Great video as usual John. Kids are lucky these days, I wish I could have got my hands on a guitar like this back when I first started around 1957, it was 'bleeding fingertips time' back then. The guitars we had certainly sorted out the men from the boys, you really had to want to learn to suffer what we suffered back then. My first guitar was a 'junk shop' classical guitar which I strung with 'Black Diamond' strings, and you can imagine what that was like to play!!!!
Ah the good old days! When Black Diamond and Rotosound ruled and if your amp distorted, you took it back to the shop and complained.
@@JohnCouplandguitar When the vocal mic' and the lead guitar both went through a Selma 15 watt amp. When you looked in the music shop window and drooled over the Hofner Committee, the President, the club 40, and if you were lucky you talked your Mum and Dad to take out an HP agreement on a Hofner Senator or a Congress, those were the days back in the 1950's!!!
I sure like the way that you play, you're movements are so fluid. I also enjoy your personality and good fun sense of humor.
In Glasgow if you can't fight or run then humour is the best option.
@@JohnCouplandguitar It's worked for me in the past
Great sounds from such an affordable instrument but - as is often said - tone is as much in the fingers as the instrument, and John is a good guitarist.
The electro tones were especially good. Lovely fingerstyle playing at 10.22+
Tiger also make a 3/4 version of this instrument.
Fantastic video. Thank you for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you John, at the age of 44 years young, I'm about to buy my first guitar, this has sealed it for me, ordering today. 🎸🎶
Glad I could help Jamie.
Thanks for the review!
Great and entertaining review many thanks!!!
Much appreciated Lesley.
Tiger with lyon head..😊
Tiene buena pinta. Bien de precio y suena mejor
Hello there John. I think entry-level acoustics would sound better without such a thick finish. Do you reckon removing the slightest bit of finish off (somewhere between "dulling" and "sanding") would help any? I've had success with similar entry-level solidbody electrics. What's your take on it?
p.s. By finish I mean the top clear coat.
p.p.s. Good job and thank you as always.
Good points. I would certainly take some fine grade sand paper over the back of the neck and sanding the front would improve the sound.
Nice review. Can I just ask what is the first song that you play fingerstyle, it sounds so nice! I would love to kearn it.
Hi Brooke, I was just improvising. In fact I will let you into a wee secret, old guys have trouble remembering tunes so we find it easier to just make them up as we go along!
Hey John, hope your well.
Was this a paid review or did you get to keep the guitar at all? Great playing as always.
This is about the 6th review where I have been given the guitar to keep. The others were the Glarry Strat, Quincy Vancouver, Hartwood Libretto and their 335 plus a cheepy acoustic that was so bad they asked me not to publish the review! I try to make it clear if the review is commercial. The guitars have been spread round the family with the horror going to a charity shop.
@@JohnCouplandguitar I'm glad you get to keep them. Nice perk to the videos, well done.
Do you think she sounds good with Bossa Nova?
Yes indeed.
@@JohnCouplandguitar Thank you;-)
Hi John,
A (probably) daft question.
I've bought this guitar and find that even though I've got the tuner working, when trying with my mini amp, it doesn't seem to be working... Am I missing something to get some sound or perhaps I've got a faulty guitar?
Hello Andy, If the tuner is working then the under saddle pick up is OK. The problem is either the signal not getting to the amp or in the amp itself. In most cases the guitar lead is the culprit so plug your lead into the amp and switch it on. If you touch the tip of the jack with your thumb you should hear a loud buzz that means the lead and amp are OK so the fault is in the guitar. Do the, 'Idiot's guide,' and check that the volumes on both guitar and amp are up and that you have not plugged the guitar into the headphone socket! (Over half a century I have done all these things.) The last thing to try is changing the battery in the guitar, maybe it has enough juice to power the tuner but not the output?
I have one these acoustic guitar not the electric pickup type but the intonation is terrible.
In a case like this where I have been given the guitar by the supplier, I often wonder if it has been, 'Breathed on,' or if it was just the next one in the pile?
@@JohnCouplandguitar cheers for the reply anyway . Do you think better strings might bring the intonation in a bit or one for the bin. LoL geoff
