    Could you make a tutorial on how to take these photos? Like what type of things should you be looking for and what things you should take photos of?

    • @NorthBorders
      @NorthBorders  5 лет назад +508

      Great question! I used the 35mm Sigma and the Sony 24-70mm 2.8 for those shots. You want to look for natural lighting when shooting around a cafe to get even lighting across the subject you're shooting.
      Try take photos of the barristers making the coffees to show the process, photos of the whole establishment from the outside and of course shoot the actual coffee and dish (if they make you one) themselves next to a window for natural light.
      The owner or manger of the cafe might ask for you to take photos of the customers sitting around, before you shoot ask the people sitting down if its alright for them to be in the photograph.
      Good luck man! Go make some money :D

    How about this... you go out & do a free shoot for a cafe... print the best 15-20 pics & put into a smart folder in say 10x8...
    Now, go into cafe's & ask for the manager. You want his professional opinion as a cafe owner on your work....
    See's your doing this for other cafe's to market to local customers & now ask if they'd like this work too...
    Once these business owners actually see how awesome your work is & making other cafe's in competition look, you may find it easier to sell them on the idea of having an on the spot shoot... deffo worth a try, props for hustling 100%

    • @tory6733
      @tory6733 5 лет назад +17

      Scott Mathieson yeah, agree they are doing it without really selling their skills.

    • @themarksmanABP
      @themarksmanABP 5 лет назад +29

      @@tory6733 personally if I was to try this, I would set it up in a system. I would do it as I explained but instead of trying to sell them on the spot, I would offer one cafe or whatever in the city the chance to win a free shoot...
      Go round with your work to showcase... say what you would charge, example $200. Explain it's a free to enter prize draw for local businesses. Do the draw, then go back to the businesses and offer a discounted rate as a gesture for entering so they still get a deal. Make sure the the discount is if they take you up on the offer in the next 48 hours.
      No money on the spot negotiations, potential clients have been offered a chance to win your service for free and then been offered a good discount just for entering if they use you in the timeframe you lay out. Use the reason why method of offering a discount so you eliminate the 'what's the catch' question in the mind. For example...
      "Mr jones, thank you for entering my prize raffle to win a free photo shoot for your business worth $300. As a gesture of goodwill for entering, though you didn't win, I'd like to offer you a steep discount and do the service for $200 if you take me up on the offer within by wednesday morning 12pm.
      The reason for this is because I do this service on a city to city basis, if I can get a few of you guys to use me over the next 5 days, it will save me a shit load of travelling back & forth different places and cut my fuel costs. I can also structure my work week more efficiently than driving here there & everywhere..."
      Make sure you get a pic of you with the cafe owner outside the establishment for your testimonial use for yourself. If other local businesses recognise local owners who use you, it may prompt them to also use you as they will know they are making a concerted effort to gain market share.

      Scott Mathieson exactly what I was thinking. Also might figure a way to set up these cafes who aren’t up to date with social media with accounts and give them a basic walk through on posting and etc.
      Maybe even come with your normal pricing and say but if you them today I can get you this deal. Ex, I usually charge $300 for these kinds of shoots but I’m in the area so I’m able to do them for you for $225 plus a coffee for me and my buddy 😂
      But props on getting out there and grinding guys.
      Great video.

    • @themarksmanABP
      @themarksmanABP 5 лет назад +9

      @Max Sharpe ye of course, but there's something about seeing quality photography in quality print than seeing lower quality pics on a little phone screen that can easily be scrolled over in less than half a second per pic. It is also positioning... a quality smart folder with nice print gives an impression of a premium service instantly. Also opens up an opportunity for multiple dialects to build rapport, that isn't going to happen on instagram. Also have to factor in the human element of forgetting your IG name or being too lazy to check you out at the end of the work day etc.. or they may end up looking at your stuff a few weeks down the line.
      Everyone has an opinion, there's zero pressure to sell or be sold for each party, you are asking for an opinion from another professional in his field. Sometimes people don't realise what they want until they are shown first hand something they have never seen. Happens to me everytime my mate links me to some cool tech gear 😂😂😂🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
      For anyone interested im on IG @esm1987 I recently started shooting american bullies and the like for dog breeders. May end up being a nice little earner, already have plans for a seperate page setup with a dedicated service for that kind of stuff.
      @Enfim cc... ye could even setup their social media and run it for them if they feel it is overwhelming

      Scott Mathieson one thing happened to me that really opened my eyes.
      I run a remodeling business and I’m a realtor and aspiring videography and photography creator (barely getting started and it’s a hobby for now)
      But my daughter was born a few months back and the second day in the hospital a photographer came by and asked if I wanted to buy photographs so I declined to purchase them seeing the pricing but she said if it was OK she could take some pictures and after she took the pictures she could show me the work and see if I liked it and if I change my mind so it was crazy it was maybe a 10 minute photography shoot and once she was done she pulled them up edit them a little bit and show them to me no joke first I had declined and after I bought a $200 packet of pictures. There’s nothing like seeing the finished product in hand. I’m used to my type of business model I never rally tried doing just that. Sometimes you have to give samples so people see your talent and once they see it they are willing to pay you your worth

I also noticed a few asked for your business card and you didn't have one. Directing people to IG is awkward. You can have business cards printed with your email, phone, and IG handle on them for like $10 for 500, maybe even less. It's even easier to reach more businesses, but also a bit harder to get them to say yes on the actual same day! Tons of people can learn from this video. Keep them coming! 🔥 I subbed!

