Hey folks! Thanks for the kind words! Yes, standard tuning revisited. I've never had anything against standard tuning. It's still the tuning I played in first and know best, even though I rarely use it. But it was the perfect tuning for the chord voicings and the vibe I wanted to get for this tune. And many of you have picked up on the Motown feel, which was most definitely intentional! And the most direct inspiration for this tune was a Hugh Masekela chart called "Grazing in the Grass."
Every time I watch this...It's brand new. I'll go months without watching anything like this sometimes, but when I do come back around to it, it reminds me that my love for this type of music is no fad or chapter of my life. It is and always will be important to me. Thanks Don Ross and everyone from Candyrat.
@DonRossMusic Hi Don, love your music and I'd love to see you play live...any chance you'll be in the Carolinas in the near future? I saw Peter Ciluzzi, Craig D'Andrea, Gareth Pearson and Ewan Dobson at The Evening Muse for Candyrat Guitar Night, and I'd love to see the master play!
@TheRealrocker74 Don Ross uses Marc Beneteau while Craig D'Andrea mainly uses the Beauregards. If im not mistaken, Antoine Dufour uses Stonebridge . . . They dont all use Beauregards
Thumps up for everything in this happy peppy world, why for? 24 people love music and life too, but taste is different like guitar sounds and styles :)
You can't hide the fact this was a one take video and recording. The chord mastery and speed here is noteworthy, and I love the tune as well. Not sure if its in standard tuning (maybe drop d) but its a refreshing break from the completely crazy tunings proliferating on Candyrat. The washed out black and white works for me as well.
You're making me jelous...Got my arm stuck in a cast for 3 months and can't pick up a guitar in that time. Seeing/hearing playing like this is really giving me the urge to play BUT I'VE GOT 7 WEEKS LEFT. AAAAAAHHHHHH : ) Nice playing man.
I really like this dude's funky style, more jazzy than most of the acoustic 'slap tappers' out there all over the place, kind of like Michael Hedges mind-melds with about 1/3 of Tuck Andress 'Reckless Precision' album on a jangly cool hippy acoustic from when the band 'America' was hitting high on the charts.
@hellotoyouandmeandyo please correct me on this, but surely "sus4" would mean the chord had no 3rd (suspended), meaning it would neither be major nor minor? So surely it would be a Em11 chord, or an A7sus4add9/E? Please correct me, I'm not very good at this!

@DonRossMusic You're absolutely amazing. Respect.
@MrIbanezExclusive Actually, both Craig and I play Beneteaus and Antoine plays Beauregards.
What an amazing talent. How his songs can be so technically complex, and yet so pretty is amazing to me.
I miss the hair! And come to Arizona, please.
The only reason why I haven't bought any of his music yet is because half (maybe more) of the magic for me is watching him play.
called muscle memory, bro & huge love for not only listening music... its about beeing the music.
NICE!!!! I was just thinking last week about how difficult it was to find a good version of this song, and now there is one!!!!
Been listening for years
Don Ross is the best guitar player I know. Beside Tommy Emanuel, Ross always gets me listening to the whole song. - Great work.
Excellent piece.
I never knew I could be so inspired and discouraged at the same time
I will always enjoy the pure sound of an acoustic guitar Well Done Sir.
