MIKE MUNROW'S RETRO
США
Добавлен 11 ноя 2021
Hi, it's me again, formerly known here at RUclips simply as MUNROWS RETRO. I'm back and hope this time around I am here to stay! I started out as a big playlist maker on RUclips back in 2012 when I accidentally discovered I was also good at making music videos. Since then I've progressed to also making short films and visual essays with musical or ambient background, but hope to one day actually do some filming and make a real movie. I've been lurking around at Vimeo and Dailymotion for the last several years as MUNROW'S RETRO (note the apostrophe in MUNROW'S, I couldn't get one for my brand name on here last time for some reason) but hope to make a go of it again on RUclips ... where it all began so long ago!
Big Electric Cat - Cat People (Putting Out Fire) (1997), starring Nastassja Kinski
This is my second video featuring the music of Big Electric Cat, the first one being "Orchid Dreaming." From Vampire Themes (1997), this is their cover of "Cat People (Putting
Out Fire)," originally recorded by David Bowie for the 1982 film, Cat People. While most of the footage is from Cat People, I felt I could at least cinematically give tribute to David Bowie using some scenes from another film from that time, The Hunger (1983). Also, a bit of Bauhaus performing for visual mood.
Big Electric Cat is a gothic rock group from Sydney, Australia, formed by musicians Paul Sadler and Deborah Denton, who had moved from London to Sydney in 1989. In 1991, inspired by Philip K. Dick's sci-fi nove...

David Bowie - Changes (1972, 1975)
Просмотров 10019 часов назад
From the Hunky Dory album (1971). This song actually debuted as a single TWICE in the United States: first in April 1972 and again appearing in November 1974 following the success of the live LP, David Live, released in September 1974. I remember hearing the song on the radio during both periods ... quite fondly. The live album would become such a smash in America that the live track of "Change...
Neil Sedaka - Angel Eyes (1961)
Просмотров 10419 часов назад
This video always got blocked worldwide on my previous channel until January 2019, although it was made in 2017. From his 1961 LP, Circulate, this is Neil Sedaka's version of "Angel Eyes" ... a 1946 popular jazz standard composed by Matt Dennis and Earl Brent. A powerful rendition by Mr. Sedaka, it would have worked quite well as a film noir theme. And so, it is applied in this video. Don't Bot...
Boz Scaggs - Lowdown (1976)
Просмотров 13919 часов назад
Hey .. lookin' for Mr. Goodbar? Guess they were lookin' back in the Roaring 20's too! My fav Boz Scaggs tune, legendary pop dance hit Lowdown gets the silent treatment in this vintage montage. This one I'd definitely put on my Top Ten best disco hits ... it got a lot of requests back when I was doing the DJ thing, about as often as Gino Vannelli and Billy Joel songs were. So, hang up those disc...
Syndicate Of Sound - Little Girl (1966)
Просмотров 22819 часов назад
Originally published at RUclips on April 27, 2014. The Syndicate of Sound, along with other garage bands like Count Five and Music Machine, helped pave the way for the psychedelic sound in 1966. Their hit single, "Little Girl," reached #8 on the Top Ten in June of that year. This video tributes the song, the group, and the times of a true 60's rock classic.
The Monkees - (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone (1966)
Просмотров 17119 часов назад
Originally published at RUclips on January 29, 2015. More mindless psychedelic fun coming your way, this time from the famous TV rock band, The Monkees. "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" was probably one of the best songs the group ever did, becoming a very popular surprise hit for the psychedelic crowd. As the B-side of the #1 hit "I'm A Believer," it charted in its own right at #20 on Billboard...
Focus - Hocus Pocus (1973)
Просмотров 17119 часов назад
Originally released in Europe in 1971, "Hocus Pocus" failed to chart. Focus re-recorded a faster version in late 1972 and re-released the single in Europe as well as the United States and Canada while conducting three North American tours with Yes, Frank Zappa, and Gentle Giant. It was with a major BANG that the instrumental rock hit appeared seemingly out of nowhere on North American charts on...

Here is another favorite of mine from Procol Harum's first, self-titled album ... just in time for Halloween. Enjoy!
Intro: Christopher Lee - Assembled by The Doctor (1997), from Vampire Themes
Просмотров 83День назад
The first track from the CD, Vampire Themes. A tribute the late, great actor Christopher Lee who appeared in so many roles and in so many films. I wish had more material to share, but unfortunately, I lost forever the Roger Moore 007 film, The Man With The Golden Gun, where Lee played Francisco Scaramanga ... lost with so much other great source footage, films and live rock concerts when my com...

