- This song goes out to all those who ever lost at love and still carried the torch many years after ... especially to those who remain tortured by the dream of what could have been, should have been, but was somehow mysteriously prevented from happening. The New Colony Six's "Things I'd Like To Say," in my opinion, was years ahead of most other pop rock love songs of the late 1960's. The resolute sadness of this melody prevails, despite the uplifting string variation suggesting there is still hope for the broken couple, only to return to a somber reality and the distinctive and haunting piano ending which sets it apart as one of the best love songs of all time.

I remember seeing this song performed on the tv when I was very young. They were standing at the edge of the ocean at twilight. Oh, my heart!!!
Working through the chords on this song is a thinking man's exercise, and I love it for that reason ...
And I will never get tired of the Cmaj9 on "Sometimes love hurts."
Oh, this song is so beautifully convoluted. It really plays with your heartstrings. Then that awful sad piano at the end.
Amazing !oh the pain this one brings !Thanks Mr .Munrow!
You are welcome! This was a unique song for the time, but also intensely sad.
A true masterpiece from 1969. Great memories.
I agree. It was one of the best songs of that year, and one I'll never want to forget.
I was a toddler in 1969, but I think Maurice White of Earth, Wind, and Fire was a session player on some of their records, but I could be wrong. Cool group.
Of all the New Colony Six tunes...this is my favorite. Sure reminds me of great memories of the late 60's when I was in high school in Indianapolis.
They hit it right on the money. No he didn't take her away from me but I left the relationship twenty years ago and today I totally adore her.
FANTASTIC Does not get better than this.
Thanks Cindy! This song was always special to me for some reason at age 15. It had so much appeal and loveliness, a soft and quiet song really, yet seemed so heartbreaking, especially the ending to the song, the piano fading off into the years. Glad you like it too.
I was twelve. Life was complicated but I remember feeling comforted when this song hit the airwaves.
A great song of1969❤
What a sweet song🥰🩷
Great work with the pictures on an obscure hit from the sixties. Just beautiful!
Many thanks Mr Bond! You know, your avatar look terribly familiar. Didn't we discuss this video about nine or ten years ago? In any case, thanks for coming back to watch again and comment!
not so obscure, #16 in U.S................
Nice to see your channel back up.
Hey thanks .. glad to be back!
@@mikemunrowsretro8973 Yes Mike we did discuss this remarkable video at length some years ago. Glad you're back.
If their love was so great, why is she with another guy now ?
His love for her is great. That is why he is wishing her well, despite her choice to find another man. He hopes she will change her mind, but it is a useless wish. The concluding piano part essentially tells us it is over forever. Why she left him for someone else, we don't know. What can I say? Love can be fickle. I don't know if your question was asked seriously or not, but I am giving you a serious answer.
