      I laughed when he said this as well, but there is some truth to it. You can "hear" when some one has picked a slower shutter speed. I was leading a workshop one time and one student stepped up to take some pictures of a model, he took one, and I said "your shutter is to slow, you're gonna be over exposed", he looked at his camera, his mouth dropped, then he looked at me, he said "how do you know that?" I said , "it made 2 clicks, if it was faster, those 2 clicks would be so close to each other, none of us would be able to hear them separately" he adjusted, he got ready to take his next image, and everyone got as quiet as possible so they could all "listen" for the clicks...it became a running joke.. all in good fun....

    I'm pretty sure your model was a professional and she knew what to do without much instruction. But most of the time when I shoot people they aren't professionals/don't know what to do/how to pose. So I think it might be cool if you make a video about how to instruct models for cool looking pictures. Like "top 10 poses you need to try for your next photoshoot". Anyways love your vids!

    • @prisciliagoh
      @prisciliagoh 4 года назад +55

      Thank you for the compliments! ✨ All instructions for models always differ as every model has a different comfort zone and flexibility. For example, not everyone can lean as far back as you expect due to physical flexibility and you have to take in consideration on what they are wearing e.g. a model would not be comfortable sitting straight in front the camera when wearing a dress compared to a model wearing pants. It is always a good idea to go on Pinterest to make a mood board and share it with your model. It will help a lot if the models know at least a guideline of poses. Whatever the case, make sure your model always feels comfortable as it will come up in photos 🙌🏻😊

      Don't feel bad - I also own the D3300 and it's my 1st DSLR and it's a great camera - don't let this guys' elitist nature to bring you down. I have taken shots of Formula 1 cars, helicopters, done portrait sessions, even macro shots using reversed 28-80 kit lens.For night photos I use the cheap but wonderful 35mm 1.8G DX - sure the D3300 lacks some pro-features, but it has great colors and let's me experiment with different styles of photography. Some of this guys criticism - no electronic viewfinder - that is inheritant to ALL DSLR even the latest Nikon D6, the slow shuuter speed -> well D3300 goes to up to 1/4000 sec, which is standard for camera of this class -> for portraits the subject stays still, so you can go as slow as 1/50sec. Exposure "guessing" - you always take 3-4 test shots and adjust your settings. The point about "D3300 getting underexposed shots, bla bla" - well that is why pro's are pros, they can judge the situation and adjust their settings. To sum up, don't let people bring you down, take your camera, go out and take photos and experiment.
      P.S. go to digital Rev's channel and search for the cheap camera challenges feature Kai W and pro photographers -> much better than contetn and teaches you about photography :)

      @@UnconventionalReasoning Definitely not a kit lens, I think it's a 18-200mm DX, yes it's still very slow (3.5-5.6) but its glass is definitely better than the kit lenses. It's usually priced around $600. I think a D3300 body is priced at $300. To be honest, I don't think why he would pick a $600 slow lens. For $600 you could get a lot more better glass, I understand he's trying to pick amateur gear, but an amateur wouldn't spend $600 for a lens immediately.

    I started out with Nikon d40 and later upgraded to d3300 and then on Nikon d750 dslr(full frame). Sold the d750 after 3 years and switched to Nikon Zfc (crop) mirrorless and I just love it. I love it more than d750. The whole kit with two lenses weigh less than the d750 body. It has eye af, is small and compact and it looks beautiful. Also in post, I don't use any presets, any crazy color grading just the stuff that comes from the camera. I love Nikon colors and it's a shame to change it all in post. I only use photoshop for skin retouching, because I try to expose at least close to perfect in camera. Always. Nikon Zfc is an entry level mirrorless. The lenses I own for it are Nikon Z 28mm f2,8 and 40mm f2. And I use the gear mostly for paid work. And customers were always satisfied. Because at the end, results matter not the gear. I hate youtube ''photographers'' saying: you need a full frame, you need this and that to take great pictures''. No you don't. You need a camera, decent glass and good light. Also composition and framing skills yes. I also own 1985 Yashica MF3 Super point and shoot and 2001 Nikon f(n)65 film cameras. Both working and I can still take great pictures even on film, not being limited by the gear specs. And that guys is photography, not snapping 1000 average photos and then make them look great in post.

    I’ve been shooting with Canon for almost a decade now but I always started with the cheapest cameras and worked my way progressing through different models throughout the years. Even if I were to use out-dated cameras, I’d know how to use it as if it was like my Canon 6D or EOS R, especially if I throw on my best lenses on em. For me, I’d say using older cameras with sharp lenses, basics in understanding photography, and proficiency in editing skills, will help your photos look just as good like it was taken by a professional. In reality, every photographer is always different from the next, we see things differently from our perspective.

    I started out with a d3200. Without a lens that gets at least f1.8 the camera will struggle without loads of light. Otherwise you need a tripod to handle the very slow shutter speed. Also using live view tends to slow down the shots further because it has to stop the live-view then take the shot and turn live-view back on. It's still possible to get great photos but you need a lot more time.

      @@methjesus7505 yeah well just cause it takes better quality pictures (has a better sensor or whatever) doesnt mean the picture is a better picture i think lol you can give a shitty photographer a nice camera and the pictures they take will probably still be shitty but give a good photographer a crappy camera and they will probably still take some amazing pictures... i think .

    Photography used to be really hard and expensive. I've worked with Mamiya RB67/RZ67 and Olympus OM2-4 cameras when I started.
    I actually learned on an EXA 1A. And after taking the photos you had to do all the post in the darkroom.
    With the Mamiya I used lots of Polaroids after metering all the light in.
    My first digital camera was the D30 and the 10D after that (left out the D60). Still own that 10D and it is still a good Camera to learn with.
    It's amazing what you can do with cheap gear now.

    I agree with most of the things you said. Any camera becomes easier once you have taken enough time to familiarise with all the functions and creative options it offers. At the same time I really believe a very good photography gear can make a huge difference in anyone's photographic abilities. When you have a camera that calculate the perfect exposure for you and focus fast and accurately your subject, taking a good photo is way easier, unless your are particularly bad at framing a particular scene. I have some of the quirkiest fixed lens cameras in the world with extremely slow focus and very few focus points. But even with my cameras it is still possible taking very good and sharp photos. As for the exposure it is not so hard to guess when a photo will come out underexposed or overexposed with most relatively modern cameras. Then softwares to edit photos can completely transform a mediocre image into a great looking one. Much harder is taking a very good photo which hardly needs any editing. I try to to do the latter and in most cases I don't miss not having software to edit my photos. But probably looking at how unrealistic and unnatural look most pics on social media, not many people would appreciate my photos. Expensive cameras( and photo editing softwares) with a lot of practice can really help you taking and making awesome photos, unless you are absolutely bad at framing a scene or a subject.

      The physical viewfinder is much more accurate than the little lcd screen. Here, a “pro” would likely use the viewfinder to get an accurate depiction of the scene rather than a potentially distorted view from a cheaper lcd