The Bobby Hammack Quartet - Powerhouse (1955)
Просмотров 5314 дней назад
Welcome RUclips dinner audience, here's a fine jazz melody to keep your feet moving while you munch away on your hors d'oeuvres. This manic little number is the title track from the Powerhouse album by The Bobby Hammack Quartet, which my late father bought brand new (I still have it somewhere). "Powerhouse" was originally recorded by The Raymond Scott Quintette 20 years earlier. The tempo is qu...
Foghat - Honey Hush (1974)
Просмотров 13814 дней назад
From track one of Foghat's 1974 album, Energizer. The band's version is in part based on The Yardbirds' version of "The Train Kept A-Rollin'." The blues lyrics essentially depict a domestic argument between spouses or a boyfriend and girlfriend. The male ideates his rage as a sort of Western standoff between the Lone Ranger and an adversary as symbolized by the lyrics: "Well it's hi-yo, hi-yo s...
Donovan - Season Of The Witch (1966)
Просмотров 13314 дней назад
Originally published at RUclips on October 10, 2018. Another popular Donovan song featuring Jimmy Page on guitar! Recorded in May 1966 and released to US audiences in late August on the album Sunshine Superman, it was never released as a single, but instead became popular with the FM radio audience as deep cut. Due to the release of a cover of the song by The Pandamonium as as single in Novembe...

Elyse Weinberg - Mortuary Bound (1968)
Просмотров 9814 дней назад
I was 15 going on 16 when I first heard this delightfully macabre and amusing blues/jazz number back in late September 1969 and recorded it on my reel to reel. Unfortunately, the FM radio disk jockey failed to mention the name of the female singer/songwriter or her album (or mumbled it). When the recorder and the tapes all went the way of most obsolete products back in the day, I had only my me...

She is enchanting so is this production
Borrows much from Poor Little Fool by Ricky Nelson
What a beauty was NK; What a beast her father.
Great music combined with Nastassja Kinski - who could ask for more?
The Golden Age.... I mean, today's music is just as good.
Born and raised in Germany, I was a teenager when this song was a hit on the radio, it is still a favorite song of mine! Thank you Cornelius Family
Great post, thank you! :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great song 🎵
Super Roxy
Funny video! Dedicated followers of fashion they are... Where is Carnaby street? ✨🎶
Return of the Living Dead 3 couple, actors on motorcycle! Found it 👍
Who are the actors on the motorcycle! They look familiar! Thank you!.
Found them! Return of the Living Dead 3 👍😊
I've still got my 45 lp! Still gives me goosebumps! Based on the guitarist friend that crashed a plane he was flying, he witnessed it! Pickens, the guitarist of Blood Rock!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks Cathy!
I'm just discovering these dream mixes by TD and they sound great. It's sounds more mainstream than their usually stuff. I'm suprised some of these tracks were not popular in the 90s dance scene.
It was and still is great music. Tangerine Dream were the real founding fathers of Techno or Tech House, which is danceable. That music is still big today, and this material released in the mid-1990s obviously still works. I recently watched the film Thief (1981) again starring James Caan and Tuesday Weld, TD did the soundtrack, and THAT still works in 2024 ... over 43 years later.
You're wrong, Shelley Fabares had the #11 song of the year in 1962 (according to Billboard); "Bobby's Girl" came in at #31.
You are wrong, dead wrong. This is Marcie Blane's version. Correct? Okay. here it is, from Wikipeda: "Blane's version of the song was released in the United States in August, 1962. It has a spoken introduction and a backing refrain of "You're not a kid anymore" and was popular with the American teenage audience. It entered the charts in October and made the Top 10 within a month, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 by December, where it stayed for four weeks. It reached No. 2 on the Cash Box chart, staying on the charts for nineteen weeks, and made Blane (very briefly) the top-selling female singer in the US." So, not only did it make #3 on Billboard's Hot 100, but it actually did better on Cash Box peaking at #2. This was in December 1962 when it first peaked, so it counts as a #3 and a #2 hit for 1962 (in case you are going to try to say it was a 1963 hit). I actually should have said it was #2 hit and not a #3 hit if I did anything wrong, because I believe Cash Box was a better Top 100 chart. Why was Cash Box better than Billboard? Because they also included jukebox receipts of the songs played whereas Billboard never factored in jukebox sales.
@@mikemunrowsretro8973 First, I don't give a damn about Cash Box, Billboard has always been the gold standard for record sales and charts...all of the Joel Whitburn books are based on Billboard, not CAsh Box, and there's a reason for it. And if you are talking about standings FOR THE YEAR 1962, on Billboard, Shelley fared much higher than Marcie did with her one-hit wonder. And that's what I go by...Billboard...like most people do.
Woooow , musique magnifique.
The album version is long (both sides of an LP), and Oldfield's composition is fabulous. But this single is a rarity in the way in which it was mixed, including a more distinctive lead guitar part.
Song was inspired by their 1st trip to America. New York City bar. Gal was doing the dance of the 7 veils. Thus. This song
Thanks John! I agree its origins were different than what I represented in this video. But that use of an electric banjo gave it a definite carny flavour I just could not resist working with.
@ they have a video telling the story about that trip. After seeing the lady dance. They said we gotta have a song for this.
@@johnegli1308 I think too one dead giveaway that this is a bar is the lyrics about the bar tables. Thanks for the info on the Hollies video. May check it out.
I dont think its original music to the film
It's not. I use all kinds of footage in my videos to go along with the song I am working with. Sometimes I find myself doing the opposite, I may work with footage for a song, not like it, and find a better song, although I am usually not that far into the video when that happens. Occasionally lightning strikes and I have an idea for a song right away. Sometimes though I will do the original music for a film and do a visual essay to go with that music, such as my video for "Town Without Pity" by Gene Pitney, where I featured the film as his song was part of the theme music for it. That may have been my best video made in 2019.
@mikemunrowsretro8973 I will check it out. I have been going through your videos as time allows. I savor each experience. Btw my comment was not serious. The song tempo fit the dance quite humorous.
I remember hearing this as a kid. Frank Sinatra version I believe
I'm sure Frank Sinatra covered this one. A lot of the major singers did. I got this from an album featuring some hits as well as covers and non-hits by Neil Sedaka and liked it so much I did the video. For me a song doesn't have to be a hit single to be worth making a video out of it. In fact, probably half the songs I have done are covers or deep cuts or music that is otherwise obscure.
@mikemunrowsretro8973 yes I noticed. You have a deep catalogue of music knowledge. I was thinking you should do a smoking video for the song Nicotine by Paul Chaplain and the Emeralds. There's lots of good smoking scenes in old footage plus the smoke could be put to some creative use visually - just an idea.
They all worked over that same treasure trove of songs. There wasn't that singer as songwriter dynamic that flourished later. You might be too young to remember but there was a show called Your Hit Parade and all they did were the same songs all known as " standards" The singer's didn't write they were known as "coroners" even big deal Elvis didn't write songs. That is why the British invasion gave us artists who were much more talented and worthy of praise.
@@frankwalton7323 That's one of my weak spots. I grew up in a time when smoking was normal. Even after I gave up cigarettes in 1985, it was still normal activity. Somewhere along the way, guys got the idea that seeing a woman smoke a cigarette was somehow "hot." But it was so commonplace, I never have been able to see it that way. But your ideas seem to add another dimension to smoking, so perhaps I might consider it ... if I like the song.
Crooners sorry
Great song , have a 45 of this one
Another of my favorite jukebox hits in summer '68. I plunked in plenty of coin to hear this one.
You are correct. At least you get it. The scenery is mind blowing, and I thank you for touching my soul. Sometimes women are capable of doing that.
Absolutely! Thanks for sharing!

