@jamesruth690 "stretches and bends"
If your fabric needs to stretch with your movement, then you're wearing clothes that are too tight.
@@NostalgiaforInfinity
I absolutely missed the days when I could buy jeans and they were denim. Or buying canvas pants and have true canvas. The stuff now is a joke.
@@jamesruth690
The whole point of buying denim was because you could work in the same clothes you wear everyday.
In the past if you wanted to go out you had a different set of pants for that. Have you guys forgotten what it was like to be poor when you were kids?
I must say that this video was disappointing for me.
I have been following you for quite a while and really like your videos I came back after some time of not watching and I saw this video thumbnails and thought to myself "This is the video I have been searching for about the crotch area in jeans!" but it wasn't, and the title also didn't help much to make it clear. this video has a lot of useful information but:
1) not what it shows it should have
2)even if I want to go back to this video in the future there is no memorable sign for me to do so
the second problem I want to point out is the editing, what happened to your professional look? in the past there ware no anime memes or unprofessional ones, even if most of your audience are teens they like you because of how adult and responsible the feelings that you gave made them feel in my opinion.
in conclusion, it is disappointing and I guess I will only watch your videos rarely if at all now because this is not what made me want to subscribe to you...
Wash your jeans after every wear? Absolutely weird.
I luv the 'I just pissed my pants ' look or affectionately known as the 'Homeless' look. The faded yellow on the crotch & thigh areas looks so fresh.
Skinny jeans on a guy looks so stupid. And the short leg pants that's awful looking..makes your feet look twice as big.i like jeans not tight but not lose