      Yo thanks for the support man!
      And you're right bro the amount of people you can meet is ridiculous, and don't just stop a cafe's... Bars/clubs, used car dealerships, startup retail stores/clothing brands, etc, these places all need photos done! Money is just a bi-product of your hard work. As long as you're passionate about taking photos you have no limit.

    Gotta love vids like this because when you go out and do it on your own, it's so easy to think 'fuck it' by like Cafe #5 or think youre doing something wrong but watching this is just a big reminder that youre doing the right thing and its just finding a business that clicks with you on that. Reminds you to enjoy it and not let the rejections get you down because they happen to everyone! Also 150 from one shoot is more than id make on a 10 hour shift in retail so thats well worth the time investment!

Aside from the good editing and music, I love that you guys didn't make it some theoretical video about how to go out and do it, but you filmed yourselves going out, getting rejected time and time again, and then having the actual discussions with different managers about it. I admire your mindset and courage to enter so many businesses and get rejected. Although if you entered with a printed portfolio your job woukd be much easier. I only get rejected due to cost. Also print some damn business cars. It looks proffessional and not like some random dude with a camera!
    Ideal scenario, call manager, ask for 2 minutes of his time to look over some photos. Go through your photos highlighting the advaantages of said images and that they are necessary for this day and age. Then you go from there! Done!

    Hey man! I absolutley love your videos and would love to help out with how you approach those café’s.
    Here are a few tips:
    1. Don’t give up if they say no, ask them why are they thinking the way they do because you want to know, then you can maybe work out a solution.
    For example they say they don’t have social media. Then you say that it would increase their numbers especially if the social media and website photos looks professional and that they are missing out if they don’t take this opportunity.
    2. Show your portfolio and show how much your photos increased the businesses numbers you helped.
    3. Show your instagram and your youtube channel. That fact that you teach people photography and yo’ve been able to build up a pretty big audiance is pretty cool for any business owner. You will gain trust aswell.
    4. Show them how you are different from other/the most photographers and why should they take the opportunity and what they are missing out if not.

But I kept watching anyway and I'm glad I did. You don't just tell people how to make money. You actually go out and do it. And you record it. Rejections and all. I've never seen anybody do that. And you also show your price negotiations which is really helpful for someone like me who has trouble figuring out how much to charge for these services. Great videos.

    This video is so good, teaching people how to make it by actually doing it. Just great. I feel you can make more by knowing how to sell yourself. Don't just ask them "I was wondering if you guys would be needing some photos for your instagram..." instead let know the benefits they'll have if they accept and the great perspective people will take on it when found online. Don't make it feel generic, make it feel like you really want to let people know about them sharing kinda like a personal 'experience' too. Instead you can say something like
    "Last time I was coming from a long day, came accross this coffee shop and ordered a cappuccino. I really enjoyed it you know. My [friend, roommate, etc.] and I have been ordering almost every weekend ever since and we've been getting it just on point every time! Last time I had the chance to have my coffee at this actual place and i just really like the experience you guys give to people. I gave you guys a check online and realized it's not telling others the cool you're you know. Some fresh sweet [26.2MP, 35MP, you can decide to tell MP] pro photos can really get those online searches find you quicker you know. Specially when nowadays everyone searches online ofc. We are actually photographers/filmographers, we provide with professional photos to restaurants, coffee shops, turistic places, etc. and give them a really good price. These are some of our previous shots in previous occassions [make sure you show some good samples downloaded in your phone not placed in your cloud to avoid data reception failures. You can even make like a follow and let them know the sales on those places have increased by an specific percentage or number]. So right now, we have a promotion going on to help coffee shops like this stand out; 30-40 photos for $250 however for this promo it's at $150 (notice to mention the good quality work they'll be able to use anytime, anywhere, and with no expiration) [you can even build like bundles including probably a nice 20sec video and discount for next requests like seasonal shots or just more shots if and only if they call you after 1 month only for example.] If it's ok for you lemme take 3 trial pics and show you how they look [take 3 photos and with some examples in your phone show how it can be looking after post-processing]. So if you got time right now we're ready to let people know more about you."
    Not this specific script but something like THIS can rrrrrreeaaalllyyyyy change someone's mind instead of a "So do you guys want some photos for your facebook, instagram..." If done correctly, it can show great results. 💯
