Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room HD breaks out a review of SPIDER-MAN for the Atari 2600 video game console VCS. Do you remember the Spiderman comic books from back in the day? Did you watch the Spider Man and His Amazing Friends TV show where he was friends with Iceman and Firestar? Did you like the first Spiderman movie but not the other two? Well, SPIDERMAN the video game is FOR YOU! This game is a lot of fun and a rare cartridge for you Atari 2600 collectors out there to find in mint condition. You play as Spidey, everyone's favorite web slinger, and climb up the sides of buildings to defeat bad guys and disarm bombs. Watch out for the Green Goblin! Venom does not make an appearance in this game. Although there have been other SPIDERMAN video games and maybe even some for the Playstation 3, PS3, Xbox 360, PS2 and Wii, this game could be the best because of its simplicity and fun gameplay. Be the Amazing Spider Man from Marvel Comics, be the owner of this classic arcade style old school retro video game.
Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. The HD series is reviewing PS3, PS2, Genesis, NES, Atari and Xbox 360. XBLA. videos review reviews show wii
I remember this game well. It may have had primitive graphics but the game play was fun. The thing is back then you used your imagination a lot more to compensate for the graphics and that took you away to far off places and different realms. These days people especially kids are spoiled with the state of the art graphics and the imagination part isn't called upon as much.
Nice review. Here is one detail I think he missed. The time limit gets shorter and shorter in each level. Capturing crooks (in the windows) gives you more time. Disarming the small balms will also give you more time. However, if your webs touch the balms, it will break your webbing and send you falling.
Its okay in the history of all Spider-Man video games over the years.
this is the first classic game room video i ever saw after that it was all i watched
I love spider man dyeing , its like
"AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh... *POF*"
Laura Nikolich wrote this game. I guess I found it frustrating that you couldn't put a walloping on Gobby. I always valued anything Spidey. I was pleased to see the first female game writer's name I've encountered from those times, since I recently got interested- so that 's kind of neat trivia.
Am I the only one ho thinks that spiderman 3 is the best? Just the most fun to watch. Harry is a badass.
Lol 3:48 when he dies... HAHA i love the thud
Well, one thing is for sure; I'm never taking any modern interactive entertainment for granted after watching this video.
The fun thing of Atari 2600 games is that the graphics made it difficult to tell what something is, got your imagination goin :)
I have an Amazing Spider Man comic book which advertised the game as "So hard, even the real Spider Man cannot beat it!" It was pretty funny seeing the Green Goblin and Spidey sitting around an Atari 2600. If I ever find out which of my comics it is, I'll scan it and put it on Flickr or Photobucket.
i used to have this game...brings back memories..
I love how Spidey dies with his arms and legs in the air like a... well, like a dead bug.
This game was bad ass; I'm sick of hearing people talk bad about it.
I still have never even gotten past that one green guy
My theory is that Spider-Man left the game in your collection when you were a kid knowing that he needed your help to prevent Green Goblin from destroying buildings with time bombs.
the robot at 4:55 reminded me of grounder from the adventures of sonic the hedgehog
yeah, the movies are made by the same company, I would suppose they would be sold together, or with similar endorsement and font. Noe the less your right, the font on this came cart looks similar.
Love your style of rewieving. I don't think I could find much positive about this gaming experience, but you set me straight again.
PS: I just bought a ps3. Finally I am awesome ;)
I remember playing this at friend's house after school years ago. The game is a lot like the old Crazy Climber coin operated game just with worse graphics. Yeesh, this takes me back. Games are SO much cooler and better now!
That last sentence is a massive overgeneralization. Games aren't "SO much cooler and better now," just different. Simple is best. Games these days look too busy. Even so, one game from the past should not be definitive of the standards then, especially when you're comparing to a whole current generation of games. That's an unfair and unbalanced comparison.
I never really got into this game. I did how read the Spiderman comics. And I totally agree. The comics were great and way better then the movies. The guy that plays Eric Foreman as Venom...WHAT WERE THEY THINKING! Anyhow, it is always such a let down falling off the building. Sounds like it really hurt lol. Cool video man.
4:42 is so funny!!!
This was also on the diskette for the pc. I had that one and it was kinda hard to play for me back in those days:).
Game was okay/fun.
love you man i played this game when i was kid omg
@ElGrandero You can quote AVGN. That's just amazing man.
Haha, it's interesting to note that the PS3's logo font is VERY similar to the "Spiderman 3" logo font, if not identical. Is it a coincidence that they included that movie with the PS3? You can be the judge of that.
can't remember the name but I used to have this controller thing that plugged into the tv, had over 100 games on it and this was on it. makes me want to find where it is
That's one large phallus.
Anyhow, I liked the subtle "Thud" when Spider-Man hits the hard, unforgiving concrete. XD
... and lucky adolescent Spidey, that stickiness comes from handy.
damn still looking for this game
coming back in time that is
Ow, that last fall HAD to have hurt.
Yeah i agree! Review that game!
Now THIS takes me back! Thanks!
