every time I see a magnus tournament after watching other top grandmasters play, I just keep being reminded how far ahead magnus is compared to the vast majority of grandmasters. he's literally so good that he accepts losing openings against other gms because he doesn't care that much about losing and he knows he can win even if he's down in the opening.
the man only plays actually serious openings against a few super gms, other than that he forces weird games and then wins them based on his superior endgame skill, it's crazy

i think thats why he doesn't want to play world champion against gukesh, gukesh and ding tied a lot of games and i think magnus just thought that he would easily win both of them

For me its how he almost always plays for the win and generally dislikes draws. You know you are getting a real game when he is involved. After this shameful WC we need him back in the game forcing people to play for wins.

As someone who loves both UFC and chess, it’s awesome to hear Levy draw parallels between the two. The way he compares players to fighters and matches to fights is awesome, capturing the strategy and intensity they both share.

I had played about 10 games total before two weeks ago and I didnt even know what a stalemate was or that you could castle a king let alone the names of move sets. I’ve become obsessed with this game and I find myself loving levy’s breakdowns. I would love it if you made a long video explaining all the basic gambits and tactics and strategy and theories. Cheers

Levy may not be a GM in chess, but he's a super GM in entertainment
Total Choke from Wesley I also wondered why he didn’t make that knight check and than win another pawn he started playing so passively
Magnus could still win the WCC if he really wanted... he is just so dominant.
He's so good many people still could argue he is the true World Champion
the thing is: everyone knows that Magnus is still the best in the world. even Garry Kasparov said the WCC is useless when the best player doesnt play it.
And Magnus is right, as long nobody blunders (unlike Gukesh and Ding all 12 matches alternately), the WCC is very boring. you see so often the perfect 2 moves because of this long prep time. I had not much fun the most time watching the final, because i want see interesting chess and not a blunder-party at the point the prep is over like this (of course blunders because of high pressure is possible and normal for us humans but all 12 games and everytime directly after the prep?)
That Magnus blunder is as bad as Ding's blunder in the final game of the WCC. These two former champions are either too old or paid by their opponents to lose.

The shortened time control is the only future of chess. Classical chess is and should be dead.
Classical chess is like watching any sport (like boxing) in ultra slow motion as if both teams have that Tobey Maguire spiderman slow motion. But, if both guys have that cheat code, then nobody gets hit. Imagine 2 boxers facing off but their so perfectly defensive that no one ever gets hit. Not fun.
I'd rather watch these dynamic recaps 10x over having to sit through another Ding/Gukesh championship rematch.