Just when I was thinking I know a lot of music I come across The Authority . Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Frank. Will do!
Love this song guys were guys come on duds we need you.😂
Not trying to be a snob, but a lot of today’s music is total rubbish compared to this. Sorry, not sorry.
If I could go back in time, I would only go here, to the 60's and America!✨️✨️✨️
Thanks for putting this back up,since you are the only one to make a video for it,will be adding it to one of my Classic Rock playlists.
Brilliant,thank you.
You are welcome!
I don't think i could ever do it. Thank you all who have.
Masterpiece by a classic band. ❤
I was so cool without a clue back then. At 24.
Just LOVE this song & the video !! ᕕ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕗ❣️💞💜💖
Thanks so much! This one was hugely popular on my previous channel.
Thank You for this video,…I LOVE this video !! 🥸👍🎶🎶🎶
I'm glad you like it! Thanks so much for watching. There is a counterfeit copy of this video that shows up on the RUclips search engine that someone stole from me 6 years ago that has a lot of views, a lot more than my original here is getting. I originally uploaded this at RUclips over 9 years ago.
I LOVE this song !! ( ͡↑ ͜ʖ ͡↑)👍❣️💞💜💖
It has a lot of special meaning to me.
KoooL Music !!,…I Really LIKE this song and I also #13

I’m supposed to be notified every time you release a video and that’s not happening. I just check your channel once a week, roughly.
Good to know, Steve! I guess RUclips is keeping me down anyway they can.
Nicely done!
Thank you! Cheers!
Brilliant...
Thanks!
Yeeeaaahhh ♡ it Mike🕊️
Thanks so much!
Good old tune. I wonder if it has had a more recent remix, bringing the bassline and guitar up a little. Thanks.
You're so welcome!
I was 8 and burning ants with a magnifying glass that particular Sunny Afternoon in 1966, Binswood Ave in Leamington Spa. Long time ago and better times.
What exactly is wrong with this video? It is beautiful and the music is too. Yet I lost two subscribers over it and received dislikes as well. Is this political or something?
High likes and low views. How is this possible? Hard work again went into this one, and it is new.
