Our Featured Record Called "Never Be Lonely" Was Originally The "B" Side Of A Single Released In 1971. It Sounds A Lot Like The Big Hits With Much Of The Same Texture And Style. If You Like The New Colony Six, "Never Be Lonely" Is Sure To Become One Of Your New "Flashback Favorites"!

The New Colony Six are a criminally underrated pop group. Every one of their beautiful 7" vinyl singles are pop masterpieces. Gorgeous vocals with lush rich instrumentations. Timeless classic pop music it still sounds wonderful in 2022.

I am just totally speechless as to why this song didn't ever chart. To me this is definitely top ten, if not higher; an absolutely beautiful melody.

MusicMike the fact the group released this song TWICE and it didn't hit is indeed a real head scratcher. At least the group felt it deserved two chances to succeed. As a beautiful piece of music, I think it did! Thanks for posting this!

NC6 played our senior homecoming in ‘75 in the western suburbs of Chicago. I’ll never forget slow dancing to these songs with my girlfriend. Cherished memories for the rest of my life.❤️

·colonyjr - Really do appreciate you keeping our music alive for new generations, Mike. Drop a line if you ever wind up in Chicagoland during summer fest season when we still do a show or six each year. Also, thanks for the kind words about our garage music - always was & probably always will be my fave era of the band's many years of changing genres & hits "in the day"! This song was written by Bob Wilson who was never an actual member of NC6 but occasionally played with them at gigs around Chicago. He is now a retired high school principal here in Nashville who leads a wonderful oldies band "Timeline" and can be heard pretty often around here.

Never heard this, but I really like it. It's a shame this song didn't become a huge hit in '71, the years of Carole King / Carly Simon / Jim Croce / James Taylor, to name just a few. ---------------MJL, 75 y/o

Music Mike : As always, my thanks to you ! I did hear this , driving from LA, back to Denver, on KOMA in Oklahoma, which, in those days, you could get late night, from Denver, all the way to Needles CA. . In fact, I think it was Deejay J. Frank Wilson who played it. I loved the song, but he never said, who did it, so i never knew until now. that was in the fall of '71, so very, very long ago. I still say, the 70's were THE very best decade for music , & we'll never again, see the likes of it. -------------Thank-you, once again.------------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o

Ronnie Rice does a great job on this vocal. If you like this one, you'd like NC6's "Long Time To Be Alone" even better.
You might locate Bob Wilson by checking with Kent Kotal in Chicago.
Yes, Skip played on some NC6 material too. Be sure and check out NC6's "Muddy Feet on the Mississippi" for some great lead guitar from Skip.

I heard this song for the first time not too many years ago. It's was instantly my favorite NC6 song of all time. When you discover a song like this that doesn't carry any baggage from years gone by it's just great to appreciate it for just the quality of its vocal arrangement, words and orchestration. It's also just another example of the horns that originally came out of Chicago in the 60's and were so prevalent in so many of the great songs of the 70's. Thanks Mike !!!

Bob Wilson also wrote the song , "People and Me" for The NC6 .- They released it on the Mercury label as a 45 in 1970.

·datu52 - Hey Chicago Baby Boomers, help me with some detective work. I've been looking for a guy named Bob Wilson who was the singer guitarist with several bands who played at high school dances. He recorded an LP with Kevin McCann and Skip Griparis "Trilogy" and searching for Griparis led me to this NC6 tune. I recognized it as a song from a demo 45 that Bob Wilson made in '67 or '68. Freeze this clip at3:18 and you'll see "R. Wilson" as the writer on the 45 label. Any info?
