Levy rode the wave that happened during the pandemic. He helped popularize it too but let’s not pretend like he’s solely responsible for chess’s increased popularity over the last 4 years
@@Bryaaammnnn179 No one said he’s the only one to help the development of chess. It’s just that he was and still is essential in the chess world in terms of populating the game and inspiring more people
Im pretty sure it’s about hikaru manaru, you sure it’s magnus carlsen?🤠🤨 because according to all my (definetly right) caculations, I have concluded that he was talking about hikaru because of 4x1w12
I get why Magnus needs motivation to play Chess now... Imagine winning 9 games, 5 draws and only 1 loss, and you LOSE POINTS! At that point, you're not really playing for rating rewards, I don't think money is an issue for Magnus either, and an argument could be made that, had he just stayed home, he would've legit been better off than having to deal with the pressure that comes with being the best, the jetlag and all that just to lose rating. Truly, it all comes down to his love for the game. That's what motivates him because I don't see any legitimate incentive becides that, genuinely. I think this is probably what "broke" Ding after reaching the top, he couldn't cope with the pressure, the solitude and just the lack of motivation to keep going. We all joke sometimes about wanting to see Magnus lose and when he wins, as always we cheer for him, but that just goes to show why he's the GOAT!
So Magnus chooses a line with fewer options for black, hence the negative evaluation since it reduces blacks chances of a draw which is the perfect chess outcome. This leads his opponent into a stronger position with additional viable lines to option into. It's not to say that his opponent is "better" but that he has more options than Magnus; he still has to make the right choices in lines he's most likely not as experienced in. Magnus often uses the veteran approach of using sub-perfect lines that he simply knows better than his opponents. Most people will make a miss followed by another followed by a blunder. When Magnus intentionally induces a "mistake" into the game he takes pros out of their comfort zone. He's simply good enough to draw a game from a weaker position. This is where most opponents probably think that the mistake was big enough for them to find a win, but in doing so they greatly reduce their number of options. Magnus is a great gambler and his chess shows this in his tactics versus the best opponents. He knows his odds and he plays them brilliantly. Maybe try using ^ instead of your boxing similarities. You lack boxing cred is total and as a chess teacher you're better suited for giving your audience helpful insights in the game and its relation to the evaluation bar that you often narrate these games after. Maybe point out the correlation once or twice? That's unlike your boxing finesse actually valued content. Edit: In regard to boxing similarities the same goes for using colloquialisms like "squeezing water out of a stone"; what Magnus is doing... is that he's playing OUT the end-game which in chess is often agreed upon to a draw because they deem it's equal and the rest is history. Magnus doesn't. Unless it's super simple, he will play out every single end-game until there's one pawn left. Magnus doesn't fear losing so he goes for the win when he deems it possible. His opponents see "probably a draw" and stops to think of winning. I feel like the scary part about Magnus is how skillful he is in the end-game. People keep second guessing themselves because some games he intentionally get to an end-game knowing he's a pawn up. That's it. A pawn. Huge rant off my chest, feels good. I think you can do better, Levy. There will be a last Hikaru and a last Magnus game one day. Make the most of it. Cheers
I'd love to see Magnus knuckle down one last time and make a play for 2900 classical. I feel this new generation of GM's play for wins, less likely to play forced draws because they fear Magnus.
I don't think even he has it in him to go that high anymore. Too much theory around, too many high rated kids... he draws a game and loses 2 points, a loss costs 10 elo... it's very hard to win with black as well... so, if not even peak Magnus could do it, past-prime Magnus (he said it himself) in this era will hardly reach that, sadly
Alright, here’s a business idea for ya: If the cost of a chess board isn’t breaking the bank, toss one in for anyone who buys your 2.0 course! Seriously, people love that kinda stuff, and it’d probably be insane for your sales. Plus, imagine all the games they’ll play thinking, ‘This board got me here!’ Big-brain move, trust me.
I wonder who the videos is about (edit) I dont play chess but something about Levys commentary is just so marvelous I cant help but watch every single video
great video, I enjoyed it so much! thank you 🙏 this was the first tournament with Magnus I ever watched and the second in general and it was just awsome. I love getting explanations, later, its very interesting 👍👍👍
Hi Levy, I know there are a lot of jokes about how much you talk about Magnus Carlsen but I’d just like to show some appreciation for it as well. It’s seriously inspiring and dazzling in a way to hear you talk about the things he does, the passion in your work really comes through. So I thank you greatly for making this sort of stuff accessible to us average people, it’s a beautiful thing to be able to appreciate, even in a second hand way, some of the wonderment you yourself feel.
As I’m quite old I remember when Garri Kasparov was at his peak. I thought no one would ever be as good as him. Now when I see Magnus Carlsen I realize there will probably be an even better player with a rating of 3000.
