I love this song so much. It has a very special place in my heat. In 1967 I was just out of H.S. there was this very special girl who I had loved for four years but she had no clue. I was too shy, afraid and just plain stupid. That summer of 1967 I thought I would never see her again. But something very strange and wonderful happened, she found me with her beautiful letter. We were married 10 months later. That was 53 years ago. We are still very much in love. I am such a lucky guy to have the only girl I ever loved.
Surprised u didn't get drafted and sent to Nam. My uncle was kia a about a month b 4 this tune came out in SouthVietnams Central Highlands mid-3/1968 , tail end of tet. The 2nd tune remember well wen it came out early spring 1969.
@@luiscalcano4359 Thanks Luis for our message. Yes I did get drafted, 09-03- 68. I went to Basic Trng In the Air Force 09-02-68, I almost cut it too close. I went to S.E Asia in 1970, Thailand and Vietnam . I was lucky to come home in one piece. Stay safe my friend.
So glad she wrote you that letter. Thank you for your service, and Welcome Home. My wife and I just saw them on Friday September 30 2022, they sound just as good as they did when they first recorded it. All the best to you and your wife.
The world has lost innocence that this music represents! Wish with all my heart that we could return to the magical era of songs like this but, sadly, it's impossible. Today's youth will never know the true meaning of LOVE and all it represents; mainly, self-respect and respects for one's partner, in all phases of life's journey.
I totally agree 100%…. I was very young when this song came out-but have always loved music from this era. What a dark/cold world we are now living in…
@@joecalandriello8576 Not bragging, but I met Ronnie Rice. I've seen New Colony Six, Buckinghams, Ides of March, Cryan" Shames, Shadows of Knight playing around Chicago. Like you said, "another great Chicago band. ✌️

I've been looking for this song since the 70's...I was starting to think I had imagined it... the lyrics are so sweet and so sincere, and spoke so wonderfully to me at age 14...today I found my song and my group "New Colony Six"..It is as wonderful as I remembered!
Beautiful pieces. The vocals, instrumentation, gorgeous melody, piano solo at the end. Perfect. We don’t get this kind of music today. Full of memories.
New Colony Six's two greatest songs on the same record! When Ron Rice joined this group they took off. Just some of my favorite songs growing up in my teen years in the late Sixties. I'm so glad I lived through that era. Simply beautiful music. I play this nonstop. Thanks Rick for putting it all together.
They were big in Chicago from their very first record. WLS would play every record they put out as if it was The Beatles. WLS loved local Chicago bands.
Just so that you know, Chuck Jobes, a gifted musician, songwriter and vocalist, added that piece and it is a classic. He recently retired from performing but what a dear friend and superior artist on the keyboards...
straight from the heart. these 2 helped get me through my teens and now my 70s. i will always think about them. thanks mr. rice for writing them and mr. szatlowski for making them available!!
I know the New Colony Six had a number of hits. But, the two big Ronnie Rice songs were grand slams. I really love the innocence of these songs. I enjoy singing these songs. There are so many nice points about these songs. I am happy many others enjoy these songs also.
One of My All Time Favorite Songs!!! I was singing it at Federal Express one day....a Good Friend put it on Cassette for Me! And it's still one of my "go to" Songs! Thanks David Hembree!
Ronnie remains alive and performing as of today, 5-15-24. He and I are part of a Chicago bands' mini tour called "Cornerstones of Rock" so look us up and come see a show while both Ronnie and I remain able to perform for you...
Can't find it now but shortly after I posted this someone said he was still alive. I had read an article that stated he had passed away during covid. But later I did find out he was fine. And I replied stating he was ok.
Got to see the New Colony Six at a little dance hall in Forrest, Illinois in 1967 when I was 16, seems like it was just yesterday, always remember how great there songs were, even now at 72! ❤
So sweet but too melancholic melody. It's, a heartfelt rendition. The singer as if he has so much love and passion inside his heart. Brings back the memories of my youth.
Dedicate this to my love Debi Wade. Perhaps in another world we could have lived our lives as one beyond the hatred and racism of your world and mine. Our friends were right, we would have had the prettiest American Indian and African-Asian American children!! I will love you forever.......... Your Young Lion
bingo !!! They certainly became a big pop success with this one and, "Things I'd like to Say " Saw them play in peoria and it made one night bearable there, they were a real delight... I remember when they were a garage band.. mushy stuff but wonderful
FALL OF '68, AS i BEST NOW RECALL, i LOVED THIS SONG & SO WISH I WAS BACK THERE ONCE AGAIN. TAMI, THIS IS ALL FOR YOU, & ABOUT YOU.---------------------MJL, 75 Y/O
This song reminds Me of my junior year in high school where I had a crush on the prettiest and most popular girl in school. I remember going home after school and going to my bedroom and listening to the radio or play records. This was one I would listen to and daydream. I finally asked her for a date my freshman year in college. She was still a senior in high school. We dated about two months and I took her home after a date one night and she broke up with me. I told her I would not be back thinking it probably didn’t matter to her anyway. I was a baseball player in college and one day I looked up and she and several of her friends were in the bleachers. One of the girls came to the dugout between innings and told me Margie wanted to ask me something. I met her behind the dugout and she asked if I would be her date for the prom. I said I told you I wouldn’t be back. I said no and turned and walked away. I had not really gotten over her until I did that. I found out years later that she really did want to get back together. But by that time I had someone else. I think she thought I would drop my girlfriend for her by the letter she sent me. But I didn’t. It reminds me of the Grassroots song: “Where was you when I needed you.”
Oh that time!!! This was such a beautiful song that captured it all. Timeless. To my love Mary M. You will never know how much I cared. RIP. Why isn’t this on ITunes? Anyone know?

Two of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.
Yes! I was only 15 but I still remember and still love both. My sister Lillie (no longer alive) used to play them over and over.

SAME.
The piano coda that closes "Things I'd Like to Say" is so beautiful and touching...my favorite part of this song...I just love it.
While im just lovin and mesmerized by the song, the take out with the piano leaves me thinking, just thinking...