I think now its starting to break it is.
I'm using headphones on my PC at the moment, so I can probably pick that up more as well.
Very sad ending, but this game is pretty fun and somewhat addicting. I picked this one up not too long ago. I can definitely see where some gripes could be made, but all in all this game is pretty fun.
AVGN's take on it was good too especially since Spiderman himself was doing pretty well game at the game there for awhile. The other Spidermans in that review look terrible though.
Awesome Death!! Pretty graphic :)
Yeah...I own this game...played it all the time as a kid. I'm...uh...
I'm old, aren't I?
Hey are those horizontal lines on the left on all versions of the game? Mine does that too.
4:47. A moment of silence for spidey........
I never played this game, it does seem to have some unique mechanics for an atari game. Have you played the Super Man game for 2600? My friend and I played that for days.
( Referencing comment at about ( 3: 15 ) :
What does a "super-bomb" look like?
;)
I think that the Spider-Man movies are perfectly good (except #3, of course), even if they are a bit talky.
@BlackoutOmega sorry bro. I was tired when I wrote that. Not a great day yesterday. My appologies.
I still have one of those, but I don't think this was on it. I believe mine had NES games instead of Atari.
Have you got a cold coming on there Mr. Bussler?
@Nintendavin and the Green Goblin is......green......?
@BlackoutOmega oh my god you did?! Not you? YOU? WOW! My life is finally fulfilled. Thanks guy or girl I never met before nor could give 2 shits.
Still better than the amazing spiderman movies by marc webb
It's all cool bro.
that red bar is not the time :D is your WEB metter i mean if you fall to much times and try to go up again your web is finishing till you remain whit 0 web oh and btw lol 4:45 :D poor spider man:( (sry for my english)
you said it man
I liked web of shadows alot.
@timetakesawhile this game actually looks really fun.
Funny to think that this review now predates the vast majority of Spider-Man movies ever made.
im gunna buy iy looks adicting
is the stuff hes shooting out what i think it is?????? =P
have you reviewed web of shadows?
just because you odnt like it, doesnt make it generally crap altogether i thourght it was alright myself
whos here because mark mentioned it in his edge of time review?
i have shitload of SNES and 5000 Genasis Games on my PC and PSP (cant fit them all on 4GB PSP memory card)
i love you mark!
Oh, good. So I'm not the only one that noticed. lol
Thumbs Up if your coming back to watch this from his Edge Of Time review!!
@Luigi84289 I'd say it's the best game on this console
The day the demented squirrel in the title card fails to be awesome is the day the world comes to an end. :)
I never understood why the Green Goblin looks like a green wood burning stove.
No it's Spider-man on a orginal Atari it's just the rerelese version that was done in a 7800 shell
@Xtremegamer19961 what about skydiver?
Funny when Spider-Man fell to the ground and broke his back
at 4:42 spidey falls to his HORRIBLE DEATH!!!!!!! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At least he doesn't go "emo" or have a cheesy dance scene in this iteration of spiderman!
yeah but he says that many games suck which are actually decent games. that is just the AVGN persona.
@mistertitanic If you woulda put an "R" after the "O", you woulda been fine. =D
awesome gayme
Photorealism has been achieved
What's sad though is this game is SUPERIOR to Superman 64 in nearly every aspect!
R.I.P Spiderman and Peter Parker
1981-2008 U WILL BE MISSED T_T
well....*presses play again* HES ALIVE :D
@Skoolkidsproduction
hd here doesn't stand for high definition, it stands for heavy duty
no shit
Who was here from avgn's review of this game. I did.
Not only the AVGN, but also Cygnus Destroyer when he featured it in one of his "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" game review episodes. ;)
hard game , love the review
@Nintendavin no they are wearing masks!
Rip spidey
comic books? what are these strange, obscure, "books of comic" you are describing?
Why the hell is that thing at the top a checkerboard?
Also, I think that Spider-Man on PS1 beats the Atari version. Even so, this looks amusing.
HAHAHA!!!! Where did his head go.
ok, just because someone doesnt like something, that doesnt make it as crap as they would have thourght it was.
if the latest films were as crap as people say, they wouldnt have been so successful.
hmmm... maybe, but also "Noob" and "you suck" lol
Virtual Boy PWNS EVERY SYSTEM!
woot spider man blows :) but ok cool review, lol i dont even have an atoari, but for some reason i like these reviews
That game was on the NES not the Atari
@Nintendavin No they are wearing ski masks.
haha... true.. But, it could have made a great Sequal. :)
this has free roam, right?
"This game sucks my Spider Balls!!!!!!"
Lol '*Fall* *Pop*'
@Nintendavin They wore such masks.
The angry video game nerd reviewed this game too! His review was... less enthusiastic.
am i allowed to subscribe if im a robot?
to say so :)))
@timetakesawhile HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO ME
You really gotta consider what you said
about the movies.
I mean yeah they weren't anything spectacular like the terminator, but they where better then
Most game/comic related movies like double dragon, street fighter, or howard the duck.
